WISH Team Marathon Weekend Events

There are two main WISH team events on marathon weekend: dinner at POP food court on Fri, Jan 11 and breakfast Mon, Jan 14 at Boardwalk Bakery. Last year, racers also met at the start of each race to hangout together for moral support and pace grouping. Generally, we gather at the end of the race at the W tent (which didn't exist last year) though we did find each other for a photo op with medals. Anyway, please post where you'll be, how many you're bringing with you and when. Also, if you're scream teaming or have a scream team, please post their location. If anyone has any ideas for other events, please post 'em! I'll keep a list here of who's doing what.

Come on over to POP and bring your scream team for the kickoff of marathon weekend WISH team events! Meet and greet, gather for the official team photo, then hangout and eat together. POP was very accomodating last year and we all had a great time together!

Erica and I will be there for both meets and the pre race huddles. We don't have any scream team. We are staying at the Dolphin.

We will be arriving on Jan 6th and leaving the morning of the 17th. We are open to any dinner ideas, lots of places we haven't eaten at.

A meet at Pleasure Island would be fun, I think there are a few interested in going there for the after race party Disney is putting on. There is a free ticket in your race goody bag.

Mel - We're arriving 1/11 and we're leaving 1/20. We'll be at the POP meet and at the Boardwalk Bakery meet. It will be me, DH, DD6 & DD10. DH is running the 1/2 so DD's and I will be scream team at MK main street and at Epcot before entering the park for the finish. For the full I will be at the WISH meet area pre-race and DH & DD's will be scream team on main street in MK, Animal Kingdom parking lot and Beach Club.
I will most likely walk back through EPCOT after finishing to join my family and cheer runners on from the Beach Club. We'll have our cow bells:thumbsup2

Mel - The DW and I will be at POR from 01/10 - 15. Please put us down for the POP and Boardwalk Bakery meets. We'll be at the finish for the 1/2, sceam team location TBD.

For the full, the DW is scheduled to be at Waterstop #2 blue, and will be at the finish. I'll be at the prerace location, and (god willing and the creek don't rise) at the finish. :)

With my volunteer times I don't think we will be at the start or finish of the marathon but I will be at the start and finish of the 1/2.

We'll be scream teamin' it for the half (location TBD) and we'll be at the finish afterwards. I'll be at the start for the full; Krista will be at water station #2, red start I think. She'll be will the scream team at the YC/BC later that morning, and we'll both be at the finish of the full.

Is anyone still thinking of something like the Illuminations Dessert Party on Sunday evening after the full? We didn't go to it last year, so I have no idea how it turned out, but it sounded like so much fun.

For the HALF

DH will be on the lookout for WISHers before the half, especially walkers who plan to finish in about 3:15. This will be his first half without me, so he is a little nervous.

I will be cheering for him and all the WISH team maybe on Main Street, but definitely outside Epcot.

We will both hang out at the W tent at the end.

For the FULL

I will be at the start very early - I am one of those who catch the 3AM bus.

DH will be volunteering at RED waterstop #2, and then, if he has enough energy he'll be cheering outside of AK, MGM, AND at the finish. With all that running around after the half, he might not be getting a goofy, but he sure is a Prince!

It will take me 7 hrs to finish the full and we will stick around for a while and celebrate with WISHers.

Monday

We will be at BWI for breakfast. Well, I definitely will be, not sure about Jim. Poor guy has to go to Vegas to get a relaxing vacation!!:lmao: :lmao:

I'll be at the start of the half on Saturday and hopefully the finish! DH and DD will be scream teaming, but I don't know where yet. I'm giving them Krista's suggestions and assuming they may use those. Sunday I'll be scream teaming for the full, hoping to drop in on the WISH water stop, but am open to suggestions since it's my first time.

Stephanie...I think the easiest way from BWV would be to ride the bus over to EPCOT, then monorail over to TTC. You can take the resort monorail or walk to Poly from TTC.

Steve...we would need a point person to organize/hold the contract for another Illuminations dessert party. Anyone interested? I also thought about trying to arrange a Wishes cruise for that night instead.

Terri...bring as many as you like. Pop has lots of room and we usually try to be there early enough to not cause a problem for the restaurant.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Chad & I plan to be at Pop on Friday and the Bakery on Monday morning.

We are booked at SSR, but I am waitlisted for just about every other DVC property.

A get-together Sunday night would be fun. We are not going to have park passes, so a WISHes cruise, or PI would work great for us (we are not big IllumiNations fans).

I will be doing the Half - Chad is going Goofy.
So, I will probably be at the WISH tent after both races.

I will be staying at BWV from 1/10 to 1/13. I will be at the start of the half marathon and am shooting to be at the finish 3:29:59.99 (or faster) after the last group starts. I plan to be at the Pop meet also. I have signed up for the 5K as well and will only do it if I can get the darn back issues straightened out sufficiently to allow me to get in some/enough training (thus, kind of a mini-Goofy, which I think would make it a "Max"). I am travelling solo so it will just be one (1) for each. I haven't made a final decision on the marathon yet (i.e., volunteer or scream team or park hopping or packed in ice somewhere, etc.).

We will be attending the meet Friday night at Pop and the Monday morning at the boardwalk, providing everyone cooperates.

I will be at the marathon start and subsequently the finish a few hours later.

I will also be part of the Scream Team for the half but don't know where yet since alot depends on how kids are doing. I should also be at the finish for the half.

Not sure about what Lynnda will do so I will let her post instead of signing her up for random things. ;)

I am arriving Wed Jan 9 and departing Thurs Jan 17. Martha will be in and out as her schedule allows. We are staying at the Boardwalk Villas, but spending the night before the marathon at Old Key West, so we can walk to the start sometime around 5:30.

I'm confident we will be at the Friday afternoon/evening meeting at Pop Century. Beyond that I really cannot commit, since I don't know the travel schedules of the rest of the family. I will be in the starting corrals Sunday morning about 5:40, and if I get a cool and dry day, with luck and injury-free training I hope to cross the finish around 10:30. Martha is also running the full on Sunday, so I'll likely wait for her in the "W" tent after the race.

this sounds like fun. My wife and I will be staying at POP arriving on Friday the 11th and departing on Monday the 14th.

We plan on being at POP for the dinner party. Unfortunately we have plans for Saturday so we won't get to be a part of a scream team for the half.

I will be at the start for the full, probably around 4:00 a.m. (ugh) and hopefully at the finish.

We will probably go to Pleasure Island on Sunday night. I doubt I will be up and out on Monday early enough to be at the bakery by 9:30, but you never know.

Craig...we're still iffy on ToT. We only get one 10th anniversary, but Kaley has a band competition and my mom's not sure she can come up that weekend to hangout with the kids. If we bring them, Kaley misses her competition. Still hoping something will work out easily.

The last 3 halfs and marathons we have spent the night before the races at POFQ and walked to the starting line. About 10 minutes for the full, maybe 25 for the new half start.

Unfortunately last year our night at POFQ wasn't satisfactory. Not clean and not "fresh smelling." This year we are booked for Saturday night at OKW. We've not done it this way, but over the years I have seen many people walking out of the entrance to the resort fairly late and jump into the starting corrals. Martha and I will be among those people on January 13.

I understand that OKW goes pretty far back, but we've made the walk from the most distance buildings of POFQ and it was quick and easy.

We are scheduled to arrive on Friday, but now I'm having packet pick up anxiety. It's about a 4 hour drive, but maybe I don't want to spend that long in the car Friday a.m. Perhaps I need to revisit my reservation...

Anyway, we are at the Swan. It's me, DH, DD (7), and DS (21 mo. then). Based on the age of DS, we'll decide on Pop at the last minute. He'd probably enjoy it, but I want to make sure the rest of the WISH team does too! :rotfl:

I will definitely be at the start for the 1/2 and full early. I need my peeps to help me through my last minute crazies! This time, as opposed to the Minnie, I actually know how to get my water bottles to attach to my belt, but I'm sure I'll still need help. ;)

My family will be doing the scream thing both days by the Beach Club (if they know what's good for them).

Assuming I can wake up and function, we'll all be at the breakfast Monday. (We leave Monday afternoon- I may need to re-think that one too...)

Jen, just wanted to let you know that the 1/2 marathon course doesn't run past the Beach Club. You'll enter Epcot over by the resort bus parking and run backstage, coming out somewhere by Ice Station Cool. You'll do an out and back up to where the Christmas tree is (if you haven't been to WDW during the holidays, it's where Future World and World Show Case meet), come back down the other side and then exit the park by guest services, run backstage and then in front of the grand stand where the finish line is. I will be at the start of the Half, and unless I get another free wheelchair ride, I'll also be at the finish of the Half.

Hey guys - okay, assuming all goes well, I'll be at the POP meet (probably with Tim depending on hockey outings) and the breakfast (definitely with Tim as we'll be hitting a park afterwards). Not sure about PI - haven't got there as normally asleep by then, but we'll see

On the days themselves, I may come and say hello at the start, then vanish as I like to sit and eat my breakfast etc quietly in a corner then queue, queue and queue again for the portaloos - nothing personal, just get ansty before a race so like to chill (and sit, sitting is a big part of my pre race preparation).

After the half I'm going to head into Epcot as soon as it opens to cheer (and go on test track) then it's back to the hotel to rest my legs ready for tomorrow- after the marathon, I'll be heading straight to the English pub where Tim should have cider waiting for me, so anyone coming into Epcot about 6.15+ hours (assuming my timing is right!) in can expect a cheer team there. I have not been very attentive to my WISH friends the past couple of months -- work, training, and life with three kids has my head spinning! Just finished my last Christmas shopping -- now on to the wrapping and cooking! YIKES!!!! :scared1:

I am staying at Saratoga Springs with friends (I get to see how the other half lives!) from Thursday (Jan 10th) until Monday noon (Jan 14th). I'll be doing the 5K, the half, the full, then heading back home to work to pay for all that fun! I will be meeting my brother during the weekend, but I don't know his plans and he knows I'm trying to catch up with my Disney Dead friends as well as my WISH buddies, so he may or may not be with me on Friday. (He's attempting his third Goofy as well.)

As an aside, typically I plan every second I'm at the World -- mapping out which parks I'll visit, where I'll eat, etc., etc. This trip I'm just planning on the races, my now-traditional post-half-marathon massage, and one special thing: a the Backstage Magic tour with my brother. Now the Pop meet is on the schedule, as well as a breakfast with the Disney Deads just before I leave on Monday. All booked -- and I'm not riding a single ride! Whoa!

Paul!?!?!? You and the wife are coming? Woohooo!!!! Your brother too? I'll be somewhere around the Polynesian I think, probably will try to meet up with Anne (Mahare) and crew since I've never cheered for the Half before.

I'll be attempting the Full and my DH is coming down just to run between parks as one of our personal support people. He'll be over by the Polynesian on Sunday then move to MGM. Mom will be outside AK and then move to Epcot.

Hi Yvonne,

I too am single and have been travelling solo to the runs exclusively. All of these wonderful WISHERs have taken me in... and it has always been the highlight of my trips. Don't worry.. you will know everyone... especially at POP.. it is a huge group of hugging, laughing loud folks.. some dressed to impress with all their WISH attire on. You can't miss em! So.. make sure you come on down! Oh.. .and I still wear my lovely nametag that I got from last year's POP gathering... and will be doing so again!

I'll be arriving early on 1/11 and staying at BCV with my dear friends the Keeners (Cam & Howard and dd Jenn). I'll be at the Pop Meet, the 1/2 finish, the full start and finish (Cam & I are doing the full again together), the PI gathering Sunday night (have to go to AC at least once) and then at the BW meet on Monday. I'll be leaving later on Monday to return home to dh who is kindly staying home with the kids!

Can't wait to see everyone again in just 2 weeks!

Those doing the 5K, will we meet and run together, or just meet up at the end? I am nervous about not being swept. I injured my knee at the end of October, and that kind of sidelined mine and dd's training. I am hoping on pure adrenaline getting us through. :thumbsup2

I don't know if it's too late too add us to some of the events but DH & DS - 11 are doing 5K on Friday, where DS- 8 and I will be cheering!!!

The thing I am most excited about is I just realized POP meet is at 4:30 we can come before we go to our pasta dinner for AT at Contemporary :cool1: :cool1: We won't eat but we can come say HI:flower3: so please add all 4 of us for that.

Then for 1/2 I think I am going to scream team at Ticket and Trans center, either that or main street, haven't decided if we want to try to BRAVE that crowd with 2 tired, probably cranky kids :rolleyes1

Can't wait to see everyone, I am SOOOOO excited that we get to meet everyone Friday night. :dance3:

OK, don't know if I've overstepped or anything..but I did call Pop Century and spoke to a Food Court manager to warn them that 50+ people would be descending on the food court at 4:30 on Friday. Last year, we did have a manager come up to our group... so I thought I would give them a little more warning. He was glad to have the warning, said it shouldn't be a problem..I told him about last year, why we were there, and how much we enjoyed the facilities. :banana:

The same manager as last year is still working the food court. I have seen him every time I have been to POP over the last year.. and that has been 4 times!! OY>>> I have a problem!!! LOL!! He remembers me now.. cause every time I see him I thank him again for his kindness... how he went out of his way to provide us with Bagels and bananas to take back to our rooms. They had been put away for the night.. and were not supposed to be put out again till the morning... and he also opened the food court early for the runners. Very nice... I am sure he will be there again this year!! Just a few more sleeps!!!

Other than that, you guys will get sick of us. We have no other plans, than race/WISH plans.
We are not doing any parks. So, maybe some pool time, a movie or mini golfing. But that's about it.

Those were my pics from last year.. there is a thread on here that I made with the pics of last years events. This year I plan to have many more since I know everyone so much better! :)

And Yes.. alot of people wear their cotton wish shirts to the meet and greets. I don't have one.. of either.. I ALWAYS miss the ordering!!! OY!!

So.. I will wear my St. Patrick's day target shirt that is almost the same color....

I was going to put a picture of my Tough Guy on my shirt and that way I know everyone would know me. LOL!!!

I know I haven't been around here much lately. I haven't had too much to say for myself since at this point I'm not trying to train for anything. I have been checking in on everyone's progress, though. Barry & I do plan on being at the meet at POP to WISH everyone well on their races.
