Can anyone confirm cancellation policy?

This is what they say on the website for the booking At Royal Pacific:

Policy Information

Guarantee Policy: CREDIT CARD DEPOSIT
Cancellation Policy: To avoid cancellation charges, booking must be cancelled before 6PM local hotel time on 16 April 2008. Do they mean charges additional to the deposit?
Deposit Policy: 274.50 USD to be charged to Credit Card at time of booking

I only want to book if I get AAA rates, so if I book now, and cant get AAA rates for my date, will I lose the $274.50 deposit that is charged at time of booking if I cancel the reservation before 16 April 2008?

Not sure about how they do things but that usually means you can get your deposit back if you cancel by that date and if you cancel after you will pay for usually the first night's cost which is what you pay for with the deposit.

If you cancel by that date, your deposit will be refunded. If you cancel past that date (usually within 5 days of your arrival), you will lose your deposit.

go ahead and book and pay the deposit. Make sure they email you a confirmation number. then when AAA rates come out call them and ask them to change your rate to the AAA rate, make sure they email you a confirmation. You will not lose your deposit "credit" by changing rates, that money will still be on your "account" attatched to your confirmation. If AAA rates do not come out, call up to 6 days before your travel date to cancel. Your deposit will be refunded with in 8 weeks ( usually sooner, but you know... lol ) back to the credit card that you used.

BTW, be sure to keep an eye out for the super savers rate! sometimes that rate is better than the AAA. It has been my experiance that the super savers rates will come out on the loews website way before it will be avail. on the universal orlando website.
