What is the Best use year month?

My family plans on using our points during Feb, April and August.

I just joined the DVC. What would be the best month to have my use year begin?

With the upcoming new banking rules, I believe February would work nicely as all your vacations would fit in the 100% banking window.
Unless you cancel a reservation use year is irrelevant.

As MG said, use year is only an issue if you are in the habit of cancelling reservations. In 10 years of ownership, we have never had to cancel a reservation where we would lose points, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.

I am begining to understand now. I have a choice of April or August and I think that April will work out best in the event of a cancellation.

Actually, between April and Aug, Aug may be bettter for you under the current 4 month banking rule.

With an Aug UY, you need to cancel and bank by April 2. You also have to cancel more than 30 days prior to a scheduled vacation to avoid having your points go into the holding account. Holding points cannot be banked. So you would be able to cancel a Feb, Apr or Aug vacation more than 30 days in advance and still bank those points.

With an Apr UY, you need to bank by December 2. So if you cancel your February vacation in January, you could not bank those points and would still have to use them by March 31.

I was offered a Feb use year.

Thanks to all who responded, I now have a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding use year.

I went for the Feb date, it will cover all my Feb, April, and Summer trips (in the rare event that I cancel)
