Newbie RV A/C question... Thanks!

Hi, Camping Newbie here! :wave:

I have never camped before in my life, but DH has always joked that when we retire he wants to buy an RV and just roam around the country for a few years!!

This summer we will be remodeling our house and need to be out of it completely for at least two months. Hubby thinks it would be great to rent an RV (since we need the temporary housing anyway) so he can try out the RV lifestyle!

Naturally, we will need to spend part of the summer at FW! :cool1:

My question concerns air conditioning in a motor home. The models for rent only list a/c for the cab. What do we do for a/c in the living areas?? I am not doing August without a/c, even for my beloved Disney!

I don't know about the rentals, but we just traded our pop-up for a Class C and it definitely has A/C in the living part as well as in the cab. I would imagine that the rentals would have the same.

I am no expert on Class A, B or C since I tow, but I believe, especially in the case of a class B or C, that there are two separate AC systems. The cab system is like that of a conventional car, which runs the compressor off the motor and has the dash vents. The living quarters uses the roof top units which run off the generator or the electrical hook up at the campground.

There are separate units correct. While driving, if you don't have a generator, the only a/c you get comes out of the dash. When you are at a campground, you plug the motorhome into "shore" power to run all your appliances and a/c.

Unless it is a really cheap RV rental company, all self propelled RV's come with roof A/C, otherwise the resale value would be zip.

BTW, since you are new to RVing, have you seen the movie RV ? :rolleyes1

What you said makes sense now because the specs list "factory cab air" and "factory roof air-ducted" for the class C we are looking at.

Haven't seen it, but we did order the DVD from Go RVing and DH got that light in his eyes when we were watching it. Kind of like the light I get when I watch the updated WDW Planning DVD every year! :rotfl:

While this is a great site, don't base your decision on buy an RV just on what you read here, Please sign up and do your research in something like

There are others so google "rv forums" and start reading.:goodvibes

This is really not the place to base the purchase of an RV on.
