In light of the changes to the dining plan for 2008 we were just wondering if you had to choose between an appetizer or dessert on the dining plan, which would you prefer. Of course there is no choice but maybe Dinsey will read this and see what the majority would want! Vote please.

When we go out to eat as a family, we tend to always get appetizers and never get dessert.

You don't need to choose as both are included. Just booked mine today and they are both there.

Thats only because you did the deluxe plan. Standard ddp only allows for dessert.

But given the choice i think they should let you choose, either or, cuz i would choose depending on the restaurant. Altho at home we almost never do dessert but thats cuz we are too cheap..lol

Appetizers cost more on a lot of the menus which is probably why they excluded them.

There is no way they will change this for '08.:rolleyes1 But I would rather skip appetizer and get dessert anyway. We dont eat appetizers at home, and we struggled with 3 courses and left feeling overstuffed this year on free dining.

I wish they would let us choose either or - that way one of us would likely get an appetizer and the other a dessert and then we could share.

What is the purpose of your poll? :confused3

Disney has made a change in the dining plan offered for 2008. It's their plan and they are free to make the rules. The only purpose of the DDP is to entice people to pre-pay for meals and therefore obligate them to stay on site where they will then spend even more of their tourist dollars. If you don't like what they have offered, don't buy it. A poll is just beating a dead horse.

I actually think this is an interesting poll as I thought I would be in the minority wanting an appetizer instead of dessert. I was disappointed to hear of the change but will still be using it because our next big trip includes alot of character dining and it is much better for us to do the Dining Plan. OP, I am glad for the poll :thumbsup2

This is how I would like to do it also. We have the dlxddp for next year and with 3 adults we will most likely only get 2 appetizers and 2 desserts and share. Having both all to yourself is way to much food. I also plan on doing at least 3 meals that include the tip like CRT and shows.

What is the point in this entire site??? To share ideas, thoughts and opinions. It is nice to see what others are thinking (if they think like you or not).

This poll creates a False Dilemma fallacy. The choice isn't between appetizer and dessert, but rather between including dessert at $37.99 per day and including appetizer at (just guessing here) $41.99 per day. Since the appetizer is worth more, switching the inclusion to the appetizer will cost more. That should change some guests' minds about which they prefer.

And the other false dilemma is that the poll offers a choice where no such choice exists. DDP 2008 is what it is, and it does not include either an appetizer or the gratuity.

There's no harm in discussing things, of course, but as someone's already suggested, the real-world choice is buy it or don't.

I voted for appetizer, but would definately like to be able to choose one or the other.

I wish we had the option. Sometimes I feel like an appetizer, other times I would prefer dessert. I personally do not pick my meal based on price. I base it on what sounds good.

I'm sure you're right... and I'm sure that's exactly why Disney isn't going to let us do that! ;)

Also, if they let people get an appetizer, they'd often end up being too full to order a dessert, whereas if they make you get the dessert, people whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs will order the appetizer and then be stuck with a dessert that they won't eat!

Disney is very good at making money.

I am happy with the plan the way it is in 2008. If I could have chosen between appetizer and dessert, Disney picked exactly what I would have.

I agree with the point of not picking appetizer or dessert. Many couples would split an appetizer, eat their main course and then split desserts.

I would like to see them offer a choice between appetizer and dessert, Then my husband could order appetizer and I could order dessert and we could share them.

I voted for dessert. When we go out to dinner at home. I always get dessert. That's the best part of the meal!:thumbsup2

I really would just want them to allow you to pick when eating. If there are 2 people one could pick the appitizer and the other the dessert. The price would be similar and everyone would win. Just my thoughts!!

I'd rather have the appetizer. One thing I noticed by the end of my last Disney trip was that desserts can get sickening pretty darn quickly. By the end, I was barely tasting them.

And why would that matter? It would come out to about the same moneywise anyways so why not make the customer happy too and kill two birds with one stone? If it where not your choice, you might be complaining too.

What's interesting to me is that this change has shown me how successful the Dining Plan has been at keeping me on site. I don't like the new plan--it's no longer "all inclusive" and it favors dessert over appetizers.

So what will I do? I'll rent a car and try the many, many restaurants off site that may not be as convenient, but have better and cheaper food than Disney has. While I'm at it, I'll probably hit a few other attractions, too. I'm actually okay with all this because it won't cost me more, and I'll get a new Orlando experience out of it.

I read that Walt ALWAYS had dessert after dinner so we can pretend that is why they chose to include dessert.:lmao:

I agree. My vacation in Dec is my first time staying on property and I did it for the experience and the dining plan. Having everything taken care of. I think I will return to staying offsight and eating at much better restaurants for less money.

I have a hunch that they picked one - appetizer or dessert - because of turning tables over. It's just a hunch, but you asked me why.

If they can turn tables over faster they are making more customers happy because there are more available ADR's for each restaurant on any given night.

I don't know if I'd complain that it was appetizer and not dessert, I might, but I wouldn't get all up in arms about it. I'd simply order my included appetizer and we'd pay OOP for a dessert or two to split among the table. (which wouldn't do them any good in turning tables over faster with our crew! :rotfl:)

Good answer. :) I was thinking also that most appetizers are shared...cheese sticks, nachos, potatoskins, etc and desserts people usually like to get two different ones to share...so maybe it will be more cost effective for customers.:confused3 It still looks like the meal plans will save money for people who like table service, just not as much.

I also wish we could pick between an appetizer or dessert. My family of 4 could get 2 of each and share. I guess that is not likely to happen though.
