Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

6 miles this am in 1:17:48 for a 12:58 pace at R4/W2. Really liking the extra walking minute, but not excited about how it's killed my pace. I was also a bit slower because I had to go out early this morning. I left the house at 5:50 am because we had a garage sale to be ready for at 8. Y'all had me all creeped out about running alone in the morning...especially in the parts with no street lights where it was so dark I couldn't even see the sidewalk. Between worrying about Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers jumping out at me, I was also afraid the sprinklers in the neighborhoods I run through would suddenly kick on! I made it without sprinkling or psychotics so a good run overall!
Good luck Lynne in Ironman part deux!!
Congrats to everyone on their LR today! Some great mileage and paces!
Krista...sounds like you made the right decision! Just don't be a stranger around here, 'kay?
Colleen...when I took the running clinic a couple months ago, the guy recommended stopping halfway through a run to stretch for about 5 minutes. I haven't had the guts to try stopping for that long yet, but maybe I'll try it since it worked so well for you!
I did manage to find a way to be sure that I don't register for the Sarasota Half. I signed up to be a volunteer instead!
Sorry to be brief, but I'm in the midst of writing a paper on pain management :surfweb:
Good training everyone!

Good morning Kim and Mel. Sure is quiet here this morning. I should try sleeping in sometime on a Sunday morning. It's a regular work day for me though.
Kim good luck on trying to stay up with this thread. It can move pretty fast.

My next marathon is the Suntrust Richmond Marathon in early November (part of my Goofy training in years past has been to do a couple of "long slow marathons"). That meant yesterday was an 18-miler. 18 miles is a long way. Seriously, 18 miles is a long way. I remember now why every year after Goofy I say I'm going to do a 20-miler every month so I don't have to go through the discomfort of working back up to 26 miles from virtually nothing (because after Goofy I tend to "rest" for the remainder of the winter! <LOL>)
At least I have my virtual training group to commisserate with. Good luck to everyone doing their long mileage today. And thanks for letting me whine a little. :)

Hi Everyone:
I just received a call from my sister at 8:30am this morning that my Mom has passed away. She's been very sick with dementia for a long time, and has been going downhill for a while. But it was a total surprise that she died this morning.
Sorry for the downer post, but I'm struggling with trying to figure out what to do next.

Sorry I've been gone for so long, but we've finally MOVED. We moved in last week, and after a week, we are finally starting to get settled in.
We love the area, and went for our first run this AM as South Carolinians. We went running within the development. I need to find some new places close by that are outside of the development. We signed up for a local 10K at the end of September, so we have to get back in the swing of running again.
Also, Mel, you can probably edit my listing on the Team Roster to show SC instead of OH. Thanks

I have achiness in the left knee.
I ran with a knee strap post surgery as it helped keep things in place and made me feel better about running on it. I am wondering if I should have been doing that these past couple of weeks.
We shall see. Concern is minimal now. But 2 weeks in....too early for that.

I got out yesterday for the long run and was surprised that it wasn't 100% humidity around. Then I actually felt a cool breeze. I thought it might be a nice run afterall. I thought too soon. A mile into it it started raining and did so for about the next mile. Enough to get me totally drenched. Then the breeze went away. :sad2: At mile 6 it started raining again for the next .5 miles. It did feel a little nice but made it nice and steamy. After all that, I was able to get 10 miles in with an 11:59 pace. I was fairly happy with that under the circumstances.
SWDave - Sorry to hear about your mom. :sad1:
Mel - I'm glad you found a way to get around running although after the full, a half would be a walk in the park for you. Oh wait, that is part of the course isn't it. ;)
Denny - Glad you were able to get moved.
Lynne - It looks like you are doing great. Congrats on your newest accomplishment.
Have a great week everyone.

Wendy: you are truly the walking queen! Running may be much more taxing physically, but we walkers know how time consuming those long training sessions can be. So far my longest walk has been only 14 miles. I would like to train up to 22 or, at the very least, 20 miles, but am dreading the time committment.
Denny: congrats on getting settled after your move. Betch won't find too many Lehigh alumni in SC!
Christa: sorry about your recent near collision. Please be careful! BTW, any more news about the body?

So.....on the training note.......I did 20 miles yesterday, and can I say it was BAD! I was acutely miserable. Around 16 miles I wanted to sit down and cry, but couldn't find a bench. I am now severely doubting that this marathon will ever get done. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 During my 20 mile training run I was even questioning the "why" of the situation. Why did I ever think that this is something I want to do???? :scared1:  I am committed to trying, but I now think it might lead to my first DNF.
My dh wants me to be more positive, but I can't seem to get there....but love him for trying!

Absolutely am NOT supposed to be on here at work, but have to report...
Had the MRI this morning. Doc just called me with the results - I have a fracture, not a torn tendon. Told me to use crutches for the next three weeks; no weight at all on the foot. I told him I had to ask what the outlook is for the Raleigh marathon on 11/4 - run, walk, not at all - he said I'll be able to do it!

Beth--You will be able to do this! It is completely normal to feel that way during training. We all have questioned "why?" at some time during training--but trust me, the memories you will have of this time will make it all worth it. Heck, if this were easy, everybody would be out running marathons--but they're not. What we're all doing here is huge. I always remember a comment Lance Armstrong said after finishing the NY marathon--that running a marathon was the hardest thing he's ever done--geez, the guy has beaten cancer and won the Tour de France multiple times, even he thought the 26.2 was hard. The race "experience" will get you to the start and then the finish line. My advice, enjoy the experience, take it all in--relish every bit of it. I don't think you were around these parts when I was training for my 1st marathon last winter. I got sick right before the 20 mile run, and I couldn't finish it. I got really depressed and almost decided to throw in the towel. But with the WISH team, along with my great support system here, I got to the starting line and then the finish line. Just think, all the hard work is behind you. Now it's time to get crazy during taper time, and have fun with your race! Make sure to take lots of pics and journal, so this time next year you can go back and say "Wow, look what I accomplished!" We'll be here to celebrate with you in a few weeks when you're in the afterglow of finishing your race!

MS Dave - I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Jackie - a fracture?! My goodness, I am so sorry. Good news though is that it sounds like you will be able to complete the race!! Aren't you glad you went to the doc soon enough?!
Well, I just hopped off my treadmill and wanted to report my run. I ran 6 miles, the first .5 and last .5 were my warm up and cool down at around a 10 mpm. The 5 miles in between took 40:14, so an avg 8:03 mpm. I never would have thought last year that I would be hitting times in the low 8's. Last year I seemed to be stuck around a 10mpm. I feel like something has finally shifted and I actually have some speed to me again!!
Now if only everything else was going as well. DS6 has been having some serious trouble at school. His teacher is a brand new teacher, this is his first year teaching, and he has an entire class of 6 yr old boys (seriously I think there are like 3 girls in his class). He doesn't seem to know how to handle boys at all, and Michael is miserable. He actually told me the other day, "Mommy, I'm trying to be good but I still keep getting in trouble". In talking to some other parents it seems that this teacher is getting onto them for EVERY little thing they do because he is afraid that if he doesn't that he is gonna lose control of the entire class, but at the same time he can't just go around getting onto them for everything. It makes the kids feel like they can't do anything right. Then he is having a hard time in football too. He's on the starting line, but for some reason everytime one of the coaches (DH included) sends him in to play the head coach sends him back out of the game. It's been like this for the past 2 games. Last week Michael came back to the side line crying because they wouldn't let him play, and this Saturday he literally only played 3 plays the entire first half. Lately he just seems kind of down, which I hate, even my Mom noticed it yesterday when she came over to watch the boys. I think we are going to try to take the boys to the beach or the zoo or something this weekend, heck, maybe I can talk DH into another accidental trip for the opening of the Haunted Mansion this weekend. Something to cheer him up some.

Happy Monday, WISHers!
I really really did not want to run this morning but I went out and did a very hilly 4 miles. I parked at the Y so that when I was done I went in and did some lifting for my core. I really think I need to incorporate that at least twice a week to get through 26.2 miles. The run was okay; the hills were tough but if I'm doing the Raleigh half I'll have to get used to it!
Mel - 5:50 is awfully early. I know I'd trip in the dark! Glad Freddy and Jason were still sleeping.
Kim - Good luck staying on top of this thread. I can usually do it for a couple of days but it is tough!
WWDave - Sleeping in on Sundays is great! Of course my definition of sleeping in is now 8:00 - that's pitiful!
SWDave - Still sending PD your way and hoping that you're doing okay.
Denny - As a fellow former Ohio native, welcome to the south! You're right; we've taken over!
Lisa - PD for the knee! I hope it's feeling better.
Bill - I hate it when the rain just makes it feel MORE humid! WTG getting your 10 miles done!
Jeanne - Mornings are feeling a little cooler, although the afternoons are still way too hot. Do you get out early?
Beth - Welcome to the club! I don't know how I'm ever going to run 26.2 miles or why I ever signed up in the first place! The only thing I can do is continue to take one more step at a time...
Jackie - Yay! So glad to hear you have a fracture (boy that really sound weird) and will be back for the Raleigh marathon! I'll look forward to seeing you there!
Stephanie - I too found it amazing that Lance was so challenged by the marathon (of course his pace was outrageous!). Running takes a strong body and a strong mind.
Dana - WTG with the amazing pace! I can only dream of getting that fast. Sorry to hear about DS's troubles. Really sorry that his coach doesn't seem to understand youth sports! Get a grip - they're 6 and they all should play equally!
Happy training, all! :)

Not much training to report, unless you count walking to and from a high school football game Friday night, shopping the mall with DS14 Saturday, walking from and to not-too-remote parking at a university football game Saturday night, or doing nearly 4 miles of easy paced stroll at the state park yesterday. Oh, yeah, there was also walking most of a parade route with DS's high school marching band yesterday. Poor Carrie got no sleep and very little training during a hectic weekend in the topsy turvy keenercam/keenho world! LOL!
We won't talk about pizza, philly cheesesteaks, midnight dinner of yogurt & fruit, etc. etc!
Denny -- so glad to see you here and know you are doign well! :goodvibes
Jackie -- I know it's a weird thing to say, but I am so glad it is only a fracture and the doctor is sounding so optimistic. Now STAY OFF THAT FOOT!!!!

Beth, I promise you that what you are feeling is normal for (most) everyone. There is always some point during my training as the miles get long and it seems my pace drops off the bottom of the chart that I question if I can finish another marathon. 20 miles in training is a long way; but 20 miles in a race is "oh my gosh! I'm actually going to finish this thing!" Honor your rest days and your training schedule and you will come out of this just fine. This is simply one of those tough training days that happens to everyone. You are not only OK, you are phenomenal!!! 20 miles, girl!!!! You are a goddess!!!!

Sorry to hear about DS, it is heartbreaking when Mom can't fix everything for them....talking from personal experience....DS is 18 and DD is 15 and I want to solve anything that comes up but I know I am not doing them any favours by not letting them work these things out.... but your DS is only 6, I think the teacher has to give them some slack, my motto as a parent is to "pick my battles" and it sounds like that what the teacher needs to do.
Jackie Sorry to hear about your MRI results, but nice to know you should be able to complete your event coming up.
Beth You can definatley do this!!!!:grouphug: Wow 16M, 20M those are all awesome distances. We are all with you along the way cheering you on cause we know you rock and you will get it done!!!!!:thumbsup2

MSWDave - Sorry to hear about your mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hugs to you!!!
I am slowing getting back into training. I was able to get outside and run a little over 3 miles yesterday - I went a new route and wasn't sure of the milage until I looked it up) I took it easy and walked alot since I am trying to get back into the swing of things. But it felt good to be out and getting some training in. I noticed somewhat of a cooler temp when I was running (not that I wasn't fully sweaty.) Hopefully this is is a sign that cooler weather is on its way (but I am not holding my breath since this is south Florida and we have maybe 2 cold days a year!! LOL)

Beth- if it makes you feel any better, as someone who is going Goofy, but has yet to run a LR over 9 miles, I take comfort in the fact that you had a hard long run. Not because I'm happy you suffered, but because you are setting an example of getting through it regardless. So when I'm whining this weekend doing my first double-digit run, I'll be able to think about you and how you went twice as far!! You go, girl! ;)
SWDave- I'm so sorry about your mom.
Dana- OK, I generally run about a 10 minute pace- if I bump the TM up to 8:00 (or run downhill LOL) it feels like I am flying! Really impressive pace and especially for 5 miles (I'd last a block, maybe). I'm sorry about your son's teacher/coach. The teacher needs to get a grip. And the coach- what's up with that? When my daughter played soccer, they rotated everyone, even the kids who always ran the wrong way! (My kid didn't run the wrong way, she just didn't run much at all in any direction:rolleyes1 )
Jackie- hope you get better really soon!
Renee- 4 hilly miles, and then lifting?! I'm impressed. I have yet to do any lifting unless you count lugging around a squirmy toddler!
Cam- Treats don't count when you are entertaining a friend! I mean, who wants to party over rice cakes and tuna?! It would be rude to not have something tasty.;)
As for training, I officially start my training plan today (I'm using a hodge podge method- a little of this and that).
So let's see-- Monday is a rest or cross day. Guess what- I'm right on schedule! :lmao: I may run a little tonight or do some cross training just because it feels so anti-climatic to do nothing now that I've "begun."
I did a little over 3 miles yesterday outside at 1:30. For some reason, it felt kind of cool when I started. I guess it was a residual effect of being in the A/C inside, because within a few minutes I was really hot. I kept plugging along anyway, just meandering around the neighborhood. Then DD and I went for about a 3 mile walk with a friend and her DD. I'm trying to get my friend interested in WISH and running- she has the mindset that she is out of shape, but she can actually walk a lot faster than me!

Jackie
That is actually wonderful news as from what I gather, a bone heals more quickly than a muscle or tendon!
A speedy recovery to you!

SW Dave: I am so sorry to hear about your mom......I lost my mom in 2001 and it was very difficult. I am sorry for your loss.
Beth
Let me introduce you two:
Beth....meet the wall!
The wall, meet beth! Please be nice to her next time.
In the meantime, beth, celebrate the positive! You didn't quit. you finished!
ON race day--take it easy. Don't try to win, just try to finish! Sometimes you can trick the wall that way.
And for most athletes, you spend the moments climbing that wall beating yourself up that you made the most foolish decision ever. Embrace that feeling. Then kick it to the curb! And enjoy the home stretch. :)

Hi friends. I did Body Pump this morning and a short run/walk. It was humbling to do the Body Pump class, let me tell you! Taking any time off doesn't sound so great anymore! I'm paying the price!
Jackie-- Speedy healing!:wizard: I think Lisa is right about a Fx healing faster than a soft tissue injury would. Follow your doctor's advice and recover quickly!
Beth-- I'm so impressed with your 20 miles, stonker or not. I've never run 20 miles and I'm not planning on running it any time soon. My body just couldn't go that far. Truly. I know the run was hard (which is normal!) but ...I'm so happy for you that you did it! That's awesome!:thumbsup2
Dana--how did you get faster??!! Any tips?? I think I only have one speed.:lmao:
Jen in Ga-- hey friend. Have you done any runs/walks with your daughter in prep for the TOT? I haven't done any yet with the boys and I'm starting to put more thought into how on earth we're going to manage! What was I thinking??!!
Have a great Monday!

Dana--how did you get faster??!! Any tips?? I think I only have one speed.:lmao:
Honestly, I started getting faster because I was doing the C25K with my DH for a couple of months. He is naturally just faster than I am and I seriously had to pick up the pace just to keep up with him. Then I started running 4 days a week instead of 3 and making one of those days a serious speed day. Tempo, Intervals, or Sprints at least once a week. I also have been running the last 1/3 of EVERY LR at my goal marathon pace 8:40mpm. I think all of these things have helped alot, and I am hoping for a sub 4:00 this year. I think there is some truth to the theory that in order to run faster you literally have to run faster!! Easier said than done, believe me I know!!

Dana- thanks for the tips! I wonder if I can commit to trying to be faster...
Vicki- training for ToT? Hmmm... well, we did walk about 3 miles yesterday, but it was a pretty slow pace. I'm planning on relying on the race atmosphere, the whole out late at night thing, the WISHers chatting, the promise of the medal and the rides at the end.
If that doesn't work, there's always dragging. You take two of yours, I'll have a free hand for the third! :lmao:

Dave – I am so so sorry! I do not even have the words to express how sorry I am for you. Please always feel free to post even if it is sad news. Let us know how you are doing. You are in my prayers.
Lisa – Be careful with the knee!
Beth – DO NOT DOUBT YOURSELF! Everyone has had a run like that. Now you have it out of the way and the marathon will be great!:cool1:
Denny – What 10k are you doing? You will find that Charlotte and the surrounding areas are full of people form other places. It is hard to find someone who has lived here all their life. DH and his family are the only ones I know of.:confused3
Jeanneg – AHHH the body! Yes, it was female and they are investigating it as a homicide!:scared1:
Jackie – Great news about the marathon. Now stay off that foot!
Dana – WTG on the run! You are flying! You are right! To run faster, you have to run faster. So sorry about DS! Hope that teacher loosens up a little.
Renee – WTG on getting out there and doing the run!
Wendy – Ron is doing that same marathon. I did keep my mileage up this year and last year…but I say the resting after Goofy is a lot more fun.:woohoo:
I had counseling appointments today (My job…I am a therapist) and DH apparently forgot about them…he was calling me over and over, but I did not know. He thought I had gone running and something had happened to me. Bless his heart. I always let him know if I run somewhere other than the treadmill or around the block.
On that note…I ran in the neighborhood today. 5 miles of hills. JRT really slowed me down she wanted to sniff EVERYTHING…so I took her home ˝ way through the run. Hill work is another way to increase speed with less chance of getting hurt. But DO NOT do hill work and speed work in the same week.
I am now tapering.

Hmmm....
took a rest day today....
I am wondering if this is an ITB thing. I had hubby do the roller on it--and let's just say...when it hurts like heck...(I have had it worked before)...I wonder if that is making for my knees to ache.:confused3
In any case--I will continue massaging them and stretching them properly.
But anyone else here have that?
I know some folks do fine with proper stretching, icing, and massage...
but I have known one person that had to switch to all walking b/c hers was so bad.
So just wondering.
Not a big deal--at least much better than a meniscus tear.

Download ITunes on your computer. It is free and a necessity to put music on the Ipod. Once loaded, open ITunes and stick your music CD's into the computer. Click yes a time or two and wait for it to put the music on the computer. Repeat as many times as necessary. Then hook up your Ipod to the computer and select the songs you want to transfer and have it sync up.

Hey all!! Well after a yucky day at work, I came home and did 37 minutes out on the road with the dog. IT WAS 49 DEGREES TODAY! And rainy, except when I was running. So it was a shock for me. I wore my tights and a long sleeve shirt. It just seems too early to be this cold. Let me tell you, even tho I am a cold wimp (and a hot wimp), I still went out and ran. My chest wasn't too happy with the cold damp air I was breathing!!!
Has anyone heard how Lynne did at the Ironman? Did I miss a post?? Sunday's weather turned rotten here, so I was thinking of her.

Hey everybody! I ran 3 miles last night, so I'm allowed to post today (my rule is no running/exercising then no posting), I know you are all so happy. ;) :) I had a decent run, I can't remember my time, but I was around an 11:00 mile. The hardest part of the run was having to constantly remind myself that I'm running for me and not in training, so my pace and overall time doesn't matter at all. That's going to take some time getting used to, I have never run purely for running's sake.
Did everyone see my beautiful city last night? I hate the Bengals with a passion, but I still love Cincinnati.   We won't even talk about the numerous questionable calls last night (the worst being the pass interference call on Todd Heap), I'm just thrilled to have football back!!
There have been lots of new members join our Wish team since I took my little hiatus, so to all the newbies: WELCOME!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I am going to attempt to catch up with everyone, attempt being the key word. ;)
Lisa--Sorry that you are having issues with your knee! I have battled in the IT band war before so I know how painful that injury is. :wizard: :wizard: to your knee and your Goofy training!
FL Bill--Thanks for the ITunes lesson for downloading cd's. I've had my shuffle for almost a year and I could never figure out how to download my cd's. I do have to say that ITunes is the EASIEST way to download music.
Monte--Give ITunes a chance, there are a TON of songs on there in every type of music. Good luck on your marathon!
SW Dave--Thinking of you and your family!
Kristi--Thanks for the PM!
Jen--49 degrees???? You are lucky! Yesterday it was 85 here and we thought we were in the middle of a cold front! Nice job getting out there in the rain! How is your PF doing?
Denny--Stephen and I were just talking about you and M'Lisse, wondering how the big move went. Are you still planning on running the ToT?
Christa--Your poor DH! I bet he was so worried when he couldn't get a hold of you! How are you handling the taper madness?
Dana--I can't believe how fast you are! I plan on using my time off to work on speed and getting faster, not that I'll ever be able to run a 8:40 pace, but I'd settle for upper 9:00's or lower 10:00's.
Beth--Congrats on your 20 miler!!!! Don't worry that the run wasn't that great, I'm pretty sure it's a rule that your 20 miler is going to be terrible. :) Kind of like a bad dress rehearsal makes for a great performance. You did the distance, so that's a HUGE victory!!!! Be very proud of yourself!
Kelley--I thought about you last night during the Bengals/Ravens game. We're only on the same side twice a year. ;)
Stephanie--Congrats on your 20 miler!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: The marathon is getting close for you and DH!!
Jackie--YAY on the fracture!!!! And lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that you'll be able to run the Raleigh half in November!
Cam--It sounds like you and Carrie had an awesome weekend together. I am very jealous that I wasn't there!
I better get off here and start working, I have been insanely busy the last month or so, once I start my day, there isn't any coming up for air. The good thing about that is the days are flying by! 45 days til WDW!!!!! :cheer2:

Lisa - Question. How are your shoes? I know having babies changed how I ran so I had to go with a different kind of shoe. The same thing happened when I lost weight. I now pronate (sp?) and I did not b/4.:confused3 I am assuming you go to a running store to get your shoes. So let them have a look at how you run and that MAY (or may not) help. Christa,
Good Luck on your big event. I stopped by the Charlotte Running Co. store in Ballantyne Parkway yesterday, asking about possible running areas. The store clerk directed me to the Col Francis Beatty park. I drove through it, and it looks like I would just need to "explore" to figure out where the various roads and paths lead to. It looks like a prime candidate for getting lost. I am going to give your friend a call for suggestions though. Thanks.

Greetings all -
The WTO aggravation continues. :headache: I was home yesterday because we got a little storage barn delivered. It's so cute! I just want to put window boxes and flowers on it. ;)
Saturday I did six miles at the track. I forgot to bring in my splits, but that's OK because they weren't so great anyway. We didn't get to the track until 7:30am and by then already it is completely in the sun. It was so hot and humid I couldn't stand it. Even at that hour. Then we went to a local Grange Fair and again I was out in the sun. Then Sunday was a rest day but we went to the Oyster Festival and all day we were out in the sun. Yesterday I was off and spent half the day....yup, out in the sun. Between the sun and the humidity I feel worn out. I'm kinda glad it's raining today. This morning I did three miles on the TM. I really feel like I'm getting back in the groove.
MSDave - My heart goes out to you and your family.
Krista - Kudos for you for doing what you know is the right thing for YOU. Take a break, but as others have said.....don't leave us. You know what happens when people disappear from here. :rolleyes1

Lisa - How's the knee today? The IT band? Have I mentioned how glad I am that you are back on the WISH board? I missed you here. :goodvibes
Jackie - Oh I'm glad it's broken instead of torn! (I know this sounds strange, even as I type it) Much better, right? Oh YAY!

Dave - sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in our thought and prayers.
Lynne finished her 5th Ironman in 14:31. It took until this race for Mike Ricci (the announcer) to say "Lynne Johnson you are an Ironman" as she crossed the finish line. Erin and I have come to the conclusion the reason she does these races it to find someone doing there first race and making sure they cross the finish line.
No training for Erin and I this weekend even though we were constantly on our feet walking for place to place to cheer Lynne on as she went by. We even walked a little of the second loop with her. She offered to let us walk the last 6 miles but we declined.
We are going to the gym tonight for cross training. Will get back to the walk/run program on Wed.
Great job to everyone for getting the steps in.

Kathy - Thanks for the update. Tell Lynne I said congrats!
Lisa - Hope the leg is feeling better
Jackie - While no one wants to be injured, I think a break is better than tendon/ligament damage. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Denny - Congrats and good luck in the new house!
After doing my 5K on Sat., my plan was a 4 miler on Sunday. The achilles said NO! I gave it a day of rest and did the 4 miles last night. Felt good. finished in 53:43 (13:26 mpm pace). :)
Went to Dr. today and had the echocardiogram and doppler done. Won't have the results for 2-3 days. Although the tech said the doppler looked good (no DVT's :thumbsup2 ). Hoping the echo is fine so that may rule out any heart issues. Then I'll just have to figure out why I'm just not feeling "right" (aside from being a member of YARC;) ).
It's raining here today, so I'll probably hit the gym tonight for some xt.

Happy Tuesday WISHers!
I ran 9+ miles in the wretched heat here and although the time wasn't so great, I still ran it. Then 3 miles on Sunday and rest day yesterday. Today I'm to run 4 miles (since I messed up last week and ran 5 1/2 miles instead of 4) and it's now raining. I'm not complaining, mind you, since we so desperately need it, but could it stop between 5 and 6:30 so I can run outside?
Dave:  Please know you are in our thoughts!
Lynne: congrats, IronMAN!!! You rock!
jeanneg: I think the course map shows we start at MGM studios parking lot and run out and down and around Wide World of Sports then back to the studios and run around in the park and finish at the Tower of Terror. Any idea what the bling looks like?
Judy: I hear ya on the awful heat this past weekend. I sure hope the weather is better this weekend!
Christa: good luck on your event this weekend! Let us know how it goes.
aladdinsgirl: :thumbsup2 on the run! Great job!!!
Jen117: I'll take the 49 degrees just for a couple days then the 60s are fine for me. But I'd really like a long run when it isn't so hot!!!

I ran/walked a 5k on the treadmill this morning and it wasn't pretty. Took me over 42 minutes. I didn't want to push myself but I wanted to finish. Thankfully I finished but still I didn't like my time. I signed up for a USATF stretch study. Just found out about it and signed up to participate. They are doing a study to determine the effect of pre-run stretching on running injuries. They have 2 different groups - the stretching group and the non stretching group and I was assigned to the non stretching group (probably because I don't normally do alot of stretching prior to my run.) So for the next 3 months I will be apart of this study. Hopefully it will result in some good research. I am allowed to stretch after or at some other time just not prior to running.
Lynne Congrats on being called an Ironman - how awsome for you!!!
Jen117 I would love some of that 49 degree weather down here!! Its still WAY to hot.
jeanneg I too find the map confusing - it looks like we are running up and through the big hat but I know that isn't the case. Looking at Google sattelite map as compared to the corse map its not that easy to figure out once it gets into MGM - I think I followed it for a little over 5 miles but couldn't figure out the the other 3 which must all be within MGM.
Christa Good luck this weekend

Happy follow up for me!!! Complete details are in post 9 of my Walking Mayday thread!!!
But my knee is TOTALLY HEALTHY!!!!
Saw PT today (they called to schedule an appt for another problem and were able to squeeze me in today since my cruise is Saturday).....
Went in for the little devil called the sacrum and psoas---wholly Moses, my PT is awesome though I think in a prior life he worked the torture chamber trying to fold folks into pretzels for fun!
Basically--I am crooked! Yep---tilted, so it LOOKS like one side is longer than the other--but b/c of that little devil being tight, it pulls on the spine and causes me to tilt to one side....then b/c of that, it caused the ITB to get fussy....and b/c it got fussy, the knee decided to speak her peace and cause problems.
He checked and couldn't make my knee do "the pop" so all the crackling is b/c of the ITB and not any particular knee issue!
So YEAHHHHHH!!!!
I will resume training tomorrow, but hubby and I are going to go about simpler methods! I DO NOT WANT TO BE INJURED!!!! So maybe more walking, less running...I don't know yet.
Still want to finish within 7 clock hours (not chip hours---I lose track and all the course clocks are set to official time anyway!)
I will also going back to wearing my knee strap. It gave me much confidence during the Donald in 2006--doesn't really do anything but provide pschyological support (aka placebo effect), but I do feel that at least it prevents the knee from doing something wacky.
Any thoughts....anyone!!! What would you do if you were wearing my running shoes?

Lisa - Question. How are your shoes? I know having babies changed how I ran so I had to go with a different kind of shoe. The same thing happened when I lost weight. I now pronate (sp?) and I did not b/4.:confused3 I am assuming you go to a running store to get your shoes. So let them have a look at how you run and that MAY (or may not) help. Good luck and lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you.
I just started a new stability pair.
Yes I did try them out in a running store and have been checked. I can go stability or motion control, but I have only had 1 motion control that I have liked. The others I have tried and used I hated.
I updated at the post above...
But all signs, poking, prodding, observing, and palpating (is that the right word) of my body point to this all being caused by the psoas muscle tightening up.
I will be firing him immediately. I don't know his purpose, but I don't want him anymore. That little devil causes way to many problems for me!
The good news is I can be fixed--have been fixed before and will again. I had to stop all the exercises I had from my last therapy (kept up with it for about a year) due to being so sick while pregant then too big while pregant.
I have been putting this off since the big boy was born as I had planned all along to go get it corrected.

Lisa - How's the knee today? The IT band? Have I mentioned how glad I am that you are back on the WISH board? I missed you here. :goodvibes
Judy, you are such a sweetheart!
Since about 90 minutes ago, I feel a million times better than this morning!
WTG on your 6 miles! I've been gone so long--when did you join the Distance Diva Club???? WTG!!!

Well. I got in my 3 miles today, it was supposed to be a nice and easy run (since I ran my tempo yesterday). Unfortunately being so close to breaking an 8 min mile yesterday caused me to act like an idiot and try to break that 8 min mile today. I did it, but I'm kind of mad at myself now. This weekend is supposed to be a 13 mile LR, and I am in the middle of training for the Full in January, and I am out acting like a dummy. This is the kind of stuff that hurts people in training, and my hip is a bit tight now (I think that's because the route I have been running lately is rather hilly), but you would think I would know better. Here's my time and splits. I am gonna go continue telling myself I should know better.
Mile 1: 7:55
Mile 2: 7:52
Mile 3: 7:34
Total: 23:21

I signed up for a USATF stretch study. Just found out about it and signed up to participate. They are doing a study to determine the effect of pre-run stretching on running injuries. They have 2 different groups - the stretching group and the non stretching group and I was assigned to the non stretching group (probably because I don't normally do alot of stretching prior to my run.) So for the next 3 months I will be apart of this study. Hopefully it will result in some good research. I am allowed to stretch after or at some other time just not prior to running.
This sounds fascinating. Please keep us posted on how it's going & how the study turns out.

Well, I actually got to finish a planned run (I use the term loosely) -- mostly walking. But, I am discovering that I run slower than many of the WISH walkers -- so even walking is a workout for me. ;) 2.5 miles :cool1:
Anyway, my workout yesterday was cut short by kid bickering that I had to stop and referee, then it was too late to finish before the next chauffering had to start. Better planning paid off today, and while there was some complaining when I came in at least they managed not to kill each other -- or interrupt me!:woohoo:
Stacey I love the quote about being pecked to death by chickens! Those chicks are cute, but boy can they peck sometimes!
The puppy (and DS) are finally getting their morning routine worked out so I think my runs can move back to morning. It's more relaxing if I don't have to wonder if the kids are killing each other while I'm sweating. I like to sweat in peace.

SWDave - My DW and I would like to send our most heartfelt condolences in this very difficult time to you and your family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Beth - Great job on finishing the 20 miles. It will get better. When I did my 18 mile LR a couple of weeks ago, it was like your 20. A major STONKER! But the next LR went great. You will have a great marathon!
Krista - So the next time I see you and Steve, I will make sure I am out of arms reach when I do the Icky Shuffle while wearing "Ocho Cinqo" and singing "Who Dey?".....just kidding I'm not a Bengals fan. To make up for it, I'll offer Steve a nice cold Coca-Cola and maybe he'll toss me his jersey.:)
Jackie - PD :wizard: for a quick recovery in time for the Raleigh half.
Denny - Congrats on surviving the move. Consider it "off season" cross training.
Christa - Good luck on your Century Ride this weekend!
Cam - Thank you for recommending that book "Devil in the White City". I picked it up and am half way through it. Very interesting. I am planning a trip back to Chicago (maybe next month) to go to Jackson Park.
Judy - Good job on the 6 miles at the track...splits smitchtz - Your BACK!
Mel - What....no Lime Green?!? We gotta talk to these SIGG people!
Training Note:
48 min today at a 4/2 pace. Tapered my LR starting this past Sunday with a 14 miler. Will do a 10 miler next Monday and that will be it for LR until my marathon debut on the 23rd.
Happy Training!

SWDave – my heart aches for your loss. :grouphug: Lots of prayers for you & your family.
Jackie – glad to hear your Raleigh marathon isn’t completely out. Remember DLF > DNF >> DNS
Beth – 20 miles is not bad….it’s incredible!!! Don’t give up! We know you can do it.
Tricia – good job. As Bill Murray says in “What about Bob?”…doing the work…baby step’n. That’s how you start & that’s how you keep it going: one baby step after the other.
I'm starting slow after 6 months off. Have worked up to 1 mile run & Ľ walk tonight. No land speed records, but with the penguin & turtle as my mascots it’s not about speed but going the distance.
Found these for inspiration to help us get thru this weeks struggles (mental or physical)…

Good morning WISH Team.
Wow what a temp change, it's been 70s every morning for months here in Southern Ky, yesterday it was 66 and today it's 53. It feels almost cold out there. My walk should be very pleasent, planning on 4 to 5 miles.
I'm enjoying my coffee and cereal and about ready to head out for the Gym.
Poll question, how many of you eat breakfast before you work out? My theory, originally told to me by Denise Austin (one of my heroes) is that you will do better and burn fat more efficienty if you have a small breakfast before you head out.
Have a great day everyone.

Today is a non running day. I hopefully will get some stretching and strength in today but who knows. Tomorrow I have a run outside in the morning planned (that is if I can get out of bed in enough time!! LOL) Just wanted to post a story about a local high school cross country meet that had an awful outcome for one student. Hopefully they will be able to tell what happened.

Good morning everyone! Not much to report today. I took a total rest day yesterday b/c it seems that my cold has made a rally and I feel bad all over again. I don't know if it was from my stonker 20 miler or not......but I felt really bad! Today I have jaw pain and a headache. I will run some today, but I am not pushing it. I want to get to the marathon start line healthy (and happy!), so I don't feel the need to push it.
Nancy:I missed pump class......how did it go? I was planning on it, but I felt rotten at that point! DH offered to go out to eat (to save me the cooking time) but I couldn't even do that! You know if I didn't go out to eat, that I felt pretty bad!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Dave: I usually eat breakfast every day, but if I am going for a run I usually only have a banana or something. I do need a little something before a long run though, or I totally run out of gas. Glad your weather is better!
Jackie: Sending you lots of PD for the injury!
CJ: Thanks for the great quotes! I love the Penguin! And he is right.....I do need to push what I think are my limits.....I never think I can do anything!
Sir Bouncealot: Thanks for the encouragement.....feeling pretty low right now. I just think if I tank on the 20 miles, what the heck am I going to do with 26.2? But I am glad that your experience was similiar!
Have a good day everyone!

Good morning Vic, W'sup with you wild man. I was thinking about you this moning while I was showering in our co-ed locker room at the gym, they encourage the use of towels to and from the shower but most ignore that and just go la'natural.
I had a wonderful walk this morning, the temp was 53, about 20 degrees lower that it has been so it was perfect walking conditions. I did 4.5 miles on the hills in 57:05 including the slower first mile to warm-up.
Well time to have something to eat and get ready for work. And Vic I was kidding about the co-ed locker room, thought that would wake you up though.

Hey everyone-
So far I am doing ok on my goofy training plan (it's just week 1, but it's a start!) I did 3 miles yesterday and 5 today. I printed out my calendar so I can write completed workouts in the boxes in green ink (in theory I'll use red if I don't finish a workout). Worrying about that stupid green ink and how I didn't want a red entry kept me going on the most boring TM run in recent history! How simple am I that I can manipulate myself?! :rotfl:

Tricia - I can't believe about that poor kid. Something just doesn't sound right. I ran Cross Country in high school, and some of our courses even ran through very large ditches, but to end up in a pond that's 10 feet away from the course between mile 1 and 2? It just doesn't add up. Please post an update if you ever hear one, I can't imagine how that could happen.
Vic - Wassup?!
WW Dave - You know you shouldn't do that! I actually was taking you serious. I was trying to imagine how they could get away with a co-ed locker room!! I don't know about Vic, but I am sure awake now!!
Jen - That's the kind of calendar I need to work out. I sometimes get really upset with myself when I skip out on a run. If I had it in front of me in RED ink every time I fluffed off I would probably do it alot less!! ::yes::
As for me today is a rest day. Thankfully I feel much better about yesterday. 1) my hip isn't hurting as bad today, and 2) I can't stay mad at myself for too long (who would I talk to?). I wish I could find a way to NOT push myself hard every run. I do go out with every intention of a nice SLOW run, and always end up trying to make a PR. This isn't my first time around this track, I really should know better, but..... All I can do is try and keep my inner speed demon under control. Anyway, I hope that everyone has a wonderful day!! I am off to clean, wash laundry, mow the yard, and go grocery shopping!! Doesn't that sound like fun?!

Good afternoon all!!
Just a real quick drive-by.......
I have been incredibly busy the past few days-- working five doubles in a row plus beginning marathon training (finally!) this week! :cool1: Definatley an LTO week
Monday I did 3 miles in 28-ish and then another 3 miles on Tuesday at 27-ish with another 5 miles scheduled for today. So far, so good!!
We leave tomorrow for a week in Ft Lauderdale. I will be needing to get up early weekend to get my LRs in, but at least there is no chance of snow, right?? And to top it all off, it looks like we might be able to fit in a day to drive up to Orlando for a day at Epcot :yay: :yay:
I apoligize for not having time to read through all the other responses right now. Hope everyone's training is going well!!! Just 17.5 weeks now!!
Happy training!

Greetings Everyone: Thank you all so much for your concern and sympathy over the death of my Mother. I really appreciate it. We're getting ready to leave now to drive down to Delaware for Saturday's services. I'm hanging in there. There's been a lot of ups and downs this week, and at times I've felt like an empty shell. Thanks for all your support though.
I did get out and run the past 3 days, just to get outside and get distracted. The runs weren't great, but it was good to be outside.
Christa- I wanted to WISH you the best in your century ride for MS. Such a great cause, and I'll be thinking of you. You're doing great things!
All my best to my teammates. I'll be back on Sunday.

Hi, I'm new to the WISH board and Vic pointed me here to introduce myself. :goodvibes thanks, Vic!
Dave, don't know you, buddy, but so very sorry about your loss. hugs to you!
I wanted to pop in since I've started posting on the event page and I didn't want anyone to wonder, "who the heck is that?" I was fortunate enough to meet one WISHer at the DL 1/2 last week.
I'm in F40-44 AG, been running since 1998, and triathlons since 1999. I'm not fast (I see some speedy times posted here!) but I have fun. One day...oh, please Tinkerbelle send some Pixie Dust...I will go sub-9 min. miles for a 5K. I was close last year, but not quite there.
I'm just getting back into a training routine after doing an Ironman race (my 5th!) this summer. I slacked off for a couple of months, but now it is time to get ready for my first Goofy! (have done the 1/2 3x and full once there). TOT run just got put on the schedule, too...just in the nick of time!
OK...so that's me! Happy training and racing!!

Hi WISHers!
Well today I just did not want to run. The whole way I wanted to walk, without any good reason at all. I never got into a "groove". I was doing a bit of a different route through some older neighborhoods in town (read shady and rolling hills). I was on my way back to the main road and came upon a very very steep block. I think my jaw hit the pavement! :scared: :crazy2: :faint: I paused, thought about what a true athlete would do, and turned the corner to take a more gradual slope back up. Let's just pretend I did that because I'm trying to stay healthy and not injure myself! :rolleyes1 Anyway, I got in 4 miles followed by some sprints and I did run the whole way. It was nice and cool, even at 9:00!
WWDave - I always eat a mini bagel with cream cheese washed down with Pepsi, the breakfast drink of champions!
Tricia - So sad about that xc runner! We had one end up in the hospital here for several days b/c of the heat.
Jen in GA - I have my training plan on the refrigerator for all to see and I check off the workouts I complete.
Dana - Laundry + mowing + groceries does not equal rest day!
Kevin - Good job with getting in the 2 3 milers; good luck with the 5!
Bill - I read the farmer's almanac is calling for a warm winter. Let's hope that doesn't translate into a hot, humid marathon weekend!
I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with WWDave thinking about me in the shower. :rolleyes1 :confused3 :lmao: None of us are!
MSDave - You continue to be in my prayers; feel free to PM me if you need to "talk" to someone who's just gone through all this.

Ok Bill I did everything you've said, but when I go to listen to the shuffle it plays music that I've never heard before??? How do I get my music into the shuffle? I'm horrible at computers!
ETA - If it doesn't automatically ask you to download them, click on the import button in the bottom right hand corner.

Good evening WISH team!
I ran 4 1/2 miles yesterday and felt fine. It was rainy and cool but the rain held stopped just when I wanted to run, so I ran outside. It drizzled on and off but it felt kind of good. Then today I ran 3 miles. I've got some sort of problem with the outside top of my right foot and when I finished the run, it really hurt. There's no bruise and I don't remember hurting it, so I have no idea what's wrong. I iced it and will ice it again and it is feeling better. But it hurts when I walk when I roll my weight onto it. Weird.
Tricia: good luck with the stretching study. I hope you don't get hurt by not stretching, although that would show something to the researchers!
Becky: congrats on signing up for the Goofy but I thought that was filled a long time ago. How did you manage to sign up for it?
Lisa: I am so happy to hear your knee is fine but LOL re: crooked body! I think just about everyone is off-kilter so to speak!!
Dana: :cool1: on your 3 mile run! Great splits--now, don't hurt yourself!!
Dona: maybe you ought to take the darling children out with you so they can run off some energy.
Andrew: you have a marathon on September 23? Good luck to you!!!
CJ: I like those inspirational sayings! Thanks for sharing them.
WWDave: I've heard that too but I'm always afraid of eating as I might hurl. Maybe it's what I eat and how much.
Beth: how did the run go? I hope you get better soon! :wizard:
Kevin: happy to hear you've started the marathon training! Are you following any plan in particular?

I did get 3.25 miles in today. on the treadmill -- while the kids did their version of football -- which bears no resemblance to the actual game -- or to any players, living or dead. The treadmill is in what we loving refer to as the "workshop" -- it's a place to park and store stuff -- no heat or air, but lights and electricity. :woohoo: so I'm sort of outside with them. Close enough to hear if there's blood loss.
Martha Actually, that's how I managed yesterday. They were playing their "calvin ball" style game that involves a ball that pops open at unexpected times. I forget what it's called. Anyway -----enough rambling.
Hope everyone has a great evening.

let's see...I did 3 miles on Mon in 40:39 on the TM. That was R4/W2. I did 30 min XT with some stretches and exercises for core last night,. Today was 3 miles on the TM in 39:44. That was R3/W2. I still have some work to do pacewise, but I'm pretty happy with the way things are going. My foot's holding up (knock on wood), so I'm hoping the extra stretching is helping. I'm kinda thinking about studying for the personal trainer exam, but not sure what I'd do with it once I got it. I don't think I really need anymore initials after my name, but I see a lot of patients that are struggling with weight and wondering if the trainer certification would help.

Vic...your schedule looks familiar...are you following the higdon plan, too?
Martha...how's your higdon going? And what are we having for dinner? don't worry about the locker room talk...we can always start up a jog bra or running skirt conversation ;)
Tricia...that study sounds cool! What kind of stretching are you doing?
Renee...great job on the 4 miles! It's always hard to run when your brain doesn't want to come with.
Jackie...hope the foot is healing well! I'm not good at sidelining for injury.
Dave...:grouphug: thinking about you and your family.
Dana...we're taking a not-so-accidental trip to MK this weekend for the HM reopening. What day are y'all going?
Bill, Lynnda...are you guys coming over for the HM? We could have a little mini-meet!
Kevin...what day are you coming up to EPCOT?
Krista...:yay: :yay: it's football season! I thought about you guys when the Bengals game was on. I never got a fantasy team this year so I'm watching just for fun now.
I found some of the SIGG bottles at Whole Foods. They are great! Tried the 20 oz for my run tonight...love the way the top works. And they are sooo light! No more plastic bottles that I save and refill...and no more plastic bottles in the landfill (I may be a bit of a treehugger  )

Hey everyone, I just realized I have been lurking the last couple of days. I guess I didn't get time to post after reading all the shenanigans. Yesterday I did 35 minutes of cross training (25 on the EFX and 10 on the rotating stair thing). Tonight I did 40 minutes run walk. It was bad news, I just couldn't get into the groove, so my walk intervals were 5 minutes. But my time was still OK, so I am not upset about it. I did 2.75 miles in 40 minutes with 1/2 of it walking.
Krista - Thanks for popping in! My foot is doing pretty good. I am really impressed that it only has been slightly sore after long runs, but I can stretch the pain out. Now my LR's are really quite short at the moment, so I am not sure how my foot will be once the miles start piling on.
Mel - I am liking the longer walks also. It gives my breathing a break and I don't feel so worn out. And if it gets me to the finish, that's all I am asking for. Good Job your runs. I am glad your foot is doing OK, mine is holding up pretty well at the moment also.
Martha - Your DD sounds like my DH. He will offer to cook dinner, but then asks so many questions that I might as well do it myself! I hope it was good.
SWDave - I am glad you have running to help you through this difficult time. :grouphug:
Bill - Why are you asleep so late in the morning???
OK, I gotta get some things done. Between training, kids homework, dinner and house stuff, I don't have enough time in my evening. Ughhhh!

Let's try this again. Bad storms tonight. Knocked the power out right in the middle of my post. :sad2:
Vic...your schedule looks familiar...are you following the higdon plan, too?
Yep, doing the Higdon novice plan.
Couldn't get outside tonight due to the weather, so it was 3 miles on the TM.
Glad to hear the foot is doing well.

Mel - One of the staff members of our cardiac rehab team started as a registered dietician. Most of the other staff come from a nursing background. She felt it would be good to be able to rehab them physically and counsel them on better eating habits at the same time. You never know, a personal trainer certificate may be beneficial. Good luck!
Ironz - A big hearty WELCOME to ya!
Jen - Sorry you didn't get in the groove for your run. Was it physical, mental, a little of both? How's the weather up in Wisconsin? We're having cool but beautiful weather here in eastern Iowa.
Vic - W'Sup big guy!
Dona - Thats the best way to play football. Plus it's no blood, no foul.
Martha - Hope the rain was nice and cool rather than the hot, humid, still sticky rain. Hope your foot gets to feeling better.
WWDave - I don't think your gonna live that post down any time too soon. They're still gonna be talking about it come Marathon Weekend '08.
Anne - Thank you very much for the pictures. They turned out great!
I love how the Florida WISHers say they accidentally end up at WDW. I, on the other hand, accidentally end up opening the freezer when I really wanted the fridge. I open the wrong cupboard, enter the wrong password, and even (yes this is a man admitting this here - don't tell my DW Darcey aka DJBounce)... accidentally take a wrong turn now and then. Maybe in Florida y'all live soooo close to the magic that your accidents lead you to WDW. Well, give Mickey a hug for me...I really miss that mouse!:sad1:
Training Note:
I am fortunate enough to live really close (like three blocks) from the bike path that winds through most of Davenport. I don't have to drive there, and my walking to it and back to my home after my runs constitutes as warm ups and cool downs. But today I thought I would mix it up a bit. The city next to Davenport has a bike path that connects with Davenport's so I thought I would head over and run in Bettendorf for my 60 min of 4/2 (r/w). It was a nice change of scenery. The weather was picture perfect - mid 60's, no clouds, all sun. Turned out to be a great run. Loved it! I even saw a small school of fish swimming in the creek that runs along next to the bike path, the water was sooo clear. A real Zen like run for me.
Happy Training!

Bill, Lynnda...are you guys coming over for the HM? We could have a little mini-meet!
Yep, I think the plan is to go over on Saturday morning sometime. Since I am not the official event coordinater, I don't have the exact times. I am just the driver so I may not be privy to that information yet. :lmao:
Bill - Why are you asleep so late in the morning???
With a little one, I tend to operate on auto-pilot for most of the day. ;) Normally I get up around 5 and get into work around 6 so I am awake but around lunchtime I usually want a nap so I pretend that I am asleep. :rolleyes1

We head our for the store and then 90 minutes later we are in the Disney parking lot...I think Mickey put a chip in the car to drag us over at random times just so we can help support the company.
Ok Bill I did everything you've said, but when I go to listen to the shuffle it plays music that I've never heard before??? How do I get my music into the shuffle? I'm horrible at computers!
I am going off memory now so I hope it is close. In Itunes, if you click on the Library (left column box) you will see all the songs that Itunes has in it. There are a few songs that come with your computer or Itunes brought in. We have seen several of these and take them off. You can click on the little box next to the song to have it deselected. Once the shuffle is plugged into the computer, you should be able to see what songs are on the shuffle as well. If you see something that shouldn't be there, go back to the library and find that song and deselect it. Make sure the shuffle syncs up and makes any changes you want.

Good morning WISHers! :goodvibes Nice to hear from so many the last few days!
I ((((finally)))) had a great 5 mile run last night. I felt rested, my legs had energy, I got into a groove by mile 1, and the weather was cool and breezy! It was pretty much perfect. It has been a long time since I had a pleasant run, and I enjoyed it immensily! I wanted to make it longer, but I am supposed to be tapering.....so I didn't want to push it!
Ironz: Welcome to the group! Glad to have you.
WWDave: So, yeah it will be awhile until people stop ragging on you about that "co-ed" post!:rotfl: Oh, well, it could have been worse!
Nancy: You have been suspeciouly quiet......did you get your 8 miles in this week?

Good morning, team!!!! The weather is finally cooling off here, it's down right chilly in the mornings. :yay: I had the best 3 mile run last night, it almost made me wish I was still training for Columbus. Almost. ;) I decided that I would do r4/w1 intervals and during the running intervals I would not let my pace dip into the 11:00's and during the walk intervals I would not let my pace dip past 14:30. I finished 3 miles in 32:00 with splits of 10:54, 10:37, and 10:32. Not as impressive as Dana's splits, but I was excited none the less. :) I think I'm going to do 4 miles tonight and then maybe 6 on Saturday. I want to run at least 15 miles a week, so all that will add up to 16 miles.
Hoos Jen--Congrats on officially starting Goofy training!!
Mel--Hmm, those water bottles look like something I would like! I usually reuse my plastic bottles or if I'm just making loops, leave a water bottle sitting on the driveway, I can't run with a regular water bottle because they sweat so much. I was wondering if you were doing your fantasy league this year. You know, we have so many big football fans on the Wish team, we could have done our own fantasy league. I definitely could have made a draft in say Epcot or the Magic Kingdom. :)
SW Dave--I'll be thinking about you Saturday. You and your family are in my prayers.
Martha--:wizard: for your foot!!!
Andrew--Thanks, Joe! ;) By the way, you scared me for a minute with all the Ocho Cinco stuff, I thought, "if he is a Bungels fan, we are so not friends anymore". :) I remember last fall there was a poster who posted on this thread a couple of times and then vanished, I was so glad that she didn't stick around because she was from Cincinnati, BUT she was a Bungels fan. I talk so much smack during football season, I thought there was no way she would take anything I said about running seriously and we would have a throw down at the next Wish meet. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Christa--In case I don't make on it here before Saturday, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:
Jen--YAY for getting your steps in! Sorry the run wasn't the best, but at least you were out there. Are things getting a little better for your family?
I better get off here and get to work, I had to post real quick when I had a few minutes and I'm not bombarded with paper work! Have a great day everyone! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! :wave2:
I feel terrible that I haven't even really been lurking around here for the past several months. Talk about a giant LTO!
But I have an excuse! A really really good one!
DH and I signed up for both the DL Half for this year and the WDW Half for this coming January. When I was signing up for both events way back in February, I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be funny if I got pregnant now that we've committed to do these races?"
Yup, pretty funny indeed, because that's precisely what's happened!!!! :)
I'm due in January (over marathon weekend), so it looks like we'll be cheering y'all on from home this year. DH and I are both SO excited - this will be our first little one. :cloud9:
So, that's my story. I've been so tired that I haven't even done much walking at all. We did still go to DL last week and watched part of the race go through DTD, but we didn't see any WISH shirts. We did search for them, though!
I'm hoping to get back into some sort of a fitness routine, even if it's much reduced from what we were doing earlier this year. I actually miss getting out and moving! Hoping for some cooldown in the weather so it won't be so miserable outside. I figure if I can get back in the groove now, it will be much easier for me to pick it back up after baby arrives. And I'm determined that we'll be doing the Donald in 2009!
I'll try to do better about keeping up here, too. I miss chatting with everyone!

I figured I would post a link to the stretch study I am participating in http://www.usatf.org/stretchStudy/
I am not worried about injuries by not stretching pre run because I normally don't stretch pre run (I do post run and other times of the day just normally not pre run) so its not really anything different for me.
I think I have made up my mind to start training for a half marathon :scared1: I don't know if I am crazy or not but it just so happened that yesterday I sat down and actually made a training schedule together for the 13k and I looked at the local marathon date (Marathon of the Palm Beaches) and it happens to be 12 weeks away and the Hal Higdon training schedule for novices for a half marathon is 12 weeks and the training schedule I had made out for the 13k (following Hal Higdon's 15k training schedule) had me doing more at most times then the 1/2 training schedule did so I merged the 2 and am on track for a Dec 2 1/2 marathon. In the mean time I signed up for 2 more events in Oct. Oct 13 I am running a 5k in my town (I am actually really excited to run a race in my town which is also my hometown) Then the other event I am doing is Oct 20 - a walk for Making Strides for Breast Cancer. I figured those are good warm ups for the 13k and worked them into my training schedule. It also keeps me motivated.
Sorry this is just a drive by and a post only about me :sad2: but I am wishing everyone :wizard: pixie dust and good wishes for happy training!!

Did everyone get that email from Disney Sports? It was thanking me for signing up and saying the Tower of Terror race was full.
It also talked about the after race party. Said the Rockin Rollercoaster would be going and there would be a live band, some thing about a band you never heard of, I think they said AeroSmith or something like that. Should be lots of fun anyway.

Post-Event Party
After the race, runners are invited to an exclusive race party which will last from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The party will include a live band. The following attractions will be open for the party: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster® starring AEROSMITH, and The Great Movie Ride. You can buy additional party tickets for your friends and family. If your friends and family want to watch the race, they must buy a party ticket. Everyone will need a party ticket to enter Disney-MGM Studios from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. There will be no spectator viewing available outside of Disney-MGM Studios. Admission to the party requires a separate ticket, annual passes and Cast Member ID's will not be valid for admission to the party.
Unless I missed something I think they are referring to the fact that the Rock'n'Roller Coaster is called the "Rock'n'Roller Coaster starring AeroSmith" Please tell me I am wrong and that Steven Tyler will be there and I will be in heaven!!

Seeing how its an "exclusive party" with a "live band", I'll have to bring my digital camera with video ability. Don't think it would be "exclusive" unless it was going to be good. (I figure even Disney wouldn't charge $25.00 for non-racers for 3 rides unless there was more.) I'm only doing the 6.5K, so hopefully I'll be able to get a good vantage point if I survive the Twilight Zone 6.5K White Abyss at the beginning.

Then I have to tell them we are leaving the He is missing the Thursday and Friday before the Marathon and at LEAST the Monday afterwards!! We have to get there early because DS6 is running the 5k on Friday, and I refuse to get in a car and drive all the way home (3 hours) after running a marathon so we aren't coming home until Monday, and may just stay a few extra days for the heck of it!!

Steven Tyler is wrapped up in all things Disney!! He vacations there quite a bit too. About 3.5 years ago we had taken DS (now6) for his 3rd birthday and we were riding Splash Mountain. I had seen Steven Tyler get off of one of the logs as we were in line waiting to get one. Whoever he was riding with stayed on to go again. When we did our one trip and got off we went down to look at our pictures, and there he was standing there like he was just a regular person. I was playing with DS while DH was looking at our pictures and Steve Tyler kept watching us play and was smiling at us. I wouldn't say anything to him because I didn't want to interrupt his trip or risk drawing attention to him, but a couple seconds later someone started trying to get his pictures and some Disney CM's came out a door and led him away! That is my one and only celebrity sighting EVER!! And Steven Tyler was smiling at ME!!

Vicki, we are just reading the sign, and Robert's source is not denying it:
Who would be the perfect band for that event to play right next to the Rocken Rollercoaster?
This is DisneyWorld, the band is going to be a good one. They can afford anyone they want.
Of course they didn't put the name of the band in the information, there would be a lot of party crashes if they did. So keeping it hush?
Disney has promised some special surprises for this first ever event. You really think they are not thinking AeroSmith for the party?

You're right, though. It could happen. I just don't want to get my hopes up (or my 11 year old's hopes up!) and be wrong. You're right, though. It could happen. I just don't want to get my hopes up (or my 11 year old's hopes up!) and be wrong. I know Disney could do it, but still..........why would they put that much effort into another race seeing as RFTT and the Minnie aren't exactly wait-listing and TOT is a similar type of race. I really, really, REALLY, want it to be true! How cool would it be???!!!!!!!!!
)
Yep Erica and I are hoping just like you. But doesn't it seem odd that they are not giving out the name of the band, you know they have it lined up. Unless it's to keep from having a security problem of party crashers.
Disney is not run by dumb people, if they have a party with a band like AeroSmith then the Disney races will be filling up even faster and what better way to fill the parks during the slow seasons.
We are getting a new camera to be ready. Of course you know Robert and I will ask about a WISH meet with the mystery band after the show. All they can do is say no, but sometimes you get lucky, like we did when we asked for a longer finish time for this event.

I can just see all the WDW news sites citing an "unnamed source" on this. Seems like Disney has a hard time keeping a secret.

We'll be enjoying the race no matter what!
Good point about RFTT and Minnie. Then again, Disney scheduled the ToT for a couple weeks after RFTT and while BOTH the ToT 13K and the 6.5K have sold out completely, the RFTT, which has been open longer, is only up to like 70% full. (I don't know how many participants there are for each event though.) Now, maybe its the pull of a night run, just something new (but the marathon goes through MGM and wasn't the marathon weekend 5K at MGM last year too) or maybe people down there are expecting something "special" at this. Hey, I am new to all this and don't know anything. What ever happens, I plan on having fun.

No lawyer required. Worst comes to worst, just use the insanity defense.
Lets review the facts. Pats are playing a game off some exit in New Jersey against the New York Jets. New York is where the NFL headquarters are located. At the visiting teams field (not even trying to pull this off at a home game mind you) they send out the same guy who has been accused of doing the same thing in the past, while visably wearing Patriots credentials, to allegedly tape the opposing coach's signals. Mind you, the head coach of the opposing team, until last year, was the Patriots defensive coordinator and knows the guy allegedly video taping signals. In addition, the head of the opposing teams video department is also a former video assistant for the Patriots who worked with the guy allegedly taping signals while both were with the Patriots. This has to be one of the worst covert operations ever designed. Luckily he must have obtained a lot of information quick and hid it somewhere, because the camera and video were confiscated in the first quarter, and it wasn't until the second quarter and second half that the Patriots blew out the Jets 38-14. Joe Namath, however, might want to keep a lawyer on permanant retainer. I especially enjoyed him appearring on Monday night football in a drunken stuper trying to get a kiss from the sideline reporter (and yes WWDave, the sideline reporter was a she).

As far as the patriots, I decline to comment much more on that conversation, but also keep in mind they also have to account for the headsets with multiple frequencies that were on their side lines. Morning all - well I'm back from my travels and I haven't caught up with the whole thread, but I do want to say sorry to Dave as I got that far.
Sooooo, started my Goofy training two weeks ago which is all seeming a bit real now - jet lag seriously messes with your running though. I ran twice last week in Hong Kong and it was like moving through mud - admittedly, I decided one day that it would be a great idea to run outside only to discover that there might have been clouds and grey sky but it was still about 90 degrees, I managed 26 minutes before admitting defeat. Strangely enough I was found in the nice air conditioned gym the next day - though I still couldn't run for more than 2km straight, which wouldn't be such an issue if I didn't have a half next Sunday!! Need to get out for an hour today then two tomorrow - head feels like cotton wool at the moment though so am waiting for energy to kick in before heading out or it'll be nasty stonker run.
Has anyone else noticed that once you start running regularly for 2 hours, that nice 'this feels good' feeling that used to kick in at 10 minutes, now doesn't kick in until 30 minutes? I'm pretty sure that was also part of my problem in the gym - short run and no 'happy feeling' on treadmill makes Helen a whiny exerciser who has to walk to stop herself getting off completely!!!.
Anway, that's me for today, except to say I though of Kristi the other day when I saw about bandcamp - because there's so many Aussies and Kiwis in it, it's made news here too and as soon as I saw Johnny do dad I though, I know who'll be watching that. Anyway, best go - hundreds of emails to clean before lunch when I need to run for 60 minutes (I know I've already told you that, I'm just convincing myself!!!). Helen

I have a few training questions I hope somebody can answer. After the RFTT, I'll be getting into some longer training walks. Today I did 7 miles, and felt kinda puny after, which leads to my questions.
1) Is it okay to wash down a shot block with watered down Gatorade, or should it be just plain water?
2)I've read about using salt packets in marathons. Do you try this in training, as you're told not to try anything new during an event? Do you take it before or at a certain mile? Would this be beneficial for the half also?
3)Is there a general rule of thumb as to when (like certain mile marks) to use gels or shot blocks, or is it just based on how you feel?
Thanks!

1. Most trainers say water so as not to give yourself too much electrolytes, but there are a few people around here that train with both.
2. Try it during training if you can. If the conditions are like this year, the salt would be beneficial for the half too. I'm gonna defer the when to someone else. Anybody know the answer to that one?
3. You need 50 to 100 calories every 30 to 40 min. Gu packets, 3 bloks or one pack of sports beans are 100 calories. Gu says one pack 15 min before then every 45 min. Personally, I do one Gu every 3 miles. That was 45 min for me back when I first started and I've just stuck with it. I do a lot of sweating so I figure if I'm getting some extra electrolytes, that's a good thing.

Guess you has a flight booked for the Marathon already.... Oh YAH!!! Remember I have to be in San Diego 2 days prior. WELL, I find out the extended the day on day later, so I can't leave until Thursday night or Friday morning. WELLLL.... I was able to find a three legged flight Home to SD, SD to WDW, WDW to Home for a decent price.... AND WORK PAYED FOR IT!!! AWESOME. Since I had to be gone for work, it was all covered... oh and because it was a decent price. And the best thing yet.... I am on the same flight home as my family. We all booked today to make it happen. I was tickled! I won't get my time at WDW and I have to take a red eye to get there, but I will be there at least as of now.
Helen - I so noticed that also. It takes me forever to feel good. When I ran my 5K on Saturday I was wondering when it would kick in.... after mile 2!

I would use some electrolyte capsule like Endrolytes http://www.e-caps.com/za/ECP?PAGE=PRODUCT&CAT=ELECT&PROD.ID=4037&OMI=10104,10082,10047&AMI=10104 vs just salt. They are more balanced. We used them for Goofy and Minnie. Usually 1-2 per hr depending on temps.
The general rule of thumb is " eat before hungry and drink before thirsty". Works well with distance running.

Dave- so I did accidentally tell my 20 year old secretary about the possible Aerosmith thing, but judging by her reaction of "... who?!" I think our secret is safe (and I feel about 112 years old).
Training is great today- it's a rest day! I'm attempting Hal Higdon's Intermediate I so tomorrow is 5, Sunday 8. I'm probably better suited to Novice, but wanted the double runs for Goofy- still, I won't beat myself up if I don't follow the Intermediate I exactly.
My DH's family is in town (well, an hour away) and we are supposed to see them this weekend. I think I convinced DH that we can leave Saturday morning to go spend the weekend with them AFTER I run a local 5k at 7:30 a.m. He was kind of put out about it, but then I told him we wouldn't have probably seen them until at least 10 a.m. anyway and he could either have me grumpy the whole weekend or reasonably pleased. What I haven't told him is that he and DD can load the baby up in the stroller to go see his peeps bright and early Sunday morning while I am doing my 8 miler. Let's face it- they're here to see the kids anyway! :rotfl:

When I was coming back to the US from Japan, where my Air Force father was stationed, there was a huge crowd of people out on the runway. They had broken through security and were massed around a plane. The people were there because some English band was visiting the USA for the first time. Hi, everyone! So glad to see Helen!! :wave2:
I finally have some training to report, though still not on a structured schedule. LTO/WTO and our kitchen reconstruction and back to school meetings, etc. just keep getting in the way! ;)
Besides doing my crunches & push-ups every day, I took a 25 minute core strengthening class last night. I LOVED it!!! I could do everythign the instructor asked of us, which was shocking to me and I am sure attributable to the crunches I've been doing. I also had 40 minutes (including warmup) on the TM before the class and got in 2.95 miles (burned 329 calories). I was doing mostly walk/jog at 4.2/5.0. I really need more miles rather than faster miles right now, but just cannot carve out the time to fit in the workouts.
Hoping to have the discipline to go to the gym tomorrow morning and get in an hour or so on the TM before the 7:45 muscle pump class. It's another busy weekend with a school dance for DS tonight, football game tomorrow wtih the MB and DS's Confirmation adn a family/friend late lunch afterwards. I count it all as xt.
Good luck to everyone on their LRs/LWs this weekend! :cool1:

Judy-Dave - You guys are killing me!!
Helen - Your run in Hong Kong might have felt like a stonker but..... at least you can say you've run in Hong Kong!!
Stacey - I always run with a half water half gatorade mix and take my Gu or Sports Beans with it. I tend to agree with Mel... I am not one of those ladies that "glisten"... I sweat worse than some men and feel the extra isn't gonna hurt me at ALL. Some people have stomachs that just can't handle that though. You might want to try it and see how you react. I also take either my gu or Sports Beans every 45 minutes, it seems to work well for me that way.
I just got off the "Dreadmill" again. I swear I have become dependent on that thing and seriously need to get over it. I can't wait for pop warner football to be over, and it doesn't end until the week before TOT! I'm afraid I'll be doing as much as an 18 mile LR on this treadmill before I can finally get outside on a Saturday!! I got my 13 in today. I don't remember where I got the idea from but since I started training this year I have been running my LR's a little differently. I run the first 2/3 at a LR pace about a minute slower than my planned Marathon Pace, then I run the last 1/3 at marathon pace. Today's run was awesome. I ran the first 8.66 in 1:24:50 (avg 9:47 mpm) then the last 4.33 in 37:46 (avg 8:47 mpm). Total time was 2:02:36 for an avg 9:27 mpm!! Now I am done for the week!! No more running again until Monday. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and that all of your LR's go well!!

Holy Moses!! I go away for 1, count 'em, 1 day, and look at what happened!! First, there is all this talk about Aerosmith. I honestly would be extremely surprised if they did play that weekend, but odder things have happened. I'm of the "I'll believe it when I see it" persuasion.
Funny Aerosmith story: I work with someone who, when he was getting married many years ago, wanted a band at their reception. They had one picked out but his future MIL nixed it. The band, you guessed it, was Aerosmith. Oh, what could have been.
Second--the locker room/bedroom aerobics talk. I expect Big Vic and WWDave to make comments like that, but JUDY??? I'm shocked, shocked at this!! Sweet, innocent Judy has been corrupted! What has the world come to? Sigh. Do I need to separate you children? Is a time out necessary? ;) I am so not trying to giggle here at work!!!
Thanks to everyone for sending pixiedust: for my foot. I think it was a muscle and today it's feeling quite a bit better. I've been icing and massaging it. It was just in such an odd place. And I haven't run since Wednesday. I'll try running 3 miles today and see how it goes. I'm up for a 10 miler on Sunday and it should be cool and comfortable in the morning.
Dona: oh how I miss that comic strip--"calvin ball!" Now I understand why you had to cut your run short a few days ago.
Mel: thanks for asking about the Higdon plan. It's going well. I'm on week 5 and am supposed to run 10 miles on Sunday. I am following the novice plan. Dinner tonight is hot dogs (OK, I'm allowed once in a while) but last night we had chicken marinated in a balsamic vinegar marinade with fresh green beans and couscous. Yummmmmm!
Jen117: you know the funny thing about that dinner-it was spaghetti! Ya boil water, put the pasta in and voila! The tricky part is microwaving the sauce. I couldn't believe all the questions!
TXAng: CONGRATULATIONS!!! You must let us know how everything goes and we will be thinking of you on marathon weekend!!

OK, so I confess that I haven't even lurked on the thread this week, let alone posted. I was in a course all week and work keeps rolling along so I just haven't had any time. I think things may settle down slightly next week, but truthfully the whole rest of the year will probably be crazy busy.
Anyhow...I have gotten some running in. Sunday was my 10K in Seattle where I set a PR of 57:56. I have been hoping to break 60:00 for years and years and it has finally happened! I felt terrific about the race.
Boot camp is officially over and I've moved on to yoga and fit ball. Fit ball is being taught by my old boot camp instructor Sheena. Unfortunately I got stuck in traffic on my way home on Monday so I missed the first class, but I did meet up with everyone at the end of class for a quick 20 min run. I think we went about 1.8 miles. Tuesday I ran 3 miles in I'm not sure what time... Wednesday was my first yoga class. Last night I hung out with an old friend visiting town so I didn't get a run in at all and tonight is officially a rest day because this weekend is my first back to back for Goofy training. Saturday my Short Long Run is 5 mi (although I'm meeting Sheena and I believe she is hoping to run about 6 or 7 mi). Sunday is my Long Long Run and I have 10 mi scheduled but I may scale back to 9 mi depending how far Sheena and I go Saturday.
As if I wasn't busy enough already I've been asked to join a curling league that starts up next month. That should be interesting! Have a great weekend everyone!

Dave...shame on you! :rolleyes1 Vic, you too! (not really for anything, but in my very short time here, I figure you are the two to josh with) :flower3:
Dana...great run!! I am hoping to start that strategy with my long runs....with the stronger finish segment...starting on Sunday! As long as I can keep my legs healthy (bad PF last couple of years), I am hoping to have a good running season.
happy weekend, y'all!

Judy - I have to admit, I thought you & Charlie were, umm, cross training! :rotfl2: Just goes to show you where my mind is - the gutter! :rotfl:
Ok, this Aerosmith thing has me crazy. If you guys got me all worked up, just to be let down. I'm gonna...we'll I don't know what 'I'm gonna.' But it will cost you dearly, I promise! ;)
I am heading out to do my two miles. Both of my boys are napping.
I better escape while I can!

Tricia: which 1/2 marathon are you going to train for? You'll do great, BTW!!
I am going to train for either the Marathon of the Palm Beaches 1/2 marathon on Dec 2 or wait until February for the A1A Marathon in Ft Lauderdale. I might end up not doing the Palm Beach one and do the Ft Lauderdale one just based on timing. :confused3 we shall see how training goes.
Today is a rest day for me but this morning I did some stretching. Tomorrow I am set to run 4 miles. Getting :scared1: about all these miles but I am sure I will be able to get through it - not in any record time though but even if I have to walk it I will get through it.
Good luck to all who have races/events this weekend and good luck to all in their training this weekend. Be safe!!

25:29 again - I am nothing if not consistent!
And you will never guess who came on during those 25 mins. on my shuffled mp3 player? Well, it was a little known group called AEROSMITH singing Eat The Rich!

Judy - Sorry, but I was on the same page w/Dave and Jeanne:)
Dana - Great job on your run.
Leana - congrats on your PR. I can only dream of 10mpm pace.
I didn't run the last two days (waiting for test results, which still aren't back) but couldn't stand it any longer. Went out and did 4 miles tonight. Weather was nice and cool and i felt great, not like I was 1/2 dead at the end. Total time was 53:38 (for a 13:24 mpm pace). Each mile was pretty consistent so i was pleased.
I've got a month until the Nike 1/2 in SF, then when I get back, I'll move into the Goofy training with the b2b long runs.
I got an e-mail from Nike, telling about the on-course entertainment for the 1/2 & full. Let me tell ya, I can't wait to get to mile 11. It's the Ghirardelli chocolate mile (yum!)
Good luck to all racers this weekend. For anyone doing the Philly Distance Run on Sunday, I'll be working at the last music stage (mile 13) just before you get to the Art Museum finish line. I'll have my WISH visor on. Give me a wave if you see me!

Re: Aerosmith playing at the ToT party...taking into account what Aerosmith's personal reservation price is (:) ) for playing any gig, do you REALLY think they will play this one? Come on, who are we fooling?
Terri: I want to hear more about the SF 1/2 marathon. Any race that runs by Ghiradelli is my kinda race. Do they hand out chocolate at that water stop? Not to mention that SF is my favorite city...ever run the Bay to Breakers? I've always wanted to run that but never have.
Consistent Kristi1357: you go girl!
Shame, shame, shame on all of you who are teasing poor, innocent, little Judy!! It's just not fair. Pick on someone your own size! Oh dear, now I've got a case of the giggles!!!! :rotfl2:
Much good luck to all those racing this weekend! Let us know how it goes!

Martha - according to the e-mail I got this is what's along the course:
coat check at mile 2.5 - Drop off running jacket and pick up at the end
oxygen bar at mile 6.8 (I may need this ;) )
Luna Moons electrolyte energy chews and Luna Bars @ mile 9
Jamba Juice banana station at mile 10.7
Ghiardelli Chocolate station at 11.9 (I believe they do hand out chocolate!)
Pedicare station at 13.4
Most of these stations are offered again later in the marathon course also.
Aid stations are every 2 miles and there will also be Gatorade Endurance Formula.
I'll give you more 1st hand info after the race.

Ok, how come I have a reputation now?:sad2: That darn Vic and mister wicked PatsFan Bill set me up.
We have some unusual refreshment stops for our local races here in Southern Ky.
Last month I did a race in Franklin Ky and the after race goodies was McDonalds Sasuage Biscuits and orange juice.
Our bigest race is the 10K classic in Oct, the after race goodie bag usually has a PeanutButter and jelly sandwich, a banana, a moon pie and a bag of chips. And all the Royal Crown Cola you can drink.
The half marathon is sponsored by the Ky Fried Chicken so yep you guessed it a chicken dinner box.
We do have a large bakery factory that makes all the store brand cookies and stuff so you usually get a cake or a pie if you place in the race.
One race in Auburn has a pig for the winning male and female runners.
But I can't complain because for a small town area we have a nice race about twice a month within an hours drive. One of these days I have to make the 5K in Morgantown, they have catfish for the after race eats.
Ok Judy here is your next question: In which parks can you get a turkey leg?
Have a wonderful evening y'all.

Where in Epcot can you get a turkey leg? I know in MK they are in the Space area. Where in Animal Kingdom might you find one and of course the MGM turkey leg sales is on the road going to ToT.

You can get a Turkey Leg in AK somewhere by the Lion King show I think. I know DH got one somewhere around there, because I was making fun of him.
So, got all ready last night for a local 5k this morning. Thought 7:30 a.m. seemed a little excessive, but only when I arrived to sign up and saw NO cars did I realize it was 7:30 P.M.!! I've never been anywhere 12 hours early.:rotfl: Came home to run and my iPod froze. Yes, I could have run without it, but between no race and no iPod, I was a little pushed.
Now we have to go out of town to visit DH's family (AGAIN). DH is already freaking out about how we just have to get there (why do you have to spend 48 hours with relatives? why isn't lunch and a walk on the beach enough?!) so I don't think I'm going to get a run in today. I'm going to do my LR tomorrow and move today's to my rest day on Monday.
I was all about color coding my calendar- you know, GREEN for completed workouts so I can wax in the glow...I have no idea how to color code this weekend! (Hey- I tried, so I don't think I should have to face red ink- maybe purple?!) I'm getting nervous about my family understanding the time committment- it's all fine and good when I can go during work hours and it doesn't have any effect on them, but the weekends are starting off badly... :sad2: ok, happy thoughts, happy thoughts...
Dave- I got my maps too-- they are very cool. I was thinking about getting some inexpensive frames and putting them in my little boy's room.

Terri: pedicare station? Do they give foot massage? Oh I can't wait to hear your post-race analysis. Have a Ghiradelli dark chocolate square for me...and a mint one, too! When is that race?
Rainy here this morning and today is a rest day (finally) for me. DH is going out between the storms to get in a short run. I am scheduled to run 10 miles tomorrow and it's supposed to be picture perfect weather! Whee!!
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

Good morning team.
Sorry I have been MIA again, my computer time this week has beenchanging a bunch of reservations for my March break cruise....we decided to change ships and ports so lots of cancellatons and rebooks.
Hope everyone is doing great with there training.
Quick training update for me....
Last night I did my last LW before my 1/2 on Sept 30th 20K in 3:01:41. I am OK with that time as I think the atmoshere around me will make me go a little quicker. I am OK even on time for Disney's 1/2 so life is good. Little achy this morning but nothing the hottub won't fix.

Yea baby!
It was chilly this morning, especially after the intense heat, could that have been just a week ago? A week ago it was over 100 degrees and today it's 50 with wind. I dressed in a long sleeve under armor shirt with a Nike short sleeve shirt over it and unlined new balance running pants, addidis socks and Mizuno shoes. I guess you can't say I'm brand loyal. I could ave used gloves. Kim in Canada is probably thinking WUSS!.
I had a nice walk, first mile 13:43 to warm up then 2 miles at just under 12 min pace. I finally warmed up about 2 miles and then it felt very pleasent.
Go after it today Teampirate:

Well I got up this morning and my head and neck were aching a bit but I knew I had to get out there and get my run/walk in. I took some ibuprofen and and grabbed a towel and a water and took off. I must admit I did WAY more walking then running but I got out there and ended up doing 4.2 miles. On the way home I stopped at 7-11 to get creamer for my coffee and the whole thing took me 1 hour so 14.30 per mile but that includes the stop at the store.
Dave - I will have to order maps again - I ordered them once when they first came out - I have to check how often you can get them because I would really like to have special ones for this TOT trip.

While we are on the subject of free things.
When Erica and I were gift shopping at Downtown Disney, one of the cashiers gave us a 25% discount for using the Disney (Chase) Visa to pay. None of the others did and since this was the last time we checked out I didn't ask for it from any of the other cashiers. I was just glad Erica was done shopping.
Does anyone know about discounts in the gift shops? We fit most catagories, retired military, senior citizens, annual pass holders, mentally challanged, ect....
Any pennies saved when Erica is on shopping frenzy would be great.

In addition to those locales mentioned above (and the turkey leg cart by Country Bear Jamboree in MK), don't forget the Toluca Turkey Leg Co. by Rock 'n Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror at MGM.

Just jumping in real quick to say I did my 8 miles in 1:54:00 this morning. Around 700 calories burned. No running. My hip was bothering me and I am exhausted, so just getting up at 5:30 and getting to the gym at the start of a busy weekend seems miraculous!

At the World of Disney shop, if you spend enough (either 25 or 50 dollars) and use your Chase Disney Visa, you will get a 10% discount. At least that is what they had as a promotion for quite a while. None of the other stores in Downtown Disney or the parks seem to do this and I ask at all of them.

Ah well, training didn't happen today.:rolleyes1 We "accidentally" wound up at MK for the passholder preview of the Haunted Mansion. We even took Timmy on it and got a few stares from others but he behaved perfectly and was totally quiet, much better than alot of the other kids on it. Since I had to do the drive, I figured that I should sleep in the morning instead of the afternoon on the way back. It was fun but way way way too hot. We need some of that 50 degree weather that WWDave seems to be hogging right now. We did meet up with Mel and family and had a nice talk. We all agree that the changes are good improvements on the ride. I did get some walking in and a little hill work pushing the stroller around everywhere.
This week hasn't been good for training but next week is a whole new start and perhaps the rest will be good. That's my story and if I repeat it enough it will come true. Speaking of that (it was the topic last week), if you are able to get the comic strip Frazz, it is fairly cute and deals with training for races/triathelons. Some of the things are definately familiar.
I see that Judy is hiding today. Hopefully the queen didn't get chased into hiding for a while. Although if she is hiding with Charlie then perhaps it can be explained. :lmao: Just be careful, she can get on a horse and chase you down without much effort.
Hope everyone has a good week.
