Photo Comp - should it stay, or should it go?

Firstly a huge thank you to Tony and Theresa for caretaking the competition during my recent sojourn to WDW. :hug:

Now, even accounting for the fact that peops have been off on their summer hols and have had the kids home from school, there has been a noticable cooling of interest in the competition. Should we keep it and, if so, is there anyone out there who would like to take it on? It's quite a big commitment, so maybe monthly hosts would be the way to take it forward. Or should we acknowledge that it was fun while it lasted, but it's time to consign it to room 101?

We now appreciate what a task this is.:scared: and we only had to run it for a few weeks! Hats off to you and Matt.

I think lots of people may have taken picture on their hols this year with the comp. in mind so it would be a shame to drop it now.

how about having it for one week every month?

We could rotate the organiser on a monthly basis and still keep it as a weekly comp.

How about a poll on it?

anyone else have any ideas?

Once a month sounds like a great idea. I don't enter more often because I don't have many digital photos and the scanned ones always look a bit sad next to the digital. (well that's my excuse for being a lousy photographer!).
It would be a shame to drop it - I love looking at other people's photos!

I do find it time consuming to vote though (I usually copy and paste the ones I like into a temporary word document before making my final decision of points) if there's a better way please let me know.

I agree. Even though I never get round to voting, (I think I did once), and have never entered, I still like looking at everyone elses pictures.

Once a month sounds achievable, even for me! I promise I'll vote and enter next time.

First a big thanks to Deb who runs this, I can imagine how much time it takes, and Im sure I speak for all who participate in saying how much we appricate it Debs,:goodvibes

Ok here are my thoughts, I would hate to see it go, as I love the photo comp, I dont always enter but I always vote. Its lovely to see everybodys pictures.

Maybe a thought would be to change the subjects not only for photos taken in Disney/Florida etc but to other subjects and locations from anywhere on occasions, such as other holidays, favorite family photos , weddings, birthdays etc as well of course Disney and Holidays. This would also allow members who may not have up to date photos from Florida to join in.

Once a month could be another idea as you have said.

Also we could have a rota of volenteers, much like the quiz, who could host the photo comp on a monthly basis. I would be very happy to help out.

I have really enjoyed the photo quiz and would hate to see the end of it. I have loved looking at other people's photos and have found a lot of inspiration from it - in fact I was inspired to invest in a decent camera after seeing some of the fantastic photos some people have taken. I think it should stay, and perhaps other topics be included from time to time as suggested by Florida Sun. I would be happy to help with it if required, but I am not very good with computers. Thanks to Deb (and Tony) for organising the quiz up to now, it must take a lot of effort and it is much appreciated!

I've only recently found and started to join in with the photo quiz but it is a lot of fun and it's great seeing everyone's photos. I would hate to see it go altogether. Perhaps doing it less frequently - say once a month - is the way forward. Many thanks to Debs for running it.

maybe if it was done on a Poll vote there won't be as much work involed like the way it is done on the photography board

I wonder if there would be more active particpation if the competition element was taken out of it and it became a 'post your favourite photo' on a weekly topic. I try to find an entry for the weeks when I'm around to spend the time voting and posting, but I don't always make the effort if I know my pics for the topic aren't that great!

I'd still like to see the topics based on WDW / Orlando / Florida - that's just my 2c :)

Poll voting would be good, different subjects will give a chance for people (like me) who havn't yet been to WDW to get involved.

Yes, i agree also, although i don't participate myself (coz i don't know how to put photos on;) ) i always try to vote whenever i can because i love to look at everyones piccies :)

Like others, I too like looking at the photos, have been unable to join in as we didn't have digital photos of our DLPR holiday and have yet to go to WDW! A monthly comp may be the best compromise and a poll vote is a good idea too.

I think this sounds like a great idea - perhaps if it were just a chance to post two photo's each week / once a month on a particular topic and not a competition it might get more people posting and would be less work for who ever was hosting it that week / month.

I also think the theme should stay Florida

I too love the photo comp and a big thanks for Deb and Tony and Theresa (in Deb's absence) for organising it.

I think a monthly/fortnightly competition/topic is a great idea - I don't mind whether the competition aspect stays or goes - I just like looking at everyone's photographs. A poll would be a great solution in that no-one needs to tot up scores each time.

But I think primarily it should remain all things Disney

I've only just found the competition as I'm still a bit new to all this. I think its fantastic and thanks go out to all who have hosted it.

It would be a great shame to see it go but I think a monthly comp with a poll vote would be a good idea.

(And it was thanks to the competition that I found out how to post pictures!!)

I've loved looking at everyone photos and although I didn't enter too much (not enough pics and trips!) I think its been a fun thing to have. I agree with what everyone is saying, it would be nice if it stayed maybe once a fortnight or month with a poll vote would be great.

I used to enter the Photo Comp on the Photography Forum. I had some issues with the poll voting system and that was possibly what prompted me to start our own competition. I'm guessing, though, that the public voting system we have here might put some off.

Whilst my reservations over poll voting remain, it is a much more simple solution, so I'm going to give that a go for a few weeks and see how it works out. I think we'll need to limit to one entry per week, per poster.

I'm also going to drop the separate threads for Entries and Discussion. If it gets untidy, we can re-visit.

Thanks for your input. We'll have another brainstorming session in a couple of weeks :thumbsup2 .

Well, I'd like to think that people will take the time to do it, especially as it will be both easier and anonymous, but there's no way to police it, so it'll no longer be an entry requirement. :goodvibes
