What are the differences in these two categories?

Location, Location, Location
Category 8 & 9 The Category 8 and 9 rooms are considered deluxe outside staterooms (meaning they have a large porthole window.) The category 9 staterooms located on deck 1 have two smaller porthole windows. At 214 sq. ft., these staterooms sleep 3 (with some sleeping 4) and they are among the first categories to book on the ship, as the price on these staterooms is very competitive. Each room contains one queen bed (or two twin beds) a single convertible sofa, and a split-bathroom design. Category 8 staterooms are located on decks 5,6 and 7. Category 9 staterooms are on decks 1 & 2.

Just wanted to add that the category 9 staterooms on Deck 2 (where I was last year and where I'll be again next month :) ) do not have the two small windows, but rather one large window. If you can live without a balcony, I've found that Deck 2 is a great place to be .... just one deck down to get off the ship for excursions and just one deck up, or two at the most, to get to the restaurants :)

Category 9 cabins on Deck 2 are exactly the same as Category 8 cabins. Category 9 cabins on Deck 1 have the 2 smaller windows. The only other difference is that Cat. 9s are cheaper than Cat. 8s. We would rather have the $$$ to spend onboard than a cabin a few decks higher.
We have done 4 DCL cruises and have sailed on Decks 2, 5, 6 and 7. Deck 2 is our absolutely favorite place to be and we'll be there again on our upcoming Magic back-to-back.
