View Full Version : Wish List for Nice Touches in NEW DVC Villas

I am wondering what you think would be a nice touch for DVC to consider particularly as they build new DVC's, including AKV, CRV and GCV. It doesn't have to be expensive grandiose changes but something that would make your stay more comfortable. They have already improved the sofabeds which would have been one of my wishes.
Now my #1 is nicer, more comfortable balcony chairs more in line with what they have in the deluxe resorts.
8/16/2009 - UPDATED this Sept 2007 thread to consolidate list and count how many wishes are complete - see thread #28

I think the Master Bedroom closet should lock with an encoded KTTW.
The safe is in there and members could store larger items in there and at least have 1 safe place in the Villa to keep valuables.
Vacation Homes have lockable pantries and closets and I think this would be a great addition to DVC.

Hi, WOW great ideas!! Those chairs really are not comfortable and it would be great for the closet to lock, we travel with multiple laptops! I would like to see pillow top mattresses in the Master Bedroom. Joan

love the lockable master closet idea! I can barely fit my wallet in the "safe" they provide, much less laptops, camera's, etc...
I'll probably go off-topic here but some other ideas...
1. design a space somewhere for the crib to fit. We can't sleep with our children in the bedroom due to mom's medical condition (she needs her sleep) so usually have him/her in the bathroom or the foyer, etc.. (we'll be past this phase in 6 months, but future parents might need it).
2. Fix the motion detecting a/c heat issue.
3. Bring back the original mickey soap/shampoo.
4. Bean bag's for the kids on the floor.
5. At check-in if the room isn't ready have them send us a text message when our room is ready instead of having to keep calling them.
6. Plastic annual passes instead of the paper.... I've "washed" them too many times!
7. double strollers with some type of divider between the seats... my 4 year old and 2 year old never sleep at the same time. Love to have one snoozing without falling into the other.
8. Mobile access to reservations/wait times at disney restaurants... I'm in the park... want to go to dinner.. not sure what has seats... why can't i use my pda/phone to lookup and save the walk/drive?
9. Wireless internet access in the rooms. Let me pay for a login/pw vs. using the cord.

5. someone say that if you give them your cell phone number they will call you when the room is ready.
8. just call the dinning number - I have one of the toll free numbers in my cell phone. then just ask them what is available at what ever park you are at.

Those are great ideas! My kids would love the bean bags and the divided strollers would also keep the "he's touching me!" debates down.
I'm all for them!

the Fold out chairs for the fifth person in all 1 bdrms.
Wireless Ride times to check on you PDA or Cell . I have a sight but it's only as good as it's memebers update it.Haveing the park do it would not be that big of a deal for all the ones that run by computer. This may stop people from showing up I guess if they know all the waits are long.
But love the Locked Closet.
We already do the Calling for last minute Dining and have done so for a while . Even when they tell you no walk-ups at the place ,you have a chance by calling.

Free wireless internet (which would be cheaper than 99% of what will be suggested in this thread I bet).

I would also like wireless internet-paying $10.99 to spend 15 minutes checking email in the evenings is just not realistic. Having free wireless access is NOT going to keep everyone sitting in the rooms all day surfing the net. I can go a while without checking, but more than one of my DVC buddies has their own business and they really need to check daily. The phone just doesn't cut it, because there are other things they have to do. I think WDW should worry more about those folks going offsite to find that access and spending money eating or buying stuff at those other places.
Having a lockable closet would be MOST EXCELLENT. Have a keypad so the guests can set their own password. When I worked at target we had these small lockers that had a combo that each worker reset to use it. Very easy.

#1 fix motion detector A/C issue
#2 Safes that are larger and read a credit card to lock and unlock (similar to cruise ships). Hate the key, too easy to lose!

OKW already has this with the laundry room that doubles as a great crib room!

6. Plastic annual passes instead of the paper.... I've "washed" them too many times! This is not DVC specific, and I like the Tyvek ones...much more durable than paper OR plastic. I don't want them to change.
7. double strollers with some type of divider between the seats... my 4 year old and 2 year old never sleep at the same time. Love to have one snoozing without falling into the other.I didn't know DVC offered strollers
8. Mobile access to reservations/wait times at disney restaurants... I'm in the park... want to go to dinner.. not sure what has seats... why can't i use my pda/phone to lookup and save the walk/drive?Doubt this would ever be DVC specific either...Nor should it be.
9. Wireless internet access in the rooms. Let me pay for a login/pw vs. using the cord.
Some of your items were not DVC specific, but problably good ideas for WDW in general.

ok, a couple more random thoughts...
10. luggage cart(s) at SSR. (similar to what Vero Beach has).
11. Rent or offer full size cribs instead of only pack and plays. I know 3rd party companies offer - but would be easier thru Disney.
12. Trundle beds for toddlers. There is space under the queen's for a pull out trundle bed. They could limit it to crib size mattresses if they're worried about room occupancy. But this would be great for the young kids vs. worrying about bed rails, etc..
(can you tell i have a 2 year old and a 4 year old?!)
13. Booster cushion for the bench at the table. (easier for the "tweens").

Yes, I can tell you have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. All good ideas. I wonder if you can get the booster seat or a high chair if you call housekeeping and ask for it. I think a high chair or booster seat is a necessity with the little ones.

Interesting! I don't see the FPs ever happening, though.
As others have said, I love the locking closet, texting when the room is ready, fitted sheets or ones that fit (what is that about anyway???Anyone know?) and getting rid of the motion sensor issue.

High Chairs are always available at all resorts upon request. Just let them know at front desk or call mousekeeping and they will bring you one. Been doing that since DS10 was little. Just requested one at the cabins in FW just a couple of weeks ago for DD1.

I dug up this old thread to see what items from our wish list made it into BLT. I created a consolidated list from the earlier posts. Perhaps anyone who has been to BLT can let us know if any of these unknowns can be moved up to the completed list. Some are not DVC related and may never move up but they are on the list just in case. I'm happy with the five that I know are complete!
Completed:
1. Better porch chairs
2. Free Internet Access in both living room and bedroom
3. High Chairs in every unit (some asked for High chairs and some for boosters but from what I understand there are high chairs now)
4. The Fold out chairs for the fifth person in all 1 bdrms.
5. Flat panel HD TV's
6. Better sofa beds.
7. Texting when room is ready.
8. Ihome clock radios are a great addition
9. More occupancy in the 1BR units at the newer villas.
Unknowns: Anyone know if they have any of these items? Hope I didn't miss anything.
1. DVD player in both living room & bedroom
2. A dustbuster to get up little messes quickly
3. Get better at making rooms available when they are supposed to be!!!
4. Lockable place for a laptops or locking closets
5. Trundle beds for toddlers maybe under queen or king bed and limit size to crib mattress if room occupancy is a a concern.
6. luggage cart(s) at SSR. (similar to what Vero Beach has).
7 Rent or offer full size cribs instead of only pack and plays. I know 3rd party companies offer - but would be easier thru Disney.
8. texting when room is ready - DONE added to Complete List - (thanks rmonty02)
9. Fitted sheets
10. Balcony loungers
11. Towel Rings next to each bathroom sink for hand towels
12. Founder members names on the pavers to the MK from CRV.
13. Back entrance to MK. ( not likely)
14. Quiet pool on the roof. - (there is a pool. Does this satisfy?)
15. Telescopes to view into MK.
16. 3 FP's per day.
17. Fix AC motion Issue
18. Design space for crib to fit
19. Plastic AP instead of paper for durability.
20 Double stroller with divider between them
21. Mobile access to restaurants for wait times
22. Bring back the original mickey soap/shampoo.
23, Bean bag's for the kids on the floor.
24. Duvets
25 Wireless Ride Times
26. #2 Safes that are larger and read a credit card to lock and unlock (similar to cruise ships). Hate the key, too easy to lose!
27. A reasonable fee for housekeeping (like per week). I love the idea of DVC but honestly this is the one thing that puts me off. Maybe I am lazy but I don't want to be cleaning up after my fairly messy family on my trip.
28. Late dining reservations available at certain restaurants for DVC members only.
29. More occupancy in the 1 bed. There are a lot of families of 5 (not mine, we are a family of 4) that can't stretch to the (double the points of the 1 bed) 2beds. (older DVC units)
30. Don't know if this is already the case but special rates on ticketed events such as MVMCP and others.
31. More Club Level Options....AKV Jambo Club Level is wonderful.

This is hilarious b/c as I started reading this thread and got to the "texting when your room is ready" I thought, I just read (today) that they did this. Then I noticed this thread was originally from 2007! Two years later...better late than never.:rotfl:
8. texting when room is ready
From member site:
"Mobile Room Ready Notification Service debuts
The new Mobile Room Ready Notification Service lets Members and Guests who arrive prior to their select DisneylandŽ, Walt Disney WorldŽ or Disney Vacation Club Resort hotel check-in time to simplify their arrival by alerting them through their cell/mobile phone when their room is available.
To utilize the service, simply provide your cell/mobile phone number upon check-in and request a return-notification preference.
When your room is ready, a text message or automated call will alert you to your room number."

LOVE the idea of a closet that locks!
When I learned the 1BR units at BLT and AK had a sleeper chair I immediately thought, why can't they just ADD them to existing 1BR DVC units????:confused3
We stayed at deluxe resorts exclusively before becoming DVC members, and the plastic chairs & tables for the balconies and patios bug me! I have heard the renovated BWV have wrought iron chairs, I will check it out next week.
Also, I would like 2 bathroom sinks and a magnification mirror.

For those with IPhones, there is a ride time application (I think there's actually more than one). Also, there's an application called TripIt (TripIt.com). You can enter airline, hotel and restaurant info(along with other things, like tours). It's one of my favorite applications. Right now I'm tracking 3 trips with 8 different people. You give access to trips to certain people and they can enter their travel arrangements so you can see them along with your own.

5. At check-in if the room isn't ready have them send us a text message when our room is ready instead of having to keep calling them.
Haven't read all the responses, but they do this now. We went back in the middle of July. As I was checking in, I overheard the CM checkign in the man next to me. His room wasn't ready so the CM took his cell phone number to give hima call when it was. He then asked if he wanted a phone call or a text message delivered to his phone.
Our room was ready, but not in the section we wanted. I asked if anything in Grandstand was available, so we had to wait. Our CM gave us a card with our new room number as a PIN to call and check to see iif it was ready. We wandered over to DTD for a few and then walked back to SSR and checked back at the front desk. It was around 2 and our requested room was ready.
