Our TA called this week to inform us that we are now in room #8532 for the Ship of Thieves in May 2008. Very excited since we are a family of 5 and will need the extra space. We were originally in a Cat 4 and were on the waitlist for any suite. Yes, we'd take a Cat 2 or 1 if they call. Fingers crossed.

I know they'll book excursions, get dvd's, etc... what else do they do for you? Latte's in the morning? :) TIA

Congrats on scoring a mid-ship cat 3! :cool1:

I'll post a link to this question on our meets thread (are you scared to come over there.....it's always hopping I know). We have several experienced Concierge level cruisers and they can answer your questions. I don't have any experience with it YET.....see siggie....but I'm pretty sure there are no lattes ;)

upon boarding you'll be invited to a concierge meet where you can make excursion reservations, Palo res etc. They will stop by in the afternoon with a treat, we got things like personalized coloring books, arcade cards, bag of popcorn with an invite to a movie, etc.

We were in 8562 for the 8/12 Wonder sailing. We missed the perks by just a few doors! Enjoy the trip!

Latte's in the morning is probably the exception, but, forget the concierge service - you scored a mid-ship cat 3 for a 15 day cruise!!!!!!

We stayed in 8032 on the Wonder and LOVED the layout. Much better than the other Cat 3s. And gotta love the triple wide verandah!!!! Oh yeah!!!!

Only downside is we did hear a lot of noise from deck 9. I knew that risk and packed a white noise maker.

we got daily treats. . .$60 in arcade cards, dvd's and popcorn in room, daily visits--how ya doin, anything we can do, personal weather updates etc.

my dh forgot black socks for formal night--they got him a pair from the gift shop and ran them to our room. . .

just the little extras would make it hard to go back to cat4-12.

WOW! YOU S C O R E D! Big Time! I loved that stateroom!

I agree, besides the perks, just being in that double wide room with verandah is heaven! Enjoy!

Although, I do agree with the above poster, it is noisy! You can hear every child running across the deck. Every chair being dragged, very late and very early in the morning. I thought we were under the ping pong table. That's what it sounded like. That was THE only negative. My kids slept through it, we brought ear plugs.

Enjoy, you will love it! :cloud9:

Yup, we heard all that same noise. Funny enough - I had to get up at night to go to the bathroom and heard the scraping of the deck chairs and knew instantly it had to be 5:00-5:30am without even looking at the clock.

I swear the walls squeak in 8032 on the Wonder. DD heard the same thing. We had a bit of unsettled seas and the ship was rocking a bit the first two nights and I could hear a lot of creaking at night. Not as loud as the deck 9 noise.

Last Oct. we were in 8532 on the Wonder and the walls sqeaked in that suite as well. Even with the Deck 9 noises we absolutely loved the layout of the Midship Cat. 3.

Like a previous poster stated it is hard to go back to a lower Cat. after being in a Suite. My DD and I had a Cat. 9 for the August TA repo and even though we had plenty of room for the two of us, I still missed the "suite life".
We will be back in a Midship Cat. 3 (8532) in December on the Magic and I am so looking forward to it.:goodvibes

If our visit to a Category 3 after a Cat 6 is any indication, you won't be completley happy again! We've since booked a Cat 3 for December '07, and just upgraded our Cat 7 (slumming) to a Cat 3 for September '08.

And if Walt/Roy becomes available.....pixiedust:

We were in 8534 on the Wonder, and our walls creaked too. We called concierge, and they sent up carpenters to caulk the moulding, so keep that in mind if the creaking gets too loud. If you have rough seas, it can bang about as well. We got no sleep the first night because of it. It's pretty, but can sure be loud!

Good Luck guys and congrats on the upgrade. Concierge are also your point of contact for all the other departments. You don't have to call maintenance if you have a squeek---call the concierge and let them arrange to have them fix it. You need advice on the island---ask the concierge. We often left messages on their machine to request waters, sodas (Cat 1) etc. We had the dolphin excursion booked once when it was moved for the hurricane. We were on board the week before it was moved back and we were hoping it would have been our date --but they wanted to give the attraction time to acclimate. Anyway, the concierge staff arranged for a full refund for us. They dealt with shore excursion--not us. There were enough people on the waiting list to take the tickets. In the past, we have had our safe malfunction, our lights burned out in the closet and requested the upper bunk for one night as a treat for the girls---all directed through the concierge.

I just really wish they would have a hammock section for the suites reserved ahead of time for maybe an hour to allow time to get there and set up. Oh yeah---the porters will also pay extra attention to you getting off. And it is soooo worth getting a porter. I think they realize the bigger cabins often have more luggage because they can store more luggage. LOL They are whisked through the security line to allow them to get back to earn more tips.

Here is what we experienced....

We did have pop and water in our cat. 3 suite every day (Nov./06) plus a treat every day, canapes, chocolate covered strawberries, selection of desserts, fresh fruit etc.

Boarding first was the best, separate roped off waiting area as well. Also, upon boarding you go to diversions for a meet and greet with snacks and bev. with the concierges. There you can book anything you'd like pretty much. They have a separate Palo inventory so you can change/add any reservations you'd like there or at the spa and on excursions.

There is also a nice reception for concierge guests.

They came to our suite every day and were amazing. When we didn't have autograph books for the characters breakfast, they located the store manager (which was closed that early) and brought 2 to the dining room for us. They booked transfers to MCO for us, got the autograph of a princess we missed, and even "magic"ally made the noise on deck 9 stop at night. There was a lot of chair dragging at night as the crew set up for the next day. I didn't say anything for 4 nights. By then I was exhausted and spoke up.

Room service from all restaurants plus only concierge guests can order breakfast from room service on disembarkation day.

DVD/VCR in suite with library of movies available.

Big selection H20 Spa products

Robes for the whole family

No need to line up at guest services for excursions or anything else. They take care of everything and deliver tickets to your room

Lithograph given to you on the last day.

The suites are amazing. The service is beyond anything I've ever experienced. I miss Sandie and Arnaldo. They made us feel like royalty.

That's just off the top of my head.

We're hooked on concierge!

Are the H2O products different in a concierge room vs a regular cabin? My inlaws just got home from a cat. 3 room, and gave me big 2.7 oz H2O products from their room, (i love that stuff!!) and i remember last time, they brought back smaller containers of different colored H2O stuff... So, do you get more stuff and larger size in the concierge room?

As are we... We did Cat 3 our first, doing Cat 2 October 2007. Love the service, love the room.

We have a land Conceirge as well... so all of our palo, excursions etc, she booked for us. Any questions, we just email her or call her personal number. We also had concierge walk us down when we were leaving the ship in port, they walk you to the front of the line, no waits.

We just got back from 8032 midship and we loved the suite. but our concierge team stunk. No little gifts for the kids or us . Upon arrival there was a fruit basket but they had cut the strawberries and kiwis up already. nothing grosser that cut up fruit drippings on your uncut fruit. Anyway don't count on concierge for the perks or their helfulness. We got most of our great service from our room steward leo who was transferring to the magic at the end of this 4 day trip. we loved him. He showed the kids how to make towel animals and was always asking if we needed anything. Book the midship for the space and the great room not concierge services.

Were you on the 3-night? I was on Aug 23rd in 8032. Leo was great but sadly I didn't meet him until very late on the last night.

I will admit that I got much, much less goodies from concierge on the 3 night cruise vs. 4 night/7 night. The only thing we got was the fruit plate (our fruit was not cut up) on the first day and chocolate covered strawberries on the second night. We did not receive any more food on the third night but we had plenty of strawberries left over. On the third night we got the lithograph.

Yes, concierge services was sparse on the 3-night. We were disappointed with that. On our 7 night cruise last year we got arcade cards, popcorn, buttons and plenty of food.

I'm guessing it might be an issue with the 3-night cruise. We had an amazing concierge team on our 4-night cruise two years ago. The best ever. I don't remember exactly what goodies we got but I remember not being disappointed.

I think the concierge team on the Wonder are relatively new to their positions and are still learning the ropes.

I thought the walls in 8032 creaked at night. Heard the typical deck 9 noise at 5:00am (I think it was the ping pong tables being moved) but was surprised to hear the walls creaking all night long.

I am glad someone said how poor the conceirge services has gotten. We have been on the Magic several times. We were on last month and they friendly but not helpful. They gave us bad or wrong information several times. They should deal with the other departments for you but every time I complained about something, they just had that department contact me directly. By the end of the cruise it was just annoying (no food goodies really except the first night of the 12 nights).

When we were in a cat 3 last September, the way the room service worked was, we were allowed to order from whatever restaurant we were schedule for that night, not from any restaurant on any night. So, if we were scheduled for Animator's that night, we could order only from their menu that night.

I think Cat 1 and 2 can order from any restaurant, any menu, any night.

We have had very good and very bad concierge service. It seems to depend on who the team is. We have a Cat 3 for a 4 night in Dec and hope the concierge team is improved by then. Do they have any kind on concierge reception on the 4 night, like they do on the 7?

What type of wrong info did you receive from them? Disney should have a lounge like RC does, so you have access to them rather than leaving a message. Also then if you want the snacks or drinks you can get them when available. RC had games and DVDs there for you to take back--it reminded me of what some hotels have.

If you email Disney with your reservation number etc, they will have concierge respond back to you and they then give you all the info to contact them directly next time.

When we got to a port, we just told our concierge we wanted to leave the ship at blah blah blah time and they came and got us and took us down and we didn't wait in the line to get off the ship. We didn't do this on the last day but we did get a baggage guy and walked through customs that way... you just need to have one person walk over by the door and grab the guy when he comes in and bring him to your party and bags. tipped a couple bucks a bag and out the door we went.

Yes, there is a concierge reception on the Wonder. Sadly, on the 3-night it was the same time as the castaway club reception. I went to the CC reception and the rest of the family went to the concierge reception.

I had more fun at the CC reception even though I know the food is better at the concierge reception.

I think its safe to assume that the team that is aboard the Wonder right now will be on break by December. Yeah, I wasn't overly impressed by the concierge team I had last month.

We have a midship Cat 3 booked on the Magic, Suite 8534. The posts about the noise level have me kind of worried. Is it really that bad? When you say a white noise machine, what did you bring? Would a small fan work? How bad is it really?

Thanks

Yes it was the Magic. No it wasn't Sandie and Arnaldo.

Someone else asked what type of wrong information. For example they gave us the wrong day for Tea with Alice so we missed out. They were asked several times to help us get a time for the Mickey breakfast (because we had a conflict with our normal time). They said no problem. Told us a time that was 1/2 hour after it started and we still didn't have a table. The "special tendering" invovled us walking the entire length of the ship TWICE as we kept missing a tender even though they claimed they called ahead. I could go on and on. The above to me seemed basic requests that we had never had any trouble with before. I won't even tell you how our "special" requests turned out.

Out of curiousity, did you complain and/or report your experiences? I ask because we've cruised DCL concierge a couple of times with another for Christmas (yes, we're spoiled by the suite and ruined forever) - and while I wouldn't say the concierge team was camping outside of our door begging to find ways to assist us, they were responsive to our requests and available when we needed them. If I had experienced what you did, I'd be thoroughly irritated! I would think that they don't get too many complaints about Concierge, so hopefully they take them very seriously when they do!

Yes we gave feedback. We have been before so it was that much more disappointing. They tried a new pre-cruise conceirge which turned out to be even worse and more stressful (trying to get things worked before). The truth is DCL can fill the suites 20 times over they are so popular so I look at like the other folks - we like the bigger room and if we get more than that great. We had fun I just wouldn't expect to have great service. I heard the new ships have more suites and are set up with a special area. If we can book on that we'll try again. NCL for me next summer though. :-) I have done the Mexico route last time DCL was in LA.

We had rufaro (she ws o.k. ) and some other guy (he was useless) We asked him for a chess board and that was impossible for him to get we asked her and in ten minutes it was at our door. we asked him to change our dinner seating at 7 a.m. still hadn't heard from him by 6 p.m. so we ordered room service. She apoligized. I was unimpressed with concierge. By the way it was a 4 night on the wonder.

Arnaldo, who is the epitome of what concierge should be, is no longer working concierge. He is now working as crew member liaison, the guy who makes sure everything is taken care of for the cm's, such as paperwork and travel plans. Big gain for cm's, big loss for us.

He has been our concierge twice, on the Magic, and the man is incredible. If you ask, it is done. Even if you don't ask.:) On our last cruise, we had a room tour of the Walt suite (some very nice Dissers were staying there), and our midship cat 3. We never mentioned it to Arnaldo, but he knew I had ordered several bottles of champagne, to be delivered at a specified time, so he shows up with huge cheese and fruit trays for each cabin. A total surprise! He's such a nice guy, I will really miss him!

:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
I am so dissapointed that Arnaldo won't be our concierge. I can't imagine how anyone could fill his shoes.

The CM's work so hard on those ships. I'm glad they have someone as amozing as Arnaldo working on their behalf.

Out of curiosity......Was your last cruise the Nov. 11-18, 2006 double dip???? We were on that cruise in Cat. 3 and we too toured the suites (and had a cocktail in the Walt suite...a marguerita I think) That was a great bunch!

I may have been spoiled all around in my 1st cruise experience.

I hope I won't be dissapointed in March.

We were all a bit spoiled on that cruise, weren't we? A generous group of DISers, an amazing crew, great weather and two stops at paradise! :thumbsup2

Touring a cat 1, 2 and 3 and visiting Hannosmom one night for hot chocolate and cookies and dancing with Keyon on 60's night  will be something I'll always remember.

Well I am back from the Magic and already waiting to book again for 2009. Loved my Category 2... did get a peek at the Category 1's and am ready to book those next.

Our concierge team were absolutely delightful! Jonathan and Pascal were very attentive and took notes and made sure everything we needed or even suggested we might like to try were taken care of. We were even lucky enough to have Jamira (land concierge) on the ship at the reception prior to sailing and got to meet her.

One night we had rough seas and they called to check on us... 3 of our party of 6 were sea sick and within 2 minutes, Ginger Ale came via room service complements of our concierge.

We did order in from the restaurant one night and the table was set complete with table cloth and wine glasses.

There was not one thing they could have done better. I am hoping that those of you that have had a not so great team, get a chance to experience the service they provide because you will feel like you finally got what you have been wanting in concierge service.

OOOhhhhhh! I'm so excited! I'll keep my fingers crossed that they are our team in March! I've been a little bummed out since I found out that Arnaldo is no longer a concierge. This gives me a lift. Thanks:thumbsup2
I think I'd like to book for 2009 as well. I have a Cat. 1 request in for 2010 but I don't think I can wait that long!
I'm beginning to think this is an addiction!

Just a quick question. I am going to be staying in a Cat. 3 during our next cruise (7 night) and I was wondering if it was possible for your conceirge team to bring you a copy of the dining menus? I know you can't take them from the dining room, but I am an avid scrapbooker and already planning my cruise scrapbook! The menus will be a GREAT addition. TIA for any info :-)

I can't tell you for sure because I have never asked for the menus, but I bet they would accomodate you. It certainly would not be the nost outrageous request they have had.

Glad you had a great cruise!

We have a midship Cat 3 booked on the Magic, Suite 8534. The posts about the noise level have me kind of worried. Is it really that bad? When you say a white noise machine, what did you bring? Would a small fan work? How bad is it really?

Thanks

PS

What is the veranda furniture like?

Thanks

We were in 8532 on the Thanksgiving double dip last year, and the noise from deck 9 was pretty bad until around midnight. Since that area of deck 8 is under the area right outside the arcade, we heard kids running back and forth until it closed. The chair/table noise wasn't as bad as when we stayed in 8048 (enough to wake me up), but I did still hear it. If I wanted to stay in a mid-ship cat 3 again, I think I would pick one of the two on the other side of the ship. They are pretty much under the Cove cafe area so it should (hopefully) be quieter.

I think we had 3 chairs, a small table and a lounger on the verandah.

There was a copy of every menu in the concierge book in the room. I thought afterwards that I should have taken pictures of each menu. I didn't ask for a copy but I don't think it would be completely impossible. You do get a copy (one for each person as well as concierge brought us up one earlier in the evening) of the pirates night.

We had Jonathan and Pascal and thought they were great. They did a lot for us and had good attention to the details. They were much better than the par we had on the Wonder last October. Don't remember their names but they were pretty useless.

We were in 8532. You hear noise, mostly footsteps from kids running or rolling of carts from above, but it was not loud enough to wake us up or keep us awake at night. It wasn't loud enough to really bother us so I would definately stay in 8532 again.

I may depend on when you are cruising. There were over 900 kids on the Thanksgiving double dip last year, so that may have had something to do with the noise from deck 9. Once the arcade closed, it was actually pretty quiet.

The quietest cat 3 we've ever stayed in was 8602 on the EB repo in 2005. Even though it is under Topsiders, we rarely heard any noise from above. We stayed in 8600 this past April and it was also quiet. The noisiest cat 3 we've stayed in was 8048. The early morning noise from deck 9 (rolling carts, tables and chairs being moved, etc.) woke me up every morning, around 5:00am.

Yeah, you must of had the same concierge team we had last October on the Wonder. :sad2: We are going into our Dec. cruise with pretty low expectations. I handled the most important things myself and made only few requests of Jaimra (land based concierge). To be honest, we are pretty low maintenance and book the suite for the space.

I also had low expectations based on our previous experience and had things pretty well planned out myself as far as excursions and reservations. I was pleasantly suprised after meeting Jonathan. He came to me with suggestions and recommendations of things I had not thought of and was also very helpful on when we decided to change some of our plans on short notice.
