We just got back from our 5k. It was great weather for a 5k race. Low 60’s with a light breeze. It was an out & back starting in the Justice Complex, going past the Library, past the Jackson Jungle Playground, and out to the road. Down the road, turn around & head back. There were approx 120 people in the race & we finished near the back. I finished Garmin Time of 37:22 11:58mpm; Clock Time of 37:31 with 3 people finishing behind me, but since that was a PR….I’ll take it.:yay: John finished Garmin Time 40:23 13:02mpm; Clock Time of 40:32 with 1 person behind him, again since that was a PR…..he’ll take it.:yay: All in all not a bad race for a small hometown race.

I completed another Rock n Roll Half at Virginia Beach and I must say this was about the best weather I think I've ever had. (I've done this race a few times.) This morning was cool with a light breeze and the temps were not supposed to get above the low 80's all day. Because the race started at 7 and had a 4-hour time limit, that meant we should all be finished before the heat became oppressive.
I injured my back last weekend (somehow!) and was nervous about this weekend. Fortunately, some rest, ice, ibuprofin and muscle relaxers did the trick and I was able to finish without causing more damage. I took it pretty easy though, so no PR for me.
I met TinkerbelleofWinter in my corral before the race started -- gotta love those bright green shirts -- and got numerous compliments all day on my WISH shirt saying. It is a wonderful sentiment and so many back-of-the-packers can relate, I think.
All-in-all, a very good day. Great weather, good bands and cheerleaders on the course, good community support (one neighborhood passed out ice pops -- I'm writing a letter to the Virginian Governor to recommend a national holiday in their honor and maybe to the Pope to nominate them for sainthood -- what a treat!!!!!!). Another one under the belt.
Now it's off to bed for me. So glad I still have one day of rest before going back to work.

Wendy you are amazing, you are in our marathon girl hall of fame.
John and Karen a PR is wonderful.
Erica and I are doing a 2 mile walk race in about 2 hours. It looks like the weather will be wonderful for us. Last year we did well at this race, Erica and I both won our age group and I was third overall.
Good luck to everyone else whose racing this morning.

Greetings everyone:
I ran the Oak Tree 1/2 Marathon yesterday. It was a local 1/2 marathon with about 250 runners. It was a gorgeous day to run - blue cloudless skys and sunny. It was about 70 degrees. Most of the course was on dirt roads through rolling farmland. It was beautiful - reminded me of when I lived in Vermont. I decided to see if I could average a 9 min mile pace for the race, but I was not going to push it as I considered it a training run. Mile 4 was down a huge hill, and I saw the mile marker for mile 12 on the other side. I thought, uugh, this is going to be a bear to run back up at the end of the race. Well I finished in 2:00:36 min. My Garmin read 13.19 miles for a 9:09 mpm pace. I felt pretty good the whole way - so I was excited about that.
I was on my cruise (I mean taper and carbo load) last week, and didn't do much running. So I considered the race my way of getting back into my training for the Marine Corps Marathon. For a training run, I was really happy with the run.

Thanks everyone for the kudos. I can’t tell you how much they mean to me. The PR was kind of bitter-sweet. The feeling that I’ve improved so much is great, but still coming in almost last (there were 3 people behind me & 1 person 10 seconds ahead of me – everyone else finished in under 32minutes) was dragging me down. WISHer’s are the best! All of your kudos & encouragement has really helped me feel good about my accomplishment. Thanks!!!
Jen – The hip has its moments, but for the most part as long as I keep stretching good at least a couple times a day & not push it too much, it hasn’t been bad. Hopefully it will stay that way as the weekly mileage increases to the full.
Wendy – CONGRATULATIONS!!!:woohoo: Glad the back held up for you & nice weather is always a plus. A neighborhood handing out ice pops….how cool is that!
Dave – Good luck this morning to you & Erica!

 GOOD MORNING WISHERS !! J
Just finished my 5K!! I must say that I am happy with my time considering the back, ear infection, and cough issues I have been dealing with.
I finished in 28:30 :cool1: which is not bad considering the heat!! It was brutal. It is a very fast group out there since every cross country team in the county is there. Also, a lot of the run is through grass and .. what we here in FL call dirt (IT'S SAND :rotfl: )
As of yesterday I was not even going to do this race but I am so glad I did.
I read everyone else's reports so far and you guys are awesome. I'm sorry I don't have time to post individually right now. We are off to the BEACH :cool2:
Have an awesome day everyone!!

Karen, Don't feel bad about being near the end. Most of my races are like that also. The local races here are small and fast. I think that is common. The one thing you have is that YOU DID IT and FINISHED!!!! No one can make you feel bad about that because there are millions of other people that haven't even tried!!!!!
Angie - CONGRATS! I am glad you were able to get out there.
Wendy - CONGRATS! I too would like to do a Rock N Roll 1/2. the ice pops must have been the idea of a GENIUS!!! Wow, how cool is that!
Dave - Great to have you back. Your 1/2 time is way impressive to me!

Karen and John: Congrats on your PRs. Karen, don't even think twice about finishing close to the back. The important part is that you finished and with a good time. Enjoy!!
Wendy: Thanks for the report. I'm glad you had a good time despite your back problems. Hope you enjoyed your rest day.
SWDave: Great job on your "training run". It seems the taper/ carbo load routine worked well for you. Too bad you can't do that again before MCM.
Angie: Good job on your race despite the heat.
