i actually carry my passport with me (only mine, not the rest of the family's)..
everyone else carries their driver's license that includes a picture (i also carry that - but i have the passport as well, just in case)...

I have been asked for ID many many times. In fact, nearly every time i ask for an alcholic drink. I'm nearly 29 so maybe i should be flattered :rotfl:
I have a drivers license so i have no need to carry my passport though.

We scanned in the relevant page from our passports and laminated them for water damage and they were small enough to slip into whatever bags or pockets we had.
No real issue if we lost them.
We needed them once or twice for traveller cheques but if there is any hassle with your park tickets for example, it's always good to have some form of ID with you.
It's a good idea to have a copy of your passports somewhere safe just in case, or is that just me.
As for buying alcoholic drinks, I wouldn't know. :rolleyes1

Last three years I have not taken out my passport. Any time I have been asked for I.D. my photo driving licence has been accepted.

Same here, always use driving license. Passports go in safe and stay there until we come home.

I agree with Obi and wayne... we put our passports in the safe (in the villa/hotel) and just carry our drivers licences (the photo ID part).
If you order an alcoholic drink (even at the age of 50! Although I am not...), you can be asked for ID. That isn't a big thing, but sometimes shops ask to see ID when you pay by credit card.
To be honest I wouldn't be without some form od photo ID either here or abroad - it makes life so much easier...

Last trip I was asked for ID once. This trip I was asked almost every day. I was told by a Disney cast member not many UK travellers have AP's so they usually ask for ID when using them for discounts.
I think the main reason for increased ID requests is many places now you dont have to sign for transactions under $50(some places $25) they just swipe your card and give you receipt.

Odd isn't it? Doesn't seem very secure (not having to sign or PIN etc) and feels less like you are spending money... :rotfl:

It is not at all secure, that has to be reason for increased ID requests but still many of my transactions went thru with no ID. Can't believe they dont have chip and pin :confused3

I got a photo driving licence just so that I had ID that i could carry round. I didn't want to take my passport with me when i went out. I have been asked for it a few times when using a credit card. I hated paying the £19 at the time just to get ID, but my husband got one a few months ago and the cost was just £10 and they took his photo from his passport. All done over the internet - no hastle.

Last time DM and I were there, I was told off by a CM at Cape May Cafe for trying to use a photocopy of my passport- she made me like a criminal! No other CMs had a problem with it though- guess it's just the luck of the draw. Nevertheless, I have ordered a provisional driving licence for this trip.. ;)

I have carried a photocopy of my passport and not had a problem. Safer than carrying your real passport.
