The best I am seeing right now for Newark/NYC to San Diego on Continental -end of June, 2008 is $312 RT
Newark/NYC to LAX is $358 RT.
We are going to spend 2 nights in SD and then 6 nights at DL, so either airport should work.
This is our first trip to CA, so I'm not sure what is considered a descent fare.
Wondering if I should book now or wait a little longer.

Yes, those are very good airfares. I about died when I had to pay over $500 pp from SNA to LGA the other day.
I would choose the San Diego one since you plan to be there. LAX is bigger, harder to get around, and an hour north of Disneyland.
Enjoy your trip!

How about Jet Blue from JFK down to Orange County?

I believe jetblue only goes into Long Beach, but that could be a good option as well...

I was looking for a flight to San Diego in March 2008 on Continental and it was close to $400. Ughh.

We are flying to San Diego in June and I paid $199.00 round trip per person. We are flying out of Wichita, KS on Frontier.

Those are excellent fares. DW and I had to fly from SD to Boston several times and the fares were in excess of $600.00 RT (note that some fares were last minute, family emergency) When we could book in advance, they were a lot lower!

Are you near any airports that Southwest Airlines flies to? We just went to SD and our RT tickets ended up being $198. We first paid $312 RT, but then SW lowered its airfare via DING fares and they gave us the difference in flight credits for future SW flights. I love SW -- their planes may always be pretty full, but you often get great fares.
