Unfortunately for me, just using acne cleansers isn't enough (and now that I'm no longer a teen they just dry me out). Best thing I've found is to wash my face morning and evening with a gentle soap -- no make-up to bed. When I do have a break-out, I use a treatment gel with benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient to spot treat. Also helps to eat lots of fruits and veggies, stay away from the sugar, and stay out of the sun. Hope this helps...

Not sure how severe your case is. If its beyond just the occasional pimple or two I might suggest Pro Active? I used that for about six years with wonderful results. I don't need it now, whatever caused me to suddenly get adult acne resolved itself. But it was a Godsend at the time. It doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me. I believe they also make knock off brands now you can get at a drug store, Target or Wal Mart. I haven't tried those, but if they say "compare to Pro Active" they must be similar at least. And probably cheaper.

I also have to say that Pro Active was fine when I called to cancel. No pressure to keep getting the stuff, they were just happy to know my acne was gone. Very easy to get in and out of. I believe many malls have kiosks now so you don't have to do the mail order thing.

Good luck!

I unfortunately have adult acne. Nothing over the counter would work for me so I had to end up going to a dermatologist. I use benzamycin in the morning and retin A at night. Plus I have to use a special cleanser to wash my face with and they suggested oral contraceptives. Stress can definetly cause breakouts as well as a million other things (hormones is a big culprit too). Have you tried anything over the counter? If not I would try something as soon as possible. Proactive does seem to work on alot of people unfortunately I wasn't one of them. If that is too expensive for you I would suggest Noxezma. They have a great cleanser and toner for problem skin. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!
