Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Hey, I'm first! Did a late evening run for 45 min. No idea how far could have been 2 miles or 4 just ran for the fun of it! Have a great week!

Not sure if I'm officially training or not, but I did 5 miles today that turned out great! I switched to R4/W2 since I really liked it at CDC and actually was faster than my last 5 mile run in June at R4/W1 :confused3 My official starting pace for training is 12:49, just a couple seconds off the LR pace recommended by the RW training plan. I think I'm going to be doing a modified RW Bingdon fusion plan, incorporating elements of RW, higdon and MFM. Today's run has me well on-pace for a 5:45 full...if I finish under 6 hours there will be :dancer: (if I can actually move after the full).
Carrie...:cake: party: :bday: Happy belated birthday! Hope the new job is going well and you get a chance to check in here soon!
Beth...sorry your run was ugly. Weather here is similar though we got a bit of a break with some rain yesterday and today. Good thing, too. It was 81 degrees at 6am yesterday morning when I left to take DD14 to band practice.
Lisa...great to see you back in action! Good luck with tomorrow's run!
PatBill...:wizard: for your back and glad that TOT works well with your bodily functions ;)
Dana...great pace on your 10-miler!
Terri...have fun at WDW! Sounds like you have a LOT going on this fall!
Andrew...sorry 'bout that stonker, dude. :wizard: for your 20 miler and your race!
Lily...hope your mom is doing well!
Kristi...if your DH is okay with it, then go for it! We're not much excitement on New Year's Eve either. I'm not really good at traveling without the fam...I still feel guilty about leaving DH to go to CDC.
Stephanie...great pace on your run!
NewWWDave...I saw those same bunnies today but mine weren't talking. Must be some kind of population explosion.
Kim...you'll do great on your half! Most of the hard work is already done!
Steve...sorry about your stonker. House cleaning counts as cross training so since you've already run today and will need a rest day tomorrow, I'd say no cleaning until at least Monday ;)
Renee...guy on stilts? How hot and humid was it? ;)
Jackie...:wizard: for your ankle!
Nancy...no wimps around here, you just chose an alternate training route for today :thumbsup2 .
Monica...snow??? Seriously???
Judy...how were you, Garmin and Amphipod doing today? Thanks for the reminder of our blessings.
Martha...I must have missed something. Does fixing the toilet cause trees to fall down? I'm using the same higdon novice plan but a couple weeks behind you. What do you think of those mid-week longer runs?
Cindy...glad you popped in for a bit!
Kristin...great to see you around as well!
Jen...hope you had a great trip to WDW! I finally made our Ohana ressies for after the full...I think we got something around 6:30 if anyone's interested!
I'm enjoying that fabulous football karma that occurs only in preseason when the Bucs play the Dolphins. I grew up as a Dolphins fan, but we now live in a huge Bucs TV market, so hardly ever see the Dolphins play. It's really cool to see them play each other!
I'm excited and scared to be training for the full. Glad to be back in action, but really freaked out about those 12+ LR :scared:
Just found this study on the post-exercise ice bath: http://bjsm.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/41/6/392. I'm going to try to pull the article so I can read the whole thing.

Not really sure what I did... but I can't put ANY weight on my left foot! I did step in a hole last Sunday while I was mowing the yard, but it didn't hurt until midweek (after my TM run on Tuesday night). It was only a little sore when I started this morning, so I really thought it was one of those you-can-run-through-it pains. Now it's swollen, so I'm icing and elevating, but unless there's serious improvement by Monday I'll have to let the doc look at it. And just when training was going so well! I'm actually using an old pair of DD's crutches to get around tonight, since I've been reduced to tears a couple of times when I've actually left the couch. I am NOT a happy camper. :sad1:

Glad to see everyone has been getting in some good weekend training. Those of you on the 16-18 milers are scaring me, although I won't be there for another 8 weeks or so. What do you all do as far as refueling during those long runs. I have a camelbak that I get my water from but usually anything around 9-10 and longer I feel like I should be taking in some kind of sports drink or food. I have a bunch of food allergies and thus cannot use gus/gels/or powerbars which really limits me. All ideas are welcome on this one!
I got in a nice slow 7 miler yesterday at approx. 11 min per mile pace. Would've been faster but I had a strong side-stitch for about a mile of it and had to walk it off.
Jackie - I'm so sorry to hear about your possible injury. I hope a little rest and some ice will having you feel better soon! Keep us posted!

Hey everyone. I am back from WDW and very depressed (along with my girls). I will post some pics this week. We left this morning and all I have to say is...... WOW, there were crowds coming in for that free dining promotion. I imagine the parks will be crazy this week. They were busier than we are used to last week and our hotel was pure craziness this morning.
Now I have to get back on track and plan.... did I mention I gained some extra baggage while at WDW? And no I don't mean the t-shirts I bought!!
Mel - My foot is feeling good after 2 weeks off, so I am going to try 4/2 or 3/2 for training. I am aiming at under 6 hours, but that will depend on how my foot acts!!!! You just always seem so much more speedier than me. I am hoping to lose 20 pounds before the Full, so maybe that will help me with my speed and I can keep up with you!!!
Meghan - I got the maps... now I just have to find them in my piles of mess!!!
OK, I really need to get some sleep. I have laundry piles to do and house cleaning. DD6's teacher is coming over tomorrow for a home visit and then she starts school on Monday. Oh and I don't have all her school supplies yet!!! Oh and grocery shopping... YIKES, I will be busy tomorrow.

Oh no!!!! Definitely get it checked out. I bet you might have sprained it or something and maybe the original step in hole didn't yield any different pain that would be noticable. Pixie dust for a speedy recovery!
Don't fret about training! I had knee surgery in the middle of training my last half marathon (had actually been training for the full). I couldn't run for well over a month and finished just fine!
Beginning of the season is actually best for these kind of snafus and in the big scheme of training, you should be fine!
Good morning everybody!
WOoooooohoooooo--I am back on the training bandwagon!
I will say it was OBVIOUS that i have NOT done a training run in well over a year.:rotfl:
But today is nothing but a victory! I rolled my butt out of bed, got dressed, and hit the road for Day 1 of Penguin Run/Walk training.:cool1:
35 minutes of 3/2's
Today's Victories:
I did not quit!
I did all the intervals!
I got home in one piece!
Total time (exclusive of warm up/cool down): 35 minutes
Distance: 2.67 miles
Pace: 13.1 minute mile on average
Back half was definitely slower than the front half. My 1st mile was a 12:01 pace.
Half way through got past the condo's and could hear the waves crashing against the shore.:goodvibes It was a bit humid--but not too bad. Timing my runs with sunrise so that I can run early, but not in the dark. Looks like it starts getting light about a half hour before "official" sunrise.
Happy Sunday everyone! Time to stretch--fuel up--and do a sprint to get ready for mass.

Hello everyone. Long time no post. :guilty:
The last month has been crazy with work, vacations, and house guests. Hopefully things will be getting back to normal now with school starting tomorrow.
Luckily I've been sticking to my training plan. Well, mostly. I think I missed one SW per week for the last 5 weeks. And then for the most recent week, I had to skip Sunday - Wednesday due to a pain in my inner right thigh. A regular SW on Thursday was 85% fine.
And my first-ever 23 mi LW was better than I hoped for yesterday. Biggest complaint is that my feet were on fire at the end. I started at 6:10 am and ended at 11:3X, just as the temp was creeping over 90. The last 4 miles had no shade. Ugh. But, I made it.
23 mi, 5:22:53, 14:02 pace.
My final LW will be 26 (I know, unusual) on Sept 15, then a 4 week taper to the Baltimore Marathon on Oct 13. I open to suggestions if anyone has some better ideas.
Have a great week, everyone. :)
Oh, one last thing...DS15 made the cross country team. He never considered himself a runner before, but he loves this team. :thumbsup2

Nice walk Kelley, you are doing super. I have the same problem with hot feet by the end of the marathons. It has a lot to do with the shoes, a good roomy toe box and good cushioning helps a lot.
Rest day for me, I did an easy mile and some stretching just to stay loose while waiting for Erica to get off work so we could go to breakfast.
I bagged 25 miles last week dispite the heat and humidity, this week is going to be down from the 100 degree days so it should feel better. Erica is over her cold so an LSD day is on tap for tomorow.
I have a question for the Disney vets. If I have an annual pass and I book a Disney hotel, like Pop, can I get Disney Dinning with it or do you have to by a package with park tickets to get the Dinning?
Have an awesome day WISH Team.

Morning WISH Team!
I'm on my way out but wanted to let all know I've updated The WISH Team calendar (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=16623550#post16623550). Please check and add your event too!

I open to suggestions if anyone has some better ideas. My only thought is you are doing a full a month before a full? I don't know of any plans that call for that, are you following a particular plan then? I'd be interested in knowing of it. If it is working for you, you go!
Sorry for the continued drive-bys. LTO and all...

Howdy fellow WISHers! Great to see everyone's getting their training in, despite varied and not always hospitable conditions :)
The past couple of days I realized I'd been trying to ramp up my speed and pace too much too quickly, and it wasn't making me very happy to do my runs, so I decided to chill and back down to a slower (and more comfortable) rate, and try not to worry so much about how long it actually takes me to complete my distances.
I did 5.5 miles both last night and on Friday night, both in somewhere between 11-12 min/mi, and felt pretty good. I didn't really have a long run this week, but my total mileage was about 10% more than last week, so I'm taking it as a 'win' :woohoo:
Today's a rest day for me, so I'll be cheering all of you doing your LRs and regular training today from the sidelines :cheer2:
have a great Sunday, everyone!

Dave - To get the DDP you would have to buy a package. The DDP has changed signifcantly in 2008 and many are saying its not worth it.
As an AP holder you do have the option of purchasing a DDE card. This gets you 20% off most restaurants (includes alcohol). If you like to dine in the nicer restaurants it can be quite a savings.
Oh an as an AP holder you also get discounts off certain restaurants at certain times. Check you AP holder for the info.

Jen – Glad you guys had a good time at the World.
Lisa – Glad your training is going well!
Kelley – WTG with the 23 miler!
Lily – Have a great training day.
Moonie – WTG with the training.

Minnie, I will be getting the dinning experience just before the ToT, Robert had told me about that but I couldn't remember about the other way. Thanks for clearifing it for me. The senile among us tend to get the details confused.:guilty:
Moon I came to the same conclusion about trying to maintain to fast a pace during this heat and humidity. Slower is better right now. A PR is wonderful but the cost right now is just to much.

1. You will make out like a bandit if you are elibigle for the Disney Dining Experience. YOu do need to get this ahead of time. And if you get it too close to your trip, you can pick up the letter at EPCOT (let DDE know) and you can use that if you don't have your DDE card. 20%...including alcohol. I relished getting a discounted frufru drink at Poly to go drink on the beach while watching the fireworks. EACH person must have their own though. You used to be able to get two (like for you and a spouse or partner) but they changed that.:headache: And the person whose name is on the card MUST be present to use it.
2. I think what you have to do..and what most do--is they have to get a package. But you can get Disney dining for all days--but just do a 1 day park ticket. YOu would have to evaluate if that is worth your while. As a Florida Resident with a seasonal pass--I do run into that problem. They want me to buy tickets when I already have them. That suggestion was mentioned around here on the boards.
23 mi, 5:22:53, 14:02 pace.

Awesome job, Kelly!
My only thought--the elites do have full training runs in anticipation of a full event...but it is not typical of novices. However--some of us nutjobs are doing a half marathon the day before a full marathon....so I'm not sure yours is any worse than what we are doing.:rotfl: Maybe for the last 3 miles--kick it down a notch...you will log the miles....but at an easier pace.
Or just do 24. Not sure what plan you are on--but WOW! You have done 23 miles already....and 3 weeks until yoru 4 week taper....hmmmm.....
Kristi1357--GOOD JOB!

Good morning....oppsss afternoon team!!!!
Dh and I just got back from our 12K...waited to long it was very hot but not too humid at least. 12K in 1:49 which is just over a 9K pace...need to work on that but I am OK with it. Scotia 1/2 marathon gives you 4 hours to complete so not too worried about speed at this point.
DisnuttWay to get out there last night.
MelWTG on your 5M and pace that is great. I love football but I am more a Canadian Football League fan, I do follow the NFL but I usually pick a team to cheer for and the last few years it has been the Falcons because I liked Mike Vick....wellllll ......My new team is going to New Orleans. I really started watching them towards the end of last season and into the superbowl. I think that city needs something to cheer about.
JackieSorry to hear about your foot, hope it is nothing to serious
KristinWTG on your 7M!!!!
JenHope you and the family had a great time in WDW!!!!! I would love to lose 20pds before Jan as well.
LisaCongrats on your 2.67!!

Well everyone, I live to tell the tail of 18 miles.......Wow, what an experience. I did it, the longest I have ever run in 4 hours. I would like to have gone faster, but the migrane didn't let that happen. My head hurt pretty bad, but I continued to plod along. I walked several times, but pretty much ran it. I had a potty break at mile 11 out of necessity, but did get a drink and cooled down a little. Probably at least a 15 minute break, since the soda machine didn't want my soggy dollar bill. Had to 'dry' it off in the BR under the hand dryer.
This was the first time I really 'listened' to how my body was feeling. I am sure it's good to have some idea how bad we will feel running 26.2 miles. I usually try to 'tune it out' but I really want to be able to run through the discomfort, so I tuned in and felt it all! Not to bad, but it's funny how every body part has something going on! I did end up with some chub rub from my shorts being soaking wet from sweat!
The weather was ok......I started out just after 7:00a and it was good until later morning. This was a cooling breeze here and there that made it ok. All in all it was ok. I am glad it is over. I will have only one more super long run before my marathon which will be 20 miles in two weeks.
Jackie: I hope the foot is ok....take it easy over the next couple of days.
Kristen: I actually take 2 bottle of 1/2 strength gatorade and a bag of mini fig newtons to eat along the way. I only eat a banana to start, so I do need to take something along for a pick me up.
I hope everyone else is fairing well this weekend.

Oh, one last thing...DS15 made the cross country team. He never considered himself a runner before, but he loves this team. :thumbsup2
Kelly - WTG on that LW! You are doing great! I know lots of people have totally different opinions about training, but if you have planned for a 26 mile walk then a good taper (and 4 weeks is good) then go for it. I have run several marathons with different taper times and different mileage requirments. I have gone up to 26.2, 18, 24, and 20 miles. I think a plan needs to be judged by how you feel at mile 20. When I plan for and go up to at least 24 I have to say that I feel better at mile 20 than when I went lower in mileage. So that is my $.02. Good luck and congrats to DS15!
Beth - WTG on the run! Great time!
Did my 70 mile ride yesterday!:cool1: Was 97 when we finished and the course was very hilly. There was one hill that was over 2 miles long! Another one was called "Walk Up Hill". I went up that one at a blistering 12 MPH!:lmao: But all in all it was good. Ave pace was around 18/19 MPH but got up to 33.5 a few times!:rolleyes1

Unfortunately, no new training to report. Had a good walk on Monday night (2.25 miles at 18:20 pace), then the wheels fell off Friday as my back starting tightening during my walk. Only did 1.5 miles (had to get back home) and needed a sun dial to time the pace. Eventhough the back felt better during the day Friday, it has been spasming on and off since Friday night and I am starting to look like a question mark again. Oh well. I'll give it a few days to calm down and loosen up. Hoefully I won't lose the gains made thus far.
Congrats to everyone on their workouts, long runs, long bike rides and those WISHers who had/have cycling events this weekend. You all help keep me inspired (even if today it is only from a computer monitor).
Also, my best to all the wouned WISH warriors for speedy recoveries.

Hi! I've heard great things about WISH and wanted to check it out. I am part of the Sole Sisters of Portland, OR (klh-or, rake5) and we're doing the half marathon at WDW.
I'd love to be added to the team! Thanks!

Kim: Good job on the 12K!
Beth: Wow....18 miles!!! Yayyy! I'm not sure I could keep at it with a migraine.:headache:
Did my 70 mile ride yesterday! Was 97 when we finished and the course was very hilly. There was one hill that was over 2 miles long! Another one was called "Walk Up Hill". I went up that one at a blistering 12 MPH! But all in all it was good. Ave pace was around 18/19 MPH but got up to 33.5 a few times!
   and did I mention  !
Excellent job! ETA: You didn't by chance go to UF did you? I am curious about your user name.
nepatsfan73: If you don't mind me asking...what is wrong with your back? My back went out during my 20 miler for my full training 3 years ago (almost). My lower back ended up swelling later in the week. Wasn't until 6 months later that we found the source. But turning my taper into a sleeper helped and I did run/walk the full back-pain free. (though if you notice my time, I had other much more severe problems that day unrelated to back pain).
plutopdx WELCOME!!!! And tag teaming is a-okay around here. I was with team in training my first 2 seasons. Split my time between that team and my WISH team. :)
My quads are starting to notice that I ran this morning.:scared1:

nepatsfan73: If you don't mind me asking...what is wrong with your back?
To try to sum it up briefly:rolleyes1 , the primary problems with my back are arthritis, spondolosis and a few bulging disks, one of which sits on the nerve that runs to the top of the leg and then splits to the hip and/or groin. I also tore muscles in my back twice while wrestling in high school and college. This has been the primary reason why I have had reoccurring episodes of spasms over the past 25+ years and the spasming has affected the disks. These back problems have been compounded by having both hips replaced due to osteoarthritis over the past 2 1/2 years. I also picked up a hopital infection during the initial right hip replacement and before everything was "straightened" out on that side I had 5 surgeries (two to put hips in, one to take the first artificial hip out (I went about 3 months with no hip on the right side) and a couple of clean out procedures). All the hip stuff resulted in alignment and posture problems that made the back worse.
Hope thats not too much detail. At this point in my life, its just something I try to deal with and I try to limit how much I let it affect me day in and day out, even when I am walking around bent in half.

Kelly: congrats on the 23 miles........and good luck on the 26! The only thing that's missing from your training program is another medal.
Jackie: so sorry to hear about the foot and hope you recover quickly.
Renee: how long does it take you to get to Shelley lake? We're in WF and sometimes it takes 40-45 minutes to get there. I have never seen the guy on stilts and I have no idea how to get to the Crabtree trail. Is it through that little underpass that goes underneath near the parking lot?
Beth: Wow, 18 miles......that's amazing! Funny story about your wet dollar bill.
The Mickey marathon is exactly 20 weeks from today! Time to get excited!

Nah, TCU! Funny though...I guess the user name is kinda strange for someone who did not go to UF....Long story short, we call my DD9 Gator, so that is my username...mainly so I can remember it.:rotfl:
nepatsfan73 - Sorry about the back! Lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you to get through this!
plutopdx - WELCOME!
The Mickey marathon is exactly 20 weeks from today! Time to get excited!
:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: That make me sad...not excited! I am not going this year!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
So to ease my pain and suffering I am running the Charlotte Marathon, and trying to talk DH into Myrtle Beach marathon...and in April there is a trail marathon on the Va Creeper Trail for only $10:eek: YES you heard right! $10 for a marathon!!!!:cool1: And I MAY do it!:woohoo:

Good morning WISH Team.
Robert and I are planning dinner at that Canadian Steak House at Epcot for the 16th of January, anyone else interested before I look at getting reservations?
Erica the Wonder Princess and I start our Goofy training today. The plan is for 5 miles today and 10 tomorrow. I have really missed training with her while she was down with the summer cold. I told her I better start working out with weights so I'll be able to carry her butt for 39 miles. Yep that got me whacked.
The temp is down here today and should be slowly decreasing for a while. I'm so ready for the cooler weather. We haven't had rain for a long time.
Have an awesome day Team.

Morning teammates! Not sure what's on the plate today. DD has her first ballet class--so I might do an easy run or some xtraining during that. Yesterday was a rest day--and boy did I need it--felt like I had been run over by a large truck. After training for a marathon in the winter and now in the summer, I would much rather run in the 30s than the 80s!
WWDave--Would love to join you at Le Cellier--but we're heading back home on the 15th. It's one of our faves, have a great time!
Christa--Wow, 3 marathons to make up for not doing disney--you must be REALLY depressed!;) Good luck training for all those events, and you will be with us in spirit!
Kelley--Wow on the 23 miler! That's awesome :cheer2: . I'm not one to go over the 20 miler in training, but if those longer pre-race distances work for you go for it!:thumbsup2 My dad always trained at 23+ for marathons, his theory was, if he didn't run those longer distances during training, how would he know what to expect in a race. My theory, whatever gets you to the starting line healthy and allows you to finish in the allotted time works for me!;)
Patsbill--Wow on all the back stuff and hip replacement, shall we say, snafus! I'm amazed that you are even trying to get out there and walk and train for a 1/2! WTG!
plutopdx--Welcome to our madness, um, I mean team!
Beth--WTG on the 18 miles! DH keeps talking about how bad it was, but I keep reminding him of what wise old Rafiki says "It's in the past!" It's in the books, we did it, no matter how long it took, unlike 99% of the population we were out there sweating for 3+ hours this weekend!
jeanneg--Wow on 20 weeks--:yay: :dance3: I remember how fast this past 18 week training plan has flown by for me! On week 15 already! WDW will be here before we know it!:woohoo:
Kim--WTG on your 12K!:yay:
Lisa--WTG starting the training for Goofy--I am just amazed that you are training period this soon after having a baby! My son was at least 9 months old before I decided that some of the baby weight MUST come off!
Hey--any ya'll have experience with spider bites? I know WAY off topic, but DD has some really strange bite on her leg. She complained about it hurting, but it never itched. And it really hasn't gotten better since Sat. morning. Okay, off to get dressed and get DD ready for ballet! Have a great Monday morning all!
Hey, where are Carrie and Cam??:confused3

:( I'm so sorry to hear that. Have any Physical Therapists been able to help you out? My mom has severe back issues that have her disabled. She can't stand or sit for too long and requires a scooter at Disney!
I admire your fortitude (is that the right vocab word??) to push on and do what you can. WTG!:cheer2:
Nah, TCU! Funny though...I guess the user name is kinda strange for someone who did not go to UF....Long story short, we call my DD9 Gator, so that is my username...mainly so I can remember it.
Awww bummer!

lol! I had a friend who has done a couple of post baby marathons. I figure I am no more out of shape having a baby than I was before my first marathon. I actually think I am stronger---though these runs...WOW!
As far as spider bites. I know my daughters when they get mosquito bites, they get pretty big. Oldest daughter has a sensitivity to them.
Me: Day 2 of training--then tomorrow a rest day and will pick up on Wed right on schedule. Hubby left at 4am this morning. So I had to do my run today with the kids entertaining the baby on my bed. I was to do 35 minutes...but at around 22 minutes...he had had enough. So I wrapped it up at 26:30 and 2.11 miles on the treadmill and a mini cool down. Pace was 12.56---so not fair that we go faster on the treadmill.:rolleyes1 Trying to be efficient--I did 2:3's instead of 3:2's....flipped it from a run/walk to a walk/run with the first 2:00 walk serving as a warm-up. NO worries though b/c this season before i start running, I do 3 of Teresa Tapp's exercises that do a fine job of getting the body ready for a workout.
Was bummed that I didn't get the full run in for about a millisecond. But remembered reading an article in runner's world about some guy who hasn't missed a day of running for like 20 years...."ANY run is better than NO run"....
So with no hubby home--respectable training day and thus..another VICTORY.
Shuffling around the homeschool schedule--going to try 10am starts (we do about 2.5-3 hours) to accomodate settling baby down in his crib for his morning nap, the early morning training, and chore time.
Interviewing a maid service on Thursday...b/c....I officially HATE cleaning!
New A/C getting installed on Thursday/Friday to replace the innefficient dinosaur that we own. ($323 power bill last month and we are not staying cool as cucumbers! )
19 weeks 5 days until Goofy....:woohoo:

Welcome plutopdx:cheer2:
Dave-- Are your wife's not eating with you two, since you said you and Robert were dining on the 16th? :rotfl2:
patsbill-- Sending pixie dust that your back is feeling better.
Kelley--- Great job on your 23 miler at that pace. I will be doing the half in Baltimore, but using it as a training walk so I am only going to do about a 15 minute pace.
Beth---So glad you were able to get your 18 miles done and doing it with a migarine is remarkable. Great job. The weather yesterday was so much better than on Sat. Doing Va beach this coming this weekend should be easy for you after doing the 18.
Kim--- Great job on your 12K in the heat.
gatorphipps---Riding 70 miles in 97 degree heat and hills, great job.
Start my 20 week training program today. The beginning will be the easy part, it will be when I get to those long miles that I will wonder what I have gotten myself into.

Robert and I are planning dinner at that Canadian Steak House at Epcot for the 16th of January, anyone else interested before I look at getting reservations?
Dave I would get an ADR (Advanced Dining Reservation) ASAP for LeCellier. You can always over estimate, but the more people you have the tougher it might be. This is a very popular (and, IMHO, good) restaurant. With my family of 6, we usually shoot for lunch reservations as early as the window opens for ADRs (180 days) or as soon as we know we are taking a trip. Better safe than sorry if you really want to try it.
Nah, TCU!
I guess gatorphipps sound a little better than hornedfrogphipps. At least you don't have to explain what a horned frog is.
ETA: I guess the Original Bill beat me to the horned frogs reference.
Thanks everyone for the pixie dust for the back. As I said, its something I've had to deal with most of my life. I am hoping, in the long "run", that consistant exercise and losing a lot of weight will help minimize the back issues. Thus, I have joined WISH as one means of trying to accomplish this.

I'm at work half an hour and already I have issues! UGH! :headache:
Anyway, I'll come back later and get caught up, I just wanted to post about my first post-surgery L/R.....
It was foggy Saturday morning. So foggy that I really thought I'd be safer on the TM. But then I thought, no, you big baby, get out there. So I did.
Here's my splits:
1) 14:00 (Waddling and babying right foot)
2) 14:55 (OK everything is creaky, but I waddled on)
3) 11:54 (Enough waddling! Let's take this baby out and see what she can do!)
The Bionic Foot held up pretty well. It was still a little sore, but I guess that's to be expected. A pathetic distance, but I'm happy to be back out there. :thumbsup2
Oh, and the fog made the newly paved road a little wet so I sounded like a duck, squeak squeak squeak, for the entire three miles. You'd be amazed how many people are up at 7:30am on a Saturday on bikes and walking. How embarrassing.

Sorry guys, things have been total LTO/WTO around here lately, but I have been getting my training in. Thursday was 2 mi and boot camp. Finished in 22:17. Friday was a rest day, then Saturday I went out for 12. Finished in 2:17:36 for an 11:28/mi pace. Tonight I'm shooting for 6 mi.
WWDave - just to clarify, if you and Erica are dining together you don't both need a card, one card gets you up to 10 people at your table a discount. But if you split up, the person with their name on the card is the only one who can use. We made our $65 back and then some when we were down for Minnie, and we still have ToT and the marathon to go.

Stephanie: I would have a doctor look at the 'bite'. Spider bites are not really that common, and it could be something else especially since she didn't notice it happen.
So, today will hopefully be stretch class ((((I need it!))) and then Pilates. I am really going to have to start moving though. I have a dozen errands and I have to take my dear boys with me. They start school tomorrow!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I am psyched!

Mel - I have found that I have been fusing plans together myself. Higdon, and Galloway, with a little bit of RW stuck right in there!!
Jackie - I am so sorry. I hope you foot is feeling better soon.
kristin - I am not one of the ones with mileage that high yet (at least not for this year) I have started mixing half water and half gatorade for my fluids during my runs and that has helped alot. If you are running for more than an hour they say you need some sort of replacement, but I don't know what you would be able to take with your food allergies short of taking a bag of actual food with you.
Jen - Your teachers actually come to your home to visit!! I wish ours let us know the day before that they were having a "meet your teacher" at the school!!
Lisa - I have found that if I start about 20 minutes before official sunrise that there is sufficient light to run and feel comfortable. Since I am a chicken about running in the dark I make sure to get started as soon as the firt rays of light hit the trail!!
Kelley - I know that the Galloway plan has people walk/run for 26 miles before a marathon, then a 3 week taper. Last year I followed the Galloway plan and did the 26. This year I won't be doing that, just because I didn't feel that it helped. I plan on running a 20, 12, 7, 23, 14, 8, 20,14, 12, 10, race. Or something along that line. It sounds like you should be fine!! Also, congrats to your son. I ran Cross Country in High School and LOVED IT!!
WW Dave - You can not get the dining plan with the discount for Annual Pass Holders. However, sometimes you can get a better deal without the Annual Pass discounts. For TOT I paid about 30 more for the package with dining, than I would have for just the room at the AP rate. I can't wait for dining in OCT!!
Kristi - Congrats on the workout!!
Beth - I can't believe you ran with a migraine. You are definatley one tough chick!!
Christa - Congratulations on your bike ride!! 70 miles, WOW!!
Stephanie - I wish I knew about spider bites. My son is allergic to ants and mosquitos, we don't know about bees yet because he hasn't had the unfortune of being stung yet. What does it look like?
Nancy - I used to worry about those long miles too when I first started training last year, but it gets better. By the time you get close enough to really worry about those run you have already done some pretty hefty running and those long ones don't seem so daunting anymore. I never would have believed I could say, "O only 10 miles this weekend, that's nothing!".
Judy - Congrats on your walk!! There's absolutely nothing pathetic about that distance, especially for someone who just had surgery on their foot!
Now here is my training for today. My schedule for this week was supposed to look something like this....
M - 3
T - 6
Th - 3
Sa - 7
It's an easy week after last weeks 21 miles. However, the bug people are coming over on Tuesday so I can't run tuesday morning. I have football practice for Michael Tue and Thur this week, and then we have another game on Sat. So my schedule has been all rearranged. I did my 6 today, I'll do 3 tomorrow night at Michael's practice, 3 on Thurs night at Michael's practice, and I guess 7 on the treadmill Friday (or maybe i can make it out to the trail). I did my 6 today in world record speed, seriously!! For me anyway!! 6 miles in 48:52. mpm 8:09!! I did have to stop twice because of these stupid little dogs that were REALLY aggressive. I mean they came after me with jogging stroller and all, and weren't scared a bit when I yelled at them. The second time (when I had to run back past) I called animal control, but as I was on the phone with animal control a police officer showed up. Looks like I wasn't the only one on the trail having a problem with the dogs!! Well... I have to go clean my house!! I have found it's much easier to clean and keep clean now that Michael is back in school!! I'll check back in later.

LTO totally the past 2 weeks and unfortunately Life cut into my training. I have done about 10 miles in the last 2 weeks and I can totally tell. It feels like I am back at square one - I managed to get in a 1 mile run today on the treadmill and my calves were burning - not as bad as when I first started running 2 1/2 months ago but I could definately feel it. Goes to show I need to keep at my training even if its a little bit of running throughout the week - this no running has gotten me back to the begining (I hope not because TOT is coming up quick!! YIKES!!!)
I did book a room for the 2 nights after the TOT run - funny but I still haven't booked a room for the actually night of the run!! So for the 28th and 29th we will be staying at Beach Club Villas - I am so EXCITED - and will be getting a $100 gift card for dining at check in. Except now I have been getting emails (2 an hour) from Disney Destinations with my confirmation # - I got about 28 of them right now - same reservation, same confirm #. Some one told me that Disney is aware of this glitch - lets just hope it gets fixed soon!!! I appreciate the confirmation email but 30 of them is a little much!! LOL
Happy training to all and please pray for pixie dust for me to keep up the motivation to get some training in because I can't afford another set back any closer to TOT!!!

I have a food question...
Now that my mileage is starting to get "up there", I am finding that I am VERY hungry while run/walking...I eat something before I head out, and carry water and a gel, but still feel so hungry..my stomach was even growling on Saturday! I tried eating more before going out, but then felt sick and moved much slower. So, any suggestions on what to eat before to keep me from being so hungry, or ideas of what to carry with me? I'm only up to 7 miles, and afraid that by 13 I'll have chewed up my shirt!
Thanks!

Hi everyone! Yes, Cam and I are still alive and well. Thanks for missing us. Sorry for the lack of presence here.
We did get out to the state park yesterday morning, early, for a run. I went a total of 6 miles, running 4 and walking 2. I finished in about 1:10. My splits ranged from 8:15 to 10:14 running and in the 15-16's walking. I felt good, but it was a steam bath out there.
Things are about to get "nutso" (a technical term) for me beginning tomorrow. My classes begin tomorrow evening. I have classes M-Th from 6 PM to 8:45 PM. I will also be working 20 hours a week at the Blood Bank of Delmarva where I've been full-time all summer. (Terri ~ you are right, full-time classes (4) and work, and studying, and team projects, and exams, mid-terms, finals.... it is all very HELLish.) I take solice in that fact that I only have two semesters to go to attain my MBA. Whoo Hoo! However my work is cut out for me.
I am signed up for the ToT 13k and for the Goofy in January. I will do all that is humanly possible to fit training into the mix of work, school, studying, and being an active and vital part of our family unit. This past fall, I did very little in most of those regards unfortunately. I ended up running the Goofy with about 9 substantive training days before the actual event (after my finals ended). My LR in training for the Goofy was 13.8 miles. Don't try this at home kids. :rolleyes1
I will post when I have time and probably lurk to keep or hold on to whatever sanity I might have left as time goes on. Please know you are all in my thoughts. Train hard, have fun and hydrate. I will see some of you in WDW for the ToT, I can't wait!
Happy training!

This is what has been suggested to my team by coaches and nutritionists.
Only in extreme cases should you not eat before (we had 1 person who would get literally sick to their stomach to near vomiting--so they stopped and were fine when they did that).
You have to train to eat before. So starting now is good. I've been having a banana and I do get a touch whoozy from doing so. But eventually you will work your way through it.
You also want to make sure for the long runs--that what you eventually decide on--is something you can replicate on event day.
In years past--I have done a whole wheat bagle about an hour or two before a run....
Yes if you wake up early, you are thinking...WHAT???
But you can wake up--eat--then go back to bed at training time.
So some of your "feeling sick" could be from eating it too close to the run.
I usually do a whole wheat something (english muffin, toast--but prefer that bagel) and a fruit.
You will be famished on race day if you don't eat something prior to heading out.
For a full--it is a good idea, to work snacks in addition to the energy whatevers you are consuming.
Our coaches put out animal cookies for us. On the 20 mile day we had orange slices...bananas at the end are good as well. (crucial to try and ingest one on race day to replenish potassium--they made me eat it when I was ready to vomit when I had the flu...but not that I could feel any worse..to not eat it could have made my crappy day turn into a real emergency).
The whole eating while exercising and before exercise stuff sounds so contraindicated--but for endurance athletes....it is a MUST DO!

Angie, I am in no way an endurance nutrition expert. In fact, just the opposite is true. I've read what Galloway and Bingham say about eating during training and it just doesn't work for me. So be very cautious about following my example. This is what I do for long walks (10+ miles):
One peanut butter sandwich and 20 oz Gatorade at least an hour before starting. (No dairy or white bread)
Carry 3 oz of water for every mile of the course, but I may or may not drink that much; depends on weather, how I'm feeling, etc. (I forget where I got that ratio, but it's based on my weight. Your requirement may be more or less.)
One Gu at mile 5, then every 4th mile thereafter (9, 13, 17...)
Potato chips at 15 or 16; maybe 12 oz Gatorade
Banana and maybe more chips at the end, followed by a nice healthy sandwich within 90 minutes of finishing.
I dehydrate really easily (hospitalized 6x). So something in my physiology may be why my needs don't really fit the experts recommendations. It took me a long time to find the food/drink balance that worked. Try starting with what one of the experts says then tweaking it for your comfort. It's pretty much trial and error, I'm afraid.
Good luck.

Thanks!
I know that during the full last year they gave out bananas, oragnes, gus, chocolate candy bars, and those daggum muffins that almost killed me. I keep trying to figure out a way to carry those things with me (minus the muffin) while I train so that my body is prepared for it come race day, but unless I wanna wear a back pack or train with my jogging stroller I have no where to carry all of this stuff. During training last year the only thing I took with me were my water bottle and my gus. I still haven't figured out what to do this year, but I am REALLY starting to dislike the gus. I want real food darn it!!

Happy Monday, WISHers!
It is a bittersweet day for me as DD started high school. I'm excited for her but sad she's growing up so quickly! Of course this morning was nuts with DS nearly missing his bus and forgetting his lunch. So I've already made one run to school. Hope that isn't an indication of what the whole year is going to be like!
After all the chaos and running around I wasn't able to start my run until 9:20. It was pretty hot so I tried to stay on shady streets, which meant running through some hilly neighborhoods. I was scheduled for a 40 minute run but ended up doing 44:29 (just because I wasn't back to my car yet!) I'm not sure how far it was, but I was trying to take a nice, slow pace.
Renee: how long does it take you to get to Shelley lake? We're in WF and sometimes it takes 40-45 minutes to get there. I have never seen the guy on stilts and I have no idea how to get to the Crabtree trail. Is it through that little underpass that goes underneath near the parking lot? It takes me 20-25 minutes going down Falls of Neuse (not during rush hour, of course!) I don't know any of the trails that branch off; I stick to just circling (and circling and circling) the lake. However, once my runs start getting long I may experiment a bit to ease the boredom.
Mel - I also have fused several plans together. I'm very happy with my plan!
Jackie - PD for your ankle!! DD and DS both got their soccer games in. DS got a complete game in before the storms; DD made it to half-time before it was called for lightning, so it counts. 2 wins - yay!
Kristin - I hate carrying things, so I usually set down my drink somewhere and run by it. Works very well for me.
Jen - Welcome back to the real world! Can't wait to hear about the trip!
Kelley - My friend who is an elite triathlete totally believes in running the full distance during training - she would cheer for your plan.
moon - I too am trying to slow down my pace! It is a lot harder than it sounds.
Vic - Definitely time to move outside. I ran outside today even though it was humid.
Kim - WTG on the 12K! (I had to mentally convert that to figure it out! 5K = 3.1, 10K = 6.2, ....)
Beth - WTG on the 18 miler! Whew!
Christie - Nice ride! My friend is trying to convince me to bike, but bikes are so darned expensive!
patBill - PD for the back!
plutodx - Welcome!
Lisa - Let's see - baby + homeschool + DH out of town + training = :scared1:
WWDave & Erica - Good luck with the "official" Goofy training!
Stephanie - Those spider bites sound nasty! Are you sure that's what they are? DS had a bump on his leg that hurt and looked like a bite, but turned out to be a staph infection.
Nancy - Good luck with the 20 week plan! Those long distances out there scare me to death!
Judy - Congrats on your first post-surgery LR!!
Leana - WTG with a 12 miler!
Dana - It is amazing how we have to squeeze in our running around everything else going on.
Tricia - Here's some PD for motivation! :wizard:
Angie - I find a Clif bar really gets me through a run without upsetting my stomach at all.
Happy training, all! :)

Good luck.
This actually sounds REALLY good!
the reason for the potato chips?
CARB and SALT!!!!
I do a salt packet on mile 20 day and during race day instead. But chips sound better.:rolleyes1

Have you incorporated a route that goes by your house or if you drive somewhere to run, then back to your car?
We will be doing that this year with our house. We can get a good 6-8 mile lap....and then just go by our house for the major snackies!
Renee: :scared1: about sums up where I am at right now. Baby has been the most cooperative today. Late start to homeschool day = :scared1: :scared1: b/c the girls just want to play. Tomorrow I am doing a rest day so should be more on target.

I was just going to ask where everyone was storing all this food for their long runs. But if you keep it in your car or your house and run past there on those miles then that makes sense. Couldn't see lugging a backpack with potato chips, gatorade, etc, etc with me on a run!! LOL

Hey WISH team! Things have been so crazy for me, but I wanted to pop over to say hi and check in. I have my first half marathon on monday at disneyland and I am so excited! I did my last LR on friday of 12 miles with an average pace of 12:04. But my knees are very sore now. I was going to run this morning, but thought I would give them another day. Any advice?
I am bringing my laptop to DL so I will try to check in and give a report after my race on monday.

IF they are sore, I wouldn't do a workout. If you didn't do a workout this week--it would NOT hurt you at all. But if you run when you shouldn't--it could hurt you.
If you have access to an elliptical trainer or a bike or exercise bike, I would do that instead if you really want to get a workout in.
Sore joints isn't a good thing if you haven't had an ongoing issue.

On Friday nights before my Saturday morning LWs, I drive my route and place the provisions (8 oz bottle of water or banana or chips, etc) at 3 mile intervals. I usually use fire hydrants or utility boxes as my locations.
Usually I stick a label on each item that says something like:
8/25/07
Please do not take this bottle.
It is a marathon training water stop.
The athlete will leave no litter.
Please leave her hydration. Thank you.
When I use the labels, nothing has been stolen. The day I didn't have time to make labels my mile 6 and 12 water were stolen from a 15 mile course. :headache: (I carry one spare 8 oz bottle in my pocket for this kind of emergency.)
I've been lucky that I don't end up carrying 4, 5 or 6 empty bottles all the way home. When I pass people in their yards I ask them to take my trash. They're happy to do it. Thank goodness.

Hey Team - Yes I am definately back in the real world, tho with all the crap in my life right now I would much prefer being in FantasyLand!!!!!!!!!!!!
My DD6 started school today, first grade. If you all remember my saga, we switched schools and daycare starting today. Oh wow, I was in tears. DD6 goes to daycare and then gets on the bus there since she is not old enough to stay home alone and get on the bus by herself. So we go into the new daycare and instant bad feeling. The director was out on a family emergency and the person there in the morning was rude and had no clue who we were. DD6 was so scared because of how we were "welcomed". Not cool at all. So when I finally let my girls stay there, I was instantly on the phone with the bus company since the daycare didn't know anything about her being there for before school care and when the bus would come. I got it all straightened out and called the daycare to "inform" them. Then later in the morning I called to talk to the assistant director and make sure everything was OK with my kids and tell her that we didn't feel good about the drop off on our first day. So not cool in my book!
So anyhoo.... YIKES i am supposed to start marathon training this week. I am so incredibly scared about this full marathon... like sick to my stomach scared about what I got myself into. I need to focus and just get at it. My TM and I will be getting quite personal over the next 20 weeks, I just hope it can hold up. I broke it last fall with all my 1/2 marathon training!
Judy - You were flying on that last mile. Hold her back Betsy so you don't hurt your "new" foot!!!!!
Dana - I am not sure if all classes do a home visit, but DD is in 1st grade and we are new to this school. I think it is kind of nice that the teachers try to meet the parents. And her class isn't that big, I think around 15 kids.
Howard - I toyed with the idea of getting my MBA, but man, it sure takes a toll on your life. Congrats on only 2 semesters left!!!!
OH... All you CDC'ers out there. I have a convention in Chicago in January and they sent out a postcard that I got today. Well it is a pic of downtown where all the bridges are.... I had to point out that I ran over THAT ONE!!! Ohhhhh.... better yet, in WDW I kept telling DH that "I ran on this road" and drove him nuts for the whole week!!! It was great fun!
Have a great day all!

Thanks!
NOTHING you do this week will make you any more ready for the Disney half.
I would recommend cross train in lieu of run--or WALK easy for the equivilant time of the run if you have any taper-energy that you must burn.
Make sure to ice this week.
What kind of pain are you feeling?
Any popping?
Does the outer part of your thigh (IT Band) feel tight. If it does, you might try massaging that (it will hurt--the nature of an IT band the little beast!)
Is it just achy!
Remember--NO RUN THIS WEEK WILL PREPARE YOU ANYMORE THAN YOU ALREADY ARE FOR THE DL HALF!!!! It is your cumulative training that gets you through it.

I want to join! klh-or (Karla) motivated me to begin walking training for the WDW half marathon so I've been working on it since February. I've always wanted to walk a long distance event and now I have company to push me along. She also referred me to this board and to join the club!
My longest walk was this last Sunday--5 miles in 90 minutes. I've been following the Weight Watchers half marathon walking program which has us walking 5 days a week and building up our distances. I'm going to switch to a 3/3/3/lsd program after this week, and do more intervals on my shorter days.

Welcome, glad you joined us. Just be warned that some people on here "Just Ain't Right". I'm one of the few normal ones.

Ok I'm gonna act dumb here, not a big stretch for me anyway, but some of you eat chips as you train and do marathons? I never thought about it but you get the salt and the carbs.
I ate several bananas during the Disney marathon, I drank the powerade at all the stops for the electrolytes.
Erica and I had fun shopping today after our workout. I have to wear suits now at work so I needed some stuff and she found lots of sales going on, even some Disney Jammies.

Angie – AHHH, food! The whole reason I run!:goodvibes TO EAT! :cool1: I ALWAYS eat a PB&J and coffee b/4 a LR and biking. But I also have trained my body to eat on the run…marathon bars, more PB&J if it is available….cookies..Trail races have the best food! Oh, on the ride this weekend they had HOMEMADE cookies! AHHHHH! But I digress….find food that works with your tummy and either carry it with you, buy it on the run, or use a gel…that is also a good option.
Kelley – It I EVER hear you say you are not an endurance athlete again….I will come out of the computer and kick your butt!;) 23 miles girl…need I say more!

Jen - Hope the 2nd day of school goes better.
Renee/Jeanne - If you take the path under Millbrook from Shelley Lake, it goes to North Hills Drive, then cross North Hills and it goes on to Crabtree. From there it goes past McDonalds and up Blue Ridge Rd for another two miles - absolutely gorgeous greenway trail. From the lake to the end and back is around 10 miles, and that doesn't even include a lap around the lake.
Renee - I think DD played about 10 minutes before they called our game, so we get to try again! She started her junior year today - talk about growing up...
Howard - Good luck this semester. Train when you can!
Kelley - Putting out all your snacks the night before is genius. I'm really grateful to be running with a group that puts out water and snacks for us.
Angie - I usually eat a Clif Luna bar before starting out, then do a Clif Gel every 5 miles. I carry water and Gatorade with me, but like I told Kelley, on the really long runs, our Galloway group provides fruit and other snacks like candy and pretzels.
Becky - Good luck at DL!
The ankle is wrapped and very sore. I have an appt Wednesday with my doc. He's out of the office until then; I refused to see anyone else since he's a runner and I want his advice on when I can actually train again! I'm trying really hard not to get depressed... :sad1:

I wish I had a way of putting snacks out on the course. Unfortunately I run on a trail and there aren't a whole lot of roads that intersect. I would have to drive down the actual trail, and let me tell you.... there are plenty of people who would not be happy about that!! ON YOUR LEFT!!

Jackie: OK, that's where I thought it might be. One last question: is it all trail or do you end up on actual streets. The thought of crossing Glenwood on foot scares me to death. How is the foot doing?
Christa: It's the City of Oaks event in Raleigh on Sunday 11/4. It starts at the fairgrounds on Hillsborough/Blue Ridge and goes through downtown Raleigh. Somewhere around Mile 11 the full veers off towards Umstead Park and the half returns to the fairgrounds. The full is quite a bit more difficult than the half because it covers some hilly and unpaved terrain. I don't know the link, but I'm sure you can easily Google it.

Total drive by, AGAIN.... I am really, really trying not to let the computer suck up so much time out of my life anymore.
So, I did my 3 miles today in 34:59.
I was going so good.
All set to try for another personal record on the last mile.
Then, with 2 laps to go, the lady from KidStop was flagging me down.
My very potty trained son decided to pee in his pants rather than stop playing & using the bathroom! So, I had to go scoop him up and leave.
After MUCH calculating, I determined the 2 laps I missed were appox. .29 miles. So, we got home, gave him a bath. Then I made him ride his bike with me while I finished up!
So, it wasn't quite the same as sticking with it straight thru - but I got 'er done.

Kristi - Yay for getting it done, that's the most important part. Don't you hate it when you know your kid is potty trained and they pull something like that?! My DS2 does the same thing, he never has accidents, even stays dry at night, but every once in a while if he is determined to not stop playing he just goes in his pants. Makes you wanna throttle them!!

Well, last week was fantastic as far as exceeding my goals goes. Saturday I walked 4 miles in 63 minutes. I jogged one minute for each mile. That was good. I also began logging my foods, and actually paying attention to it. I want to be in the best shape I can be, both for the 1/2 and for my future.
This week I'm logging 12 miles walking and an hour of cardio/strength by way of a new DVD. You know, it's going to be more than 12 miles, come to think of it. I've also added walking a mile during my lunch break on sunny days. I walked today and that was a great idea. Month-end is stressful at work, so walking during lunch was my bright idea to get out and de-stress, even if it's only a few minutes.
That's it for my plans for this week. :yay:

Nucpharm29- My kids and I have had spider bites before and they do hurt more than itch! Usually if you look closely you'll see the holes where the 'fangs' went in. I always think it looks like someone took a staple puller and pinched me with it.
First time I got one I thought it was poison ivy starting up because it looked like a blister on the back of my knee. It really hurt to walk. I worked in the hospital ER and asked one of the docs about it and he said it was a spider bite. I had been working in the yard and pulled up some old wood and the thing must have bit me then. My one DD seems to like playing in wood piles:sad2: and she's had 3 or 4 bites in her 7 yrs.

Good morning everyone.
Summer fun is now officially over! I've been MIA due to travel and a media blackout to avoid Harry Potter spoilers.
Let me just start by saying that extended vacations and training schedules are not very compatible.
I'll outline my training partly to illustrate my lack there of and partly to instill a small amount of jealousy in those that didn't just get back from 3 weeks of Disney fun:
Vero Beach: 4 days stayed; 1 x 4 miles; 1 x 3 miles
POFQ - 6 days - 2 x 4+ miles
Beach Club - 6 days - 2 x 5+ miles
Contemporary - 2 days - no runs
So that's a whopping total of 6 runs and less than 25 miles in 3 weeks when you add travel days. No problem. I'm only scheduled for a 17 mile LR this week! :scared1: :scared1:
Well, what I lacked in mileage was made up for in memories and experiences.
Among the most fun was running on the beach at Vero. Truly a great experience for someone that hasn't had the pleasure of running on a beach before.
Beach Running Pros vs Cons
Pros
- The scenery is fantastic.
- You can run barefoot.
- If you don't like the running surface just move up or down the beach a few feet.
- If you get hot, just splash through the surf a little.
- Even at 100 degrees, the ocean breeze feels great.
- It's fun to watch the little crabs scramble out of the way as you run by.
- You can pretend you're a Bay Watch lifeguard.
- Post run jump in the ocean to cool down.
Cons
- I just about wore the skin off my big toes.
- My calves hurt like hell for 2 days after each run.
- Could be tough on the IT band due to the slope of the beach.
- Makes me sad that I can't do it more often.
O.K this has gone on long enough. Just one more parting thought. I now have a new and totally legitimate reason to skip a run:
I can't run tonight. I ate too much at the buffet.

Just stopping by...
I finally got in to see the chiro last night and he confirmed that my left hip is about 1/2 inch higher than my right and that is probably the root of my hip flexor/quad strain. He got it back in place and I will continue to go to PT to work on stretching everything out. I was able to run 90 sec intervals last night without pain, but oh boy my left leg is weak! It's going to take me awhile to get back to where I was when I got injured in the first place (in July) but I am confident that I will be able to follow the run-walk training plan by the time I need to start it in October.
My DH and I decided that it is time for us to invest in a treadmill. I am already signed up for Donald and the Indy mini-marathon, so clearly this isn't a passing phase for me. :) I would rather make monthly payments on my very own treadmill than monthly payments to the gym/childcare. I just can't stand the thought of dragging my kids to the gym in the cold, dark winter again this year. Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions. Please share your good/bad reviews!

Good morning all!
I completed week 2 of the Hal Higdon marathon training. I ran 7 miles on the TM on sunday b/c of the heat and humidity here. Unfortunately I had quite a problem with my IT band during the last mile. It was screaming and the pain came in waves. So, just when I thought I'd have to stop, it would stop hurting and I'd keep going. Then it would start again. I did complete 7 miles and got some ice. I've been stretching, icing and rolling it. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do? I will try not to run on the TM as much as possible as that seems to make it worse. But that may get difficult.
WWDave: a few years back, I believe it was Aspen CO that had Sal A. Mander on the ballot!!! What a hoot. I'd back Donald Duck. He says things I only think!
meghan74: Ow, I do hope the flexor/quad problems continue to get better and congrats on getting a TM!
Optimator: good luck on the 17 mile LR!!
cdn_gal_eeyore: WTG on the 6 miles!! Great job!
Kiena: did you get up to see the lunar eclipse this morning? How was it?
Rachael: AWESOME job on the walking! You should be really pleased!!
Jackie: so sorry to hear about your ankle! Let us know what the doc says! Can you do anything at all? Can you put any weight on it?
I hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning Guys.
I seem to not ever get on the computer long enough to read through all the posts I miss. I have to do something about that. :surfweb:
I did squeeze in a LW on Saturday -- 6 miles:woohoo:
Have a great day guys -- gotta run -- literally and figuratively.:rotfl:

Good morning WISHers.....nice to 'see' everyone. I did get some cross training in yesterday. I did 45 minutes of stretch and then 60 min of Pilates. It was a workout and a half! All the muscles that weren't sore from the 18 miler are NOW!
I have been considering skipping pump class this week since I have a 1/2 marathon on Sunday. I am really tired right now, and don't need the extra 'workout'!
I will just try to get my runs in, nice and slow!

Martha- The eclipse was truly awesome! My 11 yo DD wanted to come out and run with me. It was still dark here when we got up and the moon was already about 1/4 covered. We ran/walked for over an hour! We watched it until it was totally covered and appeared to be coming back. By that time it was sinking over our horizon and the sun was coming up. DD went back to bed when we got in.
Optimator- Loved your pro/con list! Have you finished Harry Potter?
Meghan74- Hope you get some relief soon!:wizard:
Windwalker- No, a smoking section in a restaurant is worse than a peeing section in a pool because I can continue to imagine that no one is peeing in the pool in which I am swimming but I can't imagine that no one is smoking in the restaurant in which I am eating. Perception is reality! :rotfl2:

Greetings -
I didn't get up until 6:00am this morning. Thus, no training. However, I do intend to do it as soon as I get home. A person can't come home from work at 5:00pm, do barn chores, put down cedar mulch and trim two bushes, shovel item #4 for an hour, go to the grocery store, come home and make dinner...and expect to get up at 4:15am the next day.
Vic - My AmphiPod! Geez.  It didn't work out anyway. I couldn't even handle a banana.
sasparillo - :welcome:
WWDave - Are you going to believe everything Vic says? ;) I never thought of eating chips either. Cam did tell me to carry some salt packets, which I did. And I took one while we were waiting to get to the starting line at the Half this year. I'm glad I did! Can you imagine if I didn't? Oy! To answer your YARC QOTD, no, it is not the same. No one ever died from pee in the pool. :guilty:
Jackie - Excellent idea, waiting for your runner doctor. :thumbsup2 I swear I am not going to any more doctors unless they are endurance athletes. "Normal" people just don't understand. They think the answer to everything is "stop doing it". Umm, I don't think so.
Kristi - OK I can appreciate you not wanting the computer to take up too much of your life, but, well, it's no fun without you. :guilty: YAY on the run last night!
Mike - Ohhh there you are! THREE WEEKS at WDW??? I am positively lime green with total envy! Glad your back, your Baywatch life guard, you.
I'm really missing some people around here...Cam, Howard, Carrie, MSDave, Melissa, Kristi... Guess everyone's busy.... :rolleyes1

Ok, so during yesterday's wog - before the peeing incident (I see a trend here with pee...) - I was thinking of certain WISHers during certain songs.
Carrie - Ok Go - Here We Go Again ;)
Cam - Tim McGraw - Live Like You Were Dying
Christa - Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me
On the way home I decided I need a Judy song!
Maybe I could put the Star Wars theme on for SWDave:yoda: ... or a song about Brazil or something.
And I have a ton more WISHers to put a song to!
(the things I come up with during my 45 min. commute!)
Oh, and I had to edit my siggie. My boyfriend is one of the judges on a new reality tv show this fall.
Don't get me started on how I HATE so-called reality tv - but if John is on there every week - I'll be watching!

Well TEAM I went to Denver last night for my first Team in Training meeting and I must say it was quite the tear jerker. They had a 5 year leukemia survivor speaking and he gave of alittle feel of what cancer patients go through. Almost got some XT in today, but notwithstanding a diligent effort, I could not get my shoes tied due to back spasms kicking in. I realize that strollers, etc. are not allowed at the ToT and marathon events, but how about a cane? Maybe I could break out the walker again and put some racing slicks on it (maybe incorporate it into a costume for ToT anyway). Its a good thing I have loafers for just such occassions.
I am an ABC girl - anything but country.
Wait a minute. There is some good country, especially the old stuff. Like: "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy" and "She got the coal mine and I got the shaft." Don't write off all country based on the newer pop/country stylings.
Good job training everyone. Try to get in an extra step or two for me (though I guess it won't really count). If nothing else, I hope to map out tonight my training plan of attack for the next 20 weeks.

Hi, WISHers!
So sorry to those with injuries -- patsbill, Jackie et al! Sending some PD your way!
My xt today has consisted of weeding all the flower beds, dead-heading all the flowers, vacuuming all the baseboards and washing all the wood floors. I've got to polish the wood floors and I think that will do it for today. Not as much fun as cycling, but definitely needs to be done!
Can't believe the ToT is now officially LESS than 2 months away! :scared1: I know I'll be ready; not sure about DD. I've got to get her out tonight somehow.
Happy training, all! :)

Welcome, glad you joined us. Just be warned that some people on here "Just Ain't Right". I'm one of the few normal ones.
Then I will fit right in!
That was a good walk 5 miles in 90 min, sounds like you are well on the way. I was wondering what that 3/3/3/LSD program was?
Most walking programs I've read suggest you be able to walk 3 miles 3 days a week, and then a long, slow distance day on the weekend to build up your distance. Your basic maintenance is 3/3/3/4, and 12-16 weeks out from the marathon you start adding to the weekend number. I don't know if that's what most people do because I've never done this before! :goodvibes

Hi, everyone! I am so sorry I have been MIA. It has been a combination of LTO and WTO with some "emergency" proceedings. The crazy work schedule, coupled with getting 3 people ready for back to school (oh, okay, I admit, Howard got himself ready ;) ) I just had to help get DDturning19thisweekend back to campus on 8/17 for band camp and then moved into her dorm on 8/22; and DS14 needed all sorts of clothes, etc. DD had her first day of sophomore year college classes today and DS had orientation for high school with classes starting Thursday. He's been busy with marching band since 8/6, so at least he saw some familiar faces and knew most of the layout of the school
It is so good to see so many people reporting in on their training. I just cannot believe the number of miles our WISH team is racking up every week. In some respects I am really looking forward to getting back to those 20+ total mile weeks!
Training has been woefully inconsistent for me. I've at times resorted to a 33 minute leslie sansone walk& jog DVD to get in some activity and I have continued with the crunches and pushups every day. We got in a short LW/R Sunday, as Howard mentioned. I only had time for 4.5 miles but they were all at or below 15:00 pace despite the heat and lack of training. I am truly dreading the longer training sessions for the full, but am glad to come here and feel re-motivated and re-invigorated.
I just signed up for a 25 minute core strengthening class on Thursday nights and a 50 minute muscle pump class on Saturday mornings, so that even if I only have time for one or two wogging sessions a week, I can still look forward to some non-impact sessions. Our fitness center re-opened yesterday with all sorts of great new equipment. Looking forward to checking it out tonight.

Lisa - Thanks for your help! My knees feel mostly achy more than anything. No popping, pulling, etc. I have been doing alot of stretches today and I took my girls out with me for a 1.5 mile walk. I walked slow, at one point I jogged to catch up to my 6 year old and my knee hurt. I think I will get out and walk some more this week, but no running. I just hope all is well by the race this weekend. Again, thanks for your encouragement!!

I did 36 min on the TM yesterday, just an easy pace close to 14 at R4/W2. Foot is holding up ok (thanks for asking, Vic :) ) though a little miffed about not getting a full 2 weeks off. I did manage to wear real shoes to work today :thumbsup2 instead of my old Saucony's.
Jen...you'll do great! I think we're pretty evenly matched. We both hit sub 60 min on the 5 miler about the same time. I'm going to do tempo runs at R3/W2 on Wed to see if I can squeak out some more speed, but it will be up to my foot on that one.

LTO for me for awhile. I have an endoscopy tomorrow...going to ask for minimal sedation so I can still plan to do my run tomorrow night. DH doesn't think it's a good idea (he's had endoscopy before), but I'm not known for being a good patient :rolleyes1 And I'm working on the side, doing some medical writing that's keeping me busy in the evenings. Hey all, still no training for me, but I am thinking about it. I got an email from John Bingham and in it you can sign up for a free training plan for the Rock N Roll Marathon which just so happens to be the same day as WDW. The plan is pretty much the MFM plan from what I can tell, but this allows me to log my workout and sends me email reminders about my training. Right now with my crazy life, I need all the help I can get!!!! So after tonight I should be able to start doing something.
Right now I am home alone with the Piano tuner. My DD6 is taking lessons through school and I thought it was time to get rid of the TWANG in the piano!!! Speaking of school, DD is doing OK except she got a bloody nose on the way home tonight. It happened on the bus and she was quite upset about it. So now I am soaking her clothes because they are new school clothes and she thinks they are ruined. DD4 starts pre-school tomorrow. Did I mention that my babies are growing up????
Mel - What is the endoscopy for? I think we are well matched also. I hope I can run with you at least for part of the full. It would be nice to have someone to talk to. I plan to do some speedwork also, if my foot allows. I also hope that my additional weight loss will lighten my steps up!!!
Cam - It's good to see you posting!!!!!
Monte - That is wonderful that you are running for someone. I run for my mom because she can't. She has had cancer twice, a teeny stomach and one lung. But she is a fighter and my running to stay healthy gives her great joy. I was very inspired by all the TNT runners that put pictures and saying on their singlets. Good luck with your fundraising!!!!
Kristi - ABC girl... HAAAA that is too funny. Oh by the way, I ordered those DVD's and they came when I was on vacation. I can't wait to dig into them for some cross training. I kept forgetting to thank you for the post about them!!!!
SWDave - Hey, where are you? Let me know when you are around and I will give you my review of Pop Century!
OK, I gotta get something done. Or not, DH and the kids are gone so I guess I could be lazy if I wanted to!

MY training has been horrible:sad2: , DH is doing awesome:woohoo:
My back is not getting better, in fact it's getting worse DH told me if I don't call doctor this week he will take me there himself :scared:
On top of that came down with double ear infection, cold, cough got antibiotcs last night after trying to fight it myself - the old fashioned way with oj and vit C for 2 weeks!! And it's 100 degrees here. OK enough complaining and I will call doctor about my back, first thing Friday morning when I get back from my trip.

Angie -- I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. Sending you pixiedust:
Jen -- poor kid! I hope she's doing better, though I'm glad school was good today.
Got to the gym tonight for a brief TM session -- 5 minute warmup and then 40 minutes alternating between walking at 4 and jogging at anywhere from 4.2-4.8. Trying to build up endurance for running, even very slowly. I jogged for 1/2 mile straight tonight and it felt like I was in slow motion but it still felt good to be able to jog that long. I have such a long way to go to do considerably better than last year's marathon, but at least I'm starting to worry about it more than 3 months out. :lmao:
Total mileage this week:
Sunday -- 4.5
Tuesday -- 3.11 (291 calories burned)

Jackie/Bill—take care of yourselves. So sorry about the injuries and hope you can get back on track soon.
Renee—polishing floors not nearly as much fun as cycling?? I beg to differ! :)
Cam—great to hear from you. Are you sure Howard really was able to get himself ready for school? :) Glad to see you’re making it with all the things you have going on right now.
Mel—good to hear that the foot is holding up. And what’s wrong with wearing running shoes to work? Doesn’t everyone do that?? :confused3 Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow.
Jen—Hi! Glad you’re doing well. Sorry about DD’s bloody nose episode. That couldn’t be too fun.
Angie—wow, you’re falling apart! :) Hope you feel better soon, and it’s good to hear from you.
Training’s going pretty well for me; it’s just too stinkin’ hot, but I know it will be getting cooler soon. I have an 8 and 18 miler scheduled for this weekend, so I know I'll really be able to see how well (or not so well) I'm doing after those runs. Work’s been busy, and we’ve had some “episodes” with Hines lately causing him to have about 3 trips to the vet in the last 3 weeks. He’s fine now, and I’m sure Krista can elaborate, but it’s been interesting.
Keep up the great work everyone. I know I missed a ton of people, so HI to everyone else. Have a great hump day!

Morning team--total drive by from me as well. I'm headed to the gym in about 10 minutes for work and then a workout this afternoon. I'm in the last two weeks of training before taper and higdon's mid-week workouts are killing me. I just can't find the time for 2 5 milers and a 10 mile run during the week. Especially THIS week! Oh well, I'll get some miles logged, even though they might be less. I did get 5 miles (split up) done on Monday.
Angie--PD for your back!:wizard: Bobby is right, get yourself to the doctor!
Cam/Howard--great to hear from you!

SWDave - Hey, where are you? Let me know when you are around and I will give you my review of Pop Century!
Welcome back Jen!
SWDave is on a family cruise this week. Lucky duck! I would love to hear your Pop Century review. I would love to stay there, but frankly, I am a little scared. I hear horror stories about the noisy buildings and pool, the flushing toilets and thin walls and worst of all the rock hard beds. Is any of this true? The beds were fine at POFQ and Coronado, but I wouldn't go back to Coronado. How would the PC beds compare?
Lisa, nice to see you posting again! Good luck on the Goofy training and everything else you have on your plate.
Mel, glad your foot is holding up for you!
Angie, PD on your back! I hope you can find the cause of the pain.
Oh, Steve, hope Hines is doing better! Wow, 8 and 18 this weekend. What plan are you using. Is Columbus the 3rd weekend in October?
Hi Stephanie, love the new picture of the kids! Yes, those midlength midweek runs are tough to get in. I only have 8 tomorrow, but I think I will try and get up at 5 tomorrow and just get it done, be exhausted for the rest of the day, but it will be done.
I had my first massage yesterday since I started MCM training and did I ever need it. I was one big ball of knots, especially in my back and gluts. I am going back tomorrow in hopes that I can continue with the LR's without pain.

Good morning everyone! I'm so sorry to read about the ailments going around. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: to everyone to get better and back on track!
I did get in a 3-mile run yesterday on the brook path in our town. It has been quite dry here lately so it's been nice to run outside. The IT band did not bother me. Maybe if I stay off the TM I can make this work. Along with stretching multiple times during the day and ice.

No training to report for yesterday. I took a complete rest day, since Pilates and my LR caught up to me. I was really tired yesterday, so a day of rest was needed! I am planning on 5 miles tonight.

Total :drive: post -- sorry; I've got lots of running around to do today!
Somehow that cold is being passed around this virtual community (I've heard of computer viruses, but really!) and I'm now hosting it. I debated about taking the day off, but got out and did 4 (hilly) miles. I almost ditched the last half mile as I passed my car but sucked it up and finished. Hopefully working out will NOT keep this cold lingering around any longer than it would have!
Hope all the injuries are healing and that everyone has a great training (or rest) day today!

Today I stopped and reset the timer after my warmup, then started it again for my run, stopped and reset it again for my cooldown. When I came in I just deleted my warmup and cooldown laps. I'm sure there is a better way than what I'm doing, but it appeared to work. I just like to walk 5 minutes before and after so I wanted to use the timer for that, but not count it towards my run.
It was closer to my Nike+ this second time. The Garmin had me at 3.01, 10:50 pace, the Nike+ at 3.18, 10:22 pace - course I didn't stop them at the same exact second.
My best pace on the Garmin this morning was 9:20. I can live with that!
How is the weather going with everyone? It rained on me today - felt good and no 100 degree temps.
DH had some tests done yesterday. They think he has a stomach ulcer. I really hope he gets out soon to run for RFTT. I'm getting a tad worried as the date gets closer...

Colleen
Let me first say that I have stayed at BC(2x), AKL(2x), BW, Poly, WL, FW, all of the moderates, and ASMu, in addition to Pop. Honestly, I love Pop. Never had a problem with hearing flushing toilets (just close the bathroom door when we go to bed) and I guess we've lucked out because DH and I were there with Pop Warner and hardly ever saw them. I think a lot depends on who your neighbors are. I thought WL and BW were much noisier myself. I love Pop's over-the-top icons, and the lake setting is beautiful. I've always gotten a lakeview - the only place in WDW where you get a water view for a standard price! The busses have always been timely, and while the food court isn't my favorite, it is certainly adequate. The rooms are a little smaller than a moderate, and the beds are only full-size. I don't remember them as being particularly hard or uncomfortable. I imagine summertime could be really crowded, but I usually go during less busy times and have had no problems. I highly recommend Pop!!

Colleen and anyone else... POP CENTURY Review. Overall it was OK. The smaller rooms were not a problem, the beds were OK, The flushing toilets were no worse than any other hotel. We didn't have a pool view, which we were glad about since I can imagine that would get loud. We did however have maintenance using a weed wacker at 7am several mornings outside our room. They happened to be the mornings we were sleeping in. We did have rude neighbors, but you can't blame the hotel for that. I am not sure I would ever stay at this resort during the summer or high volume times. Overall the other guests were quite rude and manners were not present at all. Again, not the resorts fault, but it did make things not so fun at times.
The food court had a good selection, however they were very slow and messy. Like I said, the guests staying while were we there were lacking manners, and the food court was completely filthy every day we went there. We always took our stuff back to our room or somewhere else because of this. Also, the busses were incredibly slow. We waited close to 45 minutes twice for a MK bus. I read on the some other boards that there were a lot of complaints about Pop last week, so I think something was just not right.
Over all I really liked the theming and so did my kids. It was a nice resort and I may stay there again, I will just have to be more choosey about the time of the year I stay there.

Jackie/Bill—take care of yourselves. So sorry about the injuries and hope you can get back on track soon.
Steve--Coming from a Steelers fan, you don't know how much that means to me and inspires me to get back at it. Wait a minute though, if Jerome Bettis can lie about a fake injury, maybe ... no never mind, I know a WISH teammate would be sincere.
Steve, I'll also share with you my brush with fame as to the Pittsburgh Steelers. I wrestled at Boston College while Art Rooney (don't recall if it was III or IV) was also on the team.

We are relatively new at Disney experience compared to most of you. But here is my take.
Our first time was at the Yacht Club. This was the best of all, except the restraunts in the hotel were extremely expensive. This was before we discovered Disney Dinning Plan. But everything was first rate.
Our second was the Boardwalk. We liked this the least. The room was nothing special and we decided after that experience we would try the moderate resorts. There was nothing really bad except that the Buss for the half didn't show up till 4 am and Erica and a girlfriend had to stand in the freezing cold for almost an hour before the buss finally came.
The Coranado was next. There was only one problem but it was a bigone and we discovered it wasn't just the Coronado that had the problem. Our roomkey park pass card stopped working several times. The first we had just ate a hundred dollar dinner and were told our card had no more DDP meals on it. This was our first night of a ten day stay. Three times my key had to be remade and twice for Erica. Once she couldn't get into Epcot and had to be issued a paper pass. I was a bit pissy since I had spent like $3500 for this trip. The Pepper Market at the Coranado was a waste. But the Myan grill was first rate. The room was comfortable and the grounds were nice.
We are staying at the Swan this time since we like the convience of staying in the Epcot area but not enough to warrent the $350+ a night rate for the Boardwalk or more for the other resorts. I'm hoping the Swan will be a pleasent experience.
Minnie, great news on the MBA.
I did my regular 4 mile walk this morning. I hope the heat breaks soon so I can get back to speed work.
Have an awesome day y'all.

Hey everyone! This week is shaping up to be lesser mileage so far, but I'm getting in what I can. Monday I ran 2.75 miles to the bike shop (to pick up my repair), and then walked the same way back, which took me more than twice as long as it did to get there! I sure wouldn't be beating the sweepers if I had to walk with a bicycle in tow, that's for sure. Last night I got in a 3 miler on the TM mostly at 5.7 mph, with a couple random 1-minute spurts of 7.2 mph thrown in for "fun". Also did 25 min on the elliptical, and 10 minutes on the stepmill. Weirdest thing...it took me less time (10 min) to rack up '1 mile' on the stairs than it usually takes me to run that distance. Are vertical miles shorter or something?
Sadly, I pulled an '86-year-old-grandmother' move last night and slipped in the shower. Nothing dire, but I'm definitely going to be sporting a bruise on my other hip to match the one left over from my bike spill a couple of weeks ago. I swear, I'm not feeble, just clumsy from time to time...
Stephanie-Good luck with working in training during the business!
Martha, great job on the run! I sympathize with your IT Band issues - hope they keep improving!
Beth, congrats on the rest day! I know that, personally, that's one of the hardest things for me to do - to actually make myself take a day off and recharge. The pedi sounds fun, too!
Renee, wow, I'm impressed at you running with the cold! The dedication is awesome, but make sure you take it easy if you need to, y'hear?
Kim, great job sticking with the training! Toughness builds character, right? :)
Shan, good luck figuring out the Garmin.
Minnie, congrats on your degree!!! :woohoo:
Thanks to everyone for the Pop reviews, too...still trying to figure out where I'm going to stay for the marathon, and the value resorts are the only ones even remotely within my tentative price range. Good to hear they're not lousy!
Keep on the great work everyone!

Last night I stopped at the grocery store and as I was walking away from the register this lady with a cart got in front of me. No problem, I followed her for a second towards the door, when a voice behind me said "Now don't lift anything. Wait right here with the cart and I'll get the car." So I turned around with a big smile and said "OK, thanks!" It was Robert Vaughn! I recognized him right away, but naturally couldn't think of his name. He laughed and put his hand on my shoulder and said "OK, you wait too, and I'll go get your car." And we laughed and went out merry ways.
COOL! :cool2:
For those of you too young to realize who he is....

Judy: Funny story about Robert Vaughan....yes, I am definitely old enough to remember him. In fact when I lived in NYC, I used to always see his side-kick David McCallum (Ilya Kuryakin) doing the most mundane things (like shopping in Woolworths) on the lower East side. That was one of the joys of living in NYC....you would see celebrities all the time and it never phased you. Secretly, it did, but ego made you pretend not to notice! That's just the NY way.

Suzy--WTG! Congrats on the Degree!
Moon--so sorry about the fall!
Work was fine today--busy day at the gym--but after noon, no one--guess it's the kids naptimes and the mommies are all done with their tennis games. Anyway, got 5 miles in after work on the TM. I tried out the TM with it's own flat screen TV--really weird for me--thought I might get motion sick being that close to the TV screen and the running motion. But on the positive, it took me so long to figure out what channel and volume I wanted the darned thing on, the time went by quick!;) Have a great night all--time to go feed the troops!

Judy - I hate to admit it, but I have no idea who you are talking about. :confused3 But I don't get out much.
Cleaned my bike really good, including the chain...oooooh, it was nasty. Put my run off until tonight b/c of work/children/ect....but now it is thundering (and still around 97) so I don't know if I will get it in.
Supposed to do an 80 mile ride this weekend, but I am going to be in the mountains of GA....my coach told me to get in 5 hours b/c all the hills will slow me down. 5 hours on a bike...ouch!:rolleyes1

Judy - I guess I'm old. I was impressed!
Moon - Hope you're not too sore from the fall!
Steve/Krista - Hines isn't eating socks again, is he?
Saw the doctor this morning. It's not a sprain, it's an inflamed bursa, which I guess makes it bursitis? Told me to take Aleve 3x/day, ice it every night, stay off it until Tuesday when I'm supposed to call him and let him know how it feels. Then he may clear me to start walking on it, and after another week or so may be able to start running on the TM with no incline. I'm OK to use the bike as long as it doesn't hurt the ankle. He thinks I should be back on track for the marathon in November, but my 5K with the Carolina Hurricanes ain't gonna happen!

Jackie: I'm sorry to ask this again, but if you responded I must have missed it.
If I take the trail that goes under Millbrook, will I have to cross any major streets? If it's 10 miles, I could do it once, go around the lake and then do it again for my long 22 mile walk.

Jeanne - You'll cross North Hills Drive, but it's not busy at all. You go under Glenwood Ave and don't even realize it. After you pass McDonalds you parallel Blue Ridge Rd for a while, then the greenway veers off for a couple of miles. It's almost exactly 5 miles from the boathouse at Shelley Lake across the dam to the end of the trail, so we go out and back for 10 miles, then do some variation of it again when we're doing longer mileage. I'll try to PM you a copy of a really cool greenway map I got off the N&O website.

You and I have gone back and forth in the last many months about your graduate studies, and all I can say is I'm very pleased for you. Setting a long term goal and then getting it is a testament to you, especially given what you've said about a few folks not understanding what you were going through. Many of us certainly know, been there, done that, so congratulations, you've done very well and are justifiably proud.
Jackie
Sorry about the bursitis. Myself, I fight that on my left hip, and do lots of stretching, every day, multiple times a day, to keep it from getting too troublesome. Best to you.
Howard My Man
Good luck with the coming semester. Year 1 is mentally much tougher. Year 2, I'm not sure that it actually is easier, but it seems so. Before you know it you'll be standing in line to get the degree in a gown with chevrons on the sleeves and a hood.
I have been mia for a while, and I expect this to continue until nearly Christmas. Classes at Babson start tomorrow and I have a full load of sophomores in 3 core finance classes. I also will be traveling down to Sloan/MIT to teach 1 intermediate finance course. All are T-TH courses, so lots of time in the car and lots of time in the classroom. After 10 good years here it's very exciting to be going someplace different and new. I get restless easily, with a longest time anyplace since college of 5 years. 10 seems forever, and I'm really looking forward to my time at MIT. If this could become a regular thing I'd be especially pleased.
Training? Pretty good actually. I'm doing the Higdon 18 week intermediate schedule, and this is week -2 of his 18 week plan. I did 9 sunday, 3 yesterday, and 5 today, and felt strong in spite of what new englanders call heat. I'm running the BAA half marathon on October 7, so I'll get a good indication or my fitness level. My plan is to run it as a training run, perhaps 10 minutes per mile. Of course, at 8 am on race day all rationality will disappear, so we'll see what the result is.
Plus on Sunday I'll be at the Buffet Show on my birthday, with my lovely bride, my employed 22 year old daughter, and great friends.
Is this a great country or what?

Becky -- :woohoo: for improved knees! Take it easy and save them for the big day!
Craig -- it is so nice to see you here! We've missed you terribly this summer. The next few months sound like they'll be insanely hectic for you, so I just hope you have some awesome music for all that driving! May I recommend some by one of my all time favorite artists, Jimmy Buffett? Have I mentioned how jealous I am that you are going to the show? ;) Howard and I had a -- ummmm. . . let's see, how to describe it? "INTERESTING" experience at the Philadelphia show last year. :lmao: I can't imagine your birthday could get any better than what you have planned with your lovely wife and fully-employed sweetheart of a daughter! Have fun!
Krista & Stephen -- Have I mentioned that I am worried about Hines? Is he doing okay now? What happened? I am severely traumatized at any prospect of a sick pup. Cali is at my feet by the way, having just jumped up to give me quick puppy kisses. :cloud9:
Sorry to all I've missed. I am off to do crunches, pushups and a 33 minute walk/jog DVD before Howard decides I must go to sleep. I guess all my whining about being tired all the time is a bit annoying. :rolleyes1

Jackie, it's too bad you will miss your 5K, but good news about the marathon! Did you hear that my boyfriend (Helio - as if you could forget ;) ) is going to be on Dancing With the Stars. :cool1: My oldest absolutely LOVES that show and now I'll have a reason to watch, too. Tell Annie that her heart may belong to Marco, but in the off season she should support any IndyCar driver who brings much needed publicity to our series.
I don't have any training to report, again. Went back to the chiro and he put my hip back in place again. He thinks that it should hold the adjustment better after a couple more visits. I hope he is right because I feel great for about 24 hours and then it clearly slips out of place again and causes my pain to return. I keep reminding myself that I don't need to start serious training for Donald until October and that I have time to get ready to train. So frustrating!

Good morning WISH team! :surfweb:
Trying to wake up this morning and thought I'd see how everyone is doing. I managed to get in 44 minutes yesterday. I was stupid enough to run outside. It has been dry here and the brook path has been conducive to nice runs. Unfortunately, although dry, the temp was quite hot and I shouldn't have run outside. Oh well. I'm trying to stay away from the TM. I'll try the indoor track for a 3 mile run today.
Creativebeth: ooooo! A spa pedicure! I like the way you think!! Not only do you give yourself a rest day, you treat yourself to something wonderful.
Renee: rest if you need to! You must get over this cold soon!
Shan: :wizard: for DH getting better soon. My DH was diagnosed with an ulcer years ago and he took that medicine that heals them. He hasn't had any trouble since.
Minnie: CONGRATULATIONS on finishing your Masters!!! :cool1: It really feels good, doesn't it!!! :cheer2:
nepatsfan: what's your prediction for the Patriots this year?
Moonie: great job on the 3 mile run on the TM. Watch out for those showers!! Ouch! Here's some pixiedust: to make it better. When DD was little, we had a wash cloth tied in the shape of a bunny. It had a little opening where you put an ice cube to rub on the injured spot. It was called "Boo-boo bunny." What you need is a boo-boo bunny!
Chista: good luck on the long bike ride this weekend!
Jackie: so sorry to hear your ankle has bursitis!! Ow! I had hip bursitis last year and it was a long time in recovery. I didn't run either the 1/2 or full last year. I was able to rehab to the point that it really doesn't bother me any more. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that your ankle gets better and it doesn't bother you any more!

Good morning Team!!! Well last night I actually trained. I was so proud of myself. I managed 35 minutes of Run/Walk at a slower pace than normal. But it was nice to get out. My PF got all crabby at me tho. My foot felt great all during vacation and now I do one little run and pooooffff... it gets mad at me. I wish I could tell it to get over it!!!
Jackie - Oh I am so sorry to hear that about your ankle. I hope you heal quickly!!!
Minnie/Suzy - You know this team really is great. Congrats on your new degree!!!!
Cam - I noticed you did a walk/jog DVD. Did you get the Leslie Sansome ones? I opened my box finally last night and was shocked that they are all DVD's that I didn't have. How exciting for me to have these as back up cross training workouts. I can't wait to try them.
I have to run but will try to pop in later! Have a great day all.

What a difference a few days of training takes!
Is it mean that I was secretly laughing at my husband as he embarked on his first run about 4 days late?
"Are you SURE we are supposed to run this much? 3/2's....for THIRTY-five minutes??"
yes that is what you are supposed to do
pant-pant "It can't be--that's impossible! I thought it started with 2/1's!" pant-pant "This is hard. This can't be right!"
yes it is honey--you can verify it when you are done *snicker* *snicker*:lmao:
And then the strides...I think they put him over the edge.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
In the meantime--my run today was.....GREAT!!!!
I was a good wife--I told him my first day sucked, too.
Then he asks me--"It shouldn't be so hard--it wasn't this hard last time." Ummm...honey? That was a half--this a full.:confused3
In my defense--I told him that he should be working out over the summer--which he didn't do. His response..I did a half, a full won't be any trouble! I tried to tell him.
KARMA IS SWEET!!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl: :cool1:
bad! bad! wifey!:rolleyes1
Wonder if he realizes he will have to actually work this time?
For me--35 minutes of 3/2's....2.88 TM miles (speedwork day) 12.15 pace
post-run strides (form sprints): 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 7.0 for 30 second bursts followed by 1:00 recovery.
On the docket today:
A new air conditioner!!!!!!!!!! Say adios to the budget busting, power bill draining dinosaur!
Cleaning service: HIRED!!!! Now I just have to make enough pennies to pay for it. They start Sep 12.
Costumes for the book ball tomorrow night for my kids! Constructing Daphne's dress this morning (sleeveless--but close enough facsimile!) and have to work it making Zoe's (sesame street) tutu.
Soccer practice with the kids later today and heading to a hotel tonight since we are without A/C until tomorrow.

OK, folks....today it's one month until the Bigelow 5K, and two months until ToT. Enough "up ramping". Time for Judith Anne to get serious. :thumbsup2
Since July and August were pretty much a bust, starting with the first of September I am back on my regularly scheduled training program. What I have done to combine Half and ToT training is take the MFM Half plan from where the L/R is 8 miles (which will be the ToT) and back it up from there. Am I making any sense here? So then the ToT would be a regularly schedule 8 miles L/R. I fully intend to do what I did last training for the Half and not miss any training days. I NEED that both physically and mentally. My only goal for the Half is to finish ahead of what I did this year. So, there you have it. ;)
Christa - Don't worry, you are probably just too young to have grown up watching The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ;)
Jackie - Yea, I hob nob at the grocery store with movie stars all the time, don't cha know. :lmao: Ohh, I'm so sorry you are going to miss your 5K. How frustrating. But let's remember the big picture and focus on getting you well for January.
Kristi - OUCH! Man, I hate shots. How are you feeling today? We were grocery shopping (no star sightings) and you know how they always have some background music playing, well you're BF Johnny came on and I got a big smile thinking of you and how strange but wonderful it is the way we all met and all the things we do, and how everyone here is a part of my every day. And how you always give me such a hard time and you're so much fun. OK, enough mushy stuff. Now, will you start training please. You need to come in right in front of me at the ToT.
Jeanne - You used to live in NY? How long ago? :cool2:
Craig - While I am very happy for all your new assignments, we really really need you around here towards the end of the year. I know I'm being totally selfish about this, but I kept a small notebook of the millions of things I had to remember last year and so many times, as we got closer to the race, you posted such great advice and support and motivation, that I printed a lot of your posts and put them in my notebook. I have the post you wrote about standing under the klieg lights right on the first page! OK, yes, work if you must, but remember the WISH team NEEDS you! :grouphug:
Cam - I don't think Kristi can do this :drinking1 either. Sorry we missed you last night. I'll call you later today, if that's OK. And just WHERE in NY are you guys going to be, missy!?!?! :rolleyes1
Krista & Stephen - Oh no! I must have missed the Hines has an issue post. I hope so much he is OK. :wizard: Let us know. paw:
OK Bill - I'll try to bump shopping carts with a star from your generation. ;)
Jen - I just realized I'm not going to be able to sit with you this race morning. Shoot. You were great for moral support. OK maybe I'll just call you at 3:30am on race morning. :lmao:

Jen and Lisa -- Great job on the training!
Lisa-- your description was priceless! Congrats on the new AC and I'm glad you don't have to suffer through an AC-less night tonight!
Meghan -- I have been suffering hip issues for about 2 weeks now, so you really have my sympathy. I am ignoring mine. :rolleyes1 I've never been to a chiro; I may have to consider that at some point.
Cam - I noticed you did a walk/jog DVD. Did you get the Leslie Sansome ones? I opened my box finally last night and was shocked that they are all DVD's that I didn't have. How exciting for me to have these as back up cross training workouts. I can't wait to try them.
Jen -- I didnt' get in on that great 12 pack deal. But I recently bought a 3 pack that has a power mile, a kick/jog, and a walk/jog, all of which are still interesting to me. The walk/jog I did last night is 33 minutes with the warm-up, cool-down and post-workout (brief) stretch. And Leslie says at the end that if you did that pace of walking and jogging outside, you'd cover 2.5 miles, so it was pretty brisk. I figure if I can do that kind of DVD and work up a sweat (under the ceiling fan, no less), it is a decent workout. And it kept me out of the kitchen!! :rolleyes1
Now, I have to figure out when in the world to fit in a LW this weekend with all the running around, travelling, and DDs 19th birthday  and getting her back to campus!

Judy -- we were posting at the same time. :) We'll be in Staten Island for a christening Saturday and then to Jackson, NJ (I hope to squeeze in some outlet browsing) on our way to Toms River NJ for overnight Saturday and church & a barbecue there Sunday, then back to DE Sunday night, then to Lancaster PA outlets (I hope) Monday am and then Jenn's birthday celebration and then back to her campus. Maybe I can count it all as XT? ;)

Still nursing the back, so nothing new to report. In the spirit of group training, however, I thought I would pass this one along that I just came across:
Three guys were out for their first training walk together to prepare for WDW marathon weekend.
The first guy says: "Man, is it windy?"
The second guy responds: "No, I am sure its Thursday."
The third guy replies: "Me too. Let's stop and get a beer."

Remember you can always reach me through e-mail. I do sort of see my role here as the provider of specific information and advice to specific questions, so feel free to contact me that way. You can also use Martha as a conduit. Lord knows she gets enough advice, both solicited or not, it's a wonder she hasn't punched me yet.
Good luck to averyone as summer begins to turn to cooler autumn training. Well at least it will be autumn here in a week or so. Our Florida friends have, what, 12 more weeks of summer?

Morning all!!
PlutoPDX-- :welcome:
Sassparillo-- :welcome:
Suzy-- Congratulations!!! That's a huge accomplishment!! :thumbsup2
It's been a BIG LTO time around here lately.... when last we left off...
I was still deciding on what to do about Toronto Waterfront at the end of September. I have decided, after much hemming and hawking, to defer to next year. I'm just not where I need to be right now to attempt it, which is entirely my own lack of training. So it's onward and forward to Goofy!! I will most likely still be making the trip to Toronto that weekend, so I will have to get down to the race course and scream team for our halfers! :thumbsup2
My training has suffered big time lately. I went through a good long week of feeling sorry for myself (life issues....) and didn't really get a lot done. But I'm happy to say that I feel like I'm back in the saddle this week. I have decided to use Hal Higdon's Intermediate I plan for Goofy training, since it basically includes all the back-to-back runs already. Since that doesn't start for another two weeks (boo), I'm getting ready by doing the first two weeks of MFM right now. I have managed to get the interval runs in and... it didn't kill me! :cool1:
I'm off to Ft. Lauderdale in a couple of weeks to scout the area out. I have been offered a job down that way and, having never been there before, need to find out if it's somewhere I would like to live. LOTS of variables going on right now, but I figure it's worth a look. Any things I should really see or do in the Lauderdale while I'm there??
Thanks for all the positive Pop reviews as well. I just switched my reservation to there from the Yacht Club for Marathon weekend, which will allow me to add some extra days. Since it's just me, I think it will work out just fine.
Ok, I think that's about all for now...
Happy training all!

Cam - Holey moley, That's a lot of running around this weekend. Make sure you find some time to rest in between all of that!!!!! Oh, and did I mention that I lost 2 of the 3 vacation pounds already. I really need to get back on the crunch/push up challenge. I always have you in the back on my mind to keep me going on those!!!
Judy - Oh Shoot!!! I won't be at the 1/2. I am not sure I was that much support since I was SOOOO nervous. I had no clue what was going on, I just kept a smile on my face and went with the flow. If you want, I can leave my cell phone on and you can call me before the race... preferably closer to 5am instead of 3am tho!!! :lmao: I hope I find you on the course somewhere during the full. I may need a High Five!!!
You know, I am just full of chit chat today. Maybe because I have been so busy with LTO lately. So anyhooo.. I had 4 inches chopped off my hair on Tuesday. No more pony tails every day. And when I ran last night it was nice not to have a hot pile of hair on my neck!!! It is quite a drastic change for me, but with all the crud in my personal life I just needed a change. DH couldn't believe I did it!

I have to say that I am glad that my marathon training will soon be winding down. I am tired! I got 5 miles in last night, but I felt like I was dragging the first 2 miles.....better after they were done.
Kevin: I am sorry I won't get to see you in Toronto, but totally get feeling that you are not ready. I don't know if I am ready, but onward and upward! I got my 18 miler in, and will just have my 20 miler yet to go next weekend.

Good morning gang! Thanks for all the well wishes - I managed to *not* slip in the tub last night, so I figure things are improving
Yesterday evening I got in ~7.1 mi, averaging somewhere 11-12 min/mi. My hips have been bothering me all week so I wanted to take it easy, even though they really only hurt when I'm walking - running doesn't really seem to have the same aches that walking does. Honestly I'm surprised at my times, because I felt like I was going *much* slower, and also had to burn 2-3 minutes waiting for stoplights to change. Around mile 5.5 my stomach started feeling kinda icky, so I had to take a few longer walk breaks after that. I was able to finish my planned run, though, and avoided getting sick, so yay for that!
Unfortunately, I think I'm either developing an allergy to the metal in my iPod shuffle, or else it's just a regular friction thing, but I'm starting to get a irritating rash right in the one spot where I clip it to my waistband. Man, so annoying. Just means I have to figure out somewhere else to clip it, I guess...
Happy Thursday, guys!

Judy: I lived in Manhattan until I was 31 (1984). Once the kids arrived, we moved to the near burbs but hubby continued to work in the city so we always had that connection. NYC has tons of celebrities, but we always pretend not to notice them (it's that ego thing). I remember when we used to jog around the Central Park reservoir and Jackie O would always be there....running against the flow. I guess she didn't want anyone coming up behind her!

Actually, we shipped him off to college on the 17th. So far, so good.
Jeanne - Where in the suburbs? (OK now am I asking too many questions??? :lmao: ) We have lots of celebs here too. When I went to the hospital in Sept last year I was sitting next to Martha stewart who spent the entire time on the phone explaining to people why she had left her estate while still wearing the "ankle bracelet". Rob Thomas lives right near us, as does one of the Kenendy's who's name I can't remember. We used to ride on Joseph Mankiewicz's estate and we used to be able to ride thru Ralph Lauren's place but he closed off the trails. Glenn Close lives nearby too, but, well, she's not very nice. And Micheal Bloomberg's summer home is here. Matter of fact he ran a 5K with us in May. Richard Gere lives here also. (Man, he's getting old! Good thing we arent!) Anyway, it used to be NoWheresVille here until this area was "discovered". Which is almost too bad, because no it's all overpriced and getting too crowded.

Meghan -- I have been suffering hip issues for about 2 weeks now, so you really have my sympathy. I am ignoring mine. I've never been to a chiro; I may have to consider that at some point.
Cam-learn from my mistake and DON'T ignore it. I know that you also have SI joint issues, and your soreness might be related. I started feeling tight and sore in early July. Ignored it and kept running intervals. Eventually my hip flexor started screaming and then my whole upper leg just hurt all of the time. It took weeks just to get to the point where only my hip adductor and flexor hurt. Now, I am back to the tight, but not painful stage. My leg muscles have lost a lot of strength and I feel like I am starting over. I started going to PT just before the CDC and electric stim/stretching got me to the point where I was able to walk the CDC without pain-but no running allowed. I started going to the chiro last week and three visits have produced more results than 2 weeks of PT. (I suspect the combination of the two are what has really helped.) My left illium is rotated and that pulls my left leg up (also causes problems with my SI joint on that side). This causes the hip muscles to go crazy trying to compensate and that is causing my pain/stiffness. The chiro just pops it back into place and I'm on my way. You should at least see someone if the soreness persists for a few more days.
OK-lecture over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I don't think Kristi can do this :drinking1 either.
Hey - my left arm is fine! :lmao: :drinking1
Seriously, I felt better today at work. Arm still really sore, but more tolerable. On the drive home, I started feeling lightheaded. I napped for over an hour before Chad went to work. I got up and now I feel all woozy again. The kicker is that I am supposed to go get 3 allergy shots today - in the same arm! (I have a circulation problem with the left & cannot have needles in that arm) I have to call them & see if I can even get the shots with my arm like this.
Judy - for the record.... I really don't do any of :dance3: I had to warn my friend Greta before we went to Justin Timberlake - I don't dance. I love a Billy Joel or Elton John show since you can sit the whole time! :rotfl:
And hearing Goo in random places like a grocery store is technically called "random goo." At least by those much more wacky than me on the fan club boards. :rotfl2:

The computer eat my post. :headache: Now to try to remember what I wanted to say.
Cam--- I just got that Walk/Jog DVD with that 12 pack I ordered. I used it Tuesday and it gives you quite the workout. The Lancaster outlets are only 30 minutes from my house, sometime when you have more time we should get together.
Jen--- There was only 1 DVD that I already had in that 12 pack so I was very pleased with the variety that I got. Should be a nice change for XT.
Beth--- Good luck with your 1/2 marathon this weekend. Have fun. I thought you were working today so feel bad that I didn't wish you good luck yesterday when I left work.
Training for me this week as been
Monday 3 miles
Tues WATP walk/jog video
Wed 4 miles on TM
Hoping for pump class and another 3 miles.
I know I had more but can't seem to remember what else I wanted to say. Guess it wasn't that important.

Thanks for the advice,Meghan! I really have to get back in the habit of stretching my hamstrings before I walk or jog and I think that will get me back to a pain-free existence. Stretching is definitely KEY for me. Thank you so much for caring, and I am so glad you have found someone to help and that the results have been so great!
Cam - how the heck do you do all you do? I am dead serious. I can barely find clean clothes in my house lately with both of us working! You are one amazing woman, that's for sure!
Kristi -- here's the secret to my ability to function -- are you ready? Howard does all the laundry! :cloud9:  Back when I was in college and he was visiting me, we witnessed a couple having a spat apparently over laundry and the guy said to the girl "IF you really loved me, you'd do my laundry!" Well, wonder of wonders and all prayers be answered! Howard thought that that was the way to show his love! :lmao: Shhhhhhhh . . . .. don't tell him that isn't the case! Actually, in all fairness, we made a deal when I was in law school -- he did the laundry and I did the clutter/bills. The fact is that no one is running around without tidy whities if I don't deal with the clutter or a the bills aren't paid 7-10 days before they're due! :rotfl2:

He just likes to fold it & leave it all over the living room, cuz I am sleeping. Problem with this you ask? He NEVER puts it away! I can leave a pile on the end table in the living room for days & days - just to see if it ever moves - and it doesn't!
Ok, enough of that....

Does anyone know if an ipod (the original one - forget what it is called) and the ipod shuffle use the same software? I am thinking about running to the store tonight to get a shuffle and then using my sister's software (she has the original one) since she already has tons of music uploaded on her computer.
I decided not to use a babysitter for the DL half on monday - it weirded me out too much. So DH graciously volunteered to sit this one out and watch the children while I run alone. So now that I am running alone I am thinking about getting the ipod shuffle. Anyone know how hard it is to program? I leave for CA on saturday.

Wow! I am amazed at what a properly running A/C can do!
It is the heat of the day---they turned it on at 4pm  .
The starting temp was 86 degrees. In less than 2.5 hours it has brought it down to 83 degrees.
It used to take the dinosaur---well...it couldn't manage that between noon and 7pm. Then when it could finally be effective, it would take about 3 or 4 hours to make it go down 1 degree.
So yeah to the new A/C!!!:woohoo: :woohoo:

Tried to hit the hotspots of each park and did the P&P Party.

Annie ADORES Dancing with the Stars, but had completely forgotten to check the lineup of stars for this season. What a squeal just came out in our house! DH is completely baffled - he does NOT get it! She said to tell you Helio is her 3rd favorite (behind Marco & Kanaan), so she will definitely be pulling for him. (Dario was moving up in rank until he made disparaging comments against Marco & Michael after last weekend's race!)
Jen - My PF got mad at me after every run when I got back from WDW. It's just now beginning to forgive me (which is good since the bursitis is in the other foot - I need at least one halfway good foot!)
Moon - Try using Body Glide on the area around the waistband. That may help with the rash.
No training at all! Set the clock to get up and do upper body weights this morning, but just decided to take the entire week off. Saturday I'll probably try the bike to make up for the LR I'm missing...

Can only do a drive by as I am trying to finish getting ready for our trip out of town this weekend. We are going to the lower Keys so my dh can finish painting at his boss' house. I am not going to have internet for the whole weekend so it probably will kill me!! LOL I am bringing a small TV and antenna (so no satellite with TIVO either) basically its going to be camping but indoors. I still haven't had a real chance to get some running in so maybe I can do some running while down there. I mapped out some runs/walks so we will see what happens!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful, safe holiday. Good luck to those with races. "See" everyone Monday or Tuesday.

Thank you Steve your wish worked, our temp is down for at least the next week and hopefully the heat wave is over.
Good morning WISH Warriors.
How is everyone's first week of marathon training going? It feels good to have the goal ahead again. I can't wait to have our ToT and then our Goofy adventure.
The Goofy still seems pretty huge. Lots of respect for those who have taken on the challange in the past. I can't even begin to know what that must feel like. The marathon has been mine and Erica's longest distance. Once we do get the Goofy behind us and it becomes an annual event, we might look at an ultra challange. But Goofy first.
How is everyone's aches and pains today, feeling better?
Remember you will only get one chance to live today, do something that makes you happy, even if it's just giving someone you love extra hugs.

Not too much going on for me, got in 3.21 on Tuesday, but yesterday only just over a mile (we had violent thunder and lightning and lost power for a bit)
I do have a question though, right above my ankle has been really sore, feels like the muscle is pulling and gets really hot. I thought I might not be warming up enough, when I am ready to go, I need to go, or might lose my motivation, so I tried doing more stretching to warm up the last two times, but the pain still shows up about about 10 minutes after I start walking. Any ideas what I'm doing to cause this? Or to prevent it?
Also, can anyone tell me about BioFreeze? I've read about it in a few magazines, but am not really sure what it is/used for? I think it's similar to BenGay or IcyHot, but one article said to use it before running, so I'm not sure?
Thanks guys! Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

Angie ~ Hi, I have limited knowledge of BioFreeze, but what I do know is that it was really helpful during the Marathon portion of the Goofy last year, at least for me. The medical tents had volunteers at the side of the road with huge pump bottles giving it out to anyone who needed it. I needed it for my leg/calf muscles that were tight and sore/achy. It went on super cool and then some how, almost magically :wizard: , made them feel better. I am sure it works on the same principle as icyhot but it is better in my opinion. I didn't see it being distributed/offered at every aid station, so I wouldn't count on getting it at each one. I remember it helping Kevin (Kevin Z) and I during the marathon. I am not sure if Lynne needed any, she was doing better than Kevin and I at those points in the race.
Yes, I do the :laundy: . When Cam started working at law firms, almost all of her clothes needed to be sent to the drycleaners. So, if I wanted any clean clothes for work, etc. I had to do them.... it caught on and low these (almost 23 years later) I am still taking care of it. No biggy. :thumbsup2
My classes (so far) seem like they will be somewhat enjoyable but challenging. Due to the way the dates fall, my Monday class doesn't actually meet until September 10.
Happy training everyone!

Angie--I tried BioFreeze for the first time the other night. Got a sample in a race goody bag. I had been having some hamstring pain, so I thought what the heck, I'd try it out. I "guess" it relieved my pain, all I noticed was the super cold feeling it left behind--traded one uncomfortable feeling for another;) It didn't smell as bad as bengay. I'd probably try it again, but honestly, I think I ice would work just as well.
No training to report from me for the past 2 days--LTO. Anyway, hoping to get 14 in on Sunday before work. We'll see how that goes, time wise--might end up being a speed workout!;) Gotta run, kidlets need me!

Work is showing no signs of slowing down, so another total drive by post for me.
Monday was 6 mi in 1:06:39 (11:07/mi)
Tuesday was a stability ball workout at boot camp.
Wednesday was a hilly group run of 4.54 mi in 48:27 (10:40/mi). Splits were 11:31/11:08/11:04/9:54/9:04 (for 0.54 mi)
Thursday was speed intervals with boot camp.
Today is a rest day, and tomorrow I have 14 miles on tap - my longest run ever so far. I'm meeting up with the group and running partway with them since some are going longer, some are going shorter. I thought I could use some company.
Have a great long weekend everyone!

All righty then! JIC anyone wants to see how my traininging and mini LR was this week, I am posting it. WISH I had time to catch up, but not today Zurg!;)
Anyway!
I told you about my LBR (Long Bike Ride) I am supposed to do this weekend. Well I just cannot see my DH and DDs allowining me to be gone on a bike for that long so this is my insane plan!
Yesterday (Thursday) I cycled 35+ miles on the paved greenways and roads of Charlotte.
Today I ran 10 miles (will get to that below)
Tomorrow (Saturday) I plan to bike another 35-45 miles and see if I can rope my sis into it with me, so if we get lost, at least we will be together.:)
My LR today!
Was a bit cooler (80s) so I was really excited! I only did 10 today, so I knew I would be finished in at least 90 min. Here is round about the break down in milles.
1 - 8:20
2 - 8:20
3 - 8:00 - it was up a BFH, but a woman came up behind me and was trying to "race", so I had to "kick it in".:rolleyes1 But I don't like competition!:lmao:
4 - 8:10
5 through 10 I am not sure of where the miles are so I won't post those.
I finished in 1:24 (but did not stop the watch for traffic every time and I think I did a little over 10 miles...like 10.2 or something). But whatever....I ended up with an ave 8:24 MPM...so I must have slowed a bit at the end (up East Blvd.) I could tell in the last 2 miles that I had biked the day b/4, but all in all, it was a wonderful run.
Later team!

Sara – So nice to see you, sweetie! Sorry I hadn’t thought to check the MCM thread to catch up on our WISH teammates doing that race. I am so glad to know you are still here! And thank you for the heads’ up on SWA – I got a good price for Tuesday after the marathon for Howard, Jenn and me. :woohoo: I had totally forgotten to tend to the detail of a flight home. :confused3
Stephanie – LOVE the new picture!
Lisa – :woohoo: for new AC!!! So, no hotel last night?
Leana and Christa -- awesome workouts!! :thumbsup2
Christa -- please give Bree a hug for me when you see her!
Life and work are still busy here. We have our final meeting with the kitchen designer tonight with demolition to start 9/10. Sure, Howard goes off to class and I go home to a “demolished” kitchen!! LOL!!!
Hoping to get in some miles this weekend, since we are unexpectedly home part of the day tomorrow and Monday. I bought a cloth covered resistance band last night and have added some lower body strengthening exercises to my push-up/crunch regimen. At least it keeps me doing something even when I don’t have time to get to the gym or outside.
I am soooo excited at the prospect of meeting Nancy tomorrow, if she has time. How cool is that? :)
Sorry for all I missed. So glad we can all gather here. :grouphug:
Have a great weekend everyone! And to everyone doing races – have an awesome time!

Howard, Cam: re :laundy: when DH and I first met, he did all his own laundry. Over the years, I mostly took it over, but since he will do laundry when he needs to and offers up to do it and we often tag-team it (i.e. I start it and he finishes it) I cannot complain about it. He often does quite a bit of vacuuming too! The way I was raised, the women did the house work and the men didn't. It took a while for me to "give up" control of that. Now, I've no problem at all letting any one who wants to vacuum, do laundry, mow the yard, whatever, do so. I don't complain.
Christa: lord, slow down woman! I'm tired just reading what you will be doing over the next few days.
WWDave: SO--you've started the "Men Only, pretty princesses stay out" thread, eh? Ya think we ain't gonna read it? Ho boy do YOU have a LOT to learn ;)
Calcio: Botticelli's Venus? :love2: :love2:
Becky: re-iPod software. I have the original software for the iPod. I received the new generation shuffle earlier this year and was able to use iTunes, same account for the shuffle as for the original iPod. I named the shuffle differently from the regular one and haven't had a problem. The software "knows" what to do. What color are ya gonna get?
Leana: good luck on the 14 miler this weekend! Hope it's fairly cool for the run.
Kim: I just luv getting new shoes! I hope they work well for you.
Judy: I had no idea you were in such a chic place! All those celebs! And listening to Martha Stewart talk about why she left the area with the ankle bracelet--lord, you coulda sold that story for money!!!
I did get in 3 miles last night on the indoor track and finished just before all the teams got on the track. Today is a rest day and tomorrow is 5 miles. It's very quiet here as everyone seems to have left town already. We pick up our new car tomorrow morning and then on Sunday we are headed to the Jimmy Buffett concert (par-tay time). We are NOT taking the new car. But we are going with friends who want to spend 3 hours before the concert tailgating. Oh, this is gonna be good!
Happy Birthday, Calcio!!!

Martha--- I am so jealous you are going to a Jimmy Buffet concert. We listen to his CDs in the car every weekend. Good thing you have Monday to recover. Have a great time.
Cam--- We are so looking forward to meeting you and Howard tomorrow.
Today is a rest day for me. One LW scheduled for the weekend.
Hope everyone's injuries heal soon. Looks like everyone is doing well with their training.
Good luck to everyone with races this weekend.

I was just joking about this with my colleague -- saying my house is too messy for me to bring in a cleaning service. I'd be embarassed! I am thinking that once the kitchen renovation is done, I could use the excuse that I need someone to come in and wipe down walls and baseboards, etc. due to all the plaster dust. Do you think that would work? :rotfl: And maybe in the next 2.5 months I should try to clean up some of the stuff that I won't be able to pass off as construction dust! :lmao:

Cam-keep up with the stretching. I really need to do more of that myself. I tend to get lazy about it.
Jackie-OK, I guess Helio can be her third favorite. There is a little video of him practicing on indycar.com that she should check out. He looks so cute! Did I tell you the story about TK jumping the fence and chatting with us while I was changing Clara's diaper on pole day at Indy? It was pretty funny and he is now my husband's favorite because of it. If TK is her second favorite, she will love this artice http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/37575/?page=1
Once again, I am only responding to Cam and Jackie. But really, I do read everyone's posts! And I am super excited that there might be another WISH member joining me at the Indy mini-marathon in May. Hmm, I wonder who that might be?

Just can't trust those pretty princesses. They are mischevious and unpredictable.
The days of the women doing all the house work was from the days when one income was enouth. Now if you want to have Disney and in some cases bail money, it takes both partners working.
I desided to take a rest day today since I got up late and Erica got off an hour early. I hadn't had a rest day this week so I was due. 21.5 miles for the week. As long as I get over 20 for a week I'm good with it.
Have a wonderful weekend team.

Just a quick drive-by :car:
Yesterday was a rest day. Today is 5 miles. We leave in a few minutes to pick up DH's birthday present. One of our cars came off lease this month so we bought a new one. It will be his car. It's an Acura RDX, carbon bronze pearl, taupe interior. Zippy thing too.
Then tomorrow it's off to the Jimmy Buffett concert for more birthday fun!!

Morning team. No training to report from me today--heading to work in a few (the pharmacy gig, just to clarify, since right now I'm holding 3, yes, 3 part-time jobs). DH just got back from his LR, however, and described it as "heaven". After the stonker he had last weekend, this is sweet revenge. He's now excited about our upcoming race.:cool1: Guess the 20 degree weather this weekend compared with last weekend's has a lot to do with it. Crossing my fingers that tomorrow morning's weather is just as good!
Craig--Happy Bday! Have fun with your new "toy". And have a wonderful time with your "Venus" wasting away again in Margaritaville!
Okay, gotta dress the kidlets before heading out! Have a great Saturday!

Stephanie - Don't get too buried by the 3 job. Glad to hear your DH LR went well!
Craig - Happy Birthday! Have fun at the concert tomorrow!
Lisa - Great job on the LR! Why oh why do us husbands not listen to our wives. Heres a joke - A man needed a brain transplant and the Dr. told the family it would cost 10,000. They asked if there was a cheaper option. He told them he could use a womans brain for 5,000. They asked why the difference in price. He answered that the womans brain was used. (Rimshot)
Leana - Good luck on the 14 miler today!
Cam - I would agree with Meghan and suggest you see a chiro for your hip. Years ago I had such severe back pain that I would not be able to stand up straight due to the back spasms. My family doc gave me an Rx for muscle relaxants. Didn't help, so I tried a chiro. Adjusted me and I walked out upright. I now see one on a monthly basis, and it helps that she used to run cross country in school and is still a runner (when she can fit it in to her schedule of being a Dr, a wife, and mommy) so she pays attentions to my hips, knees, and lower back. She also ran me through some core exercies to help me keep my core strong for my runs. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you.
Jackie - I hope your ankle recovers soon. Way to go on keeping up with cross training until you can get back on the road.
Judy - How is your foot handling the training? I hope it going well for you.
Christa - Good luck on your Long Ride this weekend! I actually tried to eat a powerbar on my LR yesterday...all I can say is Thank God I took my Claritin and Nasonex before my run.
Howard - Good luck with your last two semesters!
Kevin - My DW and I liked Pop. I hope they decide to finish the other half that's across the bridge that was supposed to be the legendary years.
Mel - Hope your endoscopy went well.
Angie - Wow....I hope you get over everything soon. Hang in there!
Steve - Its a lot cooler than what it was here in eastern Iowa, hopefully soon it will head your way. Did Hines start having these episodes after the CDC?
Mike - Thanks for intilling a large amount of jealousy, I haven't had any for awhile and was missing it:laughing: . In the latest iss of Trail Runner there is an article on barefoot running and they mentioned a shoe by Vibram called the Five Fingers. The upside would be that the skin may stay on your big toes. The downside, trapped sand.....ouch.
Meghan - You can find reviews in Consumer Reports and on TreadmillDoctor.com. When you go to look, try the TM out at varied speeds, incline, and compare what features they have. I have a Vision Fitness that I like and will come to love this winter when it's the usual icy and snowy Iowa winter. Good luck!
Kelley - Just wondering how your DH is doing? Whenever I see a cyclist on the road I think of your post about him getting hit and the jerk driving off.
Jen - Your marathon training is going to go well and your gonna do great in the full. You can do it, don't just believe it...know it.:thumbsup2
Training note:
This past week I've kept up on my runs, but lacked on the XT. Wednesday night I ran for an hour after work through part of the campus of Univeristy of Iowa and there were plenty of other runners out. I kept up a pretty quick pace so the younguns wouldn't go back to their dorms to talk about the old, slow, fat guy they saw on their run. Yesterday was my LR of 20 miles. I felt some trepidation about it as my LR of 18 miles last week was a stonker. I actually thought for the first time that this marathon goal of mine may be unattainable. I was wrong. The day was cool, with low humidity, and such a clear blue sky that I thought "This is why I run". I felt strong for the majority of the run and when I passed the 18 mile mark I felt a new rush thinking that this was now the farthest I have ever gone. I finished the 20 miles and even though my legs were sore (although not overbearingly so) I felt good. Funny note.....there was a road crew working on the asphalt that is the bike path, patching holes and smoothing out big dips. I passed them doing my back and forth three times (they were not there the 1st time) and when I passed them the last time, one guy was using a tamper to smack down the asphalt to smooth it flat. The troublemaker I am (Hi Anne ;) ) yelled out "Bad Asphalt, BAADD Asphalt...take that" as I ran past. I did not turn around to see the workers reaction.
Well, now I start the taper and see if I experience the Taper Madness that I have heard about. My marathon is 3 weeks from tomorrow and my mindset is this - Bring it on!
Happy Training!
