Me – 37…… just love it all
DH – Enz – 46…..has ‘gone along’ with the Florida/Disney thing for years but think he finally loves it too!
DD – Gabs – 14…..loves Pirates of the Caribbean…….money burns a hole in her pocket
DS – Gianni – 11….loves Chip n Dale…..can’t wait to spend!
The flight out
We were flying from Gatwick on 10th August at 12.45 so were planning to check-in on-line and get up very early in the morning to drive down. With this is mind I book a park and greet for the airport (worked out slightly dearer than parking only). At the end of July I read that there would be night-time roadworks which would make the journey time longer….in a panic I booked a room at the Ramada Plaza. By the time we checked in the pool was closing so we decided to head to the airport to eat at Pizza Express…..it’s become a bit of a tradition.
Anyhoooo…..after a pretty decent, reasonably priced and calm breakfast at the hotel, we head off to the airport. Dropped off the bags and headed through security……a 2 hour delay became a 3 hour delay became a 5 hour delay….but hey ho I didn’t care….I was going on holiday :dance3: We were starving by 2.30 so headed off for lunch at Est Est Est….paid and went for a mooch….then the announcement come on for us to collect refreshment vouchers. They came to £15 each and we could have used them for the lunch aaarrrghhhh. I guess this happened to a lot of folk getting on our flight because we were all queuing up buying drinks and food to take on the plane lol
The flight was pretty uneventful. A couple of films weren’t working so were replaced with others. DD & I watched Journey to Terabithia – I thought it would be all fairy-taley it and it is but we both balled our eyes out near the end. (I won’t spoil it for anyone wanting to see it!)
By the time we landed and picked up the car (DH driving only, there was no option on expedia to add the extra driver….and they wanted $17 a day to add me at Alamo at the airport…..wish I had though. I really missed not driving!) we were really tired but headed off towards the hotel. Everything was ok until we headed the wrong way on the 192 and had to turn round to head the other way. All this was happening along with conversations of ‘our bodies think it’s 3 in the morning’ over and over again lol
The flight home
Our flight home was booked for 8.10pm on Sunday 19th. Checked in on-line whilst at Disney Quest. Dropped the cases off at DTD at about 8.45 – very short queue. The man weighing the cases just picked ours up and said they were ok….we got him to weigh them…..curiosity and all that. 3 cases and 2 holdalls between us – the heaviest was just under 20kg and the others averaged out at 15kg each! We need to shop more ;)
After a brilliant last day park-hopping we headed to the airport, dropped of the car and boarded the plane which took off more or less on time.
Again, uneventful. Again, a couple of films (the only 2 I wanted to watch) weren’t working. I was a bit disappointed with Virgin’s choice of films and TV programmes this year for the simple reason that it’s a predominantly family route and the majority of what was showing had the red warning triangles next to them! I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any adult viewing but at least 50/50 would be better.
The best thing about going and coming back was the ‘meet and greet’ service – so worth having someone meeting you with the car!
