View Full Version : Retractable Sharpies
Are retractable Sharpies *really* good for autographs? Should I just stick with a ballpoint?

I saw a lot of people with the retractable Sharpies and they worked out well. They cost more than I was willing to spend, so I took regular, full size Sharpies with me. I just made sure that when I handed it to a character, the top was already off and the pen was ready to go...we had no problems at all.

I bought some washable markers that were retractable at the grocery store. I think there were 8 in the package for about $5.

We brought a retractable sharpie and it went right through the pages of the our autograph book. Maybe the autograph books you buy at Disneyworld have thicker pages, we bought ours on ebay.
So, we ended up using a fatter ball point pen that came with the autograph book which worked just fine.

I just bought a pack of Crayola twist top markers. I think the set was $4. I'm hoping this will work. They are the fat ones.

The BIG FAT retractables are great for the characters to sign with! It is hard for them to grip the smaller pens...I am also bringing a mini-clipboard for them to bare down on...Just trying to make it easier! The Sharpies should not go through the paper in the autograph books at Disney...they are relatively thick pages!

Sharpies will bleed through the pages of the autograph books sold in Disneyworld.

I have used them and I have 2 autograph books right here and they are fine! If, somehow, that have started making them "cheaper" by using thinner paper, you could always put a picture of the character on theback of the autographed page, i.e. when the book is open, the left side always has a pic and the right side always has the autograph...OR SCRAPBOOK and make your own, getting the supplies from Michael's or whatever AND make sure you use card stock paper...then it should NOT be a problem!

We used retractable Sharpies on our last trip and they worked out great! We had the blue front autograph books Disney sells in the parks and the Sharpies did NOT bleed through at all!!
We've got colorful retractable Sharpies for this trip :thumbsup2

We are going to do autographs for the 1st time on our next WDW trip coming in May 2008. We picked up a package of retractable sharpies (7.99 on sale) and a couple 3x5 spiral index card books (.50 -.97 each). I tested the sharpies and they do not bleed through the index cards.
The reason that we chose the index card book is that each card can be removed easily, the book is compact and easy to handle. We want to start a scrabook with the pictures we take with the characters and their autographs.

The clickable sharpies are fine for characters.

the retractable sharpies may or may not bleed through to the next page, depending on the pressure given. its Wayy easier for characters to grip the sharpies rather than small pens.
