Holy moly, this book is massive.
I've already read DW w/kids, but this unofficial guide is in a league of its own!
I hope I can get through it in 5 months!

How exciting! I'll have to hit the bookstore this weekend. I borrowed the '06 version from the library, but I need my own. :)

Call me jealous! I ordered mine online (with another book) a few weeks ago, but this weekend I got an email, saying that the publishers have delayed the release of the book! Now that can't be- you all have it! I hope it's on the way soon!

Me too!! :sad1: I'm wondering if I should cancel my online order and hit the bookstore instead of waiting. I'm a little lacking in the patience department! :rolleyes1

My book store sucks! I went to get it, and the computer said that the book is released. However, it is still in the warehouse and won't be shipped to the store.:confused3 They went ahead and ordered on for me, and it won't be here till the 30th. :sad2:

Went by Barnes and Noble and picked my up this afternoon! I was so excited, my DH just rolled his eyes. Amazon shows it won't be released until 8/27 but its on the shelves now.

Okay, it might be a silly question, but I have never used one before. What would be the advantage of getting a guide? What type of info would it contain or is just a good read? I LOVE to read.

Same here! I'm currently borrowing my neighbors 2007 edition to get some of the basics down, so I think I may be able to wait. I'll give it another week, then I'm off to the bookstore!;)

I went to Borders and B&N today in St Louis. B&N had it, Borders didn't. The computer at Borders said it still hadn't been released. Just to save someone a possible trip. :goodvibes

I have never read the unoffical guide, I always get Birnbaum's Walt Disney World Books, has anyone read both and is one better than the other in your opinion??

The Unofficial Guide is 100 times better than Birnbaum's books. It contains loads of information about everything involved with trip planning and has a section on Universal too. And since it's not funded by Disney (like Birnbaum), they can offer honest takes on the attractions, hotels and restaurants. The only thing that it lacks is full-color photos, which are a part of Birnbaum. However, I'd still strongly recommend the unofficial guide. I ordered mine from Amazon, and am just going to wait for next week. Exciting!

I had asked the same question a while ago on another thread and pretty much all the responses said yes.... I have been to WDW plenty of times but never w/ a baby so thats the reason why I am going to buy a copy... As for some of the benifits, It helps you pick the parks on the best days, it has an organizer section, each year a new one comes out and it gives you the most up to date information.... You can find these things out on Dis but its a good read and helps you plan. I think its worth it! :goodvibes

nice, I also have Birnbaum's guide from last year and I am pretty up-to-date on the new things that are happening, maybe I will switch for my 08 trip and see what they've got! Thanks for your help!

I got mine at B&N, I went in to get it. It was $20, and I'm shocked at the amount of information is in it.
They had about 50 copies on the shelves!

For those who pre-ordered: I just got an email from Barnes and Noble which said my book has been shipped and is on it's way! :cool1:
Good thing- I was going to cancel the order before I ran my errands later and pick it up at the store! I wish I had it today, but I can wait a day or two!

Thank you. I was finding so much on this thread that I thought I would be fine, but I never realized how much I don't know or remember from previous trips. (a lot can change in 5 years). I think I will take a trip to my book store and take a look through. It might just be needed! Thank you again.

Just got a Borders e-mail and 20% off coupon today, going to use that towards the book!

I just went to Borders to pick up a copy and I found a coupon online for 25% off. I was able to use it with no hassle, they just asked if I had received it in email (I said yes). You have to join their Borders Rewards program, but it's free and all they asked for was my email address.
Also, before I went to the bookstore I was able to check online on their site for which Borders near me had the book in stock.
I tried to post the link for the coupon here but since I have only been a member of the DIS board since yesterday and I have only 2 posts so far (this counts as three), it won't allow me to post links :sad2: I think you have to post at least 10 times before it will allow you to post links. If you want link to the coupon, send me a PM. There's a 25% off coupon that expires on 8/26/07 and a 20% off coupon that expires on 8/30/07.

Just got back from the mall and Waldenbooks which is the same company or something like that as Borders (so I could use my coupon) and they didn't have the book! grrr now I have to wait for another mall trip, I guess I should have checked online first to see if they had it!

How much is the book in the stroe? Borders/Amazon has it online for $13.59, ok but I just saw that it is to preorder, says it will be available 8-27

The Borders sticker says $19.99.
I'm in NJ and my coupon was for 25% off so it was $14.99 + NJ tax = $16.04.
I'm still too much of a newbie to this board and it still won't let me post links, but if you go to the Borders website and click 'store inventory' you can check your surrounding stores to see if they have it in stock before you trek out there.

I don't know if anyone has found it cheaper, but Amazon has it for $13.59. You can get free Super Saver Shipping with a $25 order or free shipping with a Prime membership. I love my Amazon Prime membership. :thumbsup2 Here's the link for anyone who's interested: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0470089636/ref=ord_cart_shr/103-7910019-6260647?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

:headache: I am so mad at myself... I took the kids to the book store one day & the book was there. I did not have cash on me & was not going to charge for just this so I did not pick it up. We came home later and I found a gift certificate that I haven't used yet. I went to the store yesterday and it was gone. They just received their shipment and were not logging it until Tuesday. So now I have to go back again & hope they have it. (They don't think it came in with this shipment.) No manager was around to help me out and the lady that was there was spread very thin. (only 2 employees were working and it is not a small store.):sad2:

I've got mine, too. I took a deep breath and dove right in. I'm soooo glad I bought it!
I'm liking it alot better than the Birnbaum book I bought last year.

I agree, the Birnbaum book is nice with pictures and colorful pages but this already seems more informative. I've just paged through it so far but have already gotten some ideas for things I will and will not be doing next trip

Besides the best days to visit the parks feature, which is absolutely essential, they have other info in there that we have found nowhere else. I had never heard of the wildlife preserve Disney has, off the grounds a ways. Maybe that's why they don't want to advertise it, you'd be leaving the grounds. It sounds really cool and I never saw nor heard anything about it before reading it in this edition. The updates online come with buying the book too. So any last minute details or changes are available to you if you purchased the new book. We bought ours the day we heard it was available. June can't come fast enough!:cool1:
