I have been investigating doing the Butterfly Farm on St. Maarten with out doing it as a DCL excursion.

The price of entry for the Butterfly Farm is only $8, but in order to compare if it is worth it to do it on my own, I need to know the general cost of taking a taxi to the farm or to do some shopping.

Anyone know?

I think the cost of the actual excursion is over $30 a person, but that includes stopping for shopping in two different areas and going to the butterfly farm.

Think it is worth it to just do it with DCL instead of on my own?

We are interested in doing some shopping, too.

Thanks!:)

just got back, (this is my first post upon returning, in fact) and we loved St Maarten. We caught a taxi from Philipsburg to Orient Beach for $25 for 6 people each way,and passed the Butterfly Farm on the way, not too far from Orient Beach. Also our taxi driver made arrangements to pick us up and take us back to town for $25 return trip, and was faithful to his word. Very friendly people there. The shopping in Philipsburg was great too, very reasonable and fun.

St Thomas was a little more of a pain I thought. We did a St John excursion in the morning, then walked to town in the afternoon and taxied back from C.A. (town) to the ship for $16 (he wanted $3 pp but accepted $16 for 6 people). It's not that far (maybe little more than a mile) to walk into town but it was hot, and there is the time factor also since the day there is so short.

Thanks "northsouth'!! I hope you had a GREAT trip!

It seems that the taxis in St. Maarten are more expensive than in St. Thomas.

We're still trying to figure out what we want to do in St. Maarten.

We are really thinking about doing the Snuba/Coral World/Coki Beach in St. Thomas.
