Charging Mobile phones when in US

Whenever and wherever we've travelled in the US for any length of time we've had trouble charging our mobiles.

We take our chargers (DH and I both have Nokia, DD Samsung), but they don't seem to work with the voltage over there. DH tends to keep his on due to work:badpc: which severely drains it, and I'm always getting and sending texts to friends and family with photos:rolleyes1 .

What does everyone else use - and can you recommend something we can buy that will solve the problem?:idea:

I saw something in a supermarket the other day - it was battery operated, (but dead cheap which made me think it probably wouldn't be up to much).

As long as the plug on the charger says 100-250v or thereabouts you should have no problem, it is if the plug says 220-250v you will find it takes a long time to charge, if at all! We have always found our Nokias to charge well.

I bought an American phone charger for my Nokia at one of those little airport shops over there. It is a tiny thing with the two flat pins built into it that fold inside when not in use and a retractable cord. Cost about $20 I think.

If you are hiring a car you could take car chargers and do it that way.

As advised check the charger for its input voltage range.
Assume it will not work if it's doesn't meet the US 110V.

This year I bought a car cigarette lighter adaptor for my Nokia at Walmart, cost $10 and I can use it back home.
They also stocked mains adaptors for around $20.
Both varieties covered the popular makes.

Alternately try one of the many mobile shops for an official charger but I don't know the price.

you can buy a phone charger lead in walmart and also for around $8 you can buy the car charger for your phone.

We use a car charger, so whenever we go out we charge the phone in the car.
If you dont have one, you can buy them of e-bay for about £2-3 for most models.

Ours always charge ok, we put them on charge overnight.:thumbsup2

Only probs I have had is with Motorola v220. Bought US charger for it off ebay for 99cents included free car charger. Then cost about £4 for P&P to UK.
This trip we have brought 2 Samsungs and a Sony Ericsson. All charge no problem with UK chargers.

I've got a Nokia n95, massive battery drainer and takes ages to charge due to all the features it has (5mp camera, sat-nav etc) but it was fine over there, just my regular charger and a UK-US plug adapter :)

Thanks for the replies - never thought about taking our car chargers:rolleyes1:blush: , will do that, but will need to buy one for DD as her Samsung doesn't have one (brand new phone last week, her pride and joy . . .).

We have 2 of the latest Samsungs (diff models) they are ok with regular mains charger.
