View Full Version : Would anyone like to join me & be a volunteer for the Full Marathon? UPDATE 9/10

I say every year that I should volunteer. I really would like one of those cool jackets the volunteers get! You also get a meal voucher & a one day, one park ticket.
Anyway, I just got the email & I want to sign up a.s.a.p. to get a good shift.
I am thinking of doing something very early so I can be done early & go scream teaming somewhere else on property. I am looking at signing up for the ""1/13/08, Water Stop #2Blue, 3:00 AM - 8:00 AM."
Any WISHers not doing the Full want to join me?
It could be fun to have at least one other WISHer there with me at a water stop.
Krista? Judy? Umm....can't think of anyone else not doing the Full.....

They are very good about working with you to have you with your friends. For DL I had emailed the lady who was handling that so Susan and I were together for the 5K and that Mom and Cathy were together for the 1/2.
So even if after you sign up you find someone I think they'd work hard to get you together.
It's an amazing thing to do. For those that haven't done volunteering for a race it gives you a whole new appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes.
I will keep an eye out for you Krisit on 1/13
Editing to say that I will ALSO keep an eye open for you on 1/12 outside either the Polynesian or Grand Floridian. Leaning towards the Polynesian, there is a rumor their coffee shop has Krispy Kremes LMBO Aaahh the prefer food for the morning before a Full marathon ;) I'll try to memorize some Goo lyrics to sing to you off key ;)

Kristi, that is a great idea! I'll have to really think about this. How did you sign up to volunteer? Is it on the marathon website? I wonder if we could get enough Wisher's to staff a water stop and maybe get to wear our Wish shirts. That would rock!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Ok, I just signed up for the Water Stop #2 RED, 3am-9am.
I was going to do blue since it ends at 8am.
But after much discussion with Chad on the phone now & trying to explain the course map over the phone - we figured out that he is always on the red course. So, red it is for me! Now, watch - they will make him blue this year!
Krista - sign up with me! You can do so on disneysports.com....I will go find a link and get back here a.s.a.p.....
Diane - start working on those lyrics! The Goos greatest hits album(s) are coming out in Sept.! :rotfl:

Kristi, found the link, I think I may sign up. What is a screaming fan? Do you think they have plants along the marathon course to get the other spectators into it? I would LOVE to do chip removal, but I do NOT want to work until 2:00.
Kristi1357
08-13-2007, 09:31 PM
I was going to be a screaming fan also, but the earlier shift seemed better to me. This way, when I am done, I will scoot through Epcot to the Boardwalk or World Showcase to Scream Team for our WISHers as they come down the home stretch. (and yes, I always noticed the 'plants')
DO IT WITH ME!!!!
It will be fun, I promise! :yay:

Kristi - thanks for volunteering for the race! I always appreciate the volunteers so much.
What's the difference between the red and the blue course, and how do they decide which one you go through..?? Hopefully I'll be on your route!

Lemme tell ya... as a first time full marathoner, I will so appreciate a WISHer being a volunteer. And especially ones I know!!! Now let's hope I am on the red!!!!

:rotfl2:
Leana - look at the small Epcot map on the bottom of this page (3rd from the left). If you zoom in 400%, you can see the different routes. I think they divide the course by corrals. Chad has always been in corral B and he has always done the red route. I *think* red may be the first few corrals, and blue the last corrals. Of course, I have no idea what I am talking about!:rotfl2:

Nancy - No rush, obviously. But it would be fun to have more WISHers on the course, don't ya think?

If I remember right, there is only one water stop when the groups are separate. The second one is around mile 4 and the two groups have merged by that point.
The red and blue corrals have both fast and slow runners in them. They alternate bib numbers, 1-100(red),101-2000(blue), 2001-4000(red)... The first year I was in a red corral and the second year I was in blue. I put down the same ending time so I guess you can't really tell.

I did it. I signed up to volunteer. I chose #2 water stop, Red--I hope Stephen's on the red course (he's done blue the past 2 years), but if he isn't I'll see him finish the marathon. I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way, there are a couple of volunteer reports on Robert's website, www.disneyrunning.com, and there is pictorial report that is AWESOME. I can't remember the guy's first name, but his last name is Choi.

After looking at the site, I think the water stop numbers correspond to the mile markers. So #2 red will be somewhere just outside Epcot in the parking lot. This makes more sense (at least to me  )than it being the second water stop on the red course.
Hopefully I can be assigned the proper side so I can get cheered on correctly.

Because WS #22 doesn't have a color I am assuming that I will see everyone:grouphug: . Also I don't have to start till 6:15...
Kristi thank you so much for posting this info, I am so excited about cheering on my fellow wishers and handing them that much needed water or gatorade as they are completeing their journey.
I wonder why all the volunteer times avail are for the full....I didn't see anything for people who want to volunteer for the 1/2???

Kim--For your sake, I hope Disney doesn't run out of water/Power Ade at miles 19 and 20 like they did this past year. I can't even imagine how stressful that must have been for the volunteers. There are 2 different courses (red and blue) for the first 3 miles or so until they merge into one course, so you will get to see everyone at water stop #22. :goodvibes

I might do this if I can get an early time slot (a 3:00am to 8:00AM sounds good). A few questions to my fellow WISHers first: (1) as a first time half marathoner, if I continue to train regularly without set backs to my back and hips recovery, any guesstimates (I plan to ask about post race recovery tips as we get closer to the event) as to how I might be feeling the next day and is it realistic to think I could do this physically; (2) would any WISHers want to risk spending 5 hours with me without the ability to walk/wog/run away; (3) would the WISH shirt be required (mine will probably be on the odiferous (sp?) side and I would rather not spend my Saturday post race basking in a laundry room); (4) As I don't have access at work to the Disney site, could anyone send me information regarding volunteering and verify if #2 waterstop Red is going to be the Team WISH water stop; (5) is some kind of transportation available (I won't have a rental car, but would have no qualms taking a cab they're available); and (6) finally for now -- any other volunteer willing to make sure I am awake after I hit the snooze button several times and probably hang up on Stitch and Mickey (sacriledge I know, but hey it will probably be 2:00AMish).
Any info you guys can provide would be appreciated and I would look forward to being able to spend time with the some of my teammates.

I can tell you from experience, it wasn't great, but I can say with a fair amount of confidence, after the backlash this past year, that will NEVER happen again. It wasn't poor planning on Disney's part, it was the extreme conditions and people taking multiple cups of water or Power Ade. I bet they will have so many supplies in January it will not be funny. :)

NE Bill--Honestly, since this is your 1st marathon weekend, I say you need to enjoy the weekend and on Sunday bask in post half marathon glory and don't worry about volunteering. There will be plenty of other races you can volunteer for, but as this is your first event, enjoy it! I've done 4 1/2 marathons and 1 full marathon and this is my first time volunteering. I think it's time for me to give back a little. And you might be a little sore the next day, but not to the point where you won't be able to walk normally, although I'm not sure how great being on your feet for 5-6 hours will feel. And wearing a Wish shirt is not required, I don't think we'll have an official Wish water stop as Kim and her husband are volunteering someplace different than Kristi and I.

Okay--coming from a veteran, I'll probably heed your advice. I'll either shoot for the EMH morning park or, more likely, just look for scream teamers around BWV or in EPCOT later in the day. (I'll be the big guy with a Donald medal (just keep positive ... just keep positive ...) and probably some kind of NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS shirt. ;))

Bill we will have a rental car...what resort are you staying at??? We are at POP so if we are at the same aid station we would be more then willing to give you a lift.
I know I will be sore on the Sunday also but I was planning on getting there early to cheer everyone anyways so this worked out great.

Krista: I am not yet dismissing your advice, but after further consideration, if free stuff from Disney is involved (like a jacket that might possibly symbolize the 15th Anniversary) it may be too good for me to pass up. Plus, even though it will be my first marathon, I would like to give a little something back, especially if it helps the team. If we have a team water stop and I volunteer, I promise not to wear any of my Patriots gear.
Kim-thank you once again for offerring to risk your reputaion by being associated with me (packet pick-up for ToT and now this). I will be staying at BWV marathon weekend, so I am not sure how convenient it would be for you to pick me up.
So at present, I will not individually volunteer, but will seriously consider it if we have a WISH team water stop.

Yay! Judy's at my water stop too!!! :yay:
I have to tell you guys - I NEVER expected this many people to be interested. This is going to be so much fun!!!!
I am leaving work now, but I will put in an email to Disney sports about the group volunteering thing later today. Right now I have to go do the 'Zack swap' and meet Chad at Barnes & Noble.
Just to make things clear, we have the following already signed up for water stop #2 red:
Kristi
Krista
Judy
Kim & Mike - interested in changing if there are 10 of us.
nepatsfan73 - possibility
Also, maybe if we get alot of people, we could put some at the blue #2water stop. That way we hit ALL our WISHers for sure!
And of course, no matter where any & all of us end up - it will be fabulous!
nepatsfan73 - I am kind of with Krista about enjoying your first marathon weekend. I have seen Chad do the full every year since 2002, so I am kind of over it! :rotfl: But, I totally understand wanting the jacket! ;) Wish shirt would not be required (I don't know if Disney would want us to wear them - I will ask in my email). Chad & I always rent a car, so I am sure we could pick you up on our way to the Epcot parking lot (as well as any other WISHers in need). I am also sure we could all help you wake up too!

This is great, Kristi! It will be sooo cool to see WISH volunteers!
Just a thought, if there's enough people to staff some of those stops between MK and AK and AK and MGM, those might be good places to see familiar faces as our energy might be dragging on those long road stretches between parks.
I'll have to see if my parents would come with us. If they watch DD4, then I can volunteer for the half!

The more I think about it, it might be my only chance to volunteer at the WDW marathon. You guys are all doing the Goofy with me in 2009 and beyond right? ;) (Other than those who may possibly be in a pre-motherly way -- which gives me flashbacks to when I used to feel like a man trapped in a woman's body, but then I was born.)
Let us know what Disney says about a team station. I like the idea of the earlier time as we could finish, make rope drop at EPCOT for Soarin', MS, TT, etc. and still catch WISHer's on the finishing side.

I seriously thought about volunteering for the 1/2--but I think I will just be on the BW cheering on my WISH 1/2er's (might even carry some aid to get ya'll through the last mile!) But with the full the next morning and trying to entertain IL's too--might get a little much for me! Anyone want to join me for an Un-official WISH scream team spot by BC for the 1/2????

Indulge my blonde roots for a minute, but I didn't think the 1/2 marathon course went past the Beach Club. Or does BC stand for something else? When I ran the 1/2 in 2006, the course entered Epcot around the Ice Station Cool and then looped around the Christmas tree and out by guest services for the finish in the parking lot.

Krista - I was thinking that I didn't go by BC last year for the Half. But my brain is mush and I thought it was just me being crazy.
Stephanie - see above posts - you will have to scream team somewhere else. I do remember seeing some WISHers (Cam maybe?) cheering just before we entered backstage at Epcot near The Living Seas. That was a great pick-me-up! I was dying by that point.
Judy - in my vast experience of trying to watch Chad finish the WDW races, I can NEVER get near the finish line. I got kind of close once, was squished up against a chain link fence while waiting forever (and was preggo at the time too). It sucked. I always watch him slightly before the finish, then run down and find him afterwards. And when I find him, I have to fight back the tears (even now after 5 of these races). I think it will be impossible now to go to the finsh with the special VIP viewing area. WAIT! Can we buy into this special viewing area and go there after 9am?

You know the best place (in my opinion) to scream team for the 1/2 is? Mile 8-9 around the Grand Floridian and Polynesian. It's easy to get there (monorail to the Poly and then walk out the parking lot), not a ton of people there, so it's not super crowded, and that's getting to the hard part of the course: the fun of the MK is over and you still have a few miles to go. Stephen and my Dad cheered from there in 2006 and it was HUGE having them there at that point in the race for me. Actually what Dad and Stephen did for Mom and me in 2006 and what Mom and I did for Stephen and Dad in 2007 was drive to Epcot, take the monorail to the TTA, walk out by the dog kennels, this is mile 4, after your runner crosses that point, walk across the TTA into the Poly and across the Poly parking lot, this is mile 8-9, after your runner crosses, walk back to the Poly, monorail to Epcot for the finish. This works for the full as well as it is mile 9, mile 11-12, and then the finish.
Pat--We'll be at the Pop and I'll have a car if you need a ride. Since it's just me (Stephen's taking the provided transportation), I'll have room for 3 or 4 people, depending on how crowded those in the back seat want to be. The only down side is we are checking out of the Pop and into SSR on Sunday, so we won't be driving back to the hotel after the marathon.

Krista - That was a tough spot for me too, over by the GF. There wasn't much over there, except a few characters, I think Mary Poppins and someone else. Right before we got to them was my hardest part. I had just said to Charlie "WHY did I think this was going to be FUN??!?!" I was hurting on that stretch and with no cheering or motivation...it was just a long stretch of quiet. Not good at that point! :guilty:

Stephanie, I will join you for the 1/2 scream team on Saturday!:)
Krista's suggestion by the Grand Floridian is great. I think I remember seeing Jen there last year for the full. Also, I seeing Sara and her girls and then Cam, Heather and Carrie on Main Street in MK during the half was great too!
Let's pick a spot and I am sure we will be able to get a few more to join us for the half Saturday morning.

Oh! I am so jealous! Why would I want to do the full marathon and cover 26.2 miles if I could be part of a WISH scream team and handing out water instead? Oh, now I remember. The cool Mickey medal. One last time.
Okay, so Carrie and Scott and Heather and I had such an amazing time cheering for the WISH 1/2ers last year that I think I am going to do that again.
We were on Main Street until all the WISHers went by and then moved over to just before the entry to EPCOT. It was so great to get to see nearly everyone at both locations and I think I was able to provide almost all WISHers with pix from Main Street and EPCOT entry. Actually, we may have missed some of the fast ones at EPCOT.
And then we were able to get to the WISH meet at the finish. I think the volunteer times listed for the 1/2 would mean not getting to the WISH meet at the end. I showed up there with a cooler full of powerade, sport beans, cold water, energy bars, etc. and had such a great time being at all those places for the WISH team.
When I looked at the volunteer times for the 1/2, I think it would be for the entire time of the race, pretty much, so I guess I'll be on the WISH scream team, instead. What do you guys think? I'm so torn! ;)

I'd originally thought it maybe sounded like a good idea, but since this will be my first half, I think I'll take Krista's advice and just enjoy Sunday. Plus, we have to fly back Sunday afternoon, so I'm going to be rushed anyway and don't know when we'll have to get to the airport yet. So I'll just be part of the scream team and maybe just visit you guys at the water stop!
Also, thanks Krista for the great ideas on where to tell my family to watch the half. I had no idea what to suggest to them, and I knew it was going to turn into drama before Saturday morning with DH demanding that I tell him where to go and me saying "let me ask the WISHer's!"

What do I think??? What do I think!?!?! I think you pretty much SAVED MY LIFE last year after the Half. When I was passed out on the pavement, with handsome young men putting their hands under my WISH shirt...wait, I fail to see the problem here -oh yes - when I was horizontal it was you, Cam, and your little bag of tricks that brought me around. OK, maybe the studly EMTs didn't hurt, but seriously, I was and still am so grateful you were there.
Also, you provided me with the BEST pictures I have from the Half. The pictures you took of Charlie and I on Main Street are on my screen saver and the one of the two of us - me with I think Carrie's medal on - is in our..what do you call that thing - shadowbox/picture frame we ordered at the Expo.
I thought what you did last time really helped make my first ever Half very very special. :goodvibes That's what I think.

Awww, Judy, aren't you sweet? Here I am, feeling so selfish because I'd rather have the pleasure of being WISH scream team instead of volunteering. I had the BESTEST time!!!!
It's funny. Karen and I were talking in Chicago and she said it meant so much to her to have WISH Scream Team support on Saturday, that she stayed at BC/YC cheering on all the full racers until the very last went past (just a few people behind me and poor Rhonda! ;) ) and seemed to know just what I meant about how cheering meant just as much as participating! I can't tell you how the WISHers along the course (including Carrie's family and Kristi and all the WISHers at Y/BC were literally like an energy injection!) And those at Y/BC who offered us nutrition and powerade and water literally kept me on my feet.

The WISH scream team really helped me in the half last year as well. The friend I was "running" with had a TnT shirt on and she kept getting all these cheers. I felt left out....that is until I came up to a group of WISHers. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :grouphug:
Now, for some crazy reason on my part, I'm going to do the full and I know the scream team and the WISH volunteers will help me get through this as well. I won't have family cheering me on so you guys are it!

Has anybody mentioned outside of AK? About mile 18. It's after the long trek to AK, and just before we head to Epcot. It's a great spot if your scream team is not using a day's park admission!! Just take a bus to the drop off, the course goes right by there. And Kevin's suggestion of outside MGM is another great spot if your team is not using a park admission!! My DD cheered for me outside AK, hopped a bus to MGM, cheered me again, and then hopped a bus to Epcotand met me at the finish. It worked out well. Of course I am slow so she had plenty of time to travel between locations:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

PLEASE let me be red too---we'll see what happens as DH and I are going to switch our corral placement at the expo (he didn't want me to include my proof of time until he had one too) Hmm, wonder if they'll let me request red start there???????[/B]
Stephanie--I don't know if anyone posted this or not (if they did, I missed it). When you get to the Expo and show them proff of time, they'll put you in any corral up to the time you show them. So, for example, if you qualify for Corral B, they'll let you go into C, D, E, etc. I found this out in 2006 when they told me that I could pick B or anything above that. So as long as you know which corrals are red, you should be ok.

Krista.... Susan and I are planning on the Polynesian area so thanks for the directions. I was hoping to walk as far as we could before Susan's feet said to stop ;)
BTW, Mom last year for cheering for the 1/2 stopped in at the Polynesian since the MK wasn't open yet. I think she said between 5 and 5:30 am the coffee shop was opening up. She taunted us later with the fact that she had been their as they unboxed the Krispy Kremes LOL
For 1/2 Marathoners wanting to sleep in a bit on Jan 13th you can catch a bus to MGM and catch the Maratoners. I think we arrived around 10 am. There is a crowd but not so much we had no troubles getting to the edge of the course and catching the Team mates. ALSO as you walk towards the ticket/gates for MGM the crowds thin more. Cheerers along the course INSIDE on the Main St area were also rather sparse. We kept moving in until we were almost across from the 'street' that leads to RnR and stayed their till the last racers past.
CAM!!! For the 1/2 Marathoners seeing them at the area were you enter EPCOT was GREAT! I saw Cam, Pat, Carrie and Scott. I'm foggy but I think Heather was there too :) That is another great place to cheer.

Oh, man, I remember how BRUTAL it was between the time we got to AK and the time we got to Y/BC. And I definitely think support after marathoners come out of AK would be incredible. I remember Craig's warning/advice about how bad that stretch would be, so I was very, very prepared mentally and it STILL almost totalled me.
This is amazing. Now, when print the cheat sheet of where to find water & nutrition on the course, I am include on my list where to find WISHers. :cheer2: Rhonda and I talked SOOOO much about her amazing husband who was running from park to park to take pix and hand us fresh water/powerade, etc. :flower3: and the fact that we'd see WISHers at mile 24. :cloud9: IF as we get closer, we can come up with a master list of where there will be WISHers, it would be great to put that into a master list with water stops, etc., print it & laminate it! :woohoo:

It's one of my annual "things" to do this.
I'll be a bicycle mounted paramedic for the full this year again. This way I usually get full access to the entire course. It's really fun to be in he MK at 5 a.m. with hardly anyone else there.
I have worked both the full & 1/2 in years past, but I'm running the 1/2 in '08.
I'll also be doing the same for the triathlon next month.
See ya there!!!!!!!!!!

On a similar note, maybe you all can help me-- I just registered to volunteer for the half, and I just wanted to see if anyone can read the course map better than I can. I signed up for the #4 water stop, which, if I'm reading the map right, looks to be the one near/in Frontierland. Does that look right? I want to be able to meet my husband and kids at MK after my shift-- will I be able to show my park pass and stay, or will I be carted out and have to make my way back under my own steam? Thanks!

I think that water stop is on Topiary Lane before WL. Water Stop #6 looks like it is in/near Frontierland. I am pretty sure the park water stops are always backstage though. Which also means Disney will probably "cart you out!" :rotfl:

Just an FYI to those volunteering or thinking about it. I sent an e-mail to Disney Sports to ask a few questions about volunteering. Per the reply I received, volunteers need to check-in at the WWS Complex and Disney then busses volunteers from there to the appropriate location. Check-out from the shift also occurs at the WWS Complex, at which time volunteers will receive their one day pass for volunteering. There is no Disney transportation provided on site specifically for volunteers to get to and from resorts to WWS.
I am still strongly considering joining the WISH Water Stop #2 (Red) Hydration Warriors. Please let us know when you receive a response about doing it as a group.

Well that's stupid! I'll have a car, so getting to and from WWS is not a big deal, but driving from WWS to Epcot or any other point on property is going to be a pain with the road closures!! Not to mention trying to park at Epcot at 9:30 or whatever time we get there, we'll be parked out in the boonies!
Kim--There is only 1 course for the half marathon. In 2006 everyone started together (it took me 13:00 to cross the start line), in 2007 they had 3 waves at the start, wave A was at 6:00, wave B was maybe 6:15 and wave C was 6:30 I think.

The wave starts were 6:00, 6:10, and 6:30. This was much better than 06 which it took me almost 20 minutes to get to the start line after the gun. With the wave I was up next to the start line and able to see everything going on at the Wave B(6:10) start. It took me me only 30 seconds to cross the start line.
For those in the 6:30 start it is an extra 30 minutes waiting around besides the extra time to cross the start line.

I think somebody....and I won't mention any redheaded names....:rolleyes1 ....should start a list of who's where. I've read thru this thread and I can't keep track. I'm pretty sure the "WISH Water Stop #2 (Red) Hydration Warriors" so far inclues:
Kristi
Krista
Judy
Jim
Bill, come on, just sign up. You know you want to. ;)
BTW, I think we may have a car too. I might be able to drive from POFQ to WWS, then back. But I'm not 100% sure of that yet. I'll keep you all posted.

ahem.... ;)
I was thinking (always a bad thing!) of starting a master thread for Full & Half volunteers as soon as I hear back from disney sports.
Speaking of....since I have been more than a little crazy lately...I did not email the people at disney about this until this morning. I confess, and the Merciful Queen that is Honeibee may bestow her punishment upon me now. :guilty:
As my friend Melissa would say:
Please stay tuned, your call is important to us!

You know, if you two keep this up, you may frighten potential volunteers away. Then again, if it continues until January, water stop #2 (red) may provide some of the best on course marathon entertainment (or at least a back-up from all the marathoners slowing down to stare).

Oh please, I would never fight with Kristi. We're like soul sisters of something. So far the only WDW events I've done were the Half and the Minnie this year and BOTH TIMES I came in right behind her. I'm going to think if I don't see her in front of me at the finish line, something is wrong!
Sorry to disappoint you, boys. You won't see Kristi and I mud wrestling. ;) Not at least until AFTER Jelly Rolls. :rotfl:
OK back to our originally scheduled post.

Is Jelly Rolls where the WISH Half Marathon Marauders are going to continue re-fuelling post Kitchen Sinks at Beaches & Cream? Someone needs to start putting together an itinerary of these events. I would, but at this point I am more confused than anything else. I suppose for the 3:00 AM volunteer shift, its possible to just head straight to check-in at WWS after Jelly Rolls closes. Or would this be a pre-half marathon carb loading event? :confused3

These are all very good questions, Bill! ;)
I have to get a crazy kid out of the tub, but I will address these pressing issues tomorrow.

Ok, if they stick me in the blue corals will I be able to change and go into a RED coral since that will be were our team is????
2nd question: If I collapse at any point along the course how do I contact Judy and Cam to get the hunky hunky guys? I do believe it was Cam that waved them down right?
3rd but really it's an issue and not a questsion.... LEAVE SOME SINKS for AFTER January 13th please! I will either need to refuel or drown my sorrows. Either way I will NEED ice cream :lmao:
And last you... all are CRAZY! Doing Jelly Rolls after the Half and then going directly to the volunteer shifts. As Dave says 'You ain't right!' LMBO But you know it's your faces that will drag us thru the miles. I love the idea that it's not running to mile markers but now we're running towards friends who will just happen to be counting down the miles :)

Ok I just had a YARC moment
I was reading the 'corral placement' question and had seen Pat's reply about being in BLUE with her DH doing the RED Water Stop.
Suddenly I had this vision as all the WISH runners come racing to the RED water stop yelling 'WE WANT THE RED HEAD" :lmao: Judy you might be slightly displaced on Jan 13th LMBO But no worries we shall quickly set you back on your feet ;)
I'm carrying my own water so at Mile 2 I probably won't need water and therefore won't cause a water shortage, but I WILL NEED to see those smiing faces of those sooo dear to us
Pat we'll have to check in at guest relations and plead our cases if we have blue bibs. If we have blue bibs we shall be sooo BLUE *sniffle* perhaps they will feel sorry for us and place us where our hearts are :)

There are four of us WISHers traveling together who would like to volunteer on Sunday (klh-or, rake5, plutopdx and sassparillo). We are all doing the 1/2 on Saturday. Karla - I am trying to get a group of 10 or more WISHers together to volunteer as a group for the Full. We'd love to have you along! Please PM me with your first & last names so I can give the people at Disney the appropriate information. As you can see from previous posts, we are concentrating more on the #2 water stop. This way, we can finish our volunteer duties and still make it to the finish to keep cheering for our teammates.
I am going to call my contact at WDW tomorrow about our team of volunteers. Now that we have 4 more, we definately have enough for a group.
I got everyone of your PMs. I know I haven't responded to most of them. I have also been crazy with planning my best friend's bridal shower (ugh).
I will get back to you all tomorrow - I promise!

This sounds great...I'll run it by my 3 buddies and get back to you. This shift is from 3-9 a.m., right? I'm confused...what are we doing that early since the event doesn't start until 6 am? Three of us are from the west coast so this will be midnight for us! Ha - we didn't plan to sleep much during our time at DW anyway!!
Also, I don't remember PMing you. Do you maybe have me confused with somebody else about that??

OR CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!

WIMPS!
E-bay also has various cow bells, including sampler sets of 4 for approximately $19.00 (plus about $8.00 S&H), as well as official Olympic ones as seen/used at the winter Olympics for skiing and speed skating fans.

Yup! ;)
As for the cow bells, I could go either way. The customized ones would be awesome. I am thinking they'd be pricey though. Bill's idea of the ones from eBay would probably be alot cheaper and work just as well. So, I will go with the majority on this one!

Pat - Oh you made me laugh! They are COW bells, not HORSE bells! HA HA HA! :lmao: Although in hunting season we have been known to wear sleigh bells so we don't get shot when we are riding on the trails.

Well Judy, I just thought that since horses are large animals and cows are large animals that you probably shopped at someplace like Farm & Fleet that would sell products for those type of animals. I am strictly a city girl myself, but there is a Farm & Fleet about 40 minutes away. DH bought horse trough heaters to use in our koi pond during the winter. If you buy the heaters at the pond place the cost is through the roof, but at F&F they are very reasonable. I'll have to get him to take me there and we will look for cowbells.
I can't believe how quickly ToT is approaching, and then right after that is Donald/Mickey in January. Now, if only Disney Sports would announce the plans for spring I would be all set.

Also, I wanted to remind everyone that Kristi (yes, she even spells it the same way) from Disney Sports is out of the office through Thursday. So, I won't hear from her for at least a few days. And I am going out of town Friday morning through the weekend for a bridal shower / bachelorette weekend in PA / NY. So, I very well may not be in touch with her until sometime next week. UPDATE!
I just hung up with Kristi from Disney Sports.
Basically, they do not allow "groups" at water stop #2.
There is no benefit to having a "group" other than being together.
We can simply all sign up for water stop #2 to be together!
So, those of you who have not signed up - go sign up NOW! :cheer2:
I asked if it was ok to wear our lime green WISH gear. She said yes, but that they only ask that you wear the jacket you are given as well. So, for those of us that have WISH hats - that would work great! We could also leave our jackets unzipped as well.
She is keeping my email info and will contact me next year in May or June to see if we are interested in group volunteering for next year.

*Kristi*Thanks for the update. Is anyone signing up for Water Stop #2 Blue. I am partial to the 8:00 AM shift finish time, don't have a "horse in the race" so to speak, and figure we could get at least some WISH coverage at both stops. I don't want to be a lone-WISHer though (the reason I am signing up is to spend some time with my WISH-peeps), so I just thought I'd check so I can decide between Red or Blue.

This has probably been covered but I'm not finding it. We are staying at Pop. How do we get from there to where we need to be at 3 am? Do I remember seeing that we actually go to WWS and get shuttled to our stations from there? So, how do we get from Pop to WWS? Will buses be running? Even though it's close, you can't walk it, right? (Obviously I'm not only a 1/2 marathon newbie but this is also my first time to DW! Now, if you want to know anything about DisneyLAND, I'm your go to person...)

And another question... If we do the red #2 water station, we can just walk from there after our shift to catch the runners closer to the finish line, right? On the map they look pretty close together. However, I've got absolutely no concept of how big all of this is anyway, so "close" is a relative term!
Our shift is over at 9, and we could actually expect some runners to start crossing the finish line around when? If we're done at 6 am, is there time to go back to Pop and take a nap, and get back to the finish line to cheer?
I'm not "getting" how a person gets around that morning because I'm guessing roads are closed, etc.
Thanks for your help!!
