We were to leave from Logan(Boston)airport at 7am on 4/12 on Delta express. Guess what? Flight is cancelled! So they say we can go on standby, yeah right! For 2 adults and our 4yr old DS, I don't think so! We standby while 2 other flights go out and we find out ALL flights are OVERBOOKED! So whats the sense of standby and there are no other airlines available. So we head back home to re-group. Now the only flight we can get the next day are 3 first class tickets on continental(I forgot to add we are going for a wedding and staying at Disney is an after thought, so we are committed to going or is it we should be committed???) So now I'm out $2100.00 bucks for one way tickets first class to Tampa, no less(there is nothing available into Orlando)
We contact Disney with the day changes, they were quite helpfull and very nice to deal with. Could it really be getting better? It sure does and our luck is changing for the better.....Yeah!
We arrive in Tampa WOW it's beautiful weather, very warm far from the 4-6 feet of snow we have had in New Hampshire. We hop in a rental car from Avis(good car at a good price)We head for Disney, now remember we are a day late so where do you think our luggage has been? You guessed it at Orlando Intl. airport, or will it??
Now we are on a mission, first stop is Disney to check in at PO Riverside. Wow what a feeling you get just driving onto the property, that Magical feeling and I'm 40. We check-in and of what little we first saw it's simply beautiful!
We have a quick check-in, now we head for Orlando Airport for the luggage. I'm looking for 5 pieces of luggage hmmmm what a surprise Delta only has 3 pieces together, but I had marked my baggage special for just this type of problem, I find the other 2 pieces in other rooms very quickly, like I said I was on a mission!(Now you must understand I'm a Sergeant on Police Dept. in NH so I'm use to the obstacles, just another challenge to overcome) Now we head for Sanford FL for a rehearsal dinneranother hours drive. After that we head back to Disney it's now 10PM when we arrive at PO Riverside.
(special note: My wife of nearly 17 years and my 4 yr old were really great during this)
Now I had read alot of posts about special requests, but I decided to take my chances as this was our first trip. I could,n't have planned it any better.
We were in room 8917 at Magnolia Terr. on the third floor a corner room at the stairwell. The room though small was quaint, very clean and very quiet, I was extremly satisfied!!
On Saturday Am we drove to MGM to spend a few hours since we would have to drive back to Sanford for the wedding at 2PM. I was in heaven of of this whole Disney experience, I felt like a kid again, ok a kid again with a few aches and pains. We get back to PO Riverside after the wedding and decide to relax and take it easy for the rest of the night.
Now I know you must be a bit bored by now so I'll get to the good parts except to say I found one of my uncles who come to find out is one of the the guest service manangers at Magid Kingdom, where was he when i needed the free tickets and room discount?? Oh well, he assured me next time we go which will be in September 2001 we get the family discount, well at least I hope so.
we spent the next 3 days at the Parks what a great time even with the large amount of people, we went to magic Kingdom 3 times all the rest once, however I never got to Downtown Disney which I had really wanted to do, but just so little time with so much to do.
We had a rental car and I had read alot about the bus situation(change) so we drove ourselves everywhere which seemed to be the quickest way to get around. We didn't use the bus even once.
In closing, clearly I have found a new home at Disney, Do you think they would adopt me?? Wishfull thinking on my part. The Best part I got to spend it with my family which made the experience that much better.
See you guys in September when it's my DS fifth Birthday!!

The wedding was small but very nice, But to tell you the truth I wanted it to get over quickly so that I could take in all of Disney. Thankfully it was a quick wedding and reception or at least I made it that way....hahahaha. Hey is it September yet? Darn it's still only April!
Oh well I at least have something to look forward to.......Yippppppeeeeee

I'm glad you finally made it on a flight to Florida! I'm sure that was frustrating. It sounds like you had a really good time though. Hopefully it will be smoother next time!

So how did you like Tampa? Well, the parts you drove through on the way to WDW anyway. lol. I hope you didn't hit bad traffic leaving the airport! (a rarity)
