More than meets the eyes! :rotfl2: That was for my boys and all you Transformers fans (you know who you are). ;)

With 13 days to go, I thought it best to begin this pre-trip report. According to Fuzzy Disney Math (FDM) I only have about 4 days left since I have one paycheck remaining before the trip and we don't count today, the day we leave, the day before we leave, and weekends. Oh, my children track out of school next week (year round) and are going to grandaddy's for the week, so that's a little vacation before the vacation; therefore, only 4 more days!!! :cool1:

Now, the reason for the title:
1. It's funny.
2. It's creative.
3. In looking over the clothing for this trip, I notice that most of the lime green has disappeared from our wardrobe. But with lime being so popular, we can't readily spot DISers. AND how many DISers don't even wear lime green? How many of us are DIS Boarders, Tourists in Disguise?

So on with some history. In March 2006, I decided that this would be the year to finally take my family to the World. (My children were having a really stressful school year: bullying, bad teacher, etc so now was a good time.) Since I had been twice in the 70's and once in 1986, that made me an expert. I really really wanted to stay on site at the CR or the tree houses. Whew, was I ever smacked into next week with some sticker shock!!! We ended up staying off site at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird (pass judgement if you will) and still had a wonderful trip! My DH only wanted to go for 5 days because he didn't know he would have so much fun. :sad2: Well, I planned that trip in two weeks, we all fell in love with Disney, and this will be our 5th trip in 17 months. We went last year during free dining, and were joined by 6 of the in-laws. :scared: You can read all about the 2006 Summer Sanitarium Tour over on the completed TR board. That trip was last August, but was supposed to be a September birthday trip but was moved so that the poor unfortunate cousins could join us. We decided to go again 3 weeks later in September. WE experienced Easter with the Mouse this year, and experienced the DVC by renting points, Even though I haven't gotten to this in my incomplete trip report, we are now proud owners of our % of the interest at AKV! :woohoo:

The timing of this upcoming trip was a bit tricky. We only planned to go if free dining was announced. However, my children's school was one of the 44 in our county to be converted to year round. We had to select our track preference at the beginning of March. We choose one of the two tracks that fell in the middle of the free dining for last year. Yes, we selected a school calendar based soley on Disney trips. :upsidedow Anyhow, it all worked out great, and we will be there 8/25-9/4. We are staying at POR (even though I still need my CR fix) and then moving over to VWL for the last two nights because AKV was all booked. However, this is one part of the trip that still isn't finalized. Should we use points to stay at CR MK view instead of VWL? WL is my "yes, I'd like to stay there someday" while CR is my "I wish we could stay there this trip" place which I say every trip. You know, if we added up all the $$ we have spent for the 5 trips, we could have just stayed at the CR.  But we like to go more often. So, the decision: should we or should we not stay at the CR using DVC points? It would be the $ equivalent of using a 40% off code. Oh and let me point out that I know about the CR DVC rumor, but I don't want to wait two or so years.

Up Next: The cast and the reason for this particular week in August.

I affectionately refer to my family as The Loud Family beacuse they are LOUD! There's just no other way to put it. They will talk to anyone and everyone. They're all about meeting new people and are all over them like white on rice and they all become chatty and loud. I don't know where they get it from because I am somewhat shy and reserved and I don't to make a specticle of myself in public. So who are these Loudies and where did they come from? We live in Raleigh, NC. All except were born here. I am from a town 45 miles east of Raleigh, so I am more "kuntry" than the rest of my family. None of us really have southen accents compared to other folks from this area. However, some of my dear DIS friends are convinced that I sound like Joy from My Name is Earl. I've been working on that accent for them. :thumbsup2

Without further ado, here they are:

DS7: Mr. Clean. This is the sweetest little boy who gives the best hugs and kisses. He loves to clean, loves to cook, and loves order. Mr. Clean had two rough years in school. During our last trip we took him off Straterra (similar to Ridlin) and he is now drug free. Except that he drinks coffee. Weird, I know. We gave it to him one morning this past April, and he had a great day at school. We continued to give it to him every morning for the remainder of the school year and he got a sticker everyday. DH took him to the Dr. and the DR said if coffee works, then give him coffee. It won't stunt his growth, and if coffee fixes his chemical imbalance for now, then go with it. So, our little guy has his own coffee cup, his own creamer, and he knows how to start the coffee in the mornings. He also makes some killer scrambled eggs.

DD7: Pippi (twin to DS7). Pippi marches to her own beat. She dresses like Punky Brewster and wants to be a Superstar. She has been practicing her handprints for when she is famous. Pippi asked me one time if we could move to California. Oh, should I mention that her name is Holly?

DS10: DS9. Even though he is 10, I still call him DS9 because it means Deep Space 9. DS9 has Asperger's and is mostly absorbed in thought. He has probably already solved many mysteries of the world. Hey, maybe he knows where Elvis is? :lmao: DS9 is very sweet and very smart. He gets focused on one topic and has trouble redirecting to another topic. Sort of like how I am with Disney. :rolleyes1 Anyhow, DS9 will just blurt out whatever is on him mind. Sometimes it's not funny, but sometimes it is. Like when we are walking through the FP line, he will bellow, "don't those people know how to use the FP machines?" :lmao:

DH: 34, Mr. Slaw. This was his nickname for my last TR. I'll use it for now until a better one comes along. Mr. Slaw is my computer geek, video gamer, and all around nerd. He likes all those Sci Fi shows and British stuff like Dr. Who and Monty Python. Mr. Slaw doesn't like sports. How in the heck did I manage to marry to one guy who doesn't like sports? Oh well, I still love him.

This brings me to me! I'm a 36 year old Disney fanatic. I have OCDPD (obsessive compulsive Disney planning disorder). I love my family, Disney, and sports. I recently made some changes in my life which has made me a healthier and happier person. I did my duty as a SAHM, did the volunteer thing, won the volunteer of the year award, etc. After our first trip, I realized that I needed to get a job to afford more trips. Yes, I work for the Mouse. So, I temped for a year while looking for a permanent position. I had lots of interviews, but I'm not good with interviews. I'm sure that a lot had to do with my size. I just hoped that my performance as a temp would allow me to prove myself. Well, the day after our April trip, I had a new temp assigment and they liked me enough to offer me the position permanently. I had been wanting to join Nutrisystem, but I could not afford to do so working off and on. So my reward for the perm job was Nutrisystem. So far I have lost 17 pounds. I expected to be further along, but I'm happy with 17. I guess I think I am still 18 years old and can drop 20 pounds in a month. :confused3 Yes, my goal was to have 50 gone by this trip especially since I promised the Loud children that we would hit the water parks this time. July was not very diet friendly for me. I fell off the wagon two weekends, and my mom had surgery, so I ate out a lot. I tried to make good choices but.....oh and let's through in some PMS munchies....oh and I started exercising so I guess I gained some muscle mass. I used to speed skate, so I had some serious thunder thighs. I knew when I started to exercise that those big muscles would come back. Let's see, thunder thighs or heart attack? So, I'm now back in the groove, I ride the exercise bike 13 miles everyday, and I am feeling healthier and happier. Wow, this certainly turned into the "me" show.

I'll take a break then give ya'll the details of the trip. :hourglass

I had been invited to join dear DIS friends for a girls night at Kona on 8/25. We had not nailed down our dates as we did not yet have our track assignment. I decided to go ahead and plan for the last week in August and began making ADR's. We wouldn't truly know our track until July 9th, the first day of school. The past few months have been very stressful for Wale County parents. First the school board made the decision for the mandatory year round. Well, a group of parents sued the school board and a judge said that since we have law that school can't start before 8/25, then year round has to be voluntary. So letters were mailed to all parents and we selected to go YR, they had to count, make adjustments, wonder if our school would still be YR, and wait for track assignment. And even when we got our track, some schools didn't have enough kids for certain grades per track, mostly 5th grade. Like at one school, there is no 5th grade on track 2. There again, I could not get excited until the first day of school. On the meet and great, DS9 only had 15 kids in his class, so I was worried they would split them up among the other tracks. But all is great, and that reallt gave me just a few weeks to seriously plan. I did do some pre-planning. Like ADR's, resort selection, travel options, tickets options, park planning, etc. Well bascially I planned as if we did have our assignment and we came to two conclusions: if our track changed, we would either change our trip dates, or tell the school, sorry, we made these plans and since you couldn't get your act together, we are going anyhow. ;) Luckily we didn't have to carry out that threat.

ADR's:
Back at the 180 day mark, I made ADR's for 12 (in case the in-laws crashed our party)

Resort:
This wasn't so easy. Again I wanted my beloved CR, but only MK view will do. Too pricey and no counter service (renovations). :sad1: I also wanted to splurge on the Poly, but then our fridge died. No Poly. :sad1: Not many other options for a family of 5. It was either 2 value rooms, cabin, or POR. AND to DVC at the end or not. So, the resort selection process:

1. Pop- 2 rooms, but we have stayed here already, even though we love POP
2. All Stars- 2 rooms, any would do (suites not part of free dining)
3. POR- already stayed here, not my favorite resort; it's not the CR!
4. Cabins- $$, look fun, but with free dining we don't need the kitchen, maybe a future trip.
5. Split stay? Nah, would have to buy two sets of tickets.

So, I decided on POR because this will probably be the last time that we can stay in one room. With a 10 year old and two soon to be 8, two rooms are going to be a must in the near future (reason for buying DVC).

With the resort selected, it was time to finalize ADR's, but that required committing to a plan. I just can't plan every minute of everyday and I can't handle unlimited possibilities. I need fewer choices. Plus I had put this trip on the back burner with the school situation.

:woohoo: on DVC, going back to work is paying off :thumbsup2

I can't believe it's only the kids that are loud, I'll find out soon :rotfl2:

You're family sound great so sorry they had some hard times at school and well done with the weight loss and 13 miles on the bike everyday :faint:

Didn't really understand the school stuff but glad it worked out :rotfl2:

Can't wait for more, that's if it's in the next 5 hours :lmao:

I mentioned that I am meeting some DISers at Kona. What I failed to mention is that there will be adult beverages involved: 21 Lapu Lapu's to be exact. This should make for a very entertaining evening. I did not warn these ladies that when I drink, my hearing goes. Hmmm, there's my sign. Maybe that's why my children are loud? Anyhow, I am looking forward to meeting PrincessV, Disneyland_Mama, DisneyJo, and Laurelee131. These are 4 very funny ladies, and Kona will never be the same. So, as it stands now, here is The Plan:

8/25 10:00 Flight from RDU to MCO, should land at 11:30. I'm guessing to be at POR by 1:00
Goof off until room is ready.
Meet DL Mama and ride over to Kona
Watch electric parade

8/26- Brace yourself: unplanned morning. Can you believe it? Actually , it is unplanned for a reason. I don't know if we have to check out of POR and check back in for free dining. Then we will need to possibly upgrade tickets to AP's. (depends on future trips)
Remainder of AM and afternoon is unplanned.
4:45 meeting DisneyJo at 50's PT....lots of pictures to come....we may need a translator!

8/27- Again, unplanned AM. Maybe water park, who knows?
5:45- meeting DISers who I don't even know at Le Cellier for supper. Why? Well, I had an ADR for 12. I didn't want to risk cancelling and not being able to rebook for 5 so I looked for people posting on the wanted/cancellation thread and invited them to join us. Is this completely whacky? Absofreakinlutely! But, hey why not? I have exchanged PM's with the two other DISers and they seem weird enough for me!!!

8/28- Still up in the air. Do you see a pattern here? Yep, I'll admit it. I don't have a plan. :faint:
Either we will go to DTD or water park. Possibly PP party this night.

8/29- Hey, here's some structure:
AM-MK
PM-Epcot. We are meeting DL Mama and her crazy family for supper at Marrakesh. Plenty of photos to follow.....

8/30- a very rigid day...AK

8/31- depends on 8/28

9/1- beats me

9/2 haven't got a clue

9/3 your guess is as good as mine

9/4 sleep in and go home

That my friends is Disney planning at its best!!!! :sad2:

I have had to force myself, and I mean literally force myself to commit to some ADR's. The ones I made for 12 aren't necessarily what I wanted, but they were easy for a large group. I have since gone back and tried to rework the dining options. I keep reading menus, then get hungry, look for something to munch on, go do something else, then come back. It's a vicious cycle. So far, I have the following:

8/25 Kona for ladies night
8/26 50's PT with the DisneyJo Family (was supposed to be Tepp)
8/27 Le Cellier with mystery DISers
8/28 Currently have Raglan Road but may cancel if going to the PP party
8/29 CRT for breakfast, Marrakesh for supper with DLMama and family
8/30 Luau
8/31 Tony's or may just counter if going to PPP
9/1 Le Cellier and late ADR at Calif Grill just for dessert and wishes
9/2 LTT
9/3 OHana breakfast
9/4 Breakfast at WCC, late lunch at LTT

The above plans are not set in stone. The Loud family loves breakfast, so I may try to squeeze in breakfast at Boma, CP, and CM. I don't know, I can't decide. :headache:

Anyhow because of the Tepp carp, we did the VIP viewing for Illuminations on 8/27. :yay:

Sounds like you have a great trip planned; I'm so jealous that you get to have a girls' night out!

Can't wait to see the pictures when you get back! I'm also looking forward to hearing about how the DVC came about. We are also a family of 5, and the number of points needed was a little scary for us.

We are using 22 points per night for VWL. It's those Fri and Sat that really jack up the point total.

Hey S'late...how many points for the stay at CR?:confused3 Ok, here's a little story...back when we stayed at the Poly, last December, it cost us 2 years of points...310 if I remember right.

It may just be me and Tony's thinking, but after staying at SSR, we were kicking ourselves that we used all those points on a "regular" room when we could have stayed in a villa, KWIM? Again, could just be us, but we've found that we really prefer the DVC resort "way" of staying vs. staying in a "regular" hotel room...

We would rather have done one of 2 things - but of course hindsight is 20/20: 1) stay in a 2 bedroom with all those points:thumbsup2 OR B) have 2 vacations instead of one...

I'd just think carefully about it and really compare the number of points you'd have to use...

And where is V? :rolleyes1

Hmmmmm....V??? Where are you??:confused3

I've been dying to call her all week and see if I interrupt her TOO, but I never know when she'll be working, etc...maybe this weekend....pirate:

Thanks for the advice LL! Two nights at CR MK view is 86 points. It comes out to a little less than than current codes. I can't justify spending $700 oop when we have points that we are already paying for. We will not use all of this year's points anyhow, but may still spend a few in CA. The rest will be banked for next year for a big family trip. Oh, I just can't decide!!!!

I am already at WDW! But when I look around, I don't see WDW. :confused3 I got paid yesterday, today doesn't count, weekends don't count, and the Loud children are gone next week, so technically I should be somewhere near Disney. I am so desperate to be in the World, that I would even endure that Stitch chili dog smell right about now.

Oh well, I guess in the meantime I will continue with this PTR.

Travel:
Mr. Slaw and I have come to the conclusion that driving wastes too much time, so flying is the way to go. Not that we may not drive in the future, but we would lose two days of work to drive so that plus gas, food, um hmm extra hotel nights, etc amounts to more than 5 round trip tickets on Southwest from RDU to MCO.

Oh all my decisions, this was the easiest!!! :cool1:

Slate,
I'm getting in on your version of the world full of DISsers, too. I cannot wait to hear about Kona. You ladies go and have an amazing time (and feel free to ship a Lapu or two via overnight mail to little ol' me;) )

The Loud children, Waldo and belly dancing...this is going to be good.

:thumbsup2 Love it!
Even though I haven't gotten to this in my incomplete trip report, we are now proud owners of our % of the interest at AKV! :woohoo:
  Welcome Home!!!

Yes, we selected a school calendar based soley on Disney trips.
Wouldn't we all, given the choice?! :rotfl:

Oh and let me point out that I know about the CR DVC rumor, but I don't want to wait two or so years.
Uh-huh.... just wait till addonitus strikes. And strike it will. ::yes::

I did not warn these ladies that when I drink, my hearing goes.
This works out well - LL and I get louder with each drink! :thumbsup2

8/27- Again, unplanned AM. Maybe water park, who knows?
Hey, we'll be at TL! I think. Unless DS decides SSR's pool is better.
:lmao: I can't wait to hear about this!
9/1- beats me

9/2 haven't got a clue

9/3 your guess is as good as mine
:rotfl2: That's my schedule, too! I keep forgetting to tell you - DS and I are hitting the Poly for Labor Day Weekend :woohoo: Yes, 4 days after our Kona weekend. We're going with no plans at all and we'll just see what looks good. DLM should have a field day with THAT news

Only 86 point? That's not bad...
FWIW, I've managed to use up all my 2007 points and have borrowed 1/3 of my 2008 points. Since I bought in May. If you're SURE you won't need them, I say Go for CR! :cheer2:

We have a late breaking change of plans. When I made the DVC reservation, I really really wanted to stay at our home resort, but there was no room at the inn. I put us on the waiting list anyhow. I called 2 Saturdays ago and debated on removing us from the list. I had completely given up hope and was on the phone again this past Sat and low and behold!!!!!!!! We are now spending our last two nights at AKV!!!!!! :yay: I did have to make a few minor changes to our ADRs as they were based on proximity to VWL. Oh well!!! :woohoo:

Yep - 8/27, bright and early(ish)! We'll have to hit the road home before rush hour traffic kicks in.
I must admit, I haven't done enough research on water park etiquette...So do you just leave your stuff on a chair unattended?
We did and had no problems. Just took any valuable stuff - money, credit cards, camera - with us whenever we left the chairs. Of course, we always had someone who wasn't getting wet, but they do have lockers there, too.
Wow! The Poly!!! On points????
No - I've only got 130 points per year. The Poly'd suck almost all of them up! :rotfl: I got a GREAT AP rate, though :thumbsup2

This trip started out just as all others:

1. We packed too much.
2. I bought too many snack bars.
3. We stayed up all night packing. Hey, wait a minute! We didn't stay up all night this time! Woo hoo!! :woohoo:
4. Southwest was on time.
5. The boys fought over the window seat.
6. Pippi talked during the entire flight.

Not only was this a vacation vacation, but this was also a vacation from my diet (which I am regretting). Anyhow, first stop, BoJangles for a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit! And it was soooooo good! Next stop: RDU airport. Nothing exciting; no drama. We did have boarding passes in the "A" group this time, but we still managed to be like # bazillion in line. We just hung to the side and talked with a lady a wheel chair. SW loaded the families with small ones, then came for the wheelchair lady. The loader asked if we were all together, and I said yes without even thinking. But then it hit me: did he mean me, dh with the children or the 5 of us with the wheelchair lady? :confused3 Oh no! What to do, WHAT TO DO? Ehhh, the wheelchair lady grew up 10 miles from me; I'm sure we are related. ;) Anyhow, we selected the first row and settled in for the stares we would receive from the other loading passengers. Since we took the leg room row, we received some particular nasty looks from two very tall gentlemen. Well, those seats aren't that great, we had no tray table. Ordinarily I wouldn't go into much detail about a plane ride, but this particular flight was great. We had the best flight assistant or whatever the PC term is. She was just fantastic. First she said she was dimming the cabin lights because she looks better in softer light, then she said if you are with children, put your mask on first, and if you are with adults who are acting like children, just ignore them. At the end of the flight, she said she was taking marriage applications for the single attendants and then sang a song that ended with, "if you marry one of us you fly for free." She was a hoot! In between runway and runway, Pippi talked then entire time. The clouds were some sort of Bahama castle with princesses and unicorns and Lord knows what. As we were approaching MCO, she got louder and louder: I SEE EPCOT, I SEE THE GIANT BALL, I SEE MGM, I SEE...., I SEE...., I SEE... :upsidedow

Huh?! No WAY!!! Ya know, my brother and I are HUGE Transformers fans and I thought the movie was gonna be sucky because they don't look like the toy Transformers and why did they have to change Bumblebee; but we ended up really enjoying it, which I thought was a big part due to Shia's acting, but I still thought the Decepticons looked gay. So this will be very interesting to see a sequel, thanks for the info S'late (and your boys)!
