Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

I decided I'm just going to jump right in here and introduce myself!

I'm "in training" to walk the 1/2 marathon with two girlfriends and my 19-year-old daguhter. I'm also very overweight, 50 years old, but determined to work hard to make this dream come true for myself. I am walking faithfully 4-5 days a week with increasing distance, and I'm also going to Weight Watchers. My plan is starting September 15 to begin the about.com 1/2 marathon training schedule, and between now and then I'm working on reaching that recommended "comfortable" level at walking 3 miles 3 times a week and 4 miles on my 4th day. I'm doing that distance now without much effort, but later in the fall I'm going to really need to work on my speed in order to avoid the dreaded sweepers!

So, my plan for this week is 4 miles Sunday, 3 miles Tuesday and Thursday, and then I'm going to do a 10k volkswalk on Saturday (leisurely pace).

One thing I'm finding is when I walk with my dog (which is most of the time), who is a very athletic, long-legged doberman/lab guy, I do walk faster. Gosh, sure wish I could bring him to DW with me!

Question: How does one "officially" join the WISH racing team. Would love to see my name in that long and impressive list! I ordered a t-shirt and a sweatshirt...does that make me "official?"

Thanks for all of the inspiration I get from all you in reading these threads!

Karla--Well, first there's the membership fee, and then of course the hazing----Just kidding:rotfl2: --you're in!!! Glad to have you join us! please continue to post and update us on your training progress!:thumbsup2

Wow, congrats to all those with LW/LRs this morning. And what's this I hear about some of ya'll getting a blast of cooler air????? We may get a break sometime next week--meaning in the 90s instead of 100s.

WWDave--Congrats on your race! I'm am always amazed at how fast you race walk! Impressive!!!

Well, today was a nice rest day after the 16 on Friday--not too much residual pain from it. Still debating what to do tomorrow. I'll probably do the 4 miler scheduled on friday that I switched out for the LR. Then off to work I go! Have a great rest of teh weekend all!

WISHing all the CDCer's the best of luck tomorrow! We're with you in spirit!

Hi Karla. Welcome! If you're here, you're part of the group. We're very friendly and supportive and love to have new members join us. Pay homage to our reigning Queen Judy and you'll be just fine!;)

Nancy - Bummer about the blister. After this year's WDW full, I had an ugly purple blister around my middle toe. Yuck! Eventually lost the toenail, but it did grow back.

Beth - Great job on the 15 miles.:cool1:

I'll be anxiously waiting to hear how our CDC WISH-ers made out.

Vic - you faked me out. I opened the thread expecting to see Mel's post and there you were - starting us off this week!

:welcome: Karla! You are now officially part of the WISH team. All you have to do is state a willingness to join. We love new members. Mel (Chimera) or Vic (BigVic) will add you to the list. This is such a great group. Keep checking in and letting us know how your training is coming. Don't forget to add in a little cross-training to your plan, such as biking or elliptical or swimming or strength training. It will help improve your fitness overall.

Sending tons of :wizard: and happy thoughts to our CDC participants! Good luck everyone! We can't wait to read the trip reports and see all the photos from the WISH meets and the race. We all WISH we could be there with you in person, but we are with you in spirit. Go WISH Team Go! :cheer2:

My DH had neck surgery yesterday morning, but he is doing great now. He got to come home around 1 p.m. today. I think his being a marathon runner has helped speed his recovery immensely. We took a stroll around the block tonight. He is hoping to walk the 1/2 with me in January. The Goofy is out for him, but as long as his arm and neck pain go away, we are willing to make that sacrifice.

Good luck to everyone on your LRs this weekend. Stay cool and hydrated in all this heat.

Ok, just a quickie to post a great deal in case anyone is interested.
I found this on another message board & thought someone here might appreciate it too:

This is a set of 12 of her DVDs that was $179 - for $19.99

In the original post for the shirts, there were pictures of what was available, including a crew neck sweatshirt and a hoodie. I requested a hoody and a tshirt. I "think" that's what I'm getting??!!

WOW - what a deal! I just paid $30 for the 1-2-3 mile DVD and the 4-mile DVD. Glad I haven't taken the wrappers off! I really like Leslie Sansone. Being in Oregon, I'm thinking a fair amount of my training from about Nov-Jan will have to include the treadmill and Leslie. I feel like I get a very brisk workout with her DVDs and hopefully that will even help me increase my walking speed. Here's the link I used (yours took me to the page but not quite to these DVDs): http://www.gaiam.com/retail/product/90-9050

Stephanie - A blast of colder air was one way to put it for the weather on my long run this morning. 43 deg F :cold: I had to dig out the winter running tights and my wool socks!

I wound up running 6.2 mi in 1:09:43 for an 11:15/mi pace. The path I was out on was also the site of an ultramarathon at the same time! Wow, kudos to anyone attempting a 42.2 km race..!! I also fit in some upper body weights in the afternoon after the run. The good news is summer has made its way back around here, but the highs are reasonable in the mid 70s instead of the crazy heat we've had the last few weeks.

On Monday I'm going to try active release to help me out with my tight hip issues and piriformis pain. Has anyone tried active release before? My boot camp instructor recommended this fellow to me.

KRISTI!! thank you for such a fantastic tip!! i just ordered a set and sent the link to some of my friends. for $15 i'm fine to just wait and see which ones are included :teeth: i have one of those pictured, but anything of the set that is duplicate i can take to my consignment store for resale ::thanks::

:welcome: KARLA!! i admire your motivation and commitment to change your life!

i got a 6.25 miler in yesterday before a day spent shopping and dining and watching Harry Potter. it was a fantastic day, we were kidless!

anyhow -- i've been frustrated that my pace is NOT where i thought it was in my nice little world i lived in before Garmin. do you all have tips for speeding myself up a bit. i wasn't sure if it is the 10 lbs extra i'm carrying, the 4 beers i had the night before, or all the above. I have been doing speed intervals twice a week, only for a week or two though. maybe i just need to give it time. i was doing 4 mins/1 mins intervals for 40 mins. it normally takes me 2 miles to feel like i'm in my groove and pace, how can i jumpstart myself to get right into it?

you all are the bestest!

PD for speedy recovery for Heather's DH!

Morning teammates. I'm in a foul mood this morning. I had to scrap my run this morning--and am not happy about it. DS decided that 5:30am was the perfect time to try to wake the neighbors with his blood curdling screams. Turns out nothing was wrong-except he was ready to get out of prison, I mean bed, and play. DH hurt his back running yesterday, yes, PD needed for him, so I was on kiddo duty. And to top it off, it's actually pleasant here this morning, at least for Aug. Mid-70s and not so much humidity--it will, however, be over 100 when I get home from work this afternoon-So no hopes of an afternoon jog. Oh well! Better luck next week!

Thinking of all the WISHers out on the road this am--especially the CDCer's! GO WISH GO!!

Heather--lots of PD to your DH for a speedy recovery. Wow, that he went for a walk the afternoon after surgery.

ohMom--I've increased my speed gradually over the past year, and now run about a minute faster per mile than this time last year. I try to do at least one speed workout or tempo run per week. With the speed workout, I do 4X800 reps at pretty much as fast as my legs will allow, with a nice walk recovery break between reps. And the tempo run, is just at a pace that's a little faster than my comfortable pace. You'll see it posted that the only way to run faster, is to run faster. You have to train your body to go a little faster--go slowly and you should notice some results! Good luck to you!

Vic--Thanks for getting us started in a new week!

Leana--Holy Cow on the weather! That's my ideal weather for marathon training--Might come up for a visit!

Okay, better check on the kidlets--as now both of them are up. Have a great Sunday all!

Leana and ohMom - WTG with the 6 milers! :thumbsup2

Good Morning Team

Karla :welcome: You have come to the right place. There were so many times I wanted to give up in the past year, but I would come here and read and whine and they would inspire me and push me through!!

Heather MUCH pixiedust: for your husband!! We definately know about surgery recoveries!!!

Stephanie MUCH pixiedust: for Scott too!! And I am SOOOO sorry about your run I know how frustrating that is.

Leana I can NOT even begin to fathom those kinds of temperatures right now!!:scared1:

OhMom I'm sorry you are so frustrated!! :grouphug: I can say for me it seems like we ran at the same pace FOREVER, and then it just started kicking in. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but I just want to encourage you to keep trying. I can say it also took quite a few runs of DH pushing me to go faster, so hard that I was cussing him under my breath, but it worked.

So training report: I ran 4 miles twice this week and have been very frustrated with my lack of being able to get out there, either because of work, or when I finally go to get out there, IT"S THUNDERSTORMING.

So I woke up early yesterday morning (huge deal for me -- I don't run in the mornings, except race days) and I ran 5, then I went to the gym and did 1/2 hour core class, then PUMP class (weight lifting). So that was good, but the best part is this morning;

I got up -- later than I wanted -- so the heat was kicking in, but I did 6 MILES !!!  for the first time since MINNIE!!

MY back is killing me right now, but I really have seen an improvement in that area too!!

Gotta go jump in the shower and get ready for church.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Ok Pretty Princesses of WISH, you have to stop wearing out your men.

Good morning Team, happy Sunday.

Here is your "YARC" treat for the day:

HOW TO CLEAN THE HOUSE

1. Open a new file in your PC .

2. Name it 'Housework.'

3. Send it to the RECYCLE BIN.

4. Empty the RECYCLE BIN .

5. Your PC will ask you,

'Are you sure you want To delete Housework permanently?'

6. Calmly answer, 'Yes,' and press mouse button firmly......

7. Feel better?

Everyone enjoy your rest and recovery day and CDC Racers, the WISH shirt is magic.

Okay everyone. Stand away from your monitors in case lightning strikes. I actually have training to reort. (Lookout Skywalker Dave, here I come.:darth: ) Tues. and Wed. I walked 1.25 miles. Yesterday I walked 1.5 miles. I hope to get in a LSW (although I still think LSD sounds better) tonight. This is the first week I have been able to get in back to back walks and more than two walks in a week without the hips or back acting up. So far, pace is about 20 minute miles. (I guess SW Dave (and all the WISH-lets out there) are safe ... FOR NOW!)

I am currently doing a modified 5K plan combining Hal Higdon's 5K walking plan and John Bingham's 5K walking plan. After completing that, I will continue with a half marathon walking plan to be ready for the ToT and Donald. [Stage note: Can a Goofy in 2009 be that far away, he asks himself foolishly at this time?) Although not impressive yet, it is something for me to achieve some consistancy on my long road back to health and thanks to all of you for your company and encouragement so far.

Good morning WISHers! It seems like another nice day today in PA. I might think of doing a bike ride with the kids later. I will probably take a rest day after running my LR yesterday....but I was considering a short recovery run today to bulk up my mileage this week. I am pretty sore, and I have what felt like a side stitch yesterday but it is still there today??? Maybe a pulled abdominal muscle? I have had it now on and off for two weeks, and it is starting to bug me! I had to work through it yesterday during my run, but it never really felt better. :confused3 :confused3

PaDisneyFan: I am sorry to hear about the blister.....bet you sure felt it in the shower! I find all my areas of soreness as soon as I hit the shower!:headache: I had a few areas from yesterday......OW! So, what exactally did dh do to the leaves.....they are still on the tree, aren't they?:confused3

Karla::welcome: I think you will find this a very happy, helpful group. This is definitely the place to be for encouragement.

Leana: Great job on the 6.2 miles
1:banana:   And a great time too!

Stephanie: I know what the 3 alarm waking of the children! I am lucky that my kids are now older, and just get up themselves. Sending PD's for dh's back. I hope he's back on the road again soon.

WWDave: I am all for the 'housecleaning' the modern way! Wouldn't take any time at all!!! All the more time to get ourselves fit!

I am hoping for the best with the CDC participants this weekend!!:grouphug:
I hope everyone else has a good rest/training day!

Good morning folks! I'm Ali (as in Allison, not Muhummad) and I'm training for my first race! Lookout WDW Half Marathon! Here I come!

Yesterday morning I ran about 4 miles in 45 minutes. I was pretty proud of myself... my newly minted RUNNER self. :cool1:

I felt like I was going to die, but that's besides the point. :rotfl:

A good friend and I signed on several weeks ago with Team in Training and so far my group is panning out to be very nice... but I looooooves me some DISboards and I had to stop by to see if I can play with you all.

So? Whatdoyasay? :rolleyes1

Hey guys! Just a quick post from Chicago before we leave to head back to Cincy. The CDC was great this morning. Fairly hot, but what else would we expect in August, right? :) Most everyone from WISH had crossed the finish line when Krista and I left the finish area about 30 minutes ago.

What a great weekend with everyone! You guys are the best! WISH really had a strong showing at this race. I heard lots of people commenting about how they loved the WISH shirts.

Anyway, time to make the trek back south. I'll post later when I get a chance. I'm sure you'll start to hear from some of the others up here pretty soon, too. Great job to everyone on the training runs and races this weekend!

Greetings, WISHers!

Today was supposed to be a rest day for me, but it was SO beautiful this morning (finally, the humidity dropped!) that I just had to get out and run. Only had time for 30 minutes before church, but it sure was nice. What a great way to start the day!

Karla and Ali - Welcome! Great to have you as part of the team!

Heather - PD for your DH!

Leana - I thought it was cool here but 43?!? Wow!

ohMom - I share the pain of frustration with your pace. I feel like I run too slow on my short runs and too fast on my long runs.

Stephanie - Sorry you had such a rough start to your day! I hope it gets better as it goes along.

Vic - Thanks for getting us started; hope that cold finally leaves you this week.

Angie - WTG on the 2 morning runs!! Woo hooty!

Dave - I tried your technique, but unfortunately my house is still a mess!

PatsBill - GOOFY! GOOFY!

Beth - Hope your stitch is feeling better. :stitch2:

Steve - Can't wait to hear more about the CDC!

Happy training, all! :)

Just finished some xt. I was going to go for a wog, but decided since Chad is home (to watch DS) and I am still very intimidated by the weight room at the gym - I would do some DVD toning at home.
We are both working all week, and I can use the babysitting at the Y to get my miles in during the week.

Hey everyone!

It's been so long since I posted on this thread. I went on two fabulous European trips this summer and ever since I got back, it's been downhill on the training but I'm starting to climb out of my rut and get back with the program. Afterall, I have a MARATHON to prepare for. :scared:

Last week was the first week since mid-June that I felt like I did worthwhile training. After I got back from Austria, I went on a 10-mile bike ride and crashed big time. I discovered that trying to break on an oil-slicked surface is not a good idea. This crash set me back in my training (ok, I'm a wimp...especially after reading about Heather's DH walking the day after his neck surgery. !!!) Now that my knee and shoulders are getting back to normal, I'm ready to tackle the beast...er, training. pirate:

Last weekend I participated in a 14-mile bike ride (Tour de Oink). I rested on Sunday. This is what I did the rest of the week:

Mon - Weight training & aerobic exercise (1hr)
Tues - Walk/Run 3 miles at 15 min pace
Wed - Weight training & aerobic exercise (1hr)
Thur - Walk/Run 3 miles at 15 min pace
Fri - Weight training & aerobic exercise (1hr)
Sat - Walk/Run 4.75 miles at 14.3 min pace
Sun (today) - Bike ride (25 miles)

I think I'll take tomorrow off. ;)

Now, if I could just start losing weight....

Karla - :welcome: I think I welcomed you on another thread but it doesn't hurt to do it again. :earboy2: Sounds like you've got a good plan for your 1/2 marathon. This last WDW 1/2 was my first event ever - at age 49. You can do it. :cheer2: And, I was very overweight (still am :rolleyes1 ) but I did manage to lose 30 pounds in my training last year. I haven't lost any since but I'm gonna work on that.

Stephanie - you're going to get so fast that we won't be able to recognize you when you pass us. :teeth: When the weather turns a little cooler, I would love to come down to where you are and have you show me how to do some speed workouts. I need to see it in person. I don't think I'm doing it right. By the way, :wizard: for your DH. I hope he gets better soon.

Terri - hope you are doing better these days. SF is just a couple of months away. I better start tackling some hills in preparation.

Heather - :wizard: for your DH. What kind of neck surgery did he have? My DH had surgery for a herniated disc in his neck and I don't recall him walking much the day after. Ha!

Kristi - I am so out of the loop regarding Leslie Sansone. I think I may need to order some of her stuff. I need all the help I can get. Thanks for posting this.

Leana - please send some of that cooler weather down here. We are melting. Also, what is active release? I'm having some piriformis issues. As I mentioned to Terri - SF is just a couple of months away. And then, the ToT! :woohoo:

ohMom - no advice for you as my pace seems to be getting worse. :rolleyes1 I can certainly tell you what NOT to do. Ha!

Vic - with fees like that can I be the WISH treasurer. I promise to take really good care of the money. I'll be glad to invest it wisely after I pay off my European trips. ;)

Angie - I'm getting tired just reading what all you did for training this week. Wow, running then core exercises then pump class? You go, girl! Sending some :wizard: for your back.

Dave - Are you sure you didn't leave something out of those instructions? I tried to do what you said but my house is still a wreck. I'll go back and try again. ;)

nepatsfan - This is the first time I've report training in a long time so I can certainly relate. I admire that long-term goal of doing the Goofy. I still trying to think how in the world I am going to do the Mickey in '08.

Beth - no advice on the side stitch. I don't usually run that fast to get them. :tilt: Sending you some :wizard: to help make it go away!

Ali - :welcome: I think I welcomed you on another thread as well but I'll do it again here. With your love of all things Disney, you'll fit right in. :earboy2:

Steve - can't wait to read all the reports. Sounds like you guys had a great time!

Renee - good for you for getting out there. I used to look for excuses, not opportunities like you did. :thumbsup2

Kim - good luck with your family reunion. HAPPY 20th ANNIVERSARY!party:

Hope everyone has a safe and injury-free week. Happy training!

Since there doesn't seem to be too big of a riot here, I figured I could get a quick post between weekend chores...:rolleyes1

Training wise has been interesting since I still have a cold and really haven't felt like doing anything. However after thinking about all those that couldn't do anything due to doctors (Judy and company), I figured that I should do something. So after listening to Lynnda say to take it easy, I did 4 miles Thursday and 7.1 miles yesterday. My pace was slower, 13:46 and 13:11, but I could breathe at the end so I deemed it successful. I found it was easy to keep this pace in the heat so I may try to speed up a little but wait till it cools off a little more before working on the pace too much.

Vic, you have been behaving yourself too much, so I guess your cold is still effecting you. Hope you feel better soon.

Great job to all those who ran this weekend and dealt with poor weather conditions. Congrats to all the racers as well.

Now to go finish laundry so I can have something to wear to work tomorrow. :rolleyes1

Talk about stonkers... I suppose I should have expected it since it's my first LR since I've been back after taking at least a two week hiatus towards the end of the deployment. Highest mileage weekend over there was 3.5/7 for a 10.5 total, so tried to bump it up to 4/8 this weekend, and boy was it painful. Not really painful actually which is a good thing, just REALLY draining. By like mile 3 today I wanted to quit, and the 3 pounds of gatorade I was wearing on my camelbak felt like 30. Ended up taking a prolonged .3 mile walk break at mile 4 to eat a Clif bar and that didn't even really help, guess I'll stick with powerbars or gels. Took a bunch of walk breaks for the last half, and even though this was a "slow" day I was still struggling. Ended up avging something like 11mpm, a far cry from the 9mpm I'm hoping to run at DL, and my usual 10mpm LR pace. But at least I got the steps in, next week going to try 9 and then 10 the following weekend prior to the DL 13.1.

Humidity stinks!:sad2:

OH! How fun to read how you are all doing, and to see all the new faces now that I'm back in tech-land!

I have been doing 4 milers all week in an attempt to not crash and burn when I head out tomorrow morning to do 17 (when you're a teacher, weekends are all relative during the summer:cloud9: ).

ohMom, I am also looking to do some speedwork. I bought Hal Higdon's book, Run Fast, in the hopes that it would help. I will try to pass on ideas as I read through it.:thumbsup2

I did my first marathon in July out in Montana -- hoped for 5 hours, but when the temperature hit 104 degrees:scared1: , 6 hours was fine with me!

I'll be doing Twin Cities Marathon on October 7.:hourglass

I am so glad to be back with you all!

It was the LaSalle Bank Chicago Distance Classic (CDC) half marathon. There were over 20 WISHers in attendance and we had a blast!

Ok Vic, and anyone else feeling puny today, here is a "YARC" story to cheer you up:

There are two statues in a park; one of a man and one of a woman. They had been facing each other across a pathway for a hundred years when, one day, The Queen of the court of "YARC" comes walking from DisneyWorld and, with a single gesture, brings the two to life.

Queen Judy:snooty: tells them, "As a reward for being so patient through a hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty minutes to do what you've wished to do the most."

He looks at her, she looks at him, and they go running behind the shrubbery.

The Queen:snooty: waits patiently as the bushes rustle and giggling ensues. After fifteen minutes, the two return, out of breath and laughing.

Then Queen Judy:snooty: tells them, "Um, you have fifteen minutes left. Would you care to do it again?"

He asks her,"Shall we?"

She eagerly replies, "Oh, yes, let's! But let's change positions. This time, I'll hold the pigeon down, and you poop on it's head."

Ok slinking off to walk now. Feel better Vic.

Have an awesome day WISH Team.

Karla - Welcome to the group!

Nancy - See if you can find some second skin for that blister it works miracles.

OhMom - One thing that will definately help is to cut out the alcohol the night before!! I feel like I might be the WISH team resident party girl, so here is my experience, if you drink the night before a run you will pay for it dearly the next day!! That's why I run on Saturday mornings so I can go out dancing on Saturday nights and not worry about drinking and running the next morning. As far as speed, I do one speed workout a week. I either run intervals, a tempo run, or sprints, I am thinking about replacing adding hills to my training though too.

Stephanie - So sorry about the screaming kiddo!!

Angie - Congrats on that 6 miles!!

Ali (not Muhamed) - Welcome to the group!!

HMHunters - Be careful with that free pass. Somehow I gained 15 lb while training for a marathon, and I had the same mentality, I am finally back down where I started last year, and trying the best I can to eat like an athlete. Although, I think the Cinnamon Bun Ice Cream doesn't help!!

WW Dave - That was soooo bad!

I haven't run since Saturday. Though I did go get new running shoes on Saturday afternoon. My pair had somewhere around 300 miles on them. Once again after trying on 3 different pair I still ended up buying the same ones i have had for years. Only down side to that is the fact that they changed the color of my shoes from blue to orange, and I mean bright orange. I can't wait to get out and run in them this week though. Sunday is my usual rest days, XT on Monday, Run tues weds thurs, XT Friday, and LR on Saturday. Unfortunately, this saturday Michael has his football Jamboree. He is the first game of the day at 8am, then he has another game at 10:30 or 11am. So my Saturday LR is shot, there's no way to get out early enough. And there is a Jaguar game Saturday night where I am sure there are alcohol filled refreshments to be had, so I don't want to run on Sunday. Looks like my runs are scheduled for Mon,Tues,Weds, and LR Friday!!

When are we going to be hearing from the rest of our CDC'ers?

Good morning WISHers.....and welcome back all our CDC group.....how was the marathon?? I am sure that we will hear all about it!

The weekend was full for me.....I did my LR on Saturday, with cooler, beautiful weather! I was loving it! The 15 miles went pretty well, with only a few spots of 'chub rub' to boot. That evening was a celebratory baseball game for my youngest's birthday....and I was tired!:sad1: I didn't get any chance to rest up!

Sunday was yard work day.......   ((((I hate yard work)))) I had to trim MONSTER bushes. I was really afraid that they would eat me!:scared1: But, I made it out alive! I even ran 2 miles on the treadmill at 9:00 pm. I am happy with that, because it evened out my mileage for the week to 25. :yay: :yay:

PaDisneyFan: I got to see Nancy's toenail and it looks terrible! I hope it gets better soon! Good job getting your ten miles in though!

Littlemissmickey: Good luck with your LR today.....I hope it goes well for you!:cool2:

I hope everyone else had a good weekend and successful training sessions!

Leana – Please let me know how the active release works out for you. I continually struggle with piriformis and hip issues. Great run:banana: !

Molli – Just give it time. You’re doing great. Work speedwork in slowly once a week and you should see results over time.

Angie – Congrats for getting out there bright and early and for getting in 6 miles:cool1: . I hope your back is feeling better today.

Bill – Congrats on getting in a few back-to-back sessions. You’re definitely making great strides towards you goal:woohoo: .

Ali – Welcome:welcome: !! Glad you’re joining in the fun. Congrats on the 4 miles:cheer2: .

Steve – Thanks for posting and congrats on the CDC finish.

Renee- Glad you were able to sneak in a quickie run.

Susie – Welcome back!! Great job on getting back on a training program.

Matt – Sorry about the stonker run. I am sure next weekend will be kinder.

WWDave – Thanks for the Monday funny:lmao: !

Dana – Congrats on the new shoes.

Beth – Great job on the 15 miles with minimal chub rub:cool1: !

As promised, no running for me over the weekend and I iced and took my meds on schedule. I got in 4 easy miles this morning and will do another 3 tonight. I think I am going to stay away from speedwork for a bit until I am confident the groin has healed completely.

Congrats to all of our CDC finishers and happy training to all this week:cheer2:

I feel like I might be the WISH team resident party girl...

We did mention this weekend that everyone on the team has a special role :lmao:

We dragged in from CDC about midnight this morning. Meeting up with the team was great, Chicago was great, CDC was great, seeing John Bingham was great (although he did announce us as the Make a WISH foundation :guilty: ) etc :woohoo:

I'll try to post a more formal trip report later when I've recovered some brain function but here's a photo to get started:

Beth--- Gosh, nothing like having someone post on the internet how terrible my toes looks. :rotfl2:

Dana--- What is so funny is that Beth and I are wound care nurses and we are always fixing ourselves up with alot of our products. We have ointments, padding, support wraps for all sorts of running related injuries. However, we don't have second skin but have something similiar. Congratulaions on your new shoe purchase.

Welcome Karla :cheer2: This is a great group.

Heather--- Glad your DH neck surgery went well

Kristi--- Thanks so much for the link to the Leslie Sansone DVDs. The cheapest I have gotten a set of 3 was at Sam's Club for $25. I love her workouts.

Leane--- Hope you get some help for your booty pain.

OhMom--- Good job on your 6.25 mile

Stephanie--- Sorry you couldn't get your run in on Sun.

Angie--- Great job on your runs this weekend.

Vic--- Good job on your 2.5 mile on TM

Welcome Ali :cheer2:

Susie--- I would say from your posting that you are back into training.

Matt--- Sorry about your character building run this weekend.

Welcome back to all the CDC racers and TEAM cheers.

Not sure what my plans are for today as my asthma is causing me some problems today.

Hello, everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO tired!!!!!!! I would love to still be back in bed, but there's this pesky little thing called a job that ruins all the fun. :) Chicago was AWESOME!! I am totally and completely in love with that city. I can't wait to get back and spend some more time sight seeing. The Wish meets were fabulous; we had the absolute best time together. Stephen and I drove to a suburb south of Chicago Friday night and then drove into the city Saturday morning.

Saturday morning Stephen and I checked into the Hilton and then headed down to the Expo where we saw John Bingham checking the timing chips for people. As soon as we walked down in the convention area, who do we see but Mel's lovely face and then came Cam and Howard and Pat and Lily and Jim and Anne and Bob and Darcy and Andrew and Karen and John--it was a mini Wish reunion. We talked for a few minutes before breaking apart to look at different booths, but met together again at the Chipotle booth and then here comes Jen and Paul and their very beautiful daughters.

The walk to Gino's was fun! Maggie and her son caught up with us about half way there and she and I had a great time talking about Chicago and hotdogs. (Maggie I did get my hotdog from a vendor Saturday night and I got KETCHUP on it!!!! ;) ). Like Pat said in the other thread, Carrie and Scott got to Gino's early got 2 huge tables for us and 4 or 5 pizza's ordered. We had the best time just talking and laughing--I hope we weren't too obnoxious to the other customers!!!!

After lunch everyone broke apart to do their own thing. Stephen and I met up with Cam and Howard and Karen and John at Navy Pier for a little carbo loading--Stephen and I carbo loaded with Ben and Jerry's. :thumbsup2 After our very healthy meal, John and Karen headed back to their hotel and Carrie and Scott, Cam and Howard, Stephen and I did an architectural boat tour--that was awesome, thanks Cam for such a great idea.

It was getting late so we headed back to the hotel with Cam and Howard while Scott and Carrie had dinner. I tried to get to bed early, ended up staying up until about 12:30, that 4:30 wake-up call came EARLY!! All of the Wisher's met in the lobby of the Hilton at 5:30 with Stephen and I being last, apparently my pre race meals were rearing their ugly heads, I was SO sick to my stomach that morning and for the entire half marathon.

Unfortunately I don't have a very good race report. I have to be completely honest and say I was extremely disappointed with the CDC and will probably not run it again. That doesn't take away from the wonderful time I had with my Wish friends or Chicago, but I was very disappointed with the race. Stephen ran the half with me, which we had never done before (other than a 5K when he drove me insane!!), it was nice running with him, but I knowI can't get to used to it as he is much faster than me and of course wants to run his own race. But it was nice having the company, especially on that course. I'll start with things CDC had zero control over--the heat and me being sick the whole race, and the lack of crowd support on the course. It was my worst half marathon time, but as I was using it as a training run for the Columbus full, that wasn't a huge deal. Now for my CDC complaints: I felt like the course was terrible--the first 4 miles of the race were downtown, so that was really cool and the last 2 miles were on Lake Michigan, but the other miles were terrible. I think we must have been in an industrial park, I know we ran through McCormick Place, I thought we were in a parking garage at one point, it ended up being an area underneath the convention center, where the dock doors are for deliveries. I also didn't like running on the highway by Soldier Field, we were in lane and right next to us were people driving 70-75 mph. It was awful. Another bad part of the race was that there weren't any porta potties on the course. At all. Stephen tried to go to 2 different places while we were downtown, both places told him there weren't any public restrooms. He ended up going down an alley. Once we got to the industrial park, there was no place to go and I didn't see anyplace once we got to the bike path by Lake Michigan. 2 or 3 water stops ran out of cups (I was having Disney marathon flashbacks from miles 19 and 20), Stephen and I were in the middle of the pack with probably 5,000 people behind us. I don't know if they found cups for them or not. And the final issue I had with CDC is a pretty minor one, but it made me mad none the less, they were handing out hand towels at the finish line but had run out by the time Stephen and I crossed. Like I said, it's a minor complaint, but how do you run out of something like a towel or a medal? You either didn't order enough (the race was capped at 12,000--they should have ordered 12,000 towels) or the volunteers were handing out multiple towels to people. Either way :sad2: . Like I said, I'm glad I ran the CDC, LOVED Chicago and the Wish meets, but we most likely won't go back. I don't mean to be such a downer, I really had a great time this weekend, I was just so disappointed with the Chicago Distance Classic.

I haven't had time to read back through the thread, so I'm off to do that, just wanted to post my race report. Sorry it was so long!!!!!!!

Umm, pardon me sir.... That was NO "OK" run. It was fabulous! :thumbsup2

Pat - Thanks for the race report! I was thinking of you guys all weekend. It sounds like it was a great time. :thumbsup2 But hey, what's up with taking the course apart before you guys are done? How rude! What did they like rent the mile markers or something??? Geez.

Heather - Did you set up the tv table and the remote? Doesn't sound like he needs them! I'm amazed he's out walking already! That is a testament to his fitness! :woohoo: Excellent!

Stephanie - :wizard: for your DH's neck. I'm sorry you didn't get your run in.

Ali -You seem to have a great sense of humor. Not only are you certainly welcome on the WISH board, but as Queen of YARC, I feel you are a good candidate for membership there also. :thumbsup2

Good morning TEAM!

Krista, I am sorry that you were not feeling well, yes it was way too hot. You are pretty incredible for finishing the race while being sick to your stomach. I know what you mean about the cars coming by on LSD, that was very unnerving. The lack of bathrooms was ridiculous. (I will not comment on your hotdog/ketchup faux pas ;) )

Sounds like the rest of you had fun around here while we were gone!!

Karla and Ali - welcome. You have stumbled on a group of amazing people. Stick around. You won't regret it!

I wrote a race report on the other thread. I am not much of a writer, but I just am so damn happy that I earned the right to write one.

Welcome back to all our CDC-ers. Sorry the race operations weren't up to snuff.

Today was supposed to be a rest day for me. Yesterday was to be 3 miles. I ended up flip-flopping the days. May dog fell down the steps yesterday. She's hobbling, but I thinks she's ok otherwise. She's a cocker spaniel mix (with what I don't know), we kinda adopted her from a relative who went into a nursing home 5 years ago. She's 15 and showing her age. Her legs are starting to go and she has a hard time with steps. So, instead of getting in my workout, I hung out at home keeping an eye on her. She seems a little better today.

So I got up this morning and got my 3 miles in. Finished in 42:48 (14:16 mpm pace). I was happy with that. Haven't done 3 miles since Jan.

Only bad part about this morning is that I feel like I'm starting with a cold (BigVic - I know you don't want yours, but please don't send it to me. :) )

Off to work now.

Welcome back to all those that did CDC this weekend. Thanks for the pic and the race report. Sorry it wasn't the best put togehter race that it should have been (you would think with it being such a popular race)

Congrats Judy on being able to wear 2 dress shoes - looks like you are making fine progress!!!

Welcome Ali

I was able to get in one run this weekend but it was on the treadmill. I didn't feel like running on Saturday so I waited till Sunday. Woke up Sunday and did not feel like running again so I knew I wouldn't be able to make it outside. Finally I got myself on the treadmill at 4pm and ended up doing 8 miles - took me longer then I wanted (2 hours 10 minutes) but I was happy to get in 8. For some reason when I am on the treadmill I alway have a mile goal in mind but always want to quit before I get to that milage - but end up sticking it out usually. Like yesterday - I had 8 miles as the goal but had thoughts of stopping at 6 miles but when I got to 6 miles I realized I only had another 2 to go so why not keep going!! LOL

Hope to get lots more training in this week and that I get over the not wanting to run thing soon - once I force myself to get going I am fine I just have trouble getting started!! LOL

No Judy dear Queen, you didn't poop on the pigeon. You brought the two statues to life and told them they could do anything they wanted. So they got revenge on the pigeons, who had been pooping on them.

Erica and I did a brisk 4 mile walk this morning. I was a tad sore from Saturday's race so 4 miles was plenty. Tomorrow will be longer.

Really quick, I was able to slug through 16 really tough miles this morning. Garmin was acting up, but my time was 2:51, for 16 miles give or take .25 miles. I know my first 3 miles came out 2.78 on my Garmin, which is funny because it usually measure longer than my actual distance.

Welcome back CDC competitors.

Also, Disney Full Marathon is 95% full as of today (Monday) so I dusted off my credit card :upsidedow and entered!

Hi! Remember me?

$!@#% I just tried to post my CDC race report and the computer ate it before I could get it posted. I'll quickly sum up here and I'll try to rewrite it for the appropriate thread later.

As you may remember, I developed a quad/hip flexor injury right after July 4th and I haven't been able to run since. I've been so upset about it that I just didn't want to post around here. It took several weeks for me to get an appt with my doctor so that I could get a referral to the sports med doctor so that I could get a referral for appointments with one of the trainers. I didn't get in for my first appointment with the trainer until last Monday - less than a week before the race. Anyway, they did a lot of work on my with the goal of getting me across the finish line.

The combination of my injury and lack of proper training meant that there was no way I could w3/r2 as planned. I decided to commit to walking the entire thing so that I wouldn't end up injurying myself so severely that I wouldn't be able to train for WDW in January. I was disappointed, but I know I made the right decision. I finished in 3:12:59 and couldn't be happier. All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was really ready to be done when I hit mile 11, but I hung in there until the very end.

Saw several WISH team members, but didn't want to stop to chat. (I need to "get in a zone" and tune everything else out.) I didn't even walk with my Mom, so please don't be offended. My Mom also finished (in 3:28:something) andI was really proud of her. It was the first 1/2 for both of us.

I was pretty disappointed with the race route. It was great downtown, but that long out and back with the traffic was rough. Krista, I'm sure I was behind you and we had cups at every stop except the one around mile 6. I did panic a bit at that point because I was so afraid that we wouldn't have any cups at the rest of the aid stations. I didn't get a hand towel either and didn't understand why they didn't have enough.

I am continuing my appointments with the trainer for another two weeks. I'm not even going to attempt running for awhile. When I am ready to start again, I am going to do the couch to 5K program as I train to train for WDW. I woud really like to run most of that race if possible. We'll see how it goes.

Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer about CDC, I really didn't mean to be! On a positive note, I LOVE the medal!!! :goodvibes

Karla--Welcome!!!

Ali--Welcome!!!

Judy--You are making progress!!! :woohoo: How many days until training begins?

Meghan--Congrats on CDC!!!! I wish you would have come up and talked to us Sunday morning! But I can certainly understand needing to be in the zone. I'm really glad that the water stations got some cups for everyone else, it was way too hot of a day to be without water or Gatorade. I did think the volunteers did a fabulous job in what was I'm sure a very stressful situation for them!

Colleen--Woohoo for signing up for Disney!!!!! I think I've decided after Columbus that I need a break from long distance training, so no matter where I am between Oct and Jan, I'm not running in January.

Jen--I gotta tell you, your daughters are the cutest, most well behaved girls I have ever seen! I didn't hear a peep out of them all weekend.

Mel--How was the soccer game yesterday? I'm glad you made it home safely. Are you dragging as bad as I am today?

Vic--When the cat's away, the mice will play!!!! Hope you are feeling better today.

Okay, I'm going to try to get some work done this afternoon. Can't wait to get home and camp out on the couch tonight. I'm taking a rest day today!!

I was reading a blog for a radio personality in Dallas the other day and she posted this:

"Okay. I have decided, like Oprah did many, many years ago, that I need to run a marathon. Only problem is, I don't want to run a whole one. I want to do maybe half of one...or a third...or whatever. I just want to get the T-shirt saying I ran the thing. So, I am going to start training for this right away. There's one coming up in December and I think if I put my mind to it, I'll be able to sign up and get that T-shirt. It feels real goog to have a goal."

Interesting, eh?

Leana--all I can say about that is "pathetic"! Heck, at least Oprah actually did the event for her t-shirt. Anyone can get the t-shirt--the medal at the end is where it's at!:thumbsup2

Krista--glad to hear that Chi-town was fun. I love Chicago, love to visit, that is, not to live there. Too bad about the race--maybe next year I'll forego CDC and put the Chicago Marathon in it's place.

Judy--Woohoo on getting two dress shoes on today!

Well, got some xt in today--or I guess that's what you could call chasing my kiddos around a waterpark in 100 degree heat. I'm in sort of a slump right now. My LRs are getting really long and lonesome--I really need a buddy--anyone willing to conference in for a LR this weekend??;) I should run tonight, but I am so tired of the TM and it's still so blasted hot. Nevermind me, Debbie Downer! Thanks for letting me whine a little

For some reason, I think I'm just a glutton for punishment, but I offered today to be team captain for my local mom's group for the Race for the Cure. The event in AR is one of the largest in the country--last year there were around 30,000 women--amazing!!! But now, I gotta round up the troops to register this year and somehow conjure up a creative gene and design a team t-shirt--any ideas?????

A few things I forgot to add to my race report on the other thread.

The morning of the race, my neighbor picked me up to head into the city. After I tried to explain to him about the WISH team, he called me a dork (not in a mean way). Anyway, Cam told my ds5 at the end of the race that I won. Later that day, my neighbor stopped by and ds5 ran up to him and told him my mommy won and you didn't!:cool1: serves him right for calling me a dork.

Cam -Thanks for telling my son I won.

Mel - thanks for the lime green mickey head. My ds3 has not let go of it for 48hours. He told his brother not to touch it, that mommy's friend gave it to us. Never get in the middle of a 3 year old and his Mickey!

Carrie - thanks for the sponges, I have to admit that I had no idea what they were for when you handed them out on Saturday. Did the look on my face give that away? By mile 5 or so on Sunday, I had it figured out. They are great!

Jen - Matthew had fun playing with Emma at lunch. Your kids are cuties.

Can someone direct me to the thread about ToT meet? Is there a meet on Saturday?

Meghan - Sorry you're having such a tough time. Take it slow and don't push too hard. You have to be there in January. Annie is so looking forward to talking Indy with you! How about those last couple of races?

Krista - Glad you like the medal; too bad the race was such a bummer. Columbus will be great! And maybe you're right to plan on a break after that. I'm already wondering just how long this obsession will go before I have to slow down...

Judy - Hooray for two real shoes! We'll be back on the TM together in no time!

Karla & Ali - :welcome: This group is absolutely the greatest.

Terri - pixiedust: for your dog. It's so hard when they get to that age.

DD and I took the dog for a 2 mile hike in a county park yesterday. It was a nice break from the usual routes! I need to run today, but may wait till tomorrow AM and hit the TM, and clean house tonight instead. Someone asked me at church yesterday what I was training for and I actually told her the Raleigh marathon instead of the half-marathon - I guess I'm truly psyching myself up to run the full? What have you guys DONE to me? :scared:

Hey all... just a quicky from me. I hope to post my race report tonight when I get home (with pictures!!!). I am totally exhausted today, a walking zombie. MY FOOT FEELS GOOD, but my body is tired. Maybe the 5+ hour drive after a 1/2 marathon isn't so great for recovery!!!!

Krista - I told DH that I really liked the race, but wouldn't do it again without the WISH team there. I agreed with a bunch of your issues. And seriously, if I wasn't with Mel the whole time, I am not sure I would have enjoyed it. Talking and walking and running with Mel made the time go by so fast and it really was a great time. Thankfully I didn't have to use the restroom because that was a big downside that I noticed. And thankfully I carried my own water. BUT, I didn't get a towel and that irks me just a bit. And the fact that they re-routed people at the end was a little off for a Bingham race.

Oh and thanks for the compliment on my girls. They really were well behaved around all the WISHers... shewwww. They were a bit naughty with us tho, but they get that way when we are in a hotel room and they want to party all night!!!!

Maggie - It was great meeting you this weekend. I am so glad you were able to walk with WISHers. It makes the race so much more enjoyable.

Oh... gotta run. I will post more tonight.

Hi, everyone! I am so sorry I am not able to catch up yet. Just wanted to mention that the CDC was awesome just because of the amazing WISH team!!! Lily stayed with me the whole time and we were joined off and on by so many of our awesome teammates! The only downside was missing so many of you and my beloved race partner, Rhonda, who would have only added to Lily and my fun (how is that possible?). I will say that Lily and I had some awesome miles for the first several and then started taking pictures! "Oh, Lily, stand over here. There are gorgeous flowers behind you!" "Oh, stop for a second. That building would make a great background for a picture!" Heck, even the official race photographers thought we were nuts when five WISHers dead-stopped in front of him for group pix! :lmao: It was such an awesome weekend except for our missing teammates! Thank you so much, Lily, for being such a great race partner, even through the "bite me" zones (to use Coach Jenny's professional terminology!). :lmao:

Oh, one last thing -- Reebok was a race sponsor and had the most awesome ad campaign going -- "Run Easy" with sayings like "Why Hit the Wall? It Hurts. Run Easy" and "Run at the Speed of Chat" and "Enjoy the Ride. RUn Easy" We told the guys at the expo Reebok booth that we will patronize their company and not that other one and they knew EXACTLY what we were talking about.

Oh, drats! I just thought of something else. Friday, Howard and I stopped at the Snickers Energy booth to buy bars and they weren't selling them and gave us each a couple for the race. All three of those college aged kids said they admired us for doing the race and all professed to have neither the strength nor the fitness to do such a thing. When I urged them to consider walking it next year, they all insisted that 13.1 miles is really far and the heat is bad and they just really didn't think they could do it. I am hoping we might have persuaded them otherwise.

Okay, have to get back to work and I'll catch up soon. We walked in the house at 2am this morning and I am barely functioning at work!

Yesterday I went for a double shot of yoga and pilates. We did some hip work in pilates that really made my piriformis cry out when we worked the right side. It was a great class though...

Today I went for active release for the first time to help out my piriformis issues. It was pretty interesting. It basically involves the doctor pressing down on the painful spots while you stretch your leg out and move it different ways, all in an attempt to break down scar tissue. Obviously the scar tissue is building up near my sciatica, hence the pain. Basically my lower back is weak, which makes my hips overcompensate so they never fully rest and recover, even while standing and sitting, hence the build up of scar tissue. The good news is the scar tissue can be broken down and if I can address my weak lower back issues hopefully this won't be a reoccuring issue for me. I'll let you know if I can tell a difference after a couple of sessions since I know some folks were interested in how this would work out for me. I know there are a few WISHers with booty pain out there! The Dr. figured I would need about 4 - 6 sessions, so it isn't like this will be an ongoing thing... And the good news is running doesn't make it worse so no issues with keeping on top of training. Tonight I'm going to aim for 5 - 6 miles.

Congrats to all of our CDC'ers and all the other racers this weekend. I'm sorry to hear there were some disappointments on the course - definitely doesn't sound like a John Bingham type of race! No porta potties, no towels, taking the mileage markers down...?? It sounds like the group had a great time though. Can I see a picture of the medal so I can have medal envy??

Hey guys! I know I have been MIA!

Congrats to the CDCers! Hope to read race reports soon.

Hey Matt! Glad you are home....

Here is a pic from my ride on Saturday. Me in the front. Not my MS ride but training for it. That is my "official" MS jersey I am wearing...and it is Panther colors!:cool1: My team is named TrueWheels and we are (JIC someone does not know) raising $$ for the fight against MS!

I sort of crosstrained today. I spent over an hour in the pool with Zack. We had a half hour swim class and then stayed and kept practicing. Not sure it's very much xt for me - but I'll take it! My start of ToT training starts next week - and then I am getting serious!

I started another thread, but I thought I'd mention it here too.
I am going to volunteer during the Full at WDW. Anyone want to join me?

Chicago was very cool...what a neat city! We didn't get to see nearly as much as we wanted, though I'm afraid I spent too much time walking around the 2 days prior to the race. I met my best friend from high school and we walked to Navy Pier on Friday, then the walk to and from Gino's (plus the shopping along the way :thumbsup2 ) on Sat was too much. Sat night my feet and ankles felt like they do after a full day at EPCOT.

We found a fabulous chocolate place at the Westfield mall called Ethel's Chocolate Lounge! Oh my! We got a chocolate smoothie which came with two pieces of chocolate. It's set up like a coffee bar with cozy chairs and comfy couches. Most tasty!

I never sleep well the night before a race, but this one wasn't too bad. I got a solid 5 hours before I woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep. I finally got up at 4:45 to get ready and went down to the lobby to meet the team. We all walked over together to get ready for the race. There were plenty of porta potties at the start area which was good, because as Krista mentioned, they were startlingly absent the remainder of the race. Jen spotted one downtown, but it belonged to a construction site. Jen and I started out with the 2:45 pace dude who was doing intervals at R4/W2. We stuck with him for about an hour, then downshifted to R3/W2 for the second hour and walked the last hour. Neither of us had run with anyone before and we weren't looking for PRs so it was perfect. It really makes the miles go by faster when you have someone running with you. I don't think I would've stuck with running as long as I did if Jen hadn't been there. Thank you!

And big thanks to Carrie for bringing the sponges again! It was a huge help!

Weather was definitely hot, though a tad chilly at the start. I'm thinking less humid than home because I didn't feel that stifling 'wrap-around-and suck-the-life-out-of-you' sensation I get at home. I think CDC should be an evening race...start it once the sun gets behind the buildings and it would be cool with the breeze coming off the lake. I imagine traffic control would be tough then, though.

I did love the no-pressure atmosphere of this race. John Bingham pays people to be last (the Balloon Cuties). He even said if you get tired and want a ride to mile 11, just ask ;) The medals were very cool! Unfortunately, I couldn't stay around after the race to see everyone finish...we had to get going to get to the soccer game on time.

Of course, the whole excitement for DD14 revolved around the soccer game (US v N Zealand). We found the US team was staying in our hotel so she got a few pictures with some of her favorite players. The US won, 6-1, which really doesn't reflect how well the N Zealand keeper played. If she hadn't made some spectacular saves, the US would've easily scored in double digits. The game was really hot though. We walked over to Soldier Field, starting at about 11am, got there about 11:30 so were out in the direct sun for over 3 hours. I ended up with a wicked migraine...I think likely due to dehydration, my indicator was dark yellow when we were at Midway.

Things I learned from this race:
1. Running with a friend is the best way to race!
2. Limit sight-seeing prior to the race.
3. No mid-afternoon sporting events immediately after the race.

I just posted my race report. I think I got a tad bit wordy tho....

Mel - I loved running with you. I think you pulled me along as much as I did you. Just awesome. I posted in my report that I am not sure I would do CDC again unless there were WISHers there. It was just plain AWESOME. Totally made the race. Next up.... Full Marathon!!!

I also posted some pics. I didn't have many, because I didn't run with a camera, dh had it.

I decided to take this week off of running just to rest my body. Next week I will be in WDW and will most likely not run either. I think this will be a good break before jumping into full training.

:yay: GOOD EVENING TEAM :yay:

Congratulations to all the CDC runners for finishing in not so great conditions!!:cool1: :cool1:

So tonight Bobby and I ran together and he did 3!! :cheer2: GO BOBBY!!

I was going to add another mile but the thunder and lightning scared me into the house.

So I signed up tonight to do a race on Labor Day -- The Canes Cross Country Classic 5K!! My first race since MINNIE and I am very excited. It gives me a goal to shoot for the next couple of weeks.

I am going to whine for a second because I was looking at the results from last year and if I had continued on the pace I was at in April and May I would have come in the top 3 in my age group :sad2: OK done pouting!! For the first time in a long time I am very excited and feel like I have something to shoot for.

Still trying to decide about the marathon!!

Have a good night everyone

Just a few quick thoughts...

I do races for t-shirts! I also do them for medals, food, braggin rights, travel excuses, and something to keep me in shape. Are those good reasons?

nucpharm -- I will run with you this weekend! How far? I've got 18 on the agenda... I sympathize with your loneliness as you know from the October thread.

I LOVE THE CDC MEDAL. Too bad that the race wasn't quite on target with what you wanted. Congrats and getting out there and doing a summer race!

I went 17 miles today at a very slow pace. I live in a small town, so I did a lot of running back and forth. I think the lawn-mowing company guy thought I was checking him out or something and gave me a two-toot salute and a wave.:confused3

So glad to be back and reading about you guys! Wowza!

Krista - Thanks for posting the pictures of the medals. They definitely are very cool!!

I just got in from a 6 miler. It was pretty cool out again - 51F and overcast - which made for a pretty comfortable run. I picked a pretty hilly route to run, with the first mile being pretty well all uphill. Then the next two miles are mostly downhill. I was feeling pretty good so I opted for 6 miles instead of 5, then realized that I was feeling so good because I had been running downhill for so long! ;) I turned around though and the hills all felt pretty decent to me, so progress is happening! The highlight of the run was for sure at the 5 mi mark when I saw three young deer on the hillside next to me. They were so pretty and so close..!! I finished up the run in 1:08:48 for an 11:28/mi pace.

I was thinking today all the way back to my first 10K run. I didn't train for it at all and I really wasn't a runner. I felt so proud because I ran the whole way, but I remember feeling like I'd never be the same going down stairs the day afterwards! I highly doubted that I would ever do that long a run again. Now I'm hitting those 6 milers out of the park like nobody's business. It sure feels good! Now that I'm comfortable with the distance I'm hoping I can improve the pace at my next 10K race next month to get to somewhere hovering around the 1 hour mark....

Hi all! SOrry about my absence as of late!

My last few days of wok rwere very hectice adn flowed into part of my few days off. I ende up with 2.5 days off, one of which was traveling to CDC. SO, those 1.5 days were packed.

Seeing WISHers at CDC was wonderful! I only WISH I had more time with everyone.

CDC itself as hot. I am proud of how I did in the heat, but nothing fabulous. Several comments on our shirts. That's till so cool to hear.

FIrst day of my new job was great! Wow. Usually the first week is rought, but, get this, I am excited to go back. I did not want to leave after 8 hours, because I still had fun stuff on my to do list! :O Plus, amazingly enough, you need permission to work more than 8 hours a day. :scared1: Yeah, to quote a line from ANnie (sorry it's not Disney) "I think I'm gonna' like it here!"

HOpefully, I'll get in a routine of checking the baords after work soon adn will try to catch up. Miss you all! Thansk to all of you who sent me warm thoughts for mey first day and fo all teh good thoughts fo CDC!:grouphug:

BTW, CDC this weekend just reaffirmed what an incredible group we have. I WISH I had more time with every WISHer that was there!!!!!

:welcome: Karla!

:welcome: Ali!

I'll have both of you on the list next week!

Krista...I was totally dragging, but I took the day off today so I could do that. Definitely not looking forward to going back tomorrow. Hope your tummy's feeling better! Are you sure it was just the food? :rolleyes1

Jen...it was really cool running with you! I felt bad when I saw the final results...we could've gotten your PR. Of course, we know we'll PR the full ;) I'm less nervous about it now.

Carrie...we never seem to get much time to hang out together. I even brought your Janet Evanovich book with me, but never got around to giving it to you. I'll mail it to you soon!

Angie...you'll do great at the Canes 5K! That's a fast field!

Kristi...that would be cool for you to volunteer for the full! You'll have to let us know where your station is.

Christa...great photo! How's the training going?

Cam...great seeing you and Howard again! I'm sorry I missed seeing you finish.

Judy...you guys don't have to behave on my account ;) .

Speaking of, we entertained ourselves at Gino's by writing on the walls. Apparently that's a tradition at the restaurant, so if anyone goes there, look for the hidden Mickeys :thumbsup2

And I'm not sure quite how it happened...DD14 wanted to go to the humane society today. She needs volunteer hours throughout high school to qualify for scholarships, so we asked, but they require volunteers to be 18. We have been talking about getting a golden retriever for a long time and had decided we were finally ready so have been working on the application. While at the humane society, we checked to see if they had anyone available...and found a black and white border collie mix named Lucy. She's 13 and had been turned in twice but the whole staff say she's the sweetest dog ever. There's been some jockeying for position but looks like she'll get along with our current border collie mix. Not sure how the cat's feeling about the situation though...he looks extraordinarily irritated.

Really glad everyone enjoyed the lime green Mickeys. For anyone that's confused, I found them at EPCOT last weekend. It's a little hard foam Mickey (kinda like a small version of the antenna toppers) attached to a chain. They had them in all colors, including lime green, so I got a bunch and brought them to CDC.

Question for y'all that have done both Bingham and Higdon training: which do you prefer? I've been looking at the higdon plans and find them interesting, but am worried about those midweek 8 and 10 mile SR.

OK, Just skimmed htrough and, I must admit, mostly just hit the CDC comments.

First, just need to clarify that Ann, Bob, Karen adn John were the wonderful ones who were first in line and got us awesome tables. Scott adn I just took orders.

Second, Being with teh WISHers made teh trip 150% worthwhile. I LOVED it.

Third, Medal was great.

Lastly, I hated the course, even the downtown parts. I loved teh view on the lakeshore, bbut was so dead by teh time we got there, it felt like 4 or 5 miles of the stretch wher you can see the ball around WS, but it take froever to get to it. I coudl see the city in teh distance, but it took forever to reach it. However, from reading MfM, it sounde like some people are city runners and some are not. The Penguin loves city runs much more than Disney. That' sjust not us. I think hearing of how much the Penguin loes CIty races and thinking that this aws one of his had it way over hyped for me. That didn't help. I'm so glad I was ther adn saw all the WISHers, though. I dont' want anyeone who said it was great to think I reggret this weekend fr one second. :grouphug:

To end on a good note: There was a group call teh Eilah walkers or something like that. They had cool biblical quotes on their signs. Even better, thhuogh, they had GREAT people out there cheering adn slapping EVRYONE's hands. Their scream team was so awesome that I had to tell one of them so when we were cheering after the race. That was very cool!

Good evening, WISHers!

Congrats to all the CDCers and other recent racers! Krista, thanks for sharing the pics of the medal - you're right, it IS awesome!

I'm afraid I've had a bit of bad luck the past two days. Yesterday I'd aimed to take a lazy afternoon bike ride through town, but I ended up running into a curb ("Officer, I swear it came outta NOWHERE! :confused3 ") and getting banged up a bit. I also got a 3 mile walk I hadn't planned on, since the bike shop told me I couldn't have my bike back until Wednesday (even though they didn't look at all busy to me when I was there...)

Tonight I went out for 6 miles, and came in right around an 11 min/mi pace, which is typical for me, but I felt like I was working much harder than usual to get the same results. I think part of it might have been the humidity - the air felt thicker and more difficult to breathe than it has on other runs - and part of it was I don't think I was as hydrated as I usually am when I go out. Most days I come home from work and guzzle water down 30-60 mins before I plan to go out, but tonight I went shopping after work, so when I got back I ran straight out the door as soon as I'd dropped everything off (so that I could be back before it got dark...I only barely made it). I brought water to drink during the run, of course, but I definitely think my body was missing its normal saturation...my heart rate felt faster overall, too, so everything sort of coallesced to make a less-than-stellar run.

But oh well, tomorrow's another day!

I posted this on the other thread... but wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

I wanted to thank all of the WISHers that attended the CDC for the friendship and company during our trip to Chicago. The city was impressive, friendly and beautiful.

Carrie and Scott were great roomies, we had a great time sharing space and the race prep with them.

I enjoyed meeting up with everyone at the Expo, at Gino's East (Yum!), at Wicked, and on race morning. I ran the race all by my lonesome... Lynette and Kevin Z weren't there this time to run with me I guess.

I started out at or around an 8:30 pace. I finished the first 5K at 29:27 or something similar. I slipped into a 10 minute mile pace, which was comfortable and sustainable, for most of the rest of the race. I hit a not so nice small wall just after mile 11. I didn't have any beans, Gu or other nutrition on me so I had to suck it up and tough out the rest of the race. I did have to slow down to a quick walk several times throughout the later part of the race to conserve what I had in the tank and to breathe a bit. I did this and kept my eye on the clock, keeping to the 10 minute miles if possible.

I was ahead of the 2:00 pace group up until about mile 10, then they passed me. The 2:15 pace group never passed me. I guess they finished right behind me (I didn't look back).

Here is my official time which matched my Garmin (in time only). The over passes, tunnels, etc... made the Garmin mileage WAYYYY off.

1612 Howard Wilmington DE 44 M 2:15:35 It equates to a 10:20 pace overall.

I did get a towel, but noticed that they allowed several people to grab a couple at the finish. I was given one full of ice, it was a welcome treat at the end of a hot race.

I was upset that there were no "Ouis Ouis" (wee wee's) as they are called out there on the course. There was one for volunteers at the turn at the southern most point in the race, but it was inundated with runners when I passed it. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I was somewhat dehydrated (despite sipping on the Powerade I was carrying with me) and never needed one after the pre-race pit stop.

It was fun, the course had its good and bad points. If it were not for the WISH Team (which made me proud to be a member!) I wouldn't have enjoyed the experience as much.

Maggie, it was great to meet you and your family!

Lilly, thank you for hanging with Cam during the race... it sounds like you both had a lot more fun than I did.

Andrew and Darcy, it was really nice to meet you both!

Krista & Steve ~ It was fun sharing a harrowing cab ride to hell with you, or was that to Hilton? :lmao:

A great big :grouphug: to everyone who traveled from IL, MI, NJ, OH, DE, FL, etc. to attend the CDC. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Tower of Terror race in a couple of months.

Carrie - I am so glad you mentioned this, they were sooo great!! My dh and I stopped to talk to a few of their runners on our way back to the car. They were very a nice group of people.

It is so great to hear about everyone's experience at CDC! It sounds like you guys had a blast! I am getting more excited for my first full marathon in September!

Yesterday was a bust for running, and X training! I was hoping to get to a Pilates class last night, but that didn't pan out at all. Fall baseball started for ds and dh was out of town for work, so Mom was on duty (((again!))). If they ever become big time ball players, I had better get a "hi Mom" on TV for all the work they put me through!!!!:rotfl:

I did get myself out of bed this morning to run on the dreaded TM for 4 miles before work, in anticipation of pump class tonight......I am never feeling good enough to run after pump! :confused3

So nice to read what a great time everyone had at the CDC with other WISH team members. Cool medal.

I have picked up a summer cold so no training for me yesterday. Will see how I feel after work and make the decision what I am going to do then as far as training.

Hey all... just a quick post like always. No training to report from me, except packing for Disney... we leave on Saturday. Oh Wait, we are going to Ohio!!! Anyhoo, MY FOOT FEELS GREAT. I woke up this morning with no pain, and yesterday it barely hurt also. DH said I must have popped something (not likely, but no PF pain is a bonus in my book). So with 2 weeks off I think it will do my foot a world of good. Oh, but walking Disney may not!!! :lmao:

Carrie - I am so glad you like your job. I was thinking about you yesterday.

Mel - If you want to buddy up at the Marathon, let me know. Tho I do think we may have different corral placements because of the time we both put down.

Stephanie - I think DH may try videoing when we tell the girls. We plan to do it when we transfer planes in Ohio. I am so excited to see their faces. We have almost spilled it several times already and they still don't get it. We are lucky that HS Musical 2 is on Friday night, so they will watch that and I can pack all the Disney stuff like costumes and hats and stuff. Hopefully they will never notice.

Oh and I am a little disappointed with my pics of CDC. I have lost 15 pounds since January and those darn tights and waistpacks make me look like a balloon. UGHHHH... My goal is to lose another 15-20 before the marathon, hopefully!!!!!

Good mornng WISHers!

Well last night I was going to run outside while DD had soccer practice, but I wimped out and went to the Y to run on the tm instead. It was 98 and I decided there was just no reason to acclimate myself to that kind of heat! So instead of doing a 45 minute run, I had to cut it to 30 so I upped the pace. I kept a 9:30 pace for 3 miles and then did 1/4 mile at an 8:00 pace. I guess if I want to run outside I'm going to have to get up really early and get it done.

I have really enjoyed reading all the reports from the CDC; sorry it was a less-than-stellar experience as far the the race goes, but so glad the WISHers all got to enjoy each others' company in RL.

According to the widget on my computer, 72 days until we leave for ToT!

Happy training, all! :)

Good morning, team!! No training to report, I took a rest day yesterday. I have 3 miles tonight, I guess outside in the heat as the motor went out in our TM and I didn't bring anything to stop at Gold's. 3 miles isn't too bad to run in the heat, but 7 tomorrow may be a different story!!

Kristi--I signed up to volunteer for the full marathon. :woohoo: I figure I'll be there anyway, I'll be cheering anyway, so I might as well be useful, right? :)

Jen--You are so sweet, thanks for the great compliment. :goodvibes I know how you feel about hating running, I'm there right now. I don't hate running--I'm hating the long runs. Just can't get motivated. I think the training for 15 months straight and the 4 1/2 marathons and the 1 full marathon in 1 1/2 years is catching up with me. When do you leave for "Ohio"?

Moon--Sorry about your bike!!! That's why I stick to the stationary bike, I'm way too clumsy to ride on the roads.

Leana--You are a training machine!!! Wow! You are going to rock the marathon. How is your puppy doing?

Mel--I can't believe you did a 1/2 marathon, walked back to the hotel, got cleaned up, walked back to Soldier Field and then watched a soccer game in that heat. You get Super Mom of the Year Award!! I've done both John Bingham and Hal Higdon's plans. There are things I like about both and things I don't like about both. My main issue with Bingham's plan is the timed runs during the week. If you are out there for 60 minutes, what's your incentive to work harder, regardless of how hard you push yourself, you're still running/walking for 60 minutes. But if you have a 5 miler scheduled for that day, then once you get your 5 in, you're done, so if you are feeling good you can push harder, but if not, then let up and go slower--but at 5 miles you're are done whether it takes 60 minutes or not. Higdon's plan is very ambitious, which is why I switched to him, I wanted to push myself for Columbus. This week is my first "long" short run--7 miles tomorrow. I'll let you know if I like it. :) By the way, I feel great today, so nope, that's not it. ;)

Howard--Those cab drivers are crazy!! How we didn't get hit by that car, I have no idea!

Carrie--I'm glad you had such a great first day! And I have to agree, the Elijah running group was fantastic. They were the only spectators actually cheering on the course. I guess that's why Disney has volunteer screamers, to support the runners/walkers when the spectators don't.

Beth--I can't believe you do all those back to back workouts--running 4 miles and then a body pump class or pilates. You must be in amazing shape.

Ashley--What ever makes you get out and there and train is a great reason!!!

Angie--Good luck as you continue to train, I hope your back is feeling better and better every day. Send my congrats to Bobby on his 3 miles. That's great! :cheer2:

Has anyone heard from Tiff? I wonder how her DH is doing...

Has anyone heard from Tiff? I wonder how her DH is doing...

Yes, I wondered about Tiff and her DH a few days ago.

krista, thanks for the picture of the medal, it is great!

Mel, oh, my you went to watch a soccer match after the half-marathon? No wonder you were exhausted. That along with air travel would completely do me in! Hope you get rested up this week.

Carrie, thanks for the report. Sounds like you all had a great time. I am so glad you love:cloud9: your new job. You deserve it, but we miss you around here during the day.

Moon, congratulations on your 6 miler and your great pace.:cool1:

Howard, great time for those conditions! Ooo, the ice towel would have been a very welcomed sight at the finish.

Nancy, I hope you are feeling better, summer colds are the worst.

Jen, so glad your foot has recovered so quickly. You really must be taking good care of yourself. I agree with krista, your girls are adorable.:cloud9:

Renee, awesome treadmill work, you were flying with that 8 min pace.

Leana, I meant to comment on all your skirts! Good thing you are a training machine, so you can put all those skirts to good use.

Jackie, isn't this group great! Congrats on your goal to run the Raleigh full. I know I wouldn't have kept with it with the group.

Cam, interesting story about those kids at the Snickers bar booth. It is nice to get outside comments like that to show a person that training for half or full marathon is an awesome accomplishment.:)

Mel and Jen, sounds like you two had a great time together.

Angie, are still trying to decide about the Disney full marathon? It is 95% full and will probably fill within the next week or so. Good to hear about DH's run.

LittleMissMickey, you ran 17 miles yesterday and you have 18 miles on for this weekend?? OK, you are definitely a running machine!

Terri, great job on your 3 miles, the miles will really start coming now that you are back into it. Take care of yourself.:wizard:

Tricia, it is great when a person can think, oh, why not just throw in another few miles for a total of 8.:woohoo: Once I get within 2 miles of the finish of a long run is when I know I can do it.

As for my training, today is a rest day after my 16 miler yesterday. I will probably take the kids to the pool in the afternoon.

Water question

Do any of you use camel backs (or similiar idea) instead of the belts? If yes, how do they work out for you? If not, is there a reason, other than personal preference?

Angie - I have a Camelbak and a Fuel Belt, along with a water bottle waist pack.

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2607682&cp&kw=camelbak+flashflo&origkw=camelbak+flashflo&sr=1
I have the Camelbak Flashflo - it holds 45oz and has quite a bit of room for cell phone, gels, keys for those long runs. The downside is that the waist straps seemed to need tightening up every once in awhile while the pack was still full. Easy to drink out of, but it tastes a bit plasticky, so Gatorade helps that problem. I think this is what I'll use for the really long runs (14 mi +). Drinking out of the tube is actually really convenient.

http://www.fuelbelt.com/fuel_belts/4_bottle.html#endurance4
I also have the Endurance 4 bottle belt. This one is a bit more comfortable as the belt is made of stretchy elastic. The downside is the pocket is really small, so I had to buy an extra pouch to add on. You can get extra bottles in a 10 oz size so you can carry extra fluids. The plus is you can carry water and Gatorade or juice. The downside is the fluids seem to warm up pretty quickly.

Honestly, I like both and I'll alternate between the two. I needed something to carry more fluids rather than a typical 1 or 2 bottle waist pack.

Mel - If you want to buddy up at the Marathon, let me know. Tho I do think we may have different corral placements because of the time we both put down.

That would be cool! I can always hop to your corral if needed, but not sure if one of us will end up red and one blue :confused3

What kind of intervals do you want to do? I liked the 4/2...can't wait to finish resting and try it out with training! Just not sure I can wrap my brain around a 6 min interval ;)

The soccer game was well worth it just for the expression on Kaley's face. It was like a dream come true for her, especially when we found the team staying in our hotel. I would definitely take a cab to the stadium next time instead of walking...we did take a cab back since I was feeling pretty rough which worked out well. He just waited for us to run in and get our bags at the hotel then took us to Midway. And maybe some seats in the shade next time...we had a great spot, 3rd row around what would've been about the 25 yard line if the grass had been striped for the Bears. I have a tan line on my right arm from where my WISH bracelet was

Hi, everyone!
Work is still incredibly busy (this used to be a slow time of year! :confused3 ), so I just wanted to compliment everyone on all the great training and say :welcome: to our newest team members.

I'll do a CDC trip report later with some awesome pix of the WISH team and the gorgeous city, but probably no time until this weekend. I can't believe DD heads back to campus Friday and DS is away at sleepaway band camp until Thursday night.

Howard and I are doing the Lance Armstrong 5k here in town tomorrow night. I will be doing it without any training between the 1/2 marathon Sunday (and all the walking afterwards), but just can't figure out how to squeeze anything in tonight. I do not have any expectation at all for a good time tomorrow night but the cause is good and I don't expect to be DLF, so that will have to suffice. ;)

Started a new 100 crunch/100 push-up streak (I hope) last night in the hopes of being in better shape by ToT. I will probably just try to maintain a training base for the next month and concentrate more on weight loss. Lily gave me some great ideas for new and interesting, targeted exercises (thanks, sweetie! ), so I'll add that to my nightly home routine in the hopes of being stronger for the next race.

Hey Team.

I'm so envious of the WISH fun at the CDC. I had a nice little race but no big WISH meet, I can't wait to see everyone at TOT.

Erica and I did a brisk 6 miles in the park today. It wasn't quite as hot and humid so very pleasent day. Erica wore her new WISH hat but I'm saving mine for competition days. If it has as much magic as the shirt, I will kick butt.

Judy, glad you are about ready to start training again. You will do wonderfully.

Cam, you are amazing with your sit-ups and push-ups. You have to let us know how it's working out. I have thought many times about doing that very thing.

Everyone nursing a summer cold, get better, summer colds are awefull.

Have a great day y'all.

Hello team! I had to force myself out of the house and onto the treadmill this morning. And I"m glad I did. The 4 miles went by fairly quickly, and I had a great talk with the center's trainer about running, shoes, races, etc. Then I decided to attempt the waterpark again with the kiddos after my workout. DS enjoyed himself for all of 30 minutes and then turned into Mr. Crabby pants. Good thing my passes are free!

Sorry this is a drive by from me--but gotta hit the showers, so we can go to the grocery store this afternoon--or we might be having popcorn for dinner.

Mel - When I get back to training after my short break, I plan to do 3/2 or 4/2. That was my first time doing a 4/2, so I can try that out. If we are in different color placement, I guess we can try to meet up when they merge. Now that would be interesting!!!

Cam - Welcome back. I can't wait to see your pictures. I need a copy of the group photo. Good Luck on your 5K!!!!!

Judy - ROCK ON with the training. Take it slow tho!!!!

Just a quick post - I'm at work

Colleen I'm still trying to decide between the full and the 1/2. We run for the AT Children's Project and I have until October to sign up for either with them. We were all set to do full, bobby and I , but he had back surgery and can't and I have been struggling with back issues and I am afraid to committ to a full and not be able to do it. Plus I'm scared to do it by myself. I'm afraid I will come to hate the training.

anyway, don't know what to do :confused3

Just a word of warning... my PF hadn't bothered me at all, but after a week at Disney I was totally miserable. Wear shoes with as much support as you can - orthotics, whatever! I kept trying to wear Crocs in the afternoons and evenings, and I think that wasn't the best idea... PLEASE be careful!

Judy - Hooray that you're only a week away from training again!

Renee - Totally agree with you on the weather. I gave up the outside run last night in favor of the TM this morning inside. Just looked at the forecast for the rest of the week - think it may be another all-TM week!

Cam - I made it 45 consecutive days of crunches, then completely forgot them Saturday night. By the time I was snuggled into bed, decided it wasn't worth getting back up just to keep the streak going!

Ran 5 miles on the TM this morning. I actually ran a sub-10:00 mile for the first time! Okay, it was a 9:54, but it was still under 10:00. Did the 5 in 57:00.

Think I'm going to sneak off to Fleet Feet. Stick with the same shoes vs. try something new?

Did 5 miles on TM yesterday, then 3 miles today. I tried doing speedwork instead of just steady drudgery (mostly because my iPod was about to die). I did the last mile in an average of 8.45 mi/min. I was pretty pleased, although have to keep in mind it was on the TM, with a fan, no elevation, a cup holder, etc.;)

Funny thing happened though. There's a row of TMs- I'm on one end and a woman is walking on the other. I'm kind of oblivious listening to my iPod when suddenly I see a blur- she's fallen off the back! So I'm trying to stop my iPod, stop the TM, etc. and help her (but without flying off the back myself!) By the time I get everything under control, I see she is smiling sheepishly and isn't hurt. She gets back on. Then I see that she is wearing mule keds type shoes with no backs and no socks! Then she took off both her shoes and started walking barefoot. It was so odd. I was happy for the distraction though and glad she wasn't hurt.

Loved reading trip reports from CDC. It sounds like the race had issues, but how cool that everyone seems to agree that WISHers made it worthwhile! The medal was pretty sweet too.:thumbsup2

Anne, I hope your doing okay. I know it was a rough walk with your foot.

Jen, glad you made it pain free after the race. Have fun safe trip.

Have a great week!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I've been out of it lately. I just got back last night from a trip to Delaware to visit my parents. The whole family was packed in the van for the drive. We left after my 14 mile run on Saturday, and I haven't really run since. I'm going to try to get out today to get back in the swing of it. I want to go back and read the thread though and see how the CDC went. I'll be back.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Sunny- Hope you're doing well out there. WISHing you luck and good WISHes.

Welcome Karla- Always great to have new teammates. Welcome to the team. Keep us posted on your training.

nepatsfan73- Great job on your walk. WTG!!!

Ali- Welcome to the TEAM!!! I saw your thread on the budget board about the Disney Cool Wraps and that you made as a fundraiser for Team in Training. I'm glad you found your way over here. I think we might need a WISH Cool Wrap for the team. Great job on your 4 miler!

Steve- Thanks for posting from Chicago. Glad you had a good time over the weekend for the CDC. This is unrelated to the CDC, but I read an article on MarathonGuide that Pittsburgh is trying to start up their marathon again. Guess what date they're looking at? Yup, May 4, 2008 - Same as the Flying Pig. I might have a conflict.

Sara- I'm glad to hear you took it easy this weekend. Rest up that groin injury. I'm hoping to run with you and Colleen at the MCM in DC. A pain free 4:30 goal sounds like a good one to me.

Mel- Thanks for posting the picture with John Bingham. Man, I'm jealous. Nice race report. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with Jen. You got a dog? Wow, that sounds like fun.

Krista- Thanks for the race report. Sounds like you had a fun weekend in Chicago with the WISH team. The architectual boat tour sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad the race wasn't better for you though. Glad you had a good run with Steve. So it was better running with him this time than the 5K? So what made you sick? Did you have a flu bug or something? Thanks for posting pictures of the medals. They are nice.

Hi Judy- We'll have to find some other race to do together so we can meet.

Colleen- Great job on your 16 miles this past weekend, and congrats for entering the Disney Full marathon. WISH I could run with you again, but I'm looking forward to running with you and Sara at the MCM.

Meghan- Congrats on the CDC!

Stephanie- I'm sorry to hear you're getting into a rut in your training. I bet being a team captain for the Race for the Cure will get you out of your slump.

Jackie- Congrats on deciding to do the Raleigh full marathon!!! You know I've been wearing my Crocs alot lately when I was at Delaware, and I think they are not giving me enough support either.

Cam- Sounds like you had a great time at the CDC. Since I can't make Disney this year, I need to make sure I make it to another WISH race sometime.

Christa- Great to see you back. Nice outfit for the MS ride.

Kristi- Hello, I signed up to volunteer at the Disney marathon too, but alas, I need to cancel now.

Jen- I need to make my way over to the other thread to read the race reports. Sounds like you had a good time with Mel though. Sorry, I won't be with you guys at Disney this year. Have fun on your trip to OHIO!!! ;)

Carrie- I'm glad the heat didn't get to you too much at the CDC. I'm glad your new job is going well too.

Howard- Thanks for the race report. Wow, I'm impressed with your pace. WTG!!!

Rachael- Welcome to the team!

WWDave- Greetings!

OK, I skimmed through the thread, and think I'm caught up now.

Hey Team!!!!!!

Got a 4K on tap for tonight!!!!

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary   so out to dinner but I will get my walk in!! I have missed enough training.

At lunch today the Stanley Cup will be going through the middle of the town that I work in. Brad May who plays for the Ducks is from Stouffville so he is bringing the cup to town today and the parade will go right by my office at 1PM which is my lunch time, so I will bring my lawn chair, grab lunch at the Tim Hortons across the street and watch the cup go by....OK it doesn't sound that exciting but for a hockey freak like me this is a biggie....

Have a great day all.

Good Morning Team

I just found out that they just released passholder rates for hotels up through October or November. I'm still trying to get hotel for RFTT, but our AP's just expired. Normally whatever deals they release to AP holders not too long after they release to FL residents. If anyone is an AP and knows what rates they are offering, could you please let me know.

Thanks

Good morning, team!!!!! Happy Hump Day! (That's for you, Stephanie ;) ) I got in 3 miles last night, it was a pretty good run, I waited until 8:45 to go out, a little cooler, but still muggy. I have 7 tonight which I may be forced to run on the treadmill at Gold's. I hate running at Gold's--the treadmills are great there, but it is so HOT in there. I don't notice it when I bike or do the elliptical, but running is a different story. When I leave there after a run my hair is soaking wet (I have very thick hair, it takes a lot to get it all wet) and I have sweat running off my elbows. It's gross. But we're supposed to be having thunderstorms and temps in the mid 90's today, so I'm stuck with sweating at Gold's.

Dave--Um, excuse me, where do your loyalties lie? I expect to see you in Cincinnati on May 3. Great job on your 14 miler. How sore were your legs after the run and then sitting in a car for hours? I am NOT looking forward to the drive from Columbus to Cincinnati after the marathon in October. And why was I sick Sunday morning? It could have been the deep dish pepperoni pizza and carrot cake from room service at 11:30 Saturday night. :rolleyes1

Carrie--Have a good day at work today! I'm so happy you have found the perfect job. (Knock on wood!)

Rachel--Welcome!!! I'll e-mail you our bank routing number for your 16 million dollar check. ;)

Kim--Happy Anniversary!!!!!! Congrats on 20 years!

Maggie--How exciting that you are leaving for WDW today! Have a great time!!! I have the same camera that Cam has and I LOVE it. It takes great pictures.

Sara--Have you been able to run yet? Hope you are feeling better! :wizard:

Jackie--What kind of shoes did ya get?

Judy--Have a great time in Canada!!!!!

I better get off here and get to work, of course I said that yesterday and how many times did I post on the volunteer thread? Good thing my boss is on vacation this week! :)

Does anyone know if the One More Mile Running Skirt has shorts with it? The pic shows a pair next to it, however the description doesn't list shorts. Mel??? You bought one at the expo didn't you?

No training to report except for packing for Ohio! When I return I have been told I need to re-route my outdoor running patterns/paths due to the issues here. I am not to happy about that because it means I will have to drive somewhere to run. Think happy thoughts is all I can say to myself!!

GOOD MORNING TEAM!

Looks like everyone is training hard and improving their times. DH and I went on a hike yesterday, but had to cut it short after an hour, or so. We've been getting alot of thunderstorms lately, so when we felt the first few drops of rain, we high-tailed it back down the mountain. It's looking rather dark this morning too, so I'm not sure if I'll be doing my outdoor walk today. Thank goodness for treadmills. lol:rotfl: Have a great Wednesday!

Morning, WISHers!

I was planning on getting up at 7 and taking DD out running, but since I got a really poor night's sleep ended up sleeping until 7:45. I dragged DD out of bed and we did a 3 mile run together. (Still nice and cool - low humidity and it was still overcast then!) I should have run farther, but I really wanted to get her out and run with her so she'd have a good run. Believe it or not, she thanked me after we were done for making her do it! That girl can run forever with a soccer ball at her feet, but take it away and running becomes torture.

I made may ADR's for marathon weekend!  Got everything I wanted, too. My CM didn't know what "ADR" stood for, which I thought was pretty funny. Guess she hasn't had a lot of DISers on her line.

Happy training, all! :)

Good morning fellow WISHers! It is hump day, isn't it? Yeah! :cool1:

Yesterday went fairly well for me and training. I did get up early and ran 4 miles on the TM before work, then I ran 2 more before pump class (at between 5.6 to 6.0 mph). Pump class was than 60 minutes long......and I was tired! But, I do feel pretty good today!:cool1:

Maggie: Have a great time at WDW! I am sure your kids will be wild with excitment!

SWDave: I know how I felt after a 1/2 marathon and a six hour trip home....not my favorite experience!

Alladinsgirl: Good job on your 3 miles! I know about the hot gyms.....I end up looking like I just took a shower. I am not a mild sweater! I look like a drowned rat!

Jen: Good luck with the re-routing of your running pattern. I have to do that every so often ((((so I don't get so bored!))))) But, it has been so long since I ran around my neighborhood it will seem like brand new when I finally get out again! I miss it......the dreadmill is killing me!:headache:

PaDisneyFan: I hope that summer cold gets better soon.....I hate colds in the summer (they always seem so much worse!). Good luck with your LW this weekend.....it is supposed to be nice weather, though! :cool1: :cool1:

Good morning WISH Team.

I went out for my regular 4 mile walk on the hills. I managed a 13 mpm pace but the effort felt much harder. I guess I'm still a little tired from the race on Saturday. It was humid but not quite as hot.

Have a super day y'all.

Just a quick one as I have GOT to get some things done before I leave today. Off to Brockville, Canada tomorrow morning with Charlie's SCUBA group. Good morning WISHers!

Nothing too fancy to report here. Last night I did an hour on the elliptical, (~5 miles total it said). This morning I got up reeeeallly early (4:30 :scared: ) to fit in a 6 mile run on the TM. I used a 10:42/mi (5.6 mph) pace, which felt pretty good until right near the end, when my timer seemed to start counting down a lot slower than it had been! Now I'm feeling a bit tired, but at least my run is done for the day!

I'm flying down to FL tomorrow for a wedding this weekend (gonna be the first time I've seen all my high school/college friends since I've lost 90 lbs...I'm a little nervous, to say the least!), so just trying to fit in my workouts while I can...probably gonna be a little busy party: with my pals once I get there!

Have a great day everyone, and keep on doing great with your training!!

Morning folks! Boot camp last night and it was a workout..!!

We had a six station circuit to go through in pairs. While one of us performed the exercise at the station the other would lunge, do curtsy squats, or jump squats. The stations included:

Bicep curls while standing on a BOSU ball - standing on one foot if you could.
Throwing a medicine ball over your shoulder (but not actually letting go).
Step ups on a picnic bench while doing shoulder presses with 3 lb dumbells.
Tricep extensions with resistance tubing.
Push ups.
Modified pull ups.
The first time through the circuit we did the exercise for 1.5 min, then on the second go around we did the exercise for 1 min. Today I'm definitely feeling a little tight in my legs and lower back. I figure that some ab stiffness should be coming on at some point because I certainly worked them hard yesterday between pilates and the ab work at boot camp as well...

Tonight I'm shooting for speed work with my boot camp instructor's running group.

Moonie -- Congratulations on the weight loss! Your friends are going to be blown away!! And wait til you tell them about your training! :woohoo:

Okay, I am feeling soooo tired today and we have this 5k tonight. I am thinking I'd better start alternating coffee with my water! ;)
There were 829 participants in 2005 and in 2006 they only posted results for the first 524 but the race was even larger than 2005. My result last year was 45:06 and I ws the 459th finisher. It would be SOOO nice to see an improved time. Oh, and the weather last year was 76 degrees. About 7-10 degrees hotter tonight. UGH!!! I like hot weather wogging almost as much as Carrie likes hot weather running. ;)

Good Morning Team!

I feel like such a loser!! After running the 5K my knee and heel, I just gave up! Then I picked up "Marathons for Mortals" - the J. Bingam book - and it inspired me -

I've gone out there and did the "just go for 30 min" but it felt pretty good, so I stuck with it, going very very slow I did 3 miles - two days now!! I'm working on improving my "self talk" and was surprised at how much I could relate to the book!! (I so try and pretend not to be running if there is anyone - car bike etc) around!! I'm better now for reading the book!!

Hello all!!

Karla-- :welcome:

Heather-- :wizard: for a quick recovery for Kevin

ohMom-- If you're having trouble with getting into the groove when you start, try warming up a little longer before starting. It's a fine balance between enough and too much, I know. (And I'm the veteran of several runs and even a race after one/several too many and it does effect me. Mostly in terms of hydration... so that could factor it too)

Carrie-- Glad to hear the job is going well!!

Dona-- Congrats to you on DD's first day of college!!

Judy-- Glad to hear you'll be able to get back out and run now! Have fun on your weekend away!

Kim-- Congrats on 20 years!! Happy anniversary!!

Ohhh, I like that top. Not sure what I think about the pants...

Oh my. U-G-L-Y, they don't have an alibi. Hurts like a hangover. Seriously, if you ran up to me in those things, I'd pretend not to know you.... ;) :rotfl2:

CDCers-- Congrats on doing so well with the race in those conditions!! I'm so sorry to hear about the issues with the course and logisitics. I would think that a race run by JBR would be MOST racer friendly, but apparently there were some significant issues. :( It's good to hear that they are looking into improving the race for next year, but I think I'm going to reserve running that one for a couple years until I hear that things have improved.

As for me, well.... I'm in another LTO period. It's been a very frustrating couple of weeks around these parts for me, sadly. I'm finding myself doing a lot of reevaluating of stuff lately and that'll do nothing but get you down. :guilty: My training has been pretty awful too. I'm scheduled for an LR this weekend, so we will see how that goes. I'm still up in the air with respect to the Toronto marathon. I thought I was going to back out, but since I'm going to be making the trip anyway... then why not train double time and be ready?? I suppose it's another "run to Jesus" moment this weekend too... :guilty:

I can't believe we are SO CLOSE (less than two weeks) from the 20 weeks mark and "official" training for most of the full runners. Summer went by too fast, for sure.

Happy training all!

Good afternoon everyone!

Weird day today. Witnessed a traffic crash with vehicle rollover, driver entrapment, on the way to work this morning. Stopped, rendered assistance until the calvary showed up. The FD boys had to use the jaws of life and cut the roof of the truck off to get her out. The driver was awake and alert with no obvious serious injuries, but I'm sure she'll be sore in the morning. They actually caught the guy that caused the accident. So, that's a good thing.

I did find out one thing. My 12-hour antiperspirant only lasts about 30 minutes in this heat. :rotfl:

2.5 miles on the TM last night. I'm starting my premarathon training training. My running has been so on again, off again lately, I really need to get some mileage in. It's time to get with the program so I'm ready to start official training on 9/16.

Congrats again to our racers from this past weekend. Ya done good! :thumbsup2

All - Great job with the training! Keep it up.

I know I missed a lot of folks, but I'm way behind the power curve today.

Y'all take care. :)

Since the topic of the new running skirt/pant things? have come up I was wondering what most of you wear in the cooler months? So far I've only run in warmer months. I used to walk in the winter, but I don't think what I wore would work for running.

Yep, DH did get me the pink Helium 2 Fuel Belt for my birthday. I went ahead and opened it, though my birthday isn't until Sunday. :rolleyes1

I'm not used to running with anything attached to me like that, so the first part of my run this morning it bothered the crap outta me. After about half way though I was already used to it. :thumbsup2

I ran 4 miles this morning with an average pace of 10:55. Feet hurt for some reason when I started, but after about a mile they eased up.

DH is getting back in the swing for the RFTT. He has been running at night. It is so dang hot here.

Happy training to everyone.

I hate, hate, hate them with a passion (cuz they aren't flattering) but I wear running tights. Since things tend to get pretty cold around here it is really the best. So far Sugoi tights are my favorites for comfort and warmth. I have a pair of UA Cold Gear tights, but they don't have a drawstring in the waist and I am continually pulling those things up on my run!

Hey everyone! I'm slacking on this lately but I blame it on the stomach bug!

I missed my morning run today because I forgot I had to leave the house a half an hour early. I ran 2 miles at lunch in around 20 minutes, I believe it was just over. I got back to the office and I was so red that you could see it through my white UA shirt. It was like I was sunburned. I've never been this red after a run before, I wonder if it's because I'm just recovering from a chest cold so my breathing wasn't great or just the sun. Oh well. I also can't seem to break that 10 minute mile so that's something I've got to work on.

Been busy at work gearing up for orientation for the new school year, I love working at a college but we're heading into our busy time. I have to go read and catch up with everyone now!

Ended up talking myself out of a real shopping trip - took a virtual shopping trip instead to runningwarehouse.com. Decided if I was happy, might as well stick with the Nike Air Zoom Elites I've been wearing and save the money with our WISH discount. If I'd gone to Fleet Feet, they would have convinced me to buy them there, so this way I saved the gas and the extra $$. The only bummer is that the other color is available online, but they cost more, so I still ended up with the orange ones!

Cam - I'm wearing my Livestrong bracelet just for you today. Good luck tonight! I just got an invite to sign up for the one in Philadelphia, but that's a little far...

Meghan - Congrats on signing up for Indy! I suggested that perhaps I could run it in 2008 and then go to the race in '09, but Annie was having none of that. She's determined to see the race next year!

No training today. Set the alarm for 5:30 to do upper body weights, but turned it off. MUST go to bed early tonight and catch up on some sleep!

It's in the sticky at the top of the board "Running/Walking websites". Basically you go to the runningwarehouse.com website and click on the team discount link at the top of the page. Type in WISHD, hit enter and you'll get 15% off your order (excluding Mizuno and ASICS products)!

Hi Eveyone...hope I found the right place. I'm interested in joining your great group and finally getting into shape :)

Currently I am walking a 5K three times a week (in a slow pace of around 49 minutes), and adding some weight lifting and ellipitical in between.

I'm trying to figure out if I should push and try for the ToT or hold out for the Minnie marathon or whatever the replacement is.

So I thought I would check with the expects and see what everyone thought

Mile 2: 8:38
Mile 3: 9:17

I was about 2 minutes longer than my PR (24:53). I was still in recovery mode from our little jog at the CDC last Sunday. I was a bit sore at the start of the race tonight, but the kinks got worked out pretty quickly.

Have a great night! Happy Training!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

First off, I want to thank all the CDC racers for posting their trip reports, race reports, and pictures. You all are making me feel as though I was there with you. Thanks so much! I love the Reebok "Run Easy" slogans on the signs. I especially liked the one "A 10 min mile is just as far as a 6 min mile." Makes me feel good that I just bought DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess: Reebok running shoes at the Rehoboth Beach, DE outlets.

Yesterday I slogged through a 6 mile run in 58:29 min/9:43 mpm. My legs felt dead, and I felt very tired. It seemed like a ton of effort to get the steps in. I hoping I was just tired from the long drive back from Delaware on Tuesday. Who knows, I'll chalk it up as a run and move on...

Tonight is cross-country race night with my girls, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:. We had a lot of fun last week, and I'm hoping we have a good time again.

Krista- Hah, if I have control over it, I will be in Cincinnati to run the Flying Pig 08. I had such a great time with the WISH team, and seeing all the pictures of CDC makes me think that Cincy is going to be another fun time. I'm kind of hoping they don't revive the Pittsburgh Marathon in 08, because I will have a lot of family pressure to run it. My MIL lives one block off the old course, and would see the runners going by.

Jen- Have a great trip to "Ohio" ;) . When do you leave?

Monte- How did your outdoor walk go?

Renee- Congrats on your 3 mile run with your DD. That's awesome. How old is your DD? I seem to remember thinking she's older than my girls. Didn't you say that she wouldn't be happy with the toy aisle at Target for presents?

Beth- Wow, great job on the workouts yesterday. 2 runs and a pump class, you rock! :thumbsup2

WWDave- Great job on your walk yesterday.

Judy- Have a great trip to Canada. Hope your foot continues to heal.

Moon- Great job on the 6 mile run, and great job on the 90 lbs weight loss. Congratulations! Have fun with your friends in FL.

Leana- Your boot camp sounds tough. You keep it up.

Sandy- You are never, ever a loser. None of that talk here. Good for you for getting out there and getting your steps in 2 days in a row. Keep it up. Remember, no more of that loser talk here (or anywhere for that matter).

Kevin- Thanks for checking in. Sounds like you have a lot of stuff going on in your life right now. Good luck with your reevaluating and soul searching. I know that can be so draining. Good luck with your decision on the Toronto marathon. Don't be a stranger.

Vic- Wow, good for you for stopping and helping out with the accident. You're a real hero. :thumbsup2

Shan- Nice job on the 4 miler!

Meghan- Congrats on completing your first 1/2 marathon! WTG!!! Congrats on going over the 200 mile mark too.

Megan- Good for you for getting your miles in over lunch. WTG!!

Welcome disneyluv- Always room for another teammate!

Cam- Congrats on the Livestrong 5K last night!

Howard- Wow, I'm really impressed with your 5K time especially after running a half marathon this weekend. WTG!!!

Good morning, WISHers!

This morning I've got to take my dad to the airport, so my workout will have to wait until this evening when both kids have soccer. Since it's supposed to hit triple digits again, it'll probably end up being on the treadmill. Sigh.

Renee- Congrats on your 3 mile run with your DD. That's awesome. How old is your DD? I seem to remember thinking she's older than my girls. Didn't you say that she wouldn't be happy with the toy aisle at Target for presents? You are correct! She is 13 (will be 14 in 2 weeks). For her birthday she wants a digital camera (since she can't have a trip to NYC for the weekend). Cha-ching!

Cam & Howard - Wow! Great 5K! And sounds like wonderful food afterward!

disneylov - WELCOME! Come join us at the ToT 13K - you could do it!

Jackie - I will be on the lookout for someone running in orange shoes! (I was out last weekend and saw someone with a Mickey shirt - wondered if it was you or Jeanne). Did you catch up on your sleep?

Shan - I hate running tights! I usually pull on a pair of short over them.

Leana - I guess one of the benefits of living in the south is not needing too much winter running gear. I have to keep reminding myself of this as you're getting to run in nice cool weather and I'm stuck on the treadmill!

Meghan - Hope your recovery goes well!

Vic - Horrible accident! I love the pre-marathon-training training! 9/16 will be here before you know it!

Kevin - Sorry you're going through a rough time. 2007 has not been a banner year for my family and sometimes it's tough. Seems like there's a lot of that going around!

Sandy - Good job with the 2 3 milers! I laughed at your comment about the cars/people passing! I used to feel the same way!

moon - Up at 4:30? I think you may have beat MSDave!

Judy - Have a good trip!

WWDave - Hope your walk is easier today!

Beth - Treadmill, treadmill, pump class ... makes me tired just reading your post!

Monte - A hike in the mountains sounds so good right now! And so does the rain!

Megan - Sometimes I'm really read after a run! It has been happening less, though. Not sure why.

Mr. DB - Boy, you are really into shopping right now! ;)

Sorry to anyone I missed!
Happy training, all! :)

Good morning, team!!!! So glad it's almost Saturday. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I had the most excellent 7 mile run last night--I needed that SO bad. I ran on the treadmill at Gold's in the cardio theatre. Normally I hate running there, because it's so hot in there, but last night it wasn't that bad. My time was 1:20:10, so about 11:30ish, but the best part is when the 7 miles were completed, I could have run longer--that NEVER happens to me. I'm the one looking at my Garmin every 2 seconds once I'm a tenth of the mile from being finished because I just can't take an extra step once I hit the magic number. And my legs feel great, not sore or tired, I even wore my big heels to work today. :) I'm just so excited because I've really been struggling with training for this marathon. Anything over 4 miles and I just don't want to do it. I've gotten in all my runs and my long runs, but I've grumbled and complained and hated every minute of it. So having a good 7 mile run last night was HUGE for me. :) Tonight I have xt and weights, so it should be a relatively easy day.

Cam and Carrie--You girls will be so proud of me, yesterday I only had 1 can of Diet Coke and I drank 50 oz of water. :woohoo: I wonder if that's what made my run so great last night. Hmmm...:scratchin

Cam and Howard--Congrats on your 5K last night! Can't wait to hear your splits, Cam!

Dave--Just bring your MIL to Cincy for the Pig, she can scream team with me. ;)

Kevin--Good to see you, ZB, we've missed you!! I hope life settles down for you soon.

Jackie--You remembered to get the free 2nd day air shipping from runningwarehouse.com, right? I ordered 2 boxes of Gu from them last Tuesday and it was delivered Thursday morning. And the savings were huge, my running stores sells the Gu's for $1.25, through runningwarehouse I got 48 Gu's with shipping for $42.50. I love a good sale!!!!! :woohoo:

Moon--Make sure you let us know what your friends say when they see you! Have you told them you lost the weight at all? I'm so proud of you and so excited for you!! Have fun this weekend.

Shan--Congrats on 200 miles!!! :dance3: And by the way, I have a feeling you will look fabulous in running tights! princess:

Disneyluv--Welcome!!!!

Well, I better get off here and get to work, have a great day, Wish team!!!

It is so hard to keep up with this thread so I am unable respond to each one individually, but everyone is working so hard and it helps to keep me motivated.

Moon-- Congratulations on your weight loss.

Good Job Cam and Howard on your 5K. You are lucky to have so many races close to you in the middle of the week.

Started the week off with the cold but it has improved.

So far this week training has consisted of

Tues 4 miles TM and Pump class
Wed 4 miles TM and stretch class
Hope today to do another 4 miles and pump class with CreativeBeth. We enjoy being tortured together by the instructor. This instructor would do well in the boot camp that someone mentioned that they go to. Despite what she tries to do to us we will never look like her and she just doesn't seem to realize that.

Plan for my LW on Sat. It is suppose to be a beautiful weekend in central PA so the weather should not be a factor with walking outside.

So, I guess I am not getting out of the torture class tonight huh PaDisneyFan?:confused3 Darn it, thought maybe you would forget!:lmao: The last pump class was specifically a torture for me, huh?:sad2:

Yesterday was a 4 mile TM run after stretch class. After a mile, I really wanted to stop (((actually did for about 30secs))) but really didn't have a great excuse to stop. The kids were at b-ball with dh, and not coming home until after 7:30. I had already made supper before getting to the gym. I had a fan all to myself and a TV on reruns of Reba. My iPod was fully charged and working. I was really reaching for an excuse, but there was NONE. So, I got back on the horse for another 3 miles.....   I am glad I did NOW, but certainly not while it was happening! There was absolutely nothing interesting going on around me to distract me (I love watching crazy gym people). Oh well, I still got it done!

So, today is a big exercise day for me. I will run (on the TM since it's raining like crazy), I will have pump class, low impact aerobics with dh, and stretch.

SWDave: Thanks for the encouragement, but I have to say breaking up my six miles in two different TM runs was much easier than cranking it all out at once! The only reason I do pump class is b/c it's good for me. I wouldn't get any weights in without it! I hate the machines at the gym! And pump class really helps me get functionally strong.

PaDisneyFan: You have had an awesome week with having a summer cold! I am glad it's better and I will see you tonight for TP (torture pump!).

Alladinsgirl: Great job on the TM run! I love it when it all works out!;)

Everyone else have a great day!

Sunny - I think your latest 'test drive' is happening today. Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Tiffany emailed me a few days ago. Her & the boys had a great time at Disney World. She is starting to get moving again with the couch to 5k program. She also said she misses everyone here!

Off to go camping up north. Training for ToT starts Monday - and I am bound & determined to get back at it 100%. That means with Weight Watchers as well. And it will be easier since Zack got into the preschool we really wanted! So, 2 days a week, I will have NO excuse for not working out. ;)

HI everyone. Just a quicky from me today. No training this week because I am just too busy. We leave for "Ohio" bright and early Saturday morning.

I am just so tired of all the stress in my life. I seriously never imagined I would be living a bad TV series life. Everything is so unbelievable and this stuff just doesn't have to average people like my family.

Kristi - Have a great time Camping

Krista - Wowzers on the TM run. Good for you and I am happy it was pleasant!!!! I am thinking about the Pig for 2008, but no promises yet. I am just getting over CDC and who knows how the full will be in January. I share your struggles with training... if I didn't get a medal in the end, I am not sure I would do this!!!

Dave - Saturday morning is the big day. We will have internet access since we will both be working while on vacation. I will try to pop in and update everyone on how the suprise went. My excitement for telling them is so high right now that I have almost blown it 1000 times. And the funny thing is that I have Disney stuff sitting in my room to pack and they have both looked at it, but no lightbulb clicks yet!!!

Cam (and Howard) - Congrats on the run last night!!!! Did you see the CDC photos are finally up.

Ok, gotta run (not literally!). Have a great day everyone. I miss my daily check ins and chats.

Last night I met up with the running group for a few speed pick ups. The plan was for a 10 min easy jog to warm up, 10 repeats of 2 min fast/1 min slow, then another 10 min easy jog to cool down. The easy jog was great - we were going slow and having a great conversation....and then the speed work started! The three gals I was running with took off and my speed just wasn't there. There were another two ladies behind me, but they were way behind me by the time the speed work started, so I was pretty well on my own the entire way. I've been holding a pretty consistent 11:30/mi on my training runs for months now so it looks like I really only have one speed. I found each pick up I was slowing down, partially because I was tired, but also because halfway through I was having some major chub rub issues! I totally forgot to put on Body Glide and I really regret that. It definitely made the rest of the run painful. I finished with 4.68 mi in 50:15 for a 10:44/mi pace. I think since I hated the speed work so much I really need to try and incorporate it on a regular basis to get better at it.

I also have some pretty painful "friction burns" this morning. We are supposed to be doing some running tonight at boot camp, so this may be a bit painful...

I bet the Disney trip is something fun to look forward to. So are you going down for the Free Dining Promo? When I finally decided not to run the Disney Marthon in January 08, I was saying to my DW that "maybe we could go down next summer during the Free Dining Promo." Now I have something to look forward to.

Good moning Gentle WISH Warriors.

It's wonderful to see how the WISH group is growing. The idea is so important. It's groups like this that are the hope for the future for our country of out of shape people.

If our country were to take the WISH concept to heart and exercise regularly, our health care system would be wonderfully better quickly. The health care system is over whelmed by the injury and disease caused by the evils of smoking, overweight and unhealthy eating.

Our personal health costs would go way down since we healthy people are paying for the ones who choose to abuse themselves with the "Good life".

I would love to see our country make it easier to comute to and from work by walking or biking. Where I live there are very few sidewalks or even shoulders on the roads. We are a small town that grew up with poor planning for such things. I'm one of the few voices in the dark trying to get the changes made. It's slow but it's happening.

Ok off my soap box. I'm just in that kind of mood today. I was walking my miles this morning, having to walk in the gutter on the side of the road, bumper to bumper traffic with parents taking their kids to school or going to work. Nearly every car the driver was smoking, eating or talking on the cell phone or some of each. Number of other people I saw exercising "0".

Have a great day everyone, and thank you for being there.

Okay, here are my official results from last night. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but I have to be realistic about the weather and being tired from CDC.
It was 83 degrees and 40% humidity (they actually put that on the website above the results. :) )
time: 44:42 pace 14:26 placement 644/804
last year it was 76 and clear and my time was 45:06 (14:33)

Howard and Jessica were totally rocking. I am so proud of Jess. She has never done a sub-8:00 mile before and their miles were 7-something, 8-something and 9-something. She was hoping to finish around 29:00 and I think they were around 26:25-30. How awesome is that! And she looks great, too! Here we are post-race (of course she had nearly 20 minutes to recover before I showed up! :lmao: )

Jen or anyone else going to WDW soon -

Could I trouble someone to pick up a park map from each of the four parks for me? I am more than happy to pay for postage.

I have framed park maps hanging in my DDs' bathroom and they look so great that I decided to do the same in my new office. I don't want to wait until January to get a set of maps and would really appreciate it if someone could send a set my way.

My walking assignments for this week are as follows: Monday 2.5, Thursday 2.5, Saturday 3, Sunday 2 - plus a cross training/weights video Today. :woohoo:

Thought I'd do a little checking in: Monday I did my 2.5, Tuesday I rested, Yesterday I did the 1 Minute Workout video with weights. Has anyone else tried that one? It's fantastic! The workout is completely customizable, broken into 1 minute segments put together. Sometimes they are good, like all the floor stuff in a row, then all the standing stuff. Last night's workout was up-down-up-down. The stretching is wonderful in the cool-down segment.

Tonight is a 2.5 mile walk. It's supposed to be raining, but I have a poncho. Yes, that's right, a poncho. It's red and unbelievably ugly. If you see any national news reports of a giant apple wheezing up some steep hills in Western Washington, you'll know who they're talking about. :thumbsup2

Enjoy your Thursday everyone!!!

Meghan - We are leaving on Saturday and I will try to get you some park maps, and keep them from getting mangled. PM me your address and I can mail them when I get back. I would like a new set for myself, so I will just grab 2 while I am at it!

SWDave - We didn't get free dining, but we got a discounted package. We are also staying at POP for the first time, so it is a budget trip. The discounted dining made it even more worth it. Seriously, we are paying less for the room, dining and tickets than what we paid for WL only marathon weekend. Can't beat that!!!!

Afternoon teammates! Yesterday was a rest day for me and today got in an 8 miler (1:13). A minute slower than last week--but was having a really hard time getting going. The first mile was torture, but then after 10 minutes or so I got into my grove. Then it was errand/shopping xtraining. It's amazing what you have to go through for preschool--you'd think DD was starting college!;)

Now, I"m gonna try to squeeze in a catnap before we head back out to Target this afternoon. It never ends! Have a great afternoon all! Sorry for the drive-by!

Don't forget, you can order personalized custom maps from the Disney website. I've did this twice, ( you can do it again after a certain amount of time) so that I can have one map of each, and I'm going to frame them. They are really beautiful!

Good Evening Team

No training tonight, but ran 3 with Bobby again last night.

Beth & Nancy I am so jealous listening to you guys talking about your pump classes. I have taken pump at my gym for 3 1/2 years and it was the only thing -- including all the cardio-- that I found really made a difference in my body and the way I looked. I am the same as you Beth - hate the machines and the PUMP kicks your but. I had really built up to some good weight too, now leaving for work at 7 am and getting home at 6 pm, I have not found time to go, except Saturday mornings. I love that class.. So next time you guys go PUMP a little extra for me K??

Stephanie Awesome 8 miler, you are well past my PR at MINNIE!!! That darn potty break. I will have you know I felt really bad, cause I was going to wait for you guys but I was so afraid I would never be able to catch you. I'm really leaning towards the full this year, my back is getting better, but that sub 4, we were all talking about after MINNIE is a very lofty goal for me at this point, but not for you. Maybe you will still be there to cheer me on when you get done!! :dance3:

I almost forgot Jen we have stayed at almost every hotel at Disney, and we love the POP you will have a great time and please give Mickey a big hug for me I miss him.

I'm so sorry for everyone else I missed, it is very late and has been a very long day!!

Had a great 4 miler tonight, wasn't totally comfortable but I was pushing it a little bit for the second half because I was significantly less tired during the first half than I had been during previous 4 milers over the last few weeks. Last Thursday's my splits were 10:03, 10:12, 10:32, 11:06. As you can see fading throughout and a terrible run. This Thursday was 9:48, 9:48, 9:57, 9:36. Not only more steady, but obviously a bit faster. Last Saturday's tempo "pace" run on Sat avg'd 9:25, but I had been shooting for 9. Based on the improvement this week hoping to get closer to that. Last Sunday's 8 miler ended up 11:17 avg with loads of walking, hoping this Sunday's 9 miler gets back towards 10mpm running continuous.

As you can see high hopes! One exciting thing is I was looking forward to this Sunday and finishing the 9 miler because that would be a 21 mile week, my first 20+ week since doing 2 half marathons in one weekend way back in Feb! But then I realized based on last weekend's 4+8, and the two 4's Tue and tonight, I'm already at 20 for the last 7 days wrapped around between two weeks, yay. :yay:

Disneyland HM is creepin up!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Last night I ran in the x-country races at our neighborhood park with the princesses, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:. Everyone seemed to have lower energy last night. DD6 pooh: really wanted to get out there and run, but DD9 princess: needed some convincing. They decided to run the 800 m race this time, and I ran with them. They did great. I ran the 5K (slightly longer than a 5k), and I was really happy with my race. I finished in 26:35 min/7:54 mpm. I considered it my tempo run for the week.

Cam- That is a great picture of you and your DD. You should be very, very proud. You're looking good too!

Rachael- You're having a great training week. Hope your walk went well last night. Did you have to use your poncho?

Jen- Whoo hooo on the package deal. You gotta let me know how you like POP. I'm thinking if we go back next year and try to get the free dining, that we might try a budget trip at a value resort.

Stephanie- Very nice 8 miler! You are right on pace for that 4 hour marathon. Looking good!

Vic- Nice job with your TM run. How's your foot holding up?

Beth- That is a great workout day. 5 miles on the TM plus the 90 min of x-training. Wow, you are in shape!

Angie- Hope everything is going well with you. Good for you for doing the 3 miles with your DS. How's your back these days?

Matt- Very nice 4 miler. WTG! Looks like your conditioning is coming back pretty quickly. Good luck with your 9 miler this weekend.

Good morning WISHers....it's the end of the week! And, what a killer week it was! Last night's pump class was more like boot camp. The trainer was into hurting us, and she did it well.:confused3 :confused3

The 5 miles I did was at 5.5 mph, but I figured out to make the class in time I had to speed up the last mile. I bumped the speed to 6.0 mph (10 min mile) for the last mile and it kicked my butt! I got all 5 miles in at 55:00 though. It was a good workout. Then, I figured out that it was the 'boot camp' pump class and I was sad :guilty: that I had pushed myself so hard on the treadmill. I looked like a drowned rat after class! And, I am sore this morning and not sure actually which one caused it!:confused3

Nancy.....how are you feeling? Sore? We had a good workout, though didn't we?

SWDave: I guess I may be fit, under all this fat! But, who would know?:rolleyes1

Angie: Nancy and I will think of you the next time the trainer is kicking out butt!

Beth--- Other than my shoulder, I don't feel sore yet. It probably be tomorrow during my LW that my legs start screaming at me.

Angie-- I noticed a difference when I didn't do pump class during the winter. I was so intense on just building up my walking endurance in preparation for my first half marathon in April, that I dropped doing all the classes at the gym from Jan until I completed that event. I also hate the machines so if I don't do the class their is no strength building done on my own. It is amazing how fast you lose what you gained when you don't keep at it. So I have made a committment to somehow get to those classes while training for the Mickey. So I will pump hard and think of you. Now if I could just give you some of the soreness. :rotfl2:

Rachel--- How was you walk in the rain with the poncho? Doesn't it get hot with that on?

Jen--- Have a great trip to WDW.

Stephanie--- Good job on 8 miles

Vic--- Good for you doing 2.5 on TM.

Stacey--- I didn't realize that about the custom maps. Thanks for the information.

Matt--- Good job on your 4 miler.

Dave--- How nice that you are able to race with your daughters.

Cam--- Nice picture of you and DD.

My training yesterday was 4 miles on elipical and pump class. I had to do my miles after class as I had to deal with WDW reservations before class to try to switch to the AP rate for ToT weekend. Of course after being on hold and then finally getting through being told the computer is down. So had to deal with them again after the gym. Was eventually successful to switch my reservation and get the $50 dining card. At least I hope I have the dining card as it is not listed on the reservation confirmation.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Cam- That is a great picture of you and your DD. You should be very, very proud. You're looking good too!

Cam--- Nice picture of you and DD.

Okay, Nancy and Dave -- this just had me torn between :lmao: and :sad1: The lovely "young" woman in the picture is my law partner, Jess, and I'd have had to have her when I was 6 for her to be my DD. ;) Thank you for the compliments, however!

Matt -- congrats on the mileage

Dave -- so glad you were able to get the girls out in the August heat. What troopers. I just saw that you were in DE last weekend. I guess you planned that specifically for when Howard and I were in Chicago, right? :rotfl: J/K. Hopefully, one of these trips will include a stop in North Wilmington.

I know I missed soo many people. I am so swamped at work and life is really crazy.

I am thinking so much of Sunny and hoping we'll hear from her soon.

Sunny -- sending you pixiedust:

Sorry to be such a slouch! I hope to catch up this weekend.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Good morning, team!! Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad it's the weekend, I'm meeting my college roommates in Columbus tomorrow for lunch. I'm excited to see them, but now I have to do my lr on Sunday afternoon. Last night I went to the gym for xt and lifting. I rode the bike for 30 minutes on the hill program, but I didn't have much hills, I must have set the bike for 60 minutes instead of 30, so I was just getting into the rolling hills when my 30 minutes were up. I guess I could have stayed and biked an extra 30 minutes, but after working all day and stopping at the gym on my way home, I just wanted to get home. Tonight I have 4 miles, again at gym as our treadmill is still broken (trying to get someone out to fix it) and tomorrow is my rest day.

Body Pump Girls--Can you explain to me exactly what body pump is like? We have the classes at Gold's, but I haven't been yet. I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into before I go, kwim?

Stephanie--Great 8 mile run!!!! I can't get over how fast you are!!!

Jen--Have a awesome in WDW!!!! Please try to forget everything that is going on at home and enjoy the time with your beautiful family.

Sorry this is a partial drive-by, I'll be back later.

Is that the girl who runs a half marathon every Saturday, but doesn't train at all during the week?

Great memory, Krista. Yes and no. She does 13.1 every weekend (sometimes at high noon on Long Beach Island in the brutal sun  ) and tries to get to the gym for 3 miles on the TM 2 or 3 nights a week. She is also the person who recommended the architectural tour that we did.

Good morning everyone!

2.5 miles on the TM again last night. Nice to be back and able to train consistently again.
Now, it’s onwards and upwards with the mileage.

SWDave – Congrats with the 5K, and glad to hear the DDs had a good time. The foot is doing ok. The PF is still there. Guess I’m going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

Beth – WTG with the training!

Matt – WTG with the 4 miler.

Nancy – WTG with the training!

Krista – Have fun tomorrow.

I'm so embarassed Cam. I was following Dave's lead I thought he knew she was your DD. I am terrible with looking at people and knowing their ages. I am hanging my head in shame. :guilty: You look great.

Krista--- If you hate using the weights and machines at the gym this is a great class. You work all the muscle groups. It is for strength building and toning. We do squats, luges, ab workouts, legs exercises, with the weights we work out shoulders, chest, triceps, biceps, back etc. Some classes use the big ball and slide gliders. You will see it listed at various gyms such as Define Yourself or Power Pump. They are all basically the same. I think it is a good total body workout and you have to working off some calories in the process.

Nancy and Dave -- you know I LOVE you guys!!!! I just had to rag on you about that. ;) Now, I can't figure out whether Jess looks about 25 or I look about 55! :lmao: Really, I didn't take it personally.

Dave -- we'll catch up with you the next time you are on this section of 95!

Okay, all this talk of pump classes, etc. has me really craving a structured workout and something on my schedule that will have me XT at least one night a week. I am off to check our YMCA website. The fitness center is closed next week for renovations, so I am going to look at doing a drop-in class or two. Thank you for motivating me when I am definitely not feeling it right now. Oh, and I am going to make a commitment here to get up tomorrow morning and Sunday morning and take my dog for a walk. She isn't very fit and I am thinking it would be so nice to spend this quality time together each morning. Of course, she isn't up to any of the great running that Krista and Christa's furbabies do, but I am thinking something is better than nothing, especially since my "other" little girl heads back to college today. Better spend quality time with the ones that are left, right? ;)

Happy Friday everyone!

I apologise that I haven't had a chance to respond to everyone individually this week. It has been a total LTO kind of time lately. Last night was boot camp and it involved a lot of running up and down stairs and oodles and oodles of push ups (I estimate about 200) leaning against the railing of the stairs. My arms are so tired and the soreness has started creeping in... Today is a rest day (which I feel like I really need now!), tomorrow is a 10 mile run.

I am one confirmed flight away from having a big trip sorted out over Christmas and New Years. It will be interesting to see how the travel, holiday and time change affect my taper for the Goofy. Providing things work out I'll be in Singapore for Christmas and Perth, Australia for New Years. There will be plenty of opportunity for beach running in Australia, and I think I'll be able to run up and down the main shopping drag along the sidewalk in Singapore, so it should work out. I'll come home, go back to work for a few days, then turn around and head to WDW. All of this travel so early in the year may impact my racing schedule for next year since I'll be using up so much vacation time. I'm still hoping to do a Minnie/Princess run if they decide to put one on though!

Well everyone. I just got done with my LR for the week. I had to run it today intead of Saturday, because of football. Michael's and NFL!! So today I ran 9 miles this morning in 1:23:13. I ran the first 6 miles in 57:00 avg 9:30mpm. Then the last 3 I ran in 26:16 avg 8:44 mpm!! That put me at 19 miles this week, which means next week marks my first 20 mile week since training for Disney last year. I getting excited!!

Kristi - I can't wait until my youngest starts preschool. Just a little bit of quiet during the day would be nice. Then again, I may just be stressed with the end of summer getting here my 2 are driving me INSANE!!

Jen - Have fun in Ohio!!

Leana - Why is it the things we hate the most are the things we probably need to add to our training?! Hills.... I hate hills!!

Meghan - You might want to check out these maps. They are free and are REALLY neat looking, and you can get new ones mailed to you every 6 weeks!! Disney Customized Maps (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/myVacation/customizedMaps/index?id=CustomizedMapsSampleMapsPage)

Thanks for all the well wishes on our "Ohio" trip. The girls still don't know, but I bet anything they will scream when they hear, then roll their eyes that we didn't tell. I have to do this now, because once they get older we won't get the thrill of it!!!! I have a HS Musical tee for dd6 and a Tink tee for dd4 that we will give them once we tell them. Plus, I have autograph books that they get to decorate on the second leg of the flight, you know, the one that LEAVES OHIO!!!!

Krista and Steve - I will wave when we pass through Cinncinati!!!! Maybe I can drop some Pixie Dust on you!

Cam - I am with you, all this talk of Pump Class has me wanting to do one. Last year my schedule and the girls schedule didn't allow for organized classes at our Y. I am hoping with the school and busing changes that maybe I can find one that fits my schedule. I really don't want to do the Saturday morning classes because that is my LR day.

Dana - ROCK ON with your miles!!!!!!

SWDave - I will give you a full report on POP. We are excited about trying it out. AND, they have slushies in their soda machine area that are included with the refillable mugs. DD's will LOVE that!

Vic - I am glad your foot is feeling better. Mine too, tho at times it hurts like a motha still when I overdo it!!!

Matt - It is awesome to see you back!!!

OK, gotta run to lunch. We are cashing in our coins that we save for WDW spending money!

Quick drop in post -

Got my run in this morning - 4.1 miles with an average pace of 10:32. Felt pretty good. For the week I ran 12.11 miles with an average pace of 10:37.

Sunday is my birthday so DH is taking me out to dinner downtown and then to see the comedian Kathy Griffin. Everyone in the house is excited cause my girls are going to spend the night with my Mom and watch the High School Musical 2 premiere. Tomorrow we're going to the American Girl store grand opening. I best get a night job to afford what that store is gonna cost me!

Got two birthday cards in the mail today with checks! Looks like I'm gonna get to order that Garmin soon! :woohoo:

Hope everyone has a great weekend and awesome runs! :wizard:

OK, Pump fanatics- I've never seen a Pump class but they might have them at my gym. The last organized class I did was an aerobics class years ago and it involved me constantly being on the wrong side of the stupid step thing. You know, not so much a fitness problem as a coordination problem.:rolleyes1 Is this Pump class you speak of easier to deal with? You've got me intrigued...

Good news: I did 4 miles on the TM giving me 20 for my total this week. Bad news: I'm getting kind of bored before my Goofy training has even started. I may actually have to face the elements outside just for some variety...

Jen -- Have a great trip!
Shan -- Happy Birthday!
Jen -- I am with you on the coordination thing! Total lost cause. Looks like there are a couple of evening fitness classes that will start right after labor day. Fortunately for me, sign up for full Y members is this Sunday, so I didn't miss it and hopefully the classes wont' be filled instantly. I'll run over there on Sunday when it opens and sign up for it. Looks like there is a Monday night pump class and they seem to bill it as what looks like working with weights. Is that right?

angietuck2
08-17-2007, 01:27 PM
Jen & Cam The only coordination involved in PUMP is lifting and putting down the bar. No seriously, we use a step to lay down on for triceps and chest. But the class consists of using weights and working individual body parts for about 4 to 5 minutes each. For example squats for an entire song with a bar with weights on your shoulders, another song where you work your chest laying down on the bench with a bar with weights, same for biceps (standing up) There is not much moving around and no cardio involved whatsoever, except when we do squats I am always breathing hard and sweating.

I absolutely LOVE it and can't wait to go in the morning.

Girls, I can't say that I LOVE pump class but I have to say that it's a really good workout. I don't like the machines at the gym, but I definetly need to do weights. Pump includes all muscle groups, uses weights, and also includes a good cardio (increase MY heart rate at least!). Without an organized class, I would avoid all lunges, squats and weights! I have joined PaDisneyFan's gym because of the great class schedule. When doing this I have committed myself to 2 pumps classes, and 2 stretch classes a week. I have done pretty well getting it done so far.

I feel alot better when I cross train, and do my strength classes. When I didn't get a good class in a couple times a week, I got the fat all back in my middle. I have been working my fanny off to get rid of it again! UG!!!!!

Jen-My parents surprised my brother, sister and I with a surprise trip to WDW when I was 13(I turned 14 while we were down there.) They actually took us out of school on my birthday to go and I was beyond mad at them. I liked school and also wanted to be with my friends on my birthday. They told us when we got to the airport that we weren't really giving my mom's friend a ride, she was giving us a ride to catch a plane to WDW. All thoughts of being mad or upset were gone and I freaked out. I'm 25 now and I still remember that trip and I'd be just as excited if not more so to have my parents surprise me now. So the thrill won't really go away for any of you. Hope you have a great trip.

So I was aggravated after my 2 miler that I can't do well with getting my pace below 10 minutes so I decided to do a 1 miler today to see how fast I could do it. Well on this mile run I realized what my problem is, my motivation to run is excellent but when I get out there I can't push myself to run faster. (Which I know I can do.) So how do all of you motivate yourself to push faster or harder? I know it's in me but I just can't seem to bring it out.

Hey all! Got outside for a run today!:cool1: Only had 5 miles on the schedule, so I thought I'd get up early and head out. It was pretty nice--really humid and getting hot towards the end but what can ya do? At least our heat wave will break somewhat this weekend, giving me a little relief for my LR on Sunday. But for the specifics, 5 miles in 46:something (would've been under that 9:00/mile but had to make a potty stop)

Oh, and some sort of exciting news--I am going to be taking a part-time job at the fitness center my dsis works at. Pretty much sitting at the front desk and answering phones--maybe a shift or two in the daycare. The pay is pretty low--BUT I'll get a free membership to 2 of the most exclusive health clubs in the city. Pysched about that!

Sorry I'm not responding to anyone right now--I'm waiting on a call back from an insurance company. Someone hit my car in the target parking lot yesterday afternoon and we're sorting it all out. Ugh! Not what I needed!

Stephanie that will be fun working at the health club. There should be lots of positive energy there, making it easy to stay charged yourself.

Mouse Buddy, have a good 16 miler. Erica and I won't be into miles like that till fall. We want to do a few more long walks than we did for the marathon training since we are doing the Goofy this year.

It's finally a bit cooler in the South this weekend, it's about darn time. These days in the 100s and breaking heat records really are yucky.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Hi Wishers.

What a week. Here's how it turned out.

I did 3 mile walk on Wednesday morning. Then finished getting things ready to move DD to college -- including leaving things in place for the little kids who were staying home with my mom while we were gone. DS went along to be free labor for the move. Picked up DD new contacts and got my port flushed before picking up DH after work. Grabbed a quick dinner and drove approximately 4 hours-- arriving at relatives' home about 11pm.

On Thursday we moved DD into the dorm -- a few minor glitches, which I will spare you -- but things went well, with the exception of the approximately 105 degree heat! DD stayed in the dorm and the rest of us descended on our hosts again at about 11 pm. Home again on Friday.

This morning (Saturday) I walked 5 miles -- again focusing on miles and not times.:woohoo:

I am really getting excited to start putting in more miles. Having the marathon to work toward has really made the transition to "college mom" much easier.

Thanks for listening.

Stephanie--- Congratulaions on your new part time job.

Dave--- Great job on your 16 mile run.

Angie--- At least you were able to get the core and pump class done. Today my legs and triceps are hurting from Thursday's class. I tend to get delayed sorness 2 days after class.

Dona--- So glad my days of moving children back and forth from college are done. Now I am just the storage area from all those items they needed. I have microwaves, refrigators, computers, TV's, assorted pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etx. Could I ship any to you? Good luck to your DD.

I walked 9 miles today. It was beautiful weather and cool but not cold. It wasn't my best 9 miles, but it is done.

Ran 15 Saturday...VERY HOT (got up to 100) Ran some with Bree and some by myself...I was going around 8:30 alone.
Biked 53.825 today....not as hot, but power at the house was out and that was not fun! Ave pace ended up being around 17 MPH.....but the course was hilly!
