:cheer2: we went for mardi gras 2006. It was so fun. We stayed at the Boardwalk it was nice. This time we are staying at POR . I am worried about the buses. I don' t want to have to stand up on the bus with a baby. I made all our dinner reservations already. I am can't make our reservation for our carriage ride until nov. We are going on a carriage ride at fort wilderness. Last time we went on a carriage ride at POR thats when we decided that the next time we would go to disneyworld we would try out POR. My ds 10 :cool1: really wants to stay at AKL I might look into changing our resort if the price is not too much higher.

Oh, the buses at POR. I was 20 weeks pg when we went last time. Although someone offered me their seat everytime, I thought the buses were too crowded. As nice as the resort is, I think that was my last time going there. Since it shares with POFQ, the lines to get back are way too long for my taste. Take my opinion with a grain of salt. There are some people who think the opposite of me.

I think I am going to call disney reservations and ask about changing our resort. DS 10 really wants to go the AKL . He is a very bright child and he is always talking about zoo animals. He wants to own his own zoo when he grows up and become a vetenarian (sp?) I wonder if akl shares there buses.

Hi! We're going for Mardi Gras (February 1st-10th). We're staying at the Poly and there are 4 in our group: myself, DH, DS, and my DM.
We're looking so forward to it. Just can't wait.:cool1:

Hey Coteau! I would definitely stay at AKL. We loved it there. I think they have some of the best transportation on property. It's all buses...but they do not share. We noticed at the theme parks, AKL lines always seemed to be shorter than everyone else's too.
I'm a serious animal lover and it was heaven for me. If you stay there, be sure to check out as many hotel activities as you can. They have some really interesting "lectures" around the hotel and we loved the storytelling!
Have a great time!!!

It will be 4 of us..me, DH, DD (7), and DS (4). We will be at CBR unless we change. We have stayed there before, but I am beginning to worry about the construction at the pool. I just don't know where else to stay. I would love to do AKL, but I just can't see spending all that money. I guess I will see. Hope to see you all. princess:

How were the crowds? I have trying to find out how much or little Mardi Gras affects the crowds. Was there a long wait for rides, etc.? I realize that M.G. falls earlier next year and hopefully the crowds will be light. Thanks. I can't wait. Are you guys driving or flying? We are driving. It's a long drive, but we don't mind. We like having our own car. Thanks. :woohoo:

Hey coteau! I think you are making the right choice. We so wanted to stay at the AKL this time, but since I still have a one year old who takes daily naps, I just wanted to play it safe. However, we are doing a DVC tour this time and want to buy points at AKV, so we are spending some time on our last day there to get into the atmosphere. We're also eating at Boma that night.
BTW, I'm so excited. My ticker broke the four month mark today. WOOO HOOOO!

In 2006 when we went mardi gras did not fall around presidents day thats why the crowds were not too bad. 2008 Mardi Gras is not around presidents day either so it will be nice. When we went in 06 there were alot of people from Louisiana but the lines were not bad at all, we never waited longer than 10-15 minutes for a ride. The weather was beautiful. It was nice enough for shorts during the day and at night we just put on a light jacket or sweatshirt with our shorts. I found a website that had a list of which park was the most crowded on each day of the week and I went by that . Maybe thats why we didn't wait long in line.
We are flying from Lafayette. I got the tickets from expedia for $197. My husband doesn't want to drive. Have you gone to home depot for lime green mickey heads yet? I went to home depot in lafayette and they had every color except lime green that space was empty. Do you think I would have to ask for one?
I am so excited because I met a girl who makes smocked dresses for 25 dollars. She is making my dd ,who will be 7 months old when we go , a red and white polka dot dress smocked in black like minnie and a lime green one smocked in hot pink with little tinkerbells embroidered on the bottom.

I get that reaction from people who don't know me well or haven't gone yet. Our families know that we weill go no matter what and kind of leave u s alone about it.
Seven months is no big deal. I have a friend who brought her son at 10 weeks old. I'm sure that was a bigger challenge. I think with lighter crowds, a seven-month-old is a breeze.

I was there at Mardi Gras 2007. It was super crowded but I think that was due to its being President's Week more than Mardi Gras. They don't conicide this year so it should be a lot better. Make sure you bring beads. Everyone loves getting them although a few people said I shouldn't be giving my beads away. I don't think they realize that most of us have 5 or 6 grocery bags full of beads in our attics!

Never mind..I did a search and found out. That's pretty cool. I will have to look. Wal-Mart sells Disney colors, do they not carry it? I will look there too. I think I am obsessed with going now. My children aren't as excited as me because our last trip was in the summer and it was soooo crowded. I think once they experience Disney under different circumstances, they will be just as obsessed. DD is especially excited about our breakfast with Cinderella. It will just be she and I. A special mom and daughter day. :cloud9:

Thanks for the info. We plan on the beads. We do have many many bags. The best part is that I have a training for work in NO the week before we leave for WDW...so I will get to see a few parades and get a new supply of beads.. :yay: Anyway, Where did you go to school...and when did you graduate..do we know each other? So many move away..except for me. DH is actually from south Florida. He grew up about 25 minutes from the world. I often ask him if he was dropped on his head or something. Why on earth would he want to move here.. Maybe one day we will make it there. He has family all over Florida. It was the great oilfield that convinced him to leave it all. And we do know how to have a good time. It would be hard for me to move out of our great state. Have a great day.

Snow White's Scary Adventures is closed too! Other than that, I don't see anything else. Except for the usual stuff that's closed this time of year such as one water park, (this year is Blizzard Beach) and the stuff at Epcot. (Body Wars & Cranium Command)
I'm really bummed that 2 attractions that I didn't get to ride last time are closed this time. I am VERY HAPPY that the Indie Speedway is open again because my DS was so sad last time. That was the main ride he was looking forward to.

We are staying at All Star Sports Resort. They are currently remodeling the rooms and they should be done by the time we go.
We have never stayed at WL, but we did stay at POR one summer (in June).
If you do decide to stay there, try to request a building in the Alligator Bayou section close to the main building (like #14, 15, 16, or 18). We stayed in the Mansion section in Building 85 (Magnolia Terrace). I found the walk to the main building to be rather long, but we were facing the parking lot at about the furthest spot from the bridge to the swimming pool "island". The other thing that was bad about our location was that we were closest to the East Depot for the buses. The East Depot is the last pickup point for the buses, and POR usually shares a bus with POFQ. So, we were bus stop #5 out of 5 and would always catch a bus in the morning that was either standing room only....or it was completely full and we would need to wait for the next bus.
If you are close to the Main Building, you can catch the bus there and you would be at stop #2 out of 5 (POFQ is stop #1).
Of course...this was all during early June....which I'm sure was way busier than February will be. However, Thanksgiving will probably be busier than our June trip was.
I have never been during Thanksgiving, but I know a few people that have been and they said it was packed for the whole week (especially closer to Thanksgiving....Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat). I have a fellow worker here that is going this Thanksgiving.
If you do decide to go for Thanksgiving, I would either subscribe to TourGuideMike.com or get an Unofficial Guide for a little guidance on how to avoid the crowds. I can never understand how some people will spend at least $2,000 (and usually more) for a vacation, and then not spend $20 on a book or website subscription to learn more about their vacation destination and help to make their vacation fun.
We have never been on a cruise, but we are planning on a Disney Cruise in 2009....and I can guarantee I will be buying a book or two to do a little research before spending my $2,000+ on a cruise for my family of 3.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time. All of WDW is decorated for Christmas!!!Since Louisiana schools are off all of Thanksgiving week, we leave right after school on Friday to catch a flight. Friday through Thursday isn't very crowded at all. Wednesday through the Sunday after T-day is crazy. That's why this year,we check out on Wed. and move to Universal. If you stay at an onsite Universal hotel, you use your room key for a separate entrance to the rides and the longest wait is about 8 minutes.

Hi from PONCHATOULA. We will be at WDW Jan 31 - Feb 7. We planned this trip and booked it before we knew it was during Mardi Gras. I was kinda worried at first about all of us being off of school and making the parks crowded (call me spoiled) but it will be our first time to go during this time of the year. We are usually at WDW during the first weeks of Dec and the crowds are AWSOME. But we wanted to go this year for our DD5's birthday. She will turn 6 while we are there and that will be one special day for her (feb 3)!
The last trip we went on (dec 06) had a total of 14 people on it. WOW!! This trip will be a much smaller # of people. It will be Me (the disLUV), my DW, DD5, DS2, my FIL and my MIL. And that is it.
We are staying at POFQ and have stayed there before. Not the place of our dreams (that was dec 06 at the Contemp. with a mk view WOW) but a nice place to stay.
Anyway that is us. Hope to see yall there!

I would like to read pre trip reports of people from south Louisiana. I am from there and we are going for mardi gras 2008 (feb 4-10).
HELLO!! This is our very first trip to Disney! I've always dreamed of going to Disney--and it's going to happen (God willing) 2/3 - 2/9 2008. I have 2 boys 12 and 4--we're from the Coteau area (border of St. Martinville). 11 of our camping buddies, -and- just so happens that 4 1/2 (baby in tow) great friends and 3 other family members will be there during this week as well (give or take a day or two). We are SO excited!!
We're staying at All Star Movies resort. We've got the dining plan and Park Hopper for 7 days. Any MUST HAVE tips to share from past Disney-goers that I might not have read or would apply to a family with a 12 year old and a 4 year old--we'd prefer NOT to split up during the trip?:cheer2:

Does anyone have any cute ideas for t-shirts. I would like to design a cute t-shirt for my family to wear. Lime green of course.

Shirt suggestions: Short sleeves will allow you to layer over a long sleeve for the change in temperature from AM to PM. If chosing EITHER a design on front or on back, opt for FRONT design so that when wearing a jacket your design can be appreciated. I am working on designing shirts for our group... Coteau Crewe de Coullions (spelling?) french word prounounced COOYAWNS (means similar to knuckle head). We've had camping shirts made for this "crewe" before at a shop in St. Martinville (Rytec)--pretty inexpensive.

I just found this topic, so I thought I should hop in and say hello to all my fellow Louisiana-ians. :D
I'm from the Baton Rouge area and I'm going Jan 20-26th. Though, a LOT of people from this area go during Mardi Gras. I was working at POP in February of 2006 for a college internship and I can't begin to tell you how many LSU shirts I saw that weekend! It was like I was back home! ♥

Hey from New Orleans...
We won't be there for Mardi Gras, but we're headed to the world this Saturday for a week :thumbsup2 . It will be my DD4's first trip. We were planning a trip around April right before Katrina, but we all know what happened then :guilty: so this trip has been a long time coming.
We are traveling with our best friends and their two daughters, one is 3 (my DDBFF) and the other is 16. I've been collecting things to decorate the windows (staying at POP). I even ordered a Mickey punch to make my own LGMH. I'm currently stenciling some fleur de lis on several to represent NOLA.
I also used some designs from the disboard designers, who are awesome... to make some shirts and signs for our doors.
Maybe I can talk DH into a Mardi Gras trip in the future. In preparing for this trip, I've gone beyond obsessed with WDW and Dis.

Hey I'm not from LA but right next door--Mississippi Girl. My DN 8 princess: and I will be in Disney from Feb. 1-6. We only get three days off for Mardi Gras. This is her second trip and she is excited. I haven't told her when we are going. She thinks we are going for Spring Break. But the DA pirate: is pulling a good one on her.

How's this for a crazy Mardi Gras?
I'm riding in a parade down here Friday night. Recovering Saturday. Leaving early Sunday morning to ride in Bacchus in New Orleans. Prolly getting off the float around midnight or so, then partying with K.C. and the Sunshine band at the Bacchus Rendezvous. Then, we meet the in-laws and the children at the airport to catch a flight out of New Orleans to Disneyworld early Monday morning. I don't even want to think about the condition I'm going to be in on that flight. We're staying at the Contemporary (atrium club or something like that). I figure I'll wear my Bacchus costume Mardi Gras Day if it doesnt have too much party gravy on it. The costumes light up so you shouldn't miss me Mardi Gras night. I'll make sure to bring my leftover beads if I have any.

"Down Here" is the metropolis of Morgan City, Berwick, and the lovely community of Bayou Vista. Nothing between us and the Gulf of Mexico except 14 miles of swamp and marsh. A true Sportsman's Paradise.

I know the area well. I am only about 45 minutes from you. I have never tried Mardi Gras on your end. We usually do Lafayette. I haven't been back to New Orleans MG in a while..but I will get to see a little bit next year. Have fun..and good luck on the plane ride. Hopefully you don't party too much.. yeah right, huh!! :rotfl:

I sure wish that Disney had offered those internships when I was in school. I would have definetly tried for one. I have always loved Disney!!
