I've just got home from visiting my mum in Worcestershire we normally just pop up for a weekend but this time we decided to stay longer and take the kids out for some days. So there was me, DH, DS(16) and DD(13). Here are some places we visited without my mum:-

Alton Towers - we went on Monday, the weather was brilliant and the park fairly quiet. 20 minute or less queues for all rides except the flume. Food OK, run of the mill KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonalds.

Drayton Manor - Thurdsay. A sweet little park which was fun until lunchtime and then became so crowded the queues were over an hour long for the rides that interested my kids. The zoo part was small and I was rather uncomfortable with the size of the tiger enclosure, but the animals seemed well cared for. Plenty of snacky food available (I think there was a restaurant too but we didn't bother with this.) I wish I'd gone here when the kids were younger I think they are a bit too old for it now.

Warwick Castle - Friday. Once again I was blessed with perfect weather. I'd been before but only off-peak so it was great to see the extra shows and demonstartions - the sword fighting was particularly good. I knew there weren't too many eating places so we took a picnic. A great day out.

And things we did with mum:-

We went shopping at Merry Hill - which has changed a lot in the last few years. And we had an afternoon at Hartlebury Castle Museum - a place I went to a lot as a child.

On a more down to earth note I also went, as a guest, to my mum's WI quiz night (and helped her team to win!).

A very good week, and thanks to TESCO not too expensive.

Sounds great. I live about a 10 minute drive from Merry Hill so i use it for my everyday shopping, it has changed alot. Also love Warwick Castle, going to try and get there by the end of the summer.

That's a shame, we went into Primark too. We went to the Black Country Museum a few years ago - it was a good place to visit.
