View Full Version : Are you lurking, WISHer hiding out or just need a Support Group?

I'm pretty much a 'silent' member of WISH this time around because it seems since the beginning, I try but always fail. This time is different!! I've lost 25 pounds since June 24th and am feeling confident enough to put myself out here again! :)

Although I’ve succeeded so far, one of my motivations to get healthy and look better is no longer there and I'm afraid I will let that influence my success going forward (yesterday was the first day I’ve gone off plan and it was not a pretty sight. :( ). I do know now that I need to do this for ME and MY future!

I want the support of others who are on this journey and I'm sure there are others out there who post very little or not at all who would like to join me!

I would love to meet new WISHers, see some old friends and meet new one's from the board. :)

Let's keep each other motivated!! :)

I am a lurker, had joined a while back but was overwhelmed with the pace of the board but I need to seriously lose weight and think my time is much better spent on here on this thread. I have lost 27 pounds in the last 3 months, and only have 154 more to go  !! I need the motivation and support, because my 6 days a week exercise has gone to 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 day a week :sad2: . Went to the Y on Sunday, computer tells me I hadnt been there in a month :scared1: Luckily I havent gained any weight. But I am ready to go hard and hope to be in onederland by our next trip to the World in February. (Havent been in Onederland in 13 years:rolleyes1

Hi Kelsie!:wave2:

I know what you mean about not wanting to put yourself out there. I have been in and out of WISH so many times. Remember when it was a long thread on the CB??? It does feel good to be back and see some of my old friends like you! And it will be fun to meet new friends as well.

This time will be different for both of us. Because I have to believe that it will be better. We can do it! WAY TO GO on losing 25#!!!!:yay: That is amazing! I just started back last week Wednesday (aug. 1st) and have lost 2.5#.

What is the motivation that is gone? Can you replace it with another? Mine right now is my trip to WDW with my DD. I am so excited for a mommy and daughter trip.

Hang in there and get back on plan. You'll feel so much better. On Tuesday I was about to "fall off" just like the old days and say, well I can start tomorrow again, and I DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT! I am so tired of "tomorrow" that I said enough is enough. I worked to hard for 6 days and I didn't want to spoil it, and you know what? The stress was gone, it was always stressfull for me to plan the perfect day to start, and I know now that I will no longer have "day 1" again. I am on and working hard to reach my goal.

Thanks for starting this thread, I hope to be able to support you as much as you have helped me in the past as well. WE CAN DO THIS!

Welcome back!:grouphug: :welcome:

Hi Sabrina,

Congrats on your 27# loss as well! THat is FANTASTIC!!! I too have alot of weight to loose, I would like to loose, well about 180# total. Yikes, that is an overweight person I need to loose...:faint: Can you imagine how great our bodies will feel when all of that excess weight is gone? We will look and feel fabulous! The last time I was in onderland was back in December of 1994. so almost 13 years for me too. Sounds like we have a lot in common. Hopefully we can support each other through this journey. Work hard, and I know you can make your goal for February. My mommy and daughter trip is around the corner, but we decided to go to Disneyland next year, so I have some more motivation to keep on going and going and going!

Lets do it together!:grouphug:

Thanks, I really plan on working my butt off. I would really like to at least be able to wear shorts at the water parks with my kids. For now that is my motivation, being able to jump in the pool with the kids at POP in February. The last two years I really missed being able to play with them. Anyways yes we have a lot in common, I started off having to lose 181 :headache: to get to my healthy BMI weight.

WTG :thumbsup2 on the 2.5 pounds what a great way to start off!

Hi there, Im an on again off again poster. :(

I get into my groove over at the CB and forget to check in here.

I am down 28# though since the end of April. I am steady on track for my goal date of January 15th.

I do Sparkpeople and put in how much I want to lose and how much I think I can lose in a week and it gave me that date. So far so good.

So I have a total of 75 pounds to lose to be at my ideal weight. I would love to lose even 65 though. Ill see how I feel from there.

Hi Kelsie,

I sure miss you around here!! I'm glad your lurking, but I think you should jump in again and join us. I come and go often, but I do best when I post regularly. WISH is just the best and I am so glad that WISH is here for us. I would never be where I am today (even though I can't stay at goal, I at least stay within 25 pounds of my goal weight - it sure could be worse).

25lbs is awesome. I hope you can find a way to get that spark again!!

I started a We can Do It thread to get us through the end of the year. I'd love for you to join us. Maybe this can help motivate you. Kelsie - I know you can do this!!!

I know you were looking for lurkers and WISHers who were hiding out, but I thought I would jump in anyway because I see some oldie but goodies posting and I couldn't resist.

I am so happy to hear that so many of you have been doing your thing and finding success, I am so proud of your accomplishments as you all should be of yourselves!!! Losing weight is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my entire life, it takes persistance and a commitment to yourself and it sounds like you all have made that commitment. It all starts one step at a time!!

I hope to see you all posting not just on this thread but throughout the WISH forums. One thing I have learned is that it helps to have the support of others and what a better place to find support than right here on the DIS.

Hi Kelsie!

I was more of an active participant a couple of years ago and then I got pregnant, gained even more weight, and despite my best intentions haven't been losing like I thought I would even though my baby is now almost 2! I've been lurking/semi-posting for a couple months and since restarting my weight loss journey and as of this morning have lost 10lbs. since mid-June and are hoping to lose another 10 by our cruise at the end of September. I totally know what you mean about trying to find new motivation. Even though we've been planning the cruise for over a year I essentially waited until the last minute to start losing. I know I won't be as thin as I was hoping but at least I'll be thinner than if I had never lost a pound at all so I'm proud about that.

I too get a little overwhelmed by some of the threads but I am trying to become more of a regular poster. I have a long-term goal of losing 25 lbs. by the end of the year and (if i'm not pregnant) losing another 20 lbs. by next summer. Thanks for starting this thread and putting yourself out there to meet us lurkers! Your success is already inspiring me so thank you!

Laurie

Wow thats a lot of butter.

My motivation right now is our next trip. I dont like to exercise either, but once I am exercising I do feel better and its not really that bad. I switch my routines up 30 mins aerobics in the morning, walking on my lunch break 40 mins and the evenings 3 days a week are at the Y on the treadmill and weight machines, the other 4 evenings are spent exercising as a family, tennis, walks with the kids, sometimes I just put on my ankle weights and do some hardcore cleaning.

Thanks, I to look forward to this journey together:grouphug:

I can answer about Sparkpeople. It is a free website that allows you to forme your owm profile page. You can have a private or public blog. You enter your goal weight, when you waqnt to achieve it, etc. It will give you a calorie range. There is a page for nutrition where you track daily intake. It will also provide a meal plan. There is a page for fitness. One for other goals. There are alos teams and message boards. I started on it about 10 days ago. I find it much more userfriendly than other tracking sites. It is definately worth checking out.

Well, WI is in the morning. I've been good this week, but TOM is looming. We'll see.

:yay: Binny!!! I am so happy for you!! You will meet your goal this time...I can just tell. :)

I also am another older WISHer that has come and gone a few times. I lost 40 pounds twice with the help of WISH only to get pregnant and gain it all back plus some. This time I have lost 40 pounds (as of this morning :woohoo:) and I am NOT getting pregnant so hopefully I can keep my weight moving in the right direction. I know I do better when I am checking in here on a pretty regular basis. I am also finding that the exercise challenges help me keep accountable for my exercise.

I am also using sparkpeople this time around and I really like it. It is easy to use and since I am a big number/data person I love how it graphs everything out for me so I can see trends, etc..

Hi Becka. Nice to meet you.

Kelsie, I know that you are going to get right back OP, and kick some butt.

Weigh in went well. I was down 2.6 pounds bringing my total to 30.8 pounds. That inspired me to get to the Y. I did 3 weight circuits and 30 minutes on the elliptical. Tonight I walked the dog for 2.25 miles. :cool1: Now I just need to keep that momentum going.

Happy Monday, Kelsie. I sure hope your Monday is better than what your Saturday and preceeding days were. I have to admit I am right there with you, I have had a very emotional day and my eating is all over the place. It makes me so mad to know that I am still an emotional eater. I try to talk myself around it, but it generally doesn't work. But tomorrow is another day!

:cool1: Weigh to go Binny, Becka and Beth!:cool1:

And Binny, I know what you mean about feeling different, it is almost like you GET it, at least that is how it was for me. I couldn't believe it was so simple and it took me soooo long to just GET it, but it is wonderful when you do.

I'm a lurker, too, and I had to post and say congratulations!!!:cool1: :cool1: to those of you who've lost weight!

I've just started WW (again!) and my doctor told me to be a WW Slacker to try and resest my metabolism by losing weight sllooowwwllyyyy; and I'm not one to disappoint!

I've lost 1.8 pounds in the last two weeks, and while that is the pace he was talking about, I'm going to have to be attentive to get my new healthy lifestyle going on.

I'm going to try and participate here as much as possible to keep on track!

Good Morning everyone and welcome new posters, it's great to see you here! :)

Congratulations on all your losses!! :cool1: Way to go Binny!!

 tiggerlover, I wish I could attribute my over-eating to only emotional. I seem to find ANY excuse! ;) I hope you had a better day!

BECKA!! Hi old friend!!:grouphug:

I lost another 2 pounds as of Monday morning!! That makes a total of 27!

It looks like I'll have a little help the next couple of weeks! I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed yesterday with some complications. It seems it weakened my jaw to the point that I'm not allowed to chew ANYTHING for 2 weeks. This is unbelievably painful. :( Pain pills are helping some so that's a good thing.

I stopped at the store on the way home from the Dentist and tried to find anything that I can have without chewing. I only managed to walk out of there with soups, Jell-o and yogurt. Yesterday my menu consisted of a few teaspoons of V-8 and about 1/2 cup of soup. So, any ideas on low-calorie, non-chewable foods would be appreciated.

I may not be around much the next few days so everyone have a great week and thank you for the support!

WE CAN AND WILL DO THIS!! :)

ahhh yes the dental diet.... that has jump started me before ;)

I hope you feel better soon!!

tiggerlover
08-14-2007, 08:40 AM
Sorry to hear about your dental woes Kelsie. I hope you can get the pain under control ASAP. As for eating ideas you can make all kinds of shakes. My favorite one is made with a cup of skim milk, fresh or frozen strawberries, banana and some splenda......very good and refreshing and healthy for you. Low-cal milkshakes are good too (eaten sparingly). Good luck and congrats on your 2 pound loss.

HCrew, slow and steady really is great, even though it seems like it will take forever, the chances of keeping it off for the long run are great when you lose slower. Plus when you lose slower you are teaching your body that this is the way it is and you are more likely to keep with it. On average 1-2 pounds a week is great, for me I was more like a .5 here and a .9 there, but it came off, so hang tight for the long haul, you can do this.

As for me, today is a new day I haven't eaten yet, but I am hoping it will be a better day. I go on vacation tomorrow for 5 days so wish me luck and good choices!!!

Have a great day everyone!

binny
08-14-2007, 09:11 AM
have a great vacation Tig!

ITA slow and steady is how you win the weight loss battle. If it comes off too fast you have a higher chance of it coming back. I have been averaging 1.5-2 pounds a week. Some weeks its nothing some weeks its 4 but that has been my average. I am right on track for my jan 15th goal date.

This is a lifestyle change for me not a diet. I want to be healthy for the rest of my life not just for January KWIM?

I have to start excercising more that is my biggest downfall right now. Its been so stinking hot that I cant bear to be outside and well I could come up with several excuses for not doing it inside lol but I wont bore you with them. LOL

I did manage to get out yesterday before it got too terribly hot and do and hours worth of gardening, that was something at least!

Good Morning everyone and welcome new posters, it's great to see you here! :)

I may not be around much the next few days so everyone have a great week and thank you for the support!

WE CAN AND WILL DO THIS!! :)

WTG on the 2 lbs Kelsie!! Hope you feel better soon

Good Morning All

I have been doing ok, not as good as I should. I have been eating my 1,200 calories everday, just not the best options, way to much fruit and not enough greens, just haven't made it to the market this week yet. :rolleyes1

Exercise, I still have not gone to the Y. Saturday during DD tennis lessons I walked the park did 1.25 miles, Sunday was spent cleaning alll day, hardcore wall cleaning, moving furniture cleaning from 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. so no Y. Yesterday took DD to tennis practice and played tennis with her for about 45 minutes, man what a workout. Sparkpeople says that was 694 calories burned..(that's more than 3/4 of my recommended weekly target range!) I didn't realize you burn so many calories playing tennis.

Anyways I have to figure out a workable schedule again. DD has a tennis tournament this Saturday so we will practicing most of the week, so with my lunch walks (if its not to hot), morning aerobics, tennis in the evenings should be enough.

Anyways thank for you listening, I hope you all have a great OP week:)

I miss tennis. I love to play but I have not played once since DH and I had kids. DH is the only other one I know who plays and we have never had anyone to watch the kids and they are still too young to take along with us. I really wish I could find another mom-type around here that was a below-average tennis player (like me ;)) that I could play with. It sure was great exercise and so much fun.

Hi..I'm another lurker coming out of hiding.

I've been wanting to join WISH for a while, but I always seem to miss the next challenge and don't know where to start.

I'm doing WW, but I can't say I've been totally dedicated to it. I WANT to do this though..I NEED to lose weight, I just need to get motivated and committed. Seeing so many others here trying, helps inspire me though.

Anyway..I guess I'm out here now, so time to really get involved!

have a great vacation Tig!

This is a lifestyle change for me not a diet. I want to be healthy for the rest of my life not just for January KWIM?

Thanks Binny.....I will!

And I totally agree about the lifestyle change. Once I stopped treating this as a diet things changed for me.

I know how you feel, been there. How old are your kids?

DD is still learning to play but we still have fun, I figure even if its just serving back and forth and running after balls:rolleyes1 , its better than just sitting on my tush at home watching t.v.

Hi everyone!

Kelsie, great job on losing some more weight!:thumbsup2 sounds like you are doing fantastic!!!

Hi binny, Becka, and Tiggerlover, I am so happy to see some old faces! Congrats on all of the hard work, Binny 30# and Becka 40 WOOOHOOOO! You guys are certainly inspiring!

burberryplaid:welcome: This is a great place and I know we can all do this together! There are some WW threads that might help you out, there are a bunch of people on WISH that do WW.

Sabrina, sounds like you are making some good choices, you are staying in your range, and one you get to the market you'll have your greens too! And getting in that exercise is great.

I have been doing better. This past week went well and I lost another pound. I have a super long way to go. I was a little depressed yesterday, because as of yesterday the scale hadn't budged. I also checked into the mule rides at the grand canyon (our vacation next year) and saw that they have these weight limits. I have to Loose a MASSIVE amount just to make that weight limit, and I am not sure that I can do it. Initially I thought of postponing that trip for a year, but I decided against it with the help of DH. He just looked at me and said... you will loose it. and I guess having that vote of confidence certainly helped. It still is a lot to loose, and I am going to give it my all, if I don't make it, well, at least I should be close and that will be a victory itself! WISH me luck!:thumbsup2

Hey Sabrina,

Thanks, You are right, I won't cancel the vacation and just try my hardest to get to where I want to be. It should be a great vacation! Today I got up and did my biggest loser workout instead of my eliptical and it felt great! Something different to keep me motivated.

Hello!:goodvibes

I'm new to the WISH and just listed my weight loss history and goals on a thread started by Sasha. Do you mind if I join in? I'll be starting my first WW meeting on Monday and will be gathering info, recipes and supplies before then. I really only have time for a slow but steady approach because I also start back to school on Tuesday. I'm a stress eater who loves sugar, so I'll need some good ideas on planning ahead.

I would love any advice and words of encouragement from you all and am happy to cheer everyone on!:cheer2:

Hi Everyone! :)

Welcome all new posters!

I'm feeling a lot better today, mentally and physically! The tooth still hurts and I'm starving (a liquid diet is the pits) but it's a new day and I'm ready to take on the future. :)

Having a garage sale the next couple of days and it's supposed to be hot so maybe I can sweat off a few pounds. ;)

I'll try to think of a challenge (ummmmmmm wonder if it should include physical exercise??) we all know how I HATE that!!

Shooting for that 30 POUND CLIPPY! :)

Have a great day!

Congrats Kelsie on the 30 pound milestone.

I have to admit that I began as a lurker around here and then got excited about losing weight and quickly turned back into a lurker. I've been in a .2 pound loss rut with WW the past 3 weeks (last week was a .2 pound gain) and I really need to get it into gear. I hope to be seeing more of you and everyone else around here.

That's a great story about the pink shirt. My nemesis are a pair of capris pants that I bought from the Disney catalogue. They are very nice, tan with Bambi, ( I think) near the hem. I just can't quite wear them in public yet- I'm hoping to wear them on my next visit to WDW in January 2008-

Hi :)

Hope it's ok that I jump in here. I'm sort of a lurker, have posted a few times but not a lot. I'm trying to get more involved and have joined the BL challenge that will be starting next week. I'm hoping someone here can help me with a problem I've been dealing with. I have hit a big time plateau and have no clue how to get around it :(

I was ok with it at first but it's been close to 2 months and I just keep losing and gaining the same 3-4 pounds. I've tried so hard not to get discouraged but the more it happens, the less interested I become in losing weight. I do NOT want to let all my hard work go down the drain. I know in my heart that I don't want to go back to the way I was before, but what am I supposed to do?

I don't really have a weight loss "buddy" so no one I talk to about this understands what I'm going through. I haven't been "perfect" these past few months with eating and exercise but I haven't fallen totally off the wagon either so what gives? Is this normal? Help!

If you made it this far, thanks LOL! :) Hopefully someone can give me some ideas and pointers about this.

always lurked here...but enough excuses! My ds is going to be 7 so it is really time to get back in shape and lose this weight. I want to lose about 25# but really need to exercise more and eat better. I have no idea where to even start. It looks like sparkypeople might be a great place to start, but darn pc here at work won't let me:badpc: guess I'll have to check it out tonight!!

Congrats to ALL of you with your incredible success so far! it is awesome!:woohoo: :cheer2:
