Hey Matt, we are staying at the Grand Californian! So excited!! We are going Sept 1 - 6. Oh, and one correction, I am doing the 5k and Half, but my DH is only doing the half. He has to watch the kiddos ;) I hired a babysitter for the half.

Count me in for a "Max", the 1/2 and 5k. Anybody get their packets yet?
I didn't get mine yet. Do you know if they got mailed out this week?
Hey Mickey
08-18-2007, 09:40 AM
Yes, I'll be flying across the country again to get another casle medal! I'll be doing the half, and can't wait. however, it is going to be just me and my 2 sons again -- my hubby can't make it -- so I don't know if I'll be able to do a WISH meet up before hand. But I would def. like to give it a try since this is my first event as an official, de-lurked WISHer. :cool1:
as for the packets, I got an email this past week that they were being sent out in the next few days, so I expect it should arrive early next week. Lets hope, because I'm leaving for Caifornia the following week. Woohoo!!
So . . . looking forward to seeing the rest of the team and not being the only glaringly bright green shirt in the pack this time!:lmao:

Maybe this week for the race packets:confused3 ? I guess if we dont get them before we go, it will be a nice reminder of the weekend. At least the program is posted on the internet.
As far as a WISH meet, I do not know what my schedule looks like for the weekend except for the races. Will be there with my 3 year old DD and 5 month old DD, and who knows what schedule they will on. Maybe a meet the morning of the 1/2 pre-race near one of the "C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A" letters? That would probably be easier for me than trying to make a dinner WISH meet on the Sunday night.
Other ideas?

NAPLES RISTORANTE E PIZZERIA PROVIDES ENERGY FOR RUNNERS BEFORE DISNEY’S® LABOR DAY MARATHON
Tuesday, August 14, 2007 – Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria, located in the Downtown Disney® District, announced today their plans to offer a Family Style menu the night before the Disneyland Labor Day Half Marathon, dubbed “Carb-O-Load.” The carbohydrate-laden menu features three courses designed to provide ample fuel for the would-be runners the day before the run.
The menu features a choice of salad, either a traditional Italian Caesar or mixed greens; a choice of two pasta entrees, with selections including linguine tossed with shrimp in a spicy tomato and pancetta sauce, cappelletti pasta tossed with cherry tomatoes, garlic and fresh basil, and traditional favorites such as lasagna, three cheese ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs; dinner will conclude with an assorted selection of traditional Italian desserts.
The Marathon Menu will be served family style at 5pm on Sunday, September 2, the day before the Disney® Labor Day Half-Marathon. The three-course menu is $21.95 per person, with a two-person minimum.

About Naples Ristorante
Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria is part of celebrity chef Joachim Splichal’s Patina Restaurant Group and features the aromas and flavors of southern Italy — from Mount Vesuvius to the Amalfi coast. Thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizzas are baked in a wood-burning stove according to our classic Italian recipe, in addition to pizza alternatives, including calzones and pagnottelle. The diverse menu also includes a variety of antipasti, pasta dishes, entrees and homemade desserts. Its striking, whimsical motif includes two giant Pulcinellas, harlequinesque figures common in Italian folklore; a beautiful handmade mosaic tile floor illuminated with fiber optic lighting; and an expansive olive tree-lined patio reminiscent of an Italian garden where herbs are grown and used by the restaurant’s chefs.

Great find Robert! Sadly I wonder if our little secret carbo loading get together from last year will now be a thousand person line stretching all the way around DTD due to that publicity... If I'm not mistaken though last year we actually ordered from the little "to go" place sort of connected to the Italian restaurant proper, and thus avoided the wait, can anyone local confirm this? Would also allow me to order the $8 mac and cheese that was enough for 3 ppl I had last year instead of paying $22...
I'm thinkin like 4pm for the meet for the munchies to beat the crowds, is that too early? Checked back through last year's posts and that was when we met then... As for the day of the race, think we did the "W" tent in the warm up area where they had the stage and so forth, but most people wanted prime spots in the front of their corrals (believe there were only 5total A-E?) so there were sort of mini-meets in each individual corral. The corrals were already pretty packed as early as 90 min prior to start as I recall... Sadly we won't get our corral info until the expo so we won't know who we'll be able to track down. Of course it's easy to find those in green...
Anyone with any last minute dates/hotel info additions? So far looks like we're all over the place! :)

I will definately be in the last corral since I didn't have proof of time. Anyone else in the last corral? Well, my DH is ditching me. He is still running the half, but he isn't taking his training seriously enough and he cannot keep up with me. He is going to try to stay with me for the first 5 or 6 miles, then I am on my own. I am kind of bummed, I was looking forward to running this together.
Oh and I tried my first Gu on my 10 miler last week. It was surprisingly tasty! I tried the chocolate one and it tasted like a melted candy bar, not bad and I did not run out of energy so I guess it worked.
Hope everyone's training and plans are going well. See you all in 2 weeks!!

Jusr got the race packet in my mailbox this morning, so you guys should expect to see them any time now!
Oh, and I forgot to include my hotel info. We are staying off property -- I can;t remember which hotel right now, but it is a block or so away, on Katella, if I recall correcly. Guess I better dig out that info soon, huh?
2 weeks to go!:cool1:

I'm in too! This will only be my 2nd half and, based on the 8 miles I did this morning, it's going to be hard! Hoping the cooler temps in Anaheim will help me out!
I haven't received my packet either....thought it was here last week because I had certified mail and the postal worker said "Ah, it's from Disney" when he found my package, but it was a Dream! It was a lanyard with a couple of pins, I'm guessing because I entered by mail a few times??? Very nice surprise.

Got the packet, got the packet:banana:
Bib #1580. Probably corral 'A' based on last year's number (last year higher bib# but still 'A'). Was going after a 2 hr finish, but now will be likely closer to 2:15. Not a lot of training for a bit due to foot problems. BTW, we are staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn (at the light).
Again, I doubt I can make a meet Sunday night, but I should be able to meet at the 'W' tent prior to the race or in the corrals.

I haven't received my packet yet. Since I finished under 2 hrs last year I should be in coral A. I haven't done a lot of training this time around, so we'll see if I can still finish under 2 hrs this time around.
Good Luck to everyone!!!
received my race packet on monday, so i suspect everyone should get theirs soon. (i'm up in northern california)
i'm in for the half and staying at the sheraton park. this will be my third half-marathon (i still can't believe it!) after starting to run a year ago this month -- thanks to the support of folks here, i finished the WDW half in january, and then ran the ING ottawa in may.
however, i haven't trained as much this time so i think this is going to be a bit harder ;-/

I haven't received my packet yet. I changed my address the end of July so I hope that didn't mess anything up....The email I just received with the final instructions said to just go to runner's relations at the expo if it doesn't come.
I just got back from my final LR of 12 miles! I averaged 12 min/miles so that should put me around 2:40 for the half. I will be so excited if I can do that!
I am gonna try to run 4 times next week probably 3 - 4 miles and one 6 miler. What is everyone else planning to do? This is my first half, so I am new to all this.

I'm just about packed, headed to the airport tonight. It'll be a week of fun in the sun in cali with DW and the 'rents as well as a couple warm up runs of 2-4 miles during the week for me after a last LR of 10 on Sun. Will still be posting from over there so keep spammin those updates!
Hey Mickey
08-24-2007, 02:37 PM
wow, I can't believe its almost here already! I am definitely going to try to get in a 10-mile walk/run this weekend. Too bad the beautiful fall weather has left and we are back to hazy, hot and humid August here in New York. Anyone checked out the forecast for Anaheim Labor Day weekend?
For the record, I will be the bright green shirt a few yards in front of the sweeper van of shame. Haven't been able/motivated to get much training in since my father's death in June -- hoping this will kickstart me again so I can ramp it up for the WDW races (I better get serious or it will be seriously ugly). So all of you who get to the finish line in under 2 hours -- save some bananas, bagels, and gatorade for me!

Hey Becky,
Don't worry about it. I'm sure checking in should be fine. BTW, we'll probably be in the same corral! I hope to finish right around 2:30. I realize this is a no-no but I'll do one more LR this weekend just to be sure of my pace.
See everyone next weekend!

Less than a week to go! Just got back from my last LR, a 10.3 miler from my parents house down to Torrance Beach, then up along Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Dockweiler Beach, and to Marina del Rey before I caught a ride home. :) Actually felt pretty solid throughout, tested my race outfit and also took gels at about 4.5 and 8.5 or so. Wasn't pushing it, but finished in what would have been about 2:09 HM pace. Pretty confident I'll beat last year's 2:06 with thousands of people running with me, but continuing to hope for under 2:00.
Was a gorgeous sunset out over the water as I ran along the bike path... Now it's just theme parking all week with DW, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World (military get in free) and then wrapping it up with DL and CA!
Anyone excited yet? :dance3:
Hey Matt,
Are you from out here? I haven't followed too much of your posts so I don't know too much about you...sorry.
I did a no-no last weekend by doing an 11 mile run. I realize I should have been tapering off but I couldn't resist. All-in-all I felt good. I was tired but nothing out of the ordinary.
BTW, am I excited?party: party: party: Oh, yeah!!!
See you then!

Ok, I totally chickened out! (Not on the half!!) I don't think I can leave my babies with a total stranger babysitter. So now my DH is NOT going to run the DL half and he will stay behind with the kiddos instead.
Soooo, if there is anyone out there who would like to run the DL half with a bib that will say "Mike" on it - I would be happy to give it to you. (Is this allowed???) I have already paid the fee and I would hate to waste it completely, so if this is possible and you know someone who wants to run, let me know!!

Got in last night, spent today in the park....not too crowded yet, but man was it hot. and humid, too, for So. Cal. Luckily, they seem to think the heat wave will break over the weekend -- high for Monday was predicted at 88 (versus the high of 98 today).
Very exciting driving down the street seeing all the street closing signs for Monday's race. Only a few more days!

Tue was Universal Studios and half price tix to see Wicked, Wed was Knotts Berry Farm and a drive down to San Diego, Thur was Sea World and a drive back up, and finally today a rest day! The plan is DL tomorrow (Sat) as well as a stop by the expo to pick up our stuff and maybe grab one of those LE pins... Sunday will be a laze about day probably just stuffing ourselves on concierge food at the PP before heading over to DTD around 4pm to see who else is wearing flaming green... Then Monday morning is of course the race and then another day at Disney since we have to stay up late to catch our 1am flight out.
Today was possibly my last pre-race run, did a 3 miler of my old high school cross country course with lots of sandy hills, and still managed to avg about 9:20 per mile. Really have no idea how I'm going to feel come race morning, my 10 mile LR was more like 9:40 avg, so 9:10 avg seems somewhat unreasonable, but you never know!
Everyone flaunt your GREEN I know we will!

ok, i'm getting nervous about the weather now. i'm flying down from the Bay Area tomorrow morning, anyone already there happen to notice what it was like from 6-9am this morning? at least up here, it really cools off at night and takes several hours to warm up in the morning.
regardless, i'm sure we'll be OK. might just need to go a bit slower and drink a little more. :)
not sure what my plans are for tomorrow, i'm leaving my family at home this go around. i arrive around 1pm, figure i'd hit the expo and pick up my race packet and then decide if it's worth hitting the parks or not. are there any plans for an "official" WISH meetup?

I'm thinking I am going to be taking it reeeal easy Monday. My sons and I did the early morning thing at DL today -- got there at 7:15 and yes, it was already feeling hot and humid. I didn't check the actual temp, but the last couple of days its been in the mid-to-upper 70s by 7 a.m., according to the morning news shows.
Lots of hydration, lots of sunscreen, lots of loose WISH shirts and we should all be fine, right?

I thought the 5k (and the kids races) today were awfully unorganized. We were all put in one big shute. At the go red 5k in may they allowed us to seed ourselves as walkers and runners. I spent the first 2 miles of the 5k bobbing and weaving through the narrow pathways of the parks. Also, disney's 5k was 3.28 miles according to my garmin. I am really nervous about the heat tomorrow!!

I received an email from WDW Sports congratulating all participants of the DL Half Marathon. It also mentioned that the 2008 DL Half will be Aug. 29th-31st (Labor Day Weekend). I'm assuming the race will be on Sunday, but you never know. Last year, it was set for Sunday and I made my hotel reservation at DLH (with DVC) for a 1 night stay, Saturday night. Next thing I know, they changed the race to Monday and I was keeping my fingers crossed that I could change my hotel reservation and still use my points (that goodness it wasn't a problem).
