I have to say that I am greatly disappointed by these message boards. The fact that PM's were sent to EVERYONE (including some to their work) is distasteful. If you are trolling for votes, then that is wrong.

I am not a listener of your show, and I do not appreciate getting a private message encouraging me to vote for you. I feel you have crossed a line, and I seriously hope that you do not win the award. There are other more deserving shows out there.

you are way to uptight!!!

BTW if you want to know what it looks like to get a PM asking for votes here's one I got at work from Lou Mongello. Hi cocowum,

This is just a friendly reminder that there are just a few days left, and voting for the 2007 Podcast Awards will conclude this Sunday, August 11 at 11:59 p.m.

As you may know, my show, the WDW Radio Show (http://www.wdwradio.com) has been nominated for the Best Travel Podcast at http://www.PodcastAwards.com.

I sincerely appreciate all of your support, and if you like the show, you can vote once every 24 hours until the voting period is over.

All you need to do is head on over to http://www.PodcastAwards.com, look for the Travel category (bottom right) and vote for WDW Radio.

Important: You will receive an email that needs to be verified, so please be sure to validate your votes. Remember you can vote every day, but only once per day.

You can also support other friends of the show while you’re there, including Inside the Magic in the Best Produced, Your Neighborhood Stage in the Arts/Culture category and the comedy4cast in comedy.

Thank you again for any help you can provide! As always, I sincerely appreciate all of your support!

Lou Mongello (AKQJ10)

I love Lou's podcast, but the Dis Unplugged gets my daily vote.

Even though I didn't vote for Lou I didn't get my panties in a bunch about it! Come on!!!:sad2:

So I assume you gave your work email address when you signed up for the DIS account? Or maybe you have the DIS on while at work? I never give out my work email unless it is for business. Maybe that would help you in the future.

I have to add this thought as well. With all the bizarre, inappropriate spam that comes to my email at work, I think a PM about the DIS would be the least of my concerns.

I really don't think this was a vote for us kind of message, more of an informative message notifying everyone of the podcast. In fact on several episodes the crew has said they are not soliciting votes, just letting everyone know to vote if they enjoy the show.

Personally I can not wait for each weeks episode, its great to listen to on the ride to work. I am pleased to vote each day, not out of obligation but recognition for a great show.

I didn't get PM! I feel left out!

Seriously, WAYYY overblown. If you chose to give your work e-mail address, and chose to receive notifications of PMs at that address, well, that's your problem. The person sending the PM isn't responsible.

However, it seems kind of foolish to broadcast thousands of PMs instead of posting a simple message on the boards that everyone can read. It certainly takes more resources, and the disboards can be slow as it is...

I DID get the message from Lou. I sent him some information ONCE regarding something on his podcast (providing some extra info that wasn't given). I never received a response, it was never mentioned in the podcast - but he sent me that message weeks later.

I didn't get all huffed about it.

?? You have no problem with all of the advertisements on the boards from trusted business partners but have a problem with a PM? The way I see it, we're on the DIS's "space" and are, therefore, likely to get "solicitations" for things like this. It's certainly their perogative.

I certainly don't care! I was uber-disappointed that the PM was about the voting (which I'm doing everyday anyway) and not a notification that they were going to read my e-mail on the next show! I've gotta think of a better question!

LOL I noticed the same thing, not to mention she is using her signature on this forum to try to blatantly advertise it. I also noticed that she has forums on her site that have 8 members and the record for most members being online at the same time is 4.

Cocowum I agree with you, I also got the the blatant message from Lou Mongello about voting for him, and that did not offend me at all. People like Pete and his crew and Lou Mongello, provide us with forums and communities where we can can gather and discuss and learn and enjoy our appreciation for Disney...and they do it ALL FOR FREE TO US. If everyonce in a while they want to send me a pm asking for my support for something they can go right ahead.

OH please and I am just guessing that you do not recieve other emails telling you that you might have won a million dollars. I personally did not recieve an email, but if I did I would be honored that they remembered me. If you don't want to vote then delete the email and move on, if you do great! Me personally I used to hate getting notices in my email about new messages on a thread . Nope usually just some subscribing and giving a pointless complaint, but I just fixed it so I didn't get anymore notifications in my email, problem solved! Have a disney day!

Simple solution...

If you go under UserCP-Edit Options-Messaging & Notification there is a box that says "Recieve E-mail from Administrators" If you uncheck the box you're off the hook in the future...

In my opinion, OP is just trying to stir up trouble, as it seems others have been trying to do here in the podcast section recently. If you really had an issue with it, wouldn't you go straight to admin? Just wondering...

Maybe I should make an appointment to get my hair done. I don't get how the whole work panic thing is an issue? Is it just me? Did Pete somehow ferret out her private work address and then send her some porn? I got a notification of a PM to the email that I chose to put into my info here. Mine didn't beg for votes though. I feel as though I've been slighted. No inappropriate for work porn, no begging for votes. I must be on the D list or something.

So keep drinking the kool aid, when I told my wife that I felt like “Trolling” for votes was in poor taste and she checked her email and got the PM, she than felt like posting a message that she felt it was in bad taste. I knew that was a bad idea. The childish, kool aid drinking attitude of this group is why it was a bad idea. We have a podcast we love doing and we love Disney and I enjoy the Dis podcast my wife listens to WDW today and enjoys that, the podcasting community is a small one and very supportive of each other. While she did say that you should vote for someone else, which was wrong, checking all the podcast that received the nominations and then choosing whom you want to vote for is always a good idea. I think Pete puts out a good podcast and it has a great chance of winning.

I think Disney, which we will be visiting in 30 days, is all about politeness and tolerance of others and a whole lot of fun.

I think sending out the PM was in bad taste, if you disagree than you do. Vote for whom ever you choose. It’s Pete’s website and a dam good one and he puts out a solid podcast. It still doesn’t change my mind about the PM.

It’s a message board folk’s not real life.

I listen to all the other nominated podcasts and find that they are all promoting their inclusion in the podcast awards and polling for votes. If you listen to the many other Disney podcasts you will find them also inviting votes for their friends; although I've yet to hear the DISUnplugged mentioned :sad1:

I've had emails/PMs from the other boards.

This is perfectly normal behaviour for all the podcasts and the Disney community :goodvibes

BTW if you don't want emails to your work address then don't use it as your email contact.

Your wife came to the DIS podcast and wrote, "There are other more deserving shows out there." Did she expect that this would not get a reaction here? Because we didn't like what she wrote and disagreed, we are Kool-aid drinkers. That makes sense. I'm sure that comment displays the "politeness and tolerance" that you referenced in your post.

I can't believe people are getting so worked up over an email!!!
It is an email people-just delete it if you dont like it!
I went right over and voted-thanks for the reminder Pete!
I love the show and I see nothing wrong in advertising by email that it is out there FOR FREE for anyone who wants to listen. Again, nowhere in that email did it ask for votes.
In my mind it was an advertisement. All they said was that they were nominated. Does it offend you when your favorite tv show gets nominated for something and they mention it in their commercials for the show? Some people need to find something better to do than complain.
Keep up the great work guys! You make my Tuesdays much easier!

There had to be two different PMs. Where was the begging for votes? Why didn't my PM have it??? I saw the one I got as way to tell people that there is a podcast and it's good one and they might want to give it a listen. It also told you how to listen to it if you didn't know how. No where did it say 'vote for us!'. They are (rightly) proud of having been nominated and mentioned it. That's it.

Then of course there is the fact that this is Pete's web site and his podcast and if you don't like getting a PM from the owner of the site about a fairly new feature of it then maybe you should opt out of getting PMs.

This girl with the "stick up her butt" is done. I still think what was done was wrong, and you can agree or disagree if you like. But personal attacks on me are MEAN, RUDE and COMPLETELY UNCALLED FOR.

I am a podcaster, but I did not go trolling for people to nominate our podcast. We did not spam our listeners to get them to nominate us. We mentioned it on our pocast and on the site. And no its not "sour grapes" that we did not get nominated, we have only been doing it since October.

I am sorry that people here feel that I need to "get a life". I have one, and it involves WAY more than hanging out here. I responded to an email that I received that I felt was in poor taste. Some may agree, others not.

I did not receive the email at work, but someone else had posted that they had (I don't even have email at work). But you all just jumped all over me. Hope you all feel better. I expressed an opinion. Like it or not, thats what message boards are about.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if your wife seriously has an issue with this..why bring it to this forum? You know how protective we are of the podcast. Why not just go straight to the top? When you post something that others are going to take issue with in this forum, you'd better make sure you can take the backlash..that's all I'm saying...

Just as you take issue with the fact that a PM was sent, I think this thread is in bad taste. In my opionion, it's not an issue for the podcast listeners to be concerned with, (although now you've certainly made it our issue too, because we do care about the podcast) it's an issue you have with the people running this site.

I don't consider this mean..just saying how it is..whether you agree or not..

Email you do not want is SPAM SPAM SPAM

To be fair when you register for the boards you edit whether you want to receive the emails, you control it not the boards. So its not spam.

Secondly, have you and your wife also posted on the other podcast boards who have been soliciting votes for the awards? I am registered for a few other nominated boards/podcasts and have received an email from almost all of them.

Lastly, the fact that in the OP she seems to be complaining more about the Dis "not deserving it" than anything else, which hurts the credibility of your argument.

That right there hurts your whole argument. You don't listen to it, then claim there are "other more deserving shows" based on zero knowledge.

I see you've changed your signature as well...the podcast link is gone. It really seems that your intent was to drive traffic to your own podcast and forums, but I'm betting its had the opposite effect.

Exactly!! Its not spam. You signed up for the boards. You have the option to receive an email when you have a PM. If you don't like it change it. If you don't like getting PM's change that too.

Got anymore arguements we can shoot full of holes??

Geez, I'd hate to jump on the bandwagon, but what in the world are you talking about VernRDH????:confused3

It was an informational email sent to those who have taken the time to register on the DIS. An easy assumption with those that register here is that they would like to learn more about all things Disney, which the Podcast offers. I would venture to guess that Webmaster Pete is taking the time to ensure that registered users are aware of what the Dis/wdwinfo offers...that is kinda part of his job, isn't it? I did not read into the PM as trolling for votes.....not one vote was asked for in the PM! I really don't see how it could be read into as being vote trolling or "crossing a line" by any stretch of the imagination. Simple solution....delete it and ignore it if you don't want it.

I think the horse is officially beaten....but your post just doesn't make sense:confused:

I will say that I got the PM too and was not offended, but a little annoyed. I just don't get very many PM's so seeing one from the DIS team made me immediately think - OMG what did I say and am I getting points? Then I read the message and felt better.

I already listen to the podcast so I just glanced at it. I didn't care personally for the PM, but why get offended and angry about it. Like anything else on this board - if you don't like it - don't read it. Just delete and continue on with your life! These boards to belong to Pete so he has the right to send us PM about anything anytime he wants.

BTW - great podcast guys! The cheeter comments had me rolling on my drive into work today - especially the resort mugs comments.

Wow...I guess I'm a mean one too...

I never interpreted the PM as trolling for votes. i read it as a hey...just to let you know...this podcast is available and to check it out! I was already a listener so I read it and was done with it.

And just an FYI...if i'm not mistaken, it was not the podcast team who nominated themselves for these awards...the Pod Squad did it! If you'd listen to the podcasts, you would know that. :)

So keep drinking the kool aid, when I told my wife that I felt like “Trolling” for votes was in poor taste and she checked her email and got the PM, she than felt like posting a message that she felt it was in bad taste. I knew that was a bad idea.

You both asked for and invited this discussion. If you really had a problem, you could have PM'd or privately emailed the moderators or webmaster(s) quietly voicing your complaints and concerns. Instead you chose to publicly voice your opinion. This is what happens when YOU open the door. You already know how to close it yourself. Walk away, stop reading the thread and let it go. You are already exercising your choice not to listen to the podcast, why would you be interested in talking to those who enjoy it? Would you go to a baseball game or a football game only to tell the fans there what is wrong with the game, their favourite team or the players if you had never seen it before? Not likely.

I just clicked on this because the topic was on the main page of the forums.. and I will admit I thought the PM was pretty tacky. I like that these forums don't send spam and that's exactly what this PM was in my opinion. DIS shouldn't allow anybody but the main admins to send emails to EVERYONE... it IS spammy.... I was put off by it too.

I chose to NOT receive promotional emails. But I got this in my PM box. Unsolicited. I signed up for dis to learn more about disney.. to plan a vacation.. and to share tips on the budget board.. not to learn more about a podcast.

Unless I am mistaken, the podcast is about Disney stuff. I enjoyed the most recent one and plan on listening to more. If the owners of this site want to send PMs announcing their nomination for an award, that's their right IMO. I don't consider that spam.

I respectfully ask the moderators to remove this thread.

Thank you.

I got the PM and didn't have a problem with it. I don't personally consider it spam. I think the DIS Unplugged podcast is great and they should be proud of their work each week. I also don't think anyone is being mean here. We are an opinionated bunch of folks that love Disney and WDWinfo and all of its parts or we wouldn't come here for hours every day

However, I think this thread is serving no purpose now and agree with the OP that it should be locked or deleted before people do get their feelings hurt. I know that is not what was intended here. :goodvibes

As always, this is all IMHO.

I guess what I meant was Main Admins.. and I should've stated.. emails saying things like "dis will be shut down for a week for maintenance" or "there is a spammer on the boards who are asking for cc info".. that type of thing.

Unless i sign up for emails about something, I don't really want them.... I have no interest in podcast, to be honest. I got an email from a user named "The Dis Unplugged team".. I have no idea who that is or if they're admin or anything. They show 0 posts. It sounded like a spam to me. Very advertisey "If you don't know who we are, tune in here ____"

I think Quinn222 was right, that IS the main admins. I believe Pete, who is the owner of the boards, and his team, who are the people that do the podcast, ARE the main admins as well.

That is what this podcast does. Perhaps, if you haven't already, you could give it a listen to see if it helps you in your quest to "learn more about disney...to plan a vacation.." Again, I think the webmasters (the ones who sent the PMs) are doing their jobs in ensuring those who signed up on the Dis are getting the best info out there and are making everyone aware of the different ways to obtain it through the site.

I expressed an opinion. Like it or not, thats what message boards are about.

That is very true...however, it appears many people have an opinion they are expressing which is different from yours. I think you may have gotten more than you bargained for voicing your opinion via a discussion board vs. just contacting the administrators. Also, it was a bit uncalled for to include your comments about hoping the DIS Unplugged does not win in the category they were nominated for. I am sure your loyal podcast listeners would have reacted the same way under similar circumstances.

This is crazy!!!!
1. A PM on a private web site you signed up to is not SPAM. At work I block about 1800 mail messages a day-I can show you SPAM.
2. The DISers did not take the mail you registered with and send you an EMAIL-that could have been SPAM.
3. BTW you can not be sent a 'PM' at work unless you signed into the DIS Boards at work. If it is OK for you to do this-you can not complain about getting the PM pop-up---you came here!
4. If you got an EMAIL saying you had a PM-you set up your account that way-you used your work EMAIL. You said is was OK to receive mail.

For podcasters, this is a big award-I have no problem with the DISers asking their listeners to vote for the DIS Unplugged. They can say whatever they want-it is their podcast/web site.

This is their site.
And I think it's a pretty awesome site on the whole.

One email to show people another feature that perhaps some didn't realize existed could be considered good customer service.

If that's the worst of it, I think it's a pretty awesome site!

Wow...just wow.

I have enjoyed the DIS for many years - and I am glad that Pete had the vision to create such a great site for us Disney lovers!

This is a free site - and for anyone to get upset when the owner of the site sends and informational PM/email that they think the members of their board will find helpful - is a little over the top.

I for one am glad at how Pete and his team has improved the boards and site over the years. We all need to remember that we are guests on Pete's boards. :)

Pete- I don't know how you do it. You put in all this effort - and people complain about how you decide to run your site. I'm so glad I do not have your job! :guilty:

Well said Blue Skies.

This is a public forum, but there is a business side to this site. I understand that completely.

If you don't like a certain aspect of any business you typically don't participate or spend your time and money there. If anyone feels put off, or upset by the PM that much then the best way to deal with it is not to participate in these forums.

You should got to User CP/Edit Options, and uncheck the box that says "Enable Private Messaging". Otherwise you can receive private message from at least the Admins, and the Admins are the people who do the podcast, so if you don't want the message from them that is your only choice.

Here is my view. What took them so long to PM everyone. I the disboards have 120000+ members. If you want to win you need the votes.

I will also be shocked if Dis-Unplugged does not win. People are very loyal to the boards.

Podcast Awards = Popularity contest.

I listen to about 15 different Disney podcasts. I like them all. Dis-Unplugged currently ranks about 7 on my list.

One change they could have made in the PM is to encourage people to vote for 'Inside the Magic' as best produced. It would have been cool to support another Disney podcast.

This is my thought exactly. If you aren't interested, just delete it! It's not like they do this sort of thing all the time! I think the DIS podcast is something not a lot of people on the boards are aware of, and this was another way to get the word out to people who might not otherwise understand what it is or where they can get it.

I just have to put in a little back up for Lou Mongello and WDW Radio. Lou never even mentioned the podcast awards during the nomination process. He even mentioned on his board that he didn't want to be showy and beg to be nominated, but his fans nominated him anyway because he has an excellent show. Now that he is nominated, you can't really blame him for asking for votes. He was sort of darned if he did and darned if he didn't. I don't think Lou Mongello has a blatant or haughty bone in his body. He is very appreciative to be nominated and notes that he finds himself among a very impressive group of shows. He is a genuinely wonderful person.

Oh Lou... :rotfl:

I like both podcasts and it's really a privilege for me to be able to listen to them both.

Edited to Add: I find it amusing how Pete was just talking about how he has very few problems with the Teen Board and the kids there, but it's the adults that act more like children and can't get along.

Sam, I did not mean the post as an attack at Lou in any way, and as you can see from my posts I am a big fan of his. What I was referring to in that post was whether the PM that people received was even a beg for votes. I was just pointing out that other podcasts had sent a more direct email/private message asking for votes than the one that the Dis had sent out, and I think that those nominated have the absolute right to ask for support from their boards.

Oh I know you didn't write that as an attack. I probably shouldn't have quoted you, but I wanted people to know what I was referring to. I totally didn't think you were attacking anyone at all. Didn't mean for it to come off that way, my apologies!!

Here's an interesting fact. Last year, there was only one Disney podcast nominated in the travel section of the podcast awards and this year there are three, not to mention Inside the Magic, which is nominated for Best Produced. ITM is also a really fun podcast with great binaural audio of ride throughs and park walk-throughs. So, getting back to my point, it seems that Disney podcasting is growing as a community and really I wish I could vote for all of them.

I have no problem with a PM. I read it or don't.

I have no problem with advertising within this community by PM.
They were advertising the podcast to members of the community.

As far as asking for votes, I have no problem with that. What do you think the awards are about? It is all about advertising... making people aware of the podcasts and being able to get more money from their advertisers. These podcasts cost money to produce and distribute.

Do you think these podcasts are free gifts from the heavens?

I found this podcast through these boards and it was the first podcast I ever listened too. I have since listened to others, but really I don't think any compare. They are too slick and overproduced. I love this podcast... it is like sitting one table over from these guys in a restaurant. They so love each other and have a genuine good time together.

So check it out, vote if you want, or delete it and stop fussing.

I thought it was kinda cool actually.:goodvibes If the DIS wasn't nominated, he'd totally get my vote! I didn't think he was haughty or showy or rude. and I'd fully expect to get emails, pm's etc asking for votes! I definitely don't blame him for asking for votes. Here is a copy of the PM for those that didn't receive it -- nowhere does it actually ask for a vote...it merely says they were nominated and gives information on when to listen and what the content is. I don't find it offensive in any way.

How about this, will this make it clear- The people on this part of The Dis Board are MEAN.
Period end of the story.

It is nice to see that someone agree with me that you are all mean.
(See how easy it is to pull something out of contex)

Email you do not want is SPAM SPAM SPAM

and asking the thousands of people on this board to "check out our podcast" is not wrong but they had already done that. this was "trolling for votes"

Now you can go back to "sunshine and lollypops and rainbows" the mean, mean man who disagreed with you has to go to work.

sunshine and lollypops and rainbows, sunshine and lollypops and rainbows sunshine and lollypops and rainbows

:scared1: This is almost like a thread about re-using your refillable mug!

Love the podcast, hoped the PM went to all my friends who do not yet listen, do not consider myself mean, and think it is quite silly to get so worked up over this issue. And what is so bad about sunshine, lollypops, and rainbows?

I'm looking forward to what Pete has to say about all of this. He's probably thinking what does he have to do! First the immigrant "hate speech" and now this. It just further proves the saying, "You can't please everybody".

I guarantee that the purpose of the PM was to inform the thousands and thousands of disboards members of the podcast in case they have somehow not stumbled upon it yet. Heck, I was a member of the boards for many months before I even discovered the podcast, so this would have helped me back then.

The fact that they say they were nominated for best travel podcast is just to let you know that, 'hey, people who listen to this podcast think we are pretty darn good, so maybe you should check it out".

If they gain just one listener because of the PM, then they have succeeded.

Here's what I did: I opened it, I read it, I deleted it, I forgot about it. It's basically a commercial people!

I didn't know how much it would affect at least one person. It amazes me how sensitive some people can be. Wow.

I just want to make one thing clear... I was the one that posted that I recieved an e-mail at work. I posted that because I was confused!!! I COMPLETELY forgot that I had registered a second Username 2 years ago. COMPLETELY FORGOT!! So I thought somehow The Dis got my work e-mail because maybe our security settings are not correct. I've been getting TONS of spam... so obviously that wasn't the case. I don't care that I got an e-mail about podcast awards. That wasn't what was driving me totally crazy. I just thought that somehow my work computer was being hacked!!:rolleyes1 Obviously that wasn't the case because I'm a dope who forgot I had to usernames. Webmaster Kathy actually had to research this and tell me that I had 2 usernames!
(Thanks Kathy!!)
