Hi All ~ OK! I'm ready to give up my POOH sized body. I never had an issue with bring LARGE! However, I'm done now. I used to be 210lbs, then went to 120lbs. Now I'm 230lbs. I'm ready to see 150lbs on the scale again!
I'm heading upstair to watch Corrie while on my treadmill!
Who's with me? Blessings, Sandra

Hey Sandra - I'm totally with you....I need some encouragement to get my body down a couple of sizes. I am 5'2", and last year I weighed 160 lbs, worked out like crazy and ate really well and got down to 130 lbs. Then, I had to have surgery and wasn't able to lift anything above 5 lbs for 8 weeks, and no cardio workout for at least 6 weeks. Well, now I'm lazy and eating terribly, and have gained back 10 lbs. I am completely devastated and so disappointed in myself and feel like all the hard work I put into my body has been flown out the door.
I have a 10km race in September that I registered for in February....I haven't run for 3 months, and I don't know if I will be able to do it. I have been dreaming about doing this race for 3 years as it's supposed to be absolutely gorgeous (in Banff), but also a very challenging race. I feel sick to my stomach that I may not be able to finish it, especially since when I registered for it, I was running 16km no problem....I don't think I could run 5 km right now if I tried.
I get into this depression every now and then about my body and I know that if I just started working out again, I would feel better about myself and I would be happier, and then the eating would follow, but I just can't bring myself to do it....I do need a motivational group...my BF is not very encouraging as he is very lazy (blames his job).
Thanks Sandra for starting this, and I will be happy to join this challenge and hopefully get the motivation I need to get going again....
Cheers - Joline

You'll do it Joline! We will encourage each other!
I lost a ton of weight 9 years ago....about 80 lbs. I quit smoking 10 years ago too. I lost the weight by calorie counting, eating really well, exercise and drinking LOTS of water. I was in such great shape that I started teaching fitness classes and yoga. I even did two Triathalons. Teaching yoga and art classes took over and soon I wasn't doing a lot of cardio. Stress, anxiety, the death of my father and more stress added to eating poorly. I went on Paxil about 3 years ago. That, the stress, little cardio and eating poorly equals me gaining 100 lbs in about one year.
2004 was the year of change for me. Once I got back on track with the Paxil [I love it] the weigh gain didn't bug me. It still doesn't bug me in the vainity sense, but I am 42 years old, my dad died of a massive heart attack at age 61, so I need to get my body out of the OBESE state it's currently in so I live longer than my dad.
I'm so motivated right now! I did 30 minutes on my treadmill and I'm drinking water again. Tomorrow we head to the trailer, so I'll swim, hike and eat lots of good stuff.....okay, not LOTS.
I made alittle deal with myself. If I can get under 200 lbs by Cmas, I'll book airfare to Florida for March break 2008.
I might even call my fitness club boss and ask to design a fitness class for LARGE GALS! I taught aerobics until about 6 months ago. Even at 230 lbs, I was teaching aerobics. Itwas hard but I did it.
Joline, we'll do this together. I'm sure lots of CDN DISer's will join us! Blessings, Sandra

Hi Sandra and Joline. I am with you. I have been trying to lose weight for the past few weeks. I am down about 5-7 lbs so far. I have been drinking lots of water and trying to watch what I eat. I am stil trying to get motivated with going back to the gym. I had knee surgery in May and I am still in therapy for it. The knee thing makes working out tough. After a long day at work (standing) I find it hard to find the energy to work out, Hopefully we can support and motivate each other. I would love to lose as much weight as possible before our family trip to WDW for Christmas. Then maybe I won't be embarassed to be in the family Pictures with Mickey:santa: sending you both encouragment and :grouphug:

We went to Cedar Point a couple of weeks ago. On Millenium Force roller coaster, the attendant had to help belt me in and help unbucket me. I think that helped motivate me. S

Well, I'm sitting here eating my Reese Peanut Butter Cups(it's 11pm!) and knowing that I should be joining you gals...but I'm not sure what I'm waiting for.
I think I've just gotten into being lazy. I love to exercise and I really do enjoy eating healthy food, but something is holding me back from doing what I know is the right thing to do.
I think they say to make small changes at first, right...things you can live with easily and go from there. Maybe right now I could cut out the PB Cups at 11pm...well maybe I don't really need them at all.
How can I get a little chocolate fix???? Any ideas??
Thanks for starting this thread, I'll be sure to let you know how my battle with the PB Cups goes!

Hi all! Well, it's not a chocolate substitute; but Viactiv calcium supplements are quite good. They aren't many calories, and they help to give the calcium that we women need. I've been watching for many months now, and they really do help to satisfy my sweet tooth....again, NOT anything like real chocolate, but not bad! You're right about starting small...I cut out everything between meals first...then the bread. I haven't been as good during the last several weeks, and I've gained a few pounds back. Next week, we'll be in Disney...and I'll be eating (DP...appetizers too); so that certainly won't help. Hopefully I can get totally back on track in September; seems like a good time to start anew. I also drink tons of water; that really does help. I work out with my friend 3 or 4 times per week, and I try to walk almost every day. It took me a LONG time to get started (this time around; I've yo-yoed like you, Sandra). There just comes a time when you are READY; you'll just feel it (like you gals are now). Hope we can keep in touch to help with the motivation!!

Ok - there looks like there is a few of us willing to join the challenge.
So, to begin, we should all have a goal...using the SMART acronym (I knew one day this would come in handy - thanks University!!), this is what my goal is: (in case you don't know what SMART stands for, it is "Specific, measureable, acheivable, realistic, and time-bound")
Specifically = I want to lost 25 pounds by Christmas
Measurable = I will measure my success by logging keeping a food diary, keeping a distance log/workout journal, and scale/measurement log of my weight on a weekly basis
Acheivable = Since Christmas is 20 weeks away, this goal is achievable by losing 1.25 pound per week, while maintaining a healthy weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week
Realistic = Presently, my BMI is over the specified amount for my age group, therefore, if I look at the BMI for my height and target (goal) weight, I will be sitting at the normal range within the BMI. (If you don't know what the BMI is, go to this website: http://www.consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm
Time-bound = If I took 30 minutes a day, which I know I have (spend less time here (YIKES) and less time in procrastinating), I know I have the time to do this.
That is my goal....I will also be following the GI Diet book (very similar to the South Beach diet - worked great last time - had no cravings and very manageable). I hope that we will be able to maintain an upbeat and motivating community here. Do we want to keep an online daily journal of our successes, failures, and how our own programs are going???
Thank you Sandra for starting this...I hope it works out for everyone!

Yes please. I lost 23 pounds a couple of years ago, and gained it all back while working on a cruise ship. Man, you think you gain a few on a week's cruise, try 4 months!
Anyway, let's looooooose!

Oh, I am so ready for this. I've been toying with the idea of fixing my problems, but I never have the guts to face them head on. It's always tomorrow . . . Monday . . . next week . . . etc. Maybe what I need is motivation. I hate starting something, b/c I expect results right away and feel like a failure if I don't loose a ton of weight.
My mother, who has had a slight weight problem in the past was always able to loose a few pounds very quickly. She had a bout with a hyper-active thyroid and lost all her access weight and has managed to keep it off. Now, she's constantly looking at me to see if I've lost any weight. Guess what? I've gained about 15 lbs. since my son was born. She can be so mean. Two weeks ago she said (in front of my daughter) that she was going to start calling me Big Momma. Don't know what I did to deserve that.

I would love to join you ladies as well. I am tired of being overweight and I am going to do something about it. I need to lose 60 pounds overall to meet my goal of 130. My short term goal is to lose 30 pounds by the New Year. That is four and a half months so about 10 pounds a month. I am going to try and walk at least an hour every day and when I watch tv I will hop on the elliptical that I bought a while ago but so far have not got much use out of. Eventually I hope to upgrade my walks to jogs. I am really hoping to meet my weight goal by December 2008 when I am going on my Disney cruise.
My biggest weakness is pizza! I love it and can't get enough of it. I am going to try really hard though to eat well and limit myself to pizza once a month.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and helping each other out in reaching our goals!

I've played soccer for a number of years but last summer while on the field, I managed to tear the muscles on BOTH my heels!! This happened 14 months ago but it still hurts sometimes to walk!! From June to October last year, I could not walk a block without it being excruitiating!! Needless to say, I put on a little weight.
I just turned 40....I'm looking at my body in the mirror, wondering what happened!!! I know what happened....too much wine & chips!
Sign me up! I plan to lose 10 pounds before our upcoming DW trip next month!

OK! Now let's make a plan! What diet & exercise program do you think will work for you?
MY PLAN
* Look at lots of my skinny pictures
* Drink at least 9 cups of water a day
* Count calories ~ 1200 a day
* Eat healthy
* Exercise at least 30 minutes at least 5 times a week
* Set small goals and a couple a LARGER goals
* Plan a Florida trip and think about all the beautiful new clothes I can buy
GOALS
1. I'm 230 lbs now. My sister's wedding is 3 weeks away. I'd like to lose 10 lbs by then. I think I can do it because every time I diet, I lose a lot at the beginning and then tapper off to about 2 pounds a week.
2. Christmas is 20 weeks away. My goals is to be under 200 lbs by then. If I remain on task, I could potenitally be 190 lbs on Cmas Day. But I'll be very happy with 199 lbs.
3. March Break 2008 is 30 weeks away. If we do Florida it will be March 2008. Potentially, I could be 170 lbs by then. That's a 60 pound drop.
4. By May long weekend 2008 I should be at goal weight.
I plan to attack the weight aggresively so my secret dream goal is to be 149 lbs by March Break 2008. The last time I lost 80 lbs, I did it in 8 months using the above plan. The differences now are my age and my meds. I was 34 then, I'm 42 now.
Today has been a good day. I've eaten breakfast, two teas and lots of water. It feels good not to have sugar and fat weighing me down today.
Dinner will be a beautiful chunky veggie stew ~ homemade!
DH is so supportive! Blessings & Love, Sandra

I think that this would be a good place to share some tips and tricks....
I have a couple.
1) Eat lots of fiber. Veggies are full of fiber. Fiber is a slow release food - this breaks down at a slower rate in our digestive system, leaving us feeling fuller for longer. Fiber is also a low - calorie filler. it does double duty - fills up your stomach so you feel satiated; and your body takes longer and slows down the digestive process. There are two types of fiber: 1) soluble - found in foods like oatmeal, beans, barley, and citrus fruits and has also been shown to lower cholesterol leverl; and 2) insoluble - important for normal bowel function and is typically found in whole wheat breads and cereals and most vegetables.
2) change from caffeinated to decaf - caffeine stimulates insulin production, which in turn stimulates the release of insulin. This encourages your appetite, which in turn makes you want to eat more.
ok - those are my tips for the day....anybody else?

This is a fantastic thread! I've struggled with my weight since I was a teenager. I'm 5'4", and I've always been 'curvy'. Even when I did martial arts for 2 hours a night, 5 nights a week (I was a gold medal champion at several national competitions), I was still a large size 9/10 thanks to my hips and bust!
Over the years (I'm 26 now), I've seen my weight slowly creep up to 210 lbs. About 5 months ago, when I seriously got into planning my upcoming vacation (Less than 4 weeks until we arrive at WDW!), I've gotten serious about losing weight. I've dropped from 210 lbs to 186.6 (as of this morning's weigh in). I'd love to be under 180 for my trip. Over the next two weeks, I'm doing a 'body cleansing' which should help with that goal, and kick me off the platform I've been on for the last 4 weeks. I'm eating nothing but fruits and veggies (and lots of them at that!) during the day, and having a big salad and portion of chicken or fish for dinner, and of course, drinking lots of water.
I've been doing so for about four days now, and I've already found that my energy has jumped through the roof, I'm sleeping better, and find I'm feeling better over all. Who knew that they knew what they were talking about when they said 'get your veggies and fruit servings up'!

My ultimate goal is to be in the 130's (I am at 202 right now) by December 2008 when I go on my two week WDW and Disney Cruise vacation. My short term goal is to lose 30 pounds by January 1.
I am going to try and walk at least an hour every day and then hopefully once I start to get into better shape I will start jogging. I also have an elliptical trainer at home and I will try and use that as much as possible as well. My diet at the moment consists of
Breakfast
Bowl of cereal
Glass of Skim milk
Piece of fruit usually a banana or an apple
Lunch
Ham and Turkey Sandwich on Whole wheat with a small salad on the side w/ fat free dressing
Dinner
Grilled chicken breast with fresh veggies
Nights when I am at work for dinner I will switch my lunch and dinner schedule around or I will have one of the weight watchers microwave dinners along with some veggies and fruit. I work shift work which makes it very difficult to have a regular eating schedule.
I also try and drink a lot of water throughout the day. I always have water sitting at my desk.
My tip to everyone is to try and fit your exercise in in the morning. I find it helps energize me for the rest of the day.
Also don't skip breakfast! It gets your metabolism moving and helps you burn calories throughout the day and also gives you that energy boost you need to function during the day.

I'm making a yummy veggie soup right now. We were going to head to the trailer today, but it's cold and rainy so I'm going to go tomorrow. Tonight I'll do 30 minutes of treadmill and about 15-20 minutes of weights. Since I used to teach aerobics, I know all the fun and functional moves.

OOOH Sandra....Love soup!!
Here is a great recipe for a soup that I kind of made up....but very low in fat! My BF loves this soup and asks for me to make it at least once a month!
Cream of Turkey Tomato Veggie Rice Soup (I couldn't figure out what kind of soup I wanted, so I mixed them all into one!)
1 tbsp Olive oil
2 tsp minced garlic
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup tomato paste
1.5 L low fat/low sodium chicken broth
1 cup diced tomatoes
2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/8 tsp dried thyme
1/4 dry white wine (or use more chicken broth if you don't want wine)
1 bay leaf
veggies (use whatever you want - I use carrots, celery, peppers)
1 lb. cooked and drained ground turkey/chicken
1/2 cup uncook rice
1.5 cup skim milk
Directions:
1) Put olive oil in large saucepan over medium heat, and cook garlic, onions, veggies until softened (about 2-3 min).
2) stir in tomato paste and cook until color is rusty.
3) pour in chicken broth, and stir in turkey, tomatoes, basil, oregano, thyme, bay leaf, wine and rice.
4) bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes.
5) Remove from heat and add milk.
Takes no time to make, freezes easily, and is very yummy!
I make this and then freeze individual containers for work or for when there is no food and I need to eat something before I binge.
Anybody else have any really good tried and true recipes?

Tonight we are having hamburger soup with whole wheat buns. It is rainy and cool here too!
Not only am I trying to lose weight I am also trying to incorporate changes in my lifestyle so I do not put the weight back on. I am trying to make nutrient dense choices and when I am hungry I choose a snack rich in protein with a fruit or vegetable.
Pop is my biggest downfall. I cannot eat or drink anything with artificial sweetener (really bothers my stomach) so I switched to low sodium club soda with fruit juice. I can only drink 8 glasses of water a day if I add something to it...usually a squirt of lime juice.
We just bought a 1 year membership at our local fitness/rec centre.
Right now I have no time line or weight goal. My only goal is to try and hit the gym 3 days a week and make healthy food choices everyday. I have loads of food allergies so working around that is tough. Once I have hit my gym goal consistently then I will set another goal. My final goal is to be 155lbs. I am 5'9 1/2 and feel my best at 155.
ChisJo thanks for the great recipie. If anyone has some healthy baking ideas it would be great also!

Put down those chips....they are terrible for you....soaked in grease, and the calories you are consuming is about the same a starving child in africa gets in the entire month (or more)...so stop it.
Now, as for the wine....in every diet book I have read (and trust me, I have read many - it's like my favorite passtime or something:rotfl: ), a glass of wine on occassion is okay....at least, that is what I really want to believe since I drink a glass of wine *cough* almost every day *cough* - well, maybe every other day....but it's made from grapes and aren't grapes good for you???

I have been reading this thread since yesterday and wanting to join. I really dont need to lose weight. I am currently 39 and weigh 120 pounds. However I need some motivation to keep it off. I am limited in the exersice I can do because of having a complete hip replacement 3 years ago. So if anyone can give me some ideas for exercises I would greatly appreciate it. I can only bike ride for 10mins, I am not allowed to use a treadmill and I cant do any exercise that puts me past a 90 degree angle. Please keep the meal ideas coming, they are great.

I"M IN
OK I've been so unhappy about the weight for tooo long,,
Sandra I'm running down the street to meet you,for those of you that don't know Sandra and I found out that we live in the same neighbourhood,,yep. Sandra suggested that we get together for a coffee,,and I embarassed to say I smoke too and was afraid Sandra wouldn't care to meet for a coffee if she knew that. But I'm comming clean ,,,,,I think I weigh about 186 and I'm only five feet tall. I went through major thyroid storm--Hyper (multiple nodules growing on the thyroid --radio active iodine used and good bye thyroid,,then by mistake they let me go Hypo (miscommunication of docs)--ok now taking one little pill a day.
But the weight is here and it's not going to go anywhere until I do something about it.
1. want to loose 10 pounds by the time I go back to work in Sept(three weeks)
2.I will drink 8 or more glasses of water a day--(not tea) like the doc suggested.
3.I will get up off this couch and move --wish I had a treadmill but I guess I will start by walking in the forrest each day -15 minutes.
4.I want to loose as much as I can by March Break when I go HOME for the first time.
Well that's it for me,,baby steps I know but got to start somewhere.

Ok I posted earlier but I am glad to see there are other canadian disers trying to lose. I have the motivation of my Christmas trip to Disney. I have been drinking 4-5 bottles of water a day (8-10 glasses) and I am trying to watch what I eat. One thing that every expert has ever told me is don't deprive yourself completely of a food you love. Just have a small amount. If you deprive yourself you are more likely to binge or blow off your healthy lifestyle (they also said don't call it a diet) I find that I use the Nestea sticks in my water they are only 5 calories and made with splenda not aspartame so no headaches for me. I want to wish all my fellow disers luck in there weight loss venture.

Hi. From Paris, Ontario. I am in this too. Its funny, the lowest weight was after my two DDs were born. Doctor said that delivery would be easier if I lost weight during the 9 months. I don't know how I did it, but that was 15 and 18 years ago.I don't think I was over 180 either, at the beginning. So its off to the trailer tomorrow with fruits, veggies, running shoes, and motivation.

You guys all sound like you have the right mentality to start losing that weight. As for those who dislike exercise or don't know where to start, try taking early morning walks. It is not high impact but it is still very good for you and it is very relaxing and I personally think it is a great way to start the day. I like to go out with my Ipod and think about the day ahead of me and think about what needs to get done. I find it very relaxing and love watching the neighbourhood come to life as everybody wakes up and heads off to work.
I am working a midnight shift tonight so I made myself a Turkey and Ham sandwich on whole wheat and packed a little ziploc with carrots and celery to munch on when I get hungry. When I get home at 8 if I am not too tired I am going to jump on the elliptical trainer and watch the morning news and Regis and Kelly!

I've been working really hard at dropping the pounds lately. I'm 5'6'', and size 24, almost down to 22 after a 15lb loss over the last 5 weeks. My hubby made up a sheet in excel that tracks my calorie intake, and tells me how many I have left for the day, how many I've had all week, and it graphs my weekly progress. It's simple, but so handy! I also do 30-45 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week.
I think one of the best tips is to write down EVERYTHING you eat before it crosses your lips. It really helps curb the mindless eating!! I can't stress this enough!
The thing that inspired me to start this new regime is that I was really strongly considering bariatric surgery. But as I did the research for the procedure, I came to realise how much hard work there is after. It's not a magic bullet! You still want to overeat, you just get super sick if you do. So I decided, if I put in the effort NOW that I would have to put in THEN, I could lose the weight and keep my digestive track in one piece!
Like I said, I'm only 15 lbs down. But I'm feeling motivated and inspired and I know that if I work hard enough, I'll achieve my goal!

wow - I have to leave for work by 6pm, get home at 8am...then I have to get up at 4pm to start my day all over again....still wouldn't be able to do it! I'm a night owl too....but, by the time I leave and get home from work, it's 14 hours....days off - no problem....I am happy to work out and take the time to do it....but truthfully, on my 4 night stretch - it's almost impossible!
I am lucky as my shifts are only 8 hours normally 12-8, 4-12, or 8-4. Sometimes I cover for other people and will end up working 12 hour shifts. I mostly seem to work the 12-8's though. I live nearby the office as well so it only takes about 10 miuntes to drive to work. On nice days when I work the day shift 8-4 I try and walk to and from and that way I get in my exercise and it is a 45 minute walk each way.:thumbsup2
When I work a row of 12-8's I try and stay awake when I get home until about 4 or 5pm and then I sleep until 11:30 then roll out of bed and head to work. This works well if I am working a string of night shifts. It is tough though when I switch back to days because then I have to readjust my sleep schedule. I can't wait until I get a job that allows me to keep regular hours.:thumbsup2

:welcome: to our group! It sounds like you are off to a great start. It is great that your hubby is so supportive as well. I am glad that you have the view on surgery that you do. I think many people look at it as an easy fix but I am of the same opinion as you that it should only be used as a last resort once you have sincerely tried losing the weight on your own.

Good Morning Ladies!! Just wanted to let you know that I'm up...I'm going to have a bowl of oatmeal (I usually do not eat breakfast) & a coffee with milk, not cream. I'm also going to get my too-big butt off the couch today & go for a long walk! Today I will start my 10,000 steps a day program (without holding a wine glass & bowl of chips!! ha!) & I will drink nothing during the day except water.
Good luck Ladies going into the weekend! Remember, YOU CAN DO IT & YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!! :cheer2:

I don't mind my weight so much but I just can't stand the jiggle any more. Candy and Cheese are my biggest enemies. I am going to get off the computer right now and do my exercise video.:yay: Good luck to everyone. Back in my bikini for Disney Trip March 2008:thumbsup2

Ladies ~ You Inspire Me!
I'm mentally planning my meals this morning before heading to the trailer. I'll be good up there and think of you all! THANKS!
PS: HEY MEL! I met your sister and nephew yesterday at Price Chopper [in the veggie section of course....heeheehee]. I know your nephew C very well! We chatted for a while and then he came up to me and whispered, "I think you know my Aunt Mel." I laughed so hard! He is the sweetest kid! He came to visit my school program in June with his buddy A. We will do coffee. I am an ex-smoker, but I'm the best ex-smoker around.....I admit, I still like the smell of ciggies.

Diet By Numbers
by SandraC
My diet plan is all about MATH;
FACT: 3500 calories = 1 pound, so I have to decrease my caloric intake and increase my physical activity to burn the calories.
ACTIVITY: Multiple your current weight by these factors:
10 for inactive
13 for moderately active
15 for very active
MY WEIGHT: 229 lbs x 13 [moderately active] = 2977
To maintain my current weight of 229 lbs, I have to each 2977 calories. Since I already adjusted my lifestyle from inactive to moderately active, I know have to adjust my caloric intake.
I am aggressively attacking the weight with a 1200 calorie a day diet. Do not eat less than 1200 a day, it's not healthy. Your body will hold on to the fat you have because it's starving.
2977 - 1200 calories = 1777 calories burned daily
3500 divided by 1777 = 1.97 days. So every 1.97 days [or 2 days to round it off] I will lose 1 lbs [3500 calories].
I will adjust this as I lose weight.
Since I'm not eating a lot of calories, I have to be very wise about those calories. Lots of veggies & fruits, whole wheats, protein and very little fat...and only the good fat. Lots of water and I need my tea too!
I just started this week and I already feel better! S
LADIES! Make yourself a priority in your life!Blessings, Sandra

I've been trying to lose weight since the beginning of the year. I put on about 25 pounds in the last year since starting my new job (crazy huh) - I find I have less time to work out and being downtown where almost everyone goes out for lunch and gets Tim's for breakfast every morning, it's all very tempting!
Anyway, I've lost 15 pounds so far and I'm hoping to lose the last 10 pounds before I leave next month. I have dropped from a (very tight) size 12 back down to a size 6 and if I can go back down to a size 4 I won't be as worried about the weight :) I recently added in weight training to my routine so I know my weight loss might slow down a little.
Things that have helped me lose weight are - eating at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, drinking 8 glasses of water a day, replacing my daily Tim's coffee with green tea (no sugar or cream), cutting out as much processed foods, kicking my juice habit and cutting junk food out of my grocery list. I do allow myself one cheat day a week so that I don't completely deprive myself of all the things that I love to eat.
I also run for at least 30 minutes and do Pilates 3 times a week. That's all I can think of for now. I'm glad to see that there are other's trying to lose weight as well! I hope we can all help to motive each other:)

I'll join. When we went to Disney in Oct 2005 I was 228lbs. November 2006 when I started my new job I was 212lbs. Just before March I was 205lbs, went to Dominican Republic end of March got travel sickness lost 5lb. Joined Weight Watchers and am now 184lb. My ultimate goal is 145-150lbs. I don't stay for WW meetings, too much shift work and am not really into the meetings.

ok - i admit....i ate chocolate last night....I did so very good in the day, but then we were celebrating a promotion last night, had a couple glasses of wine, and then chocolate ice cream (my weakness) came out....i felt terrible!! Sandra - where were you to knock that spoon out of my hand?!?!?!
So, now I have some ground work to make up. GOOD tip on the writing it down before eating the food....thanks!!!
My tip for the day - make sure you eat breakfast....your body has been starving all night, so make sure you take the time to eat a healthy, whole grain type of breakfast. Also ensure that one of the first things that you do is to drink a big glass of water....your body has gone 8 hours without hydration and should be replenished. I keep a glass by the bathroom sink, so since that's the first place I go to in the morning, I take a drink!!
The other thing I thought would be a good idea is to share shopping tips. I just bought a cereal very high in fiber, made with whole wheat, and has fruit in it, with very little sugar. It's called "yogactive" - it has flakes of dried probiotic yoguart in it - but I find I usually take those out - it's really good and quite tasty. Anybody else??
Also, do we want to do a weigh in every Sunday?

I think a weigh in every Sunday is a great idea. That way we can all congratulate each other on how great we are all doing and it also provides an extra incentive to work out and eat well as we know we are going to be coming clean here on the boards!
You can post your weight if you are comfortable with that or you can just post haw many pounds you lost. Whatever makes each person comfortable.

I really want to join this group as well. I'm just hoping that there might be others out there in my situation. I have two herniated discs in my lower back and find it hard to do alot of exercise. I am limited in my abs workouts and have to modify weight training. I also cannot walk at an incline. Can anyone relate to this? Would love to hear how you have overcome this hurdle.

I was Dx last year with Degenerative Bone disease,,,(back hips ankles --you name it where there's a joint it seems to be slipping in there)so I kinda know what you are saying although I'm sure yours is much more painful. . I am going to look into getting a few "dance exercise DVD/videos from my SIL and check out an exercise ball. I know when I fell and hurt my tailbone years ago they suggested an exercise ball. Just a thought. Has your Doc suggested anything?

I think Sunday weigh is are a great idea. We are currently doing that right know. I have been trying to lose weight before I leave next Saturday for two weeks at WDW and the Dining Plan. Currenly I have lost 10 pounds since June. My weight is not suppose to go past 120, do to a hip problem (I gained 7 pounds over the winter). However I am trying to get down to 115 so I dont feel guilty about eating what ever I want on holiday. I have 2 pounds to go.
The one thing I have found to help myself in trying to lose weight and keep it off for the past 3 years is eat in moderation. Dont cut out the sweets or anything you like. I have a very big sweet tooth and love my chocolate. I will have a choclate bar or even desert with supper once or twice a week. I just make sure I dont go over my calories for the day. Currently I use 1200 -1500 Calories per day. The one thing I was told is to write down everything you eat. You soon discover you are eating more than you really think your are (when you are making supper every time you taste the food you are making, your eating calories you never thought about). Also measure or weigh your food, look at the back of the package for the calories and use that as a guide line. (For and example 1 tbsp of salad dressing is anywhere from 25 - 60 calories)
Sandra, thanks for the idea of yoga. I am going to look into that.

Good morning folks:
First, I want to thank those of you who responded to my thread. I appreciate your concern. Yes, the herniated discs are very painful but I know that if I don't continue moving, I will only get worse. I also know that, if I don't start taking care of my body, I will regret it when i'm older. I'm 33 years old and have struggled with weight issues all my life. The disc problem was mostly caused by heredity but I know the excess weight is not helping. My husband and I want to have a child so I feel like I really have no choice but the get some weight off. I do have a suggestion to throw out to the forum that I hope will help: back in March, I found this amazing weightloss website called "Sparkpeople". It's totally free and gives you nutrition info (how many cals/day, amt of exercise/day) that should help you lose weight. Since March i've lost 24 lbs just by tracking my calories online and getting a little exercise. It sends you really helpful emails and has a wide range of tools available to help in the weightloss struggle. If you want to check it out for yourself, go to their website (google Sparkpeople and you will find it). I am in no way affiliated with the website; just a user who has found it very helpful to me. Now, I just have to get back on the program and fire up my weight loss once again. I have reached a plateau and realize that I have to start working harder.
We can all do this! There is strength in numbers. Have great weekend :thumbsup2

I will have to check that place out. It is free which is even better. I have a hard time paying for weight loss programs when they are simply telling me what I already know, eat balanced nutritional meals and exercise regularly. I know that joining these programs really help some people as it adds a level of accountability but I just can't see myself parting with the money. I would rather take the money I would spend on that and join a gym.

Thanks. Exercise might be what the problem is. When I was trainning for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer I was walking between 60-75km a week. That was from January to May. The walk was the first weekend in June and since then my walking has decreased. I still walking but I am only doing about 40-50km a week now. My walking partner is not walking any more so I am finding it hard to get motivated to walk on my own.

Can I join in too. I have six kids, I'm still nursing the youngest at 15 months. I used WW to get my weight down after number four but became pregnant with number five before I reached my goal weight. I'm 173 lbs and want to lose 30 to 35 lbs. I find it very difficult to invest the time to myself in order to do this but I know that this is VERY important. Earlier this year I had an abnormal echocardiogram and after seeing a cardiologist he said that it was what he would expect form someone with my history and that it wasn't much to worry about. That being said it made me realize how irresponsible I'm being carrying this extra weight, I've already had open heart surgery (for a congential defect at the age of five). So I've been given a second chance already and should be doing everything in my power to take care of myself. That being said I just can't seem to bring myself to make the long term changes that I need to.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread and hope that this will provide me with the inspiration and support I need to do this. I've tried starting WW at home a couple of times since the baby but without my DH on board I never seem to stick to it.
So now my goal is to lose 10lbs by our vacation (it always come off quick at the start) and 30 lbs by Christmas. I plan on doing this by excercising more (stairs, stairs stairs) and tracking points. I will take the time to do this because my health is one of the best things I can do for my children.

Thanks Mel! It's a sloooooow process, at least that's what it feels like. But then I think about it and remember that I didn't gain all of this weight in just a couple of days or weeks so it's probably not realistic to lose it that quickly either :goodvibes

I usually weigh myself once a week. When I was getting on the scale everyday, I noticed that my weight fluctuated a lot between days and it felt discouraging to me. Sometimes water retention or the foods you eat can temporarily cause your weight to go up ... or not going to the bathroom (sorry to be gross).

Have a great trip! When I went to the World last month I thought for sure I was going to gain weight since we were on the dining plan but I was happily surprised to find out that I stayed at my pre-trip weight. I guess all that walking and swimming balanced out all the extra food I was consuming. Either way don't sweat it too much, you are on vacation!

I was very bad today:guilty: My mom and I went out shopping and ended up having pizza for lunch. I had a bunch of breadsticks and then 3 slices of pizza. At least the pizza was thin crust and the toppings were veggies and chicken so that makes me feel a bit better about it. I am not overweight but am close to 40 and starting to get a little flabby. I haven't exercised in 18 years but due to this thread, I started a few days ago, to try and tone up.
This is what I am doing daily:
10-15 kms on an exercise bike (takes 20-25 minutes)
50 crunchies
100 leg lifts
drinking eight glasses of water (mostly before meals and in the evening).
I am a pretty active person (kayaking, yoga, hiking etc). so adding this to my daily routine feels like nothing. I am going to try and double what I am doing daily in the next week and see how that feels.
My goal is to be able to do the Terry Fox Marathon next month with DD10. At this point I will probably be a spectator but would like to be able to do it with her.
Any suggestions? This is all new to me.

Go to any Running Room store...they have a great book by John Staton called "Running start to finish". It's a book for all running classes, from learning to run 1 km to finishing a marathon. It goes through everything from stretching, simple exercises for weight training, and clothing, etc. I love this book and follow it very closely when training.

Well no exercise today... I was in the emergence room till 4am with dd12 because of stomach pains. Thought it might be her appendix. She is fine today. But I had a big headache and slept off and on for a big part of the day. Did go for a 30 min walk and ate very very little today. Hope everyone had a better day. Weigh in tomorrow:thumbsup2

Hey - I need a butter substitute of sort....Whenever I cook veggies, I automatically put butter/margarine on them. Trying to cut out some of the fats that I am eating, what can I use instead??? Any advice??
LOVE the applesauce tip!
Becel has a spray margerine. You get the flavour without using too much of it. I use it on my popcorn.

When your baking you can subsitute the fat measure for measure with applesauce. I do this when baking muffins, cakes, squares and it makes them good and moist.
That is a great idea! I am allergic to eggs so I can use applesauce as an egg substitute too!

Good luck to everyone weighing in tomorrow...I mean today. Just got off work and working nights screw me up. Oh well 1 more night to go... I know when I first joined WW that is something that I had to work through.
My big weigh in day is Friday, hubby and kids were away all this week and I wasn't the greatest so will have to work twice as hard this week.

Count me in too. I have lost 20lbs but would love to loose more. We have been going for bike rides and our goldendoodle loves to run along side. DS and DD need to get new bikes. We are headed to the States in a week or so and plan on looking for them.

Jumping in here also - almost! We leave Friday for a week long cruise followed by our week at Disney on the dining plan - double whammy for me!
I will be joining in Sept 2nd bright and early!
I went from 240 and a sz 22 several years ago to 173 and sz 14/16 then my grammaIL died, I fractured my elbow, popped my achilles tendon which stopped the exercising and life got crazy - sad to say I'm back up to 225 and a sz 18/20. I visited with my mom Friday who has been very over weight all her life and watched her try to walk across the field to ds' baseball game and decided right then and there that I need to take control of my weight again - I am pushing 40 and want to be healthy enough to do stuff with my boys and dh for a long time to come.
If it helps - last time I started out slowly - change 1 thing at a time - I wrote down everything I ate, drank my 8 to 10 glasses of water a day and followed the canada food guide. I made sure to treat myself at least 2 times a week b/c I found if I didn't then I felt deprived and binged. I also did alot of walking.
So I will be joining you for sure when I get back from vacation in 3 weeks!!

Well thanks to you guys I started again. It's a Stott Pilates video called Walk On to Weight Loss. I am not one to understand calories but I assume my breakfast today is low in calories...Low fat yogurt with fresh peaches and 100% bran buds on top. Almost as good as bacon and eggs!

If not too late, I would like to participate with you all on your quest to losing weight.
However, I am going to be realistic and start once school starts again. We will be going to Montreal to celebrate our sons birthday with the families so I know that I won't be sticking to any plans.
But, once I return my plan is to start back up at Curves 3X /week and even while I am travelling for work to ensure that I am concious of what goes in my mouth.
I had lost almost 35 pounds at one time ane it slowly creeped back up. I now know that we won't be trying for a 2nd (DS is 10 and I feel that we are through with the fertility clinics and all the psychological ups and downs that go hand in hand with that process.) So the time is right!
You all seem like a VERY supportive group..so I hope you don't mind my joining in :wave2:

Joline, I've been reading a book by a nutritionist (title eludes me right now), and the advice is to not eliminate fats, but to choose good fats, instead. Perhaps a splash of olive oil over the veggies would be a solution for flavour AND for health.

OK time for the Sunday weigh in. I am down 2 pounds this week which makes a total of 7lbs since I started. I was bad this weekend but it was a stressful week I will do better next week. Way to go everybody on there commitment to lose and to all going away have a great trip!!! One thing I can say about WDW is that I have never gained weight while on a trip to WDW I usually lose a couple of pounds must be all the walking and the water I drinkl while there.
SandraC
08-12-2007, 11:52 AM
I stay the same weight during WDW trips too. I too think it's the walking and water. We also buy lots of fruits and veggie at the grocery store. I might be fat, but I REALLY like my fruits and veggies. It's the cheese and pastries I have to give up. My problem is in the volume of food I eat. I eat LOTS! Now that I'm motivated to lose the weight, I don't grave the junk and I'm thinking about food, making plans. It's working! Blessings, Sandra

I'm so proud of everyone and their successes....keep up the good work! Welcome to all the new joiners - we welcome you and any advice or tips you want to pass on....
Well...lets see....tip of the day....if you don't feel like working out (which is often the case for me), take 5 minutes just to go for a walk, or do some housework (great exercise, btw). Usually you find that you will have to energy to continue the workout and next thing you know, 20-30 min have passed!
Yesterday, I went for a 4km run, and today we are doing a cross-country 7km run....I am really looking forward to it!
I have a weakness - I work nights, and I realized that I like to indulge in the early mornings....I need some advice on how to curb my cravings! Although, last night, someone brought Ms. Vickys Sea salt and malt vinegar chips to work (uhm...my favorite!) and I didn't eat one, and they were open in front of me all night - I don't know where the will power came from! Also, I think nurses are some of the most unhealthy people (sorry to all my fellow nurses out there - but its true!). Working in peds, I cannot tell you how many parents bring us chocolate, Tim Hortons donuts, squares, pizza, cookies, etc., on a pretty much daily basis - it's really hard at times to say no. I have to use some pretty good will power here to make it through the next couple of weeks (I get one cheat day a week, but for the first two weeks, I have to eat really good to clean out my body!).
Anyways - congrats to all the "losers" out there this week - Hopefully next week, I will get to join all you losers!

A food I really enjoy is spaghetti squash. I cut one in half, add about .5 cup of water and nuke it for about 10 minutes. Pull apart the inner veggie so it looks like spaghetti. I measure a little parmesean cheese and/or tomato sauce over it. It's filling and the squash is only about 50 calories per cup! S

Oh boy --what a day --kids bought chips and I managed to stay away from them--just jumped up ran out to the store and bought a bunch of salad things --came home made up a big salad --enough to last the week and had a bowl for dinner .Going to need a bit more time to adj to all of this. I think my digestive system is rebeling.
Sandra I've never tried the spaghetti squash---Price Chopper ??? Dominion???
sounds good,,,yeah know I love fruits and vegies but I've always been tooo lazy to wash and cut everything up--I'm a real fast food and pastry junkie. Yet at the group home where I work on the weekends I spend hours preparing healthy stuff for them,,crazy eh. I'm wondering if the rec centre close to me has a treadmill?? I think I"ll call tomorrow and see.
Breakfast was a waffle and tea -1/2 banana
Lunch was a tuna sandwich/water
Dinner was a medium tossed salad /water/tea
Yes I skipped Tim's today--no promises on tomorrow
I think it's great that everyone is trying --:grouphug:

Hi Mel ~ I bought the spaghetti squash at Price Chopper's on Glen Erin. YUM! Meadowvale Community Centre does have treadmills and lots of equipment. They have awesome fitness classes too! I used to teach step, hi/lo, toning and yoga there. Maybe I'll do that again when I feel more fit!
I did 30 minutes of treadmill tonight. I already feel lighter! I think I'll have a popsicle and go to bed!

Is it too late for me to join?
I'd want to lose about 10 lbs... I want to start performing on cruise ships now that I've graduated school, but all cruise lines usually want their singers and dancers to be very fit and toned - which I'm not (and on that note, I'm in final callbacks right now to work with DCL, so any pixie dust you have left... keep me in your thoughts if you remember!). I'm 5'0 1/2 and about 120 lbs... I'd love to be 110-115!
Any recipes or tips on here would be great - thanks :goodvibes

Welcome to all the new "losers"!
I just discovered something at Costco today....it's called Squirrely bread and it's completely flour free!! If you are like me and you must have your sandwiches (which I know I cannot live without!), then you must try this bread. I just had some, and albeit a little firmer, it tastes just like real bread, and the carb intake is decreased dramatically! The bread itself is made with oats and sprouts....it's pretty tasty!
So, Sundays are my designated cheat days on one term....I must do cardio workouts on this day if I cheat....so today, I woke up and had a bowl of cereal with skim milk and about a litre of water and a decaf tea.
For a snack, I had unsweetened apple sauce and fat free yoguart
For lunch (I work nights, so my lunch is usually supper for most people) I had a bbq steak with no bbq sauce, a baked potato with fat free sour cream (no butter), corn on the cob with no butter, and a tomato and basil salad, and then topped off with a glass of flavoured water. (This was my cheat day, don't forget).
Snack #2 was the squirrely bread with no butter, and REAL peanut butter and grapes, and of course, water.
Dinner - I haven't had it yet, but since my snack was pretty big, it will probably consist of yoguart and fruit.
I got to raid my MIL garden today and I scored some tomatos and some cucumbers....and they are so good....I cannot wait to have them in a salad or a sandwich (in the squirrelly bread!!).
Oh - my exercise today was a cross country run at a local wilderness center....it was so awesome....a very difficult run as we took the longest trail and the trail was very grassy, and hard to run through, plus it was a little harder to make out the shape of the earth, so unable to at times to see the dips, but overall, one of the best workouts that I ever had and cannot wait to do it again...we figure we ran about 4 km, and in that kind of terrain, it was probably one of the most difficult runs I have ever run....and I can run 5km usually with no problem.
Congrats to all the losers this week....keep up the good work and the motivation!

I love sandwiches too. One of my fav is;
two slices low cal bread
1 tsp. no fat mayo
1 slice low cal cheese [about 31 calories]
loads of lettuce
cucumber
red peppers cut into strips
tomato
It's pretty hardy and filling!

Good morning to all you ladies just starting your day!
I worked another 12-8 shift last night so I am halfway through my day right now.
I have been pretty good today. At work for my meal I had a Weight Watchers microwave meal. It was the Creamy Rigatoni with broccoli and diced chicken. Only 290 cal and I find it pretty tasty. Then around 7:30 right before I went home I had two toasted waffles w/ fibre. That was about 170 cal. I drank about a litre of water at work and I have a nice tall glass of water sitting on my desk here at home.
It is such a beautiful day out today that I just could not find an excuse not to go out for my morning walk so I walked around my neighborhood for 45 minutes. According to my Nike ipod sensor I walked 4.5 km at an average pace of 9:52 min/km and burned 446 cal.
Hope you all have a great day!

I am wondering too if you all mind if I jump on the band wagon with you? I need to lose 30 pounds and have been trying to find the motivation to do it, it seems like I do well for a few weeks and then fall apart, perhaps with having this it will help me to stay motivated.
I blew my knee out two years ago and really have not exercised much since having surgery and being on crutches for 9 months. I guess that should be my first move, to start walking at least every second day. So tonight when I get home, no matter how tired I am, I am going to go for a walk.

Not sure about the beer, but I ahve a can of pepsi infront of me and there is 41grams of sugar in the 355ml can of pepsi. 150 calories, also for the carb counters there is 41g of carbs....wow

Hey - just finished the workout and while I was doing that, the soup I made was simmering...the soup is SO good and I thought that I would share it with ya - it's a recipe like the Pasta E Fagioli from Olive Garden....(this recipe can easily be halved - the only problem is the measurements become kind of awkward to work with)
Ingredients:
2 tsp olive oil
1 lb. extra lean ground beef or ground chicken
1 small onion; chopped
1.5 cup carrots; diced
4 stalks celery; diced
24 oz. roma tomatoes; canned, diced
1 cup cooked red kidney beans (I just used a small can)
1 cup cooked white kidney beans (I just used a small can)
44 oz. low sodium low fat beef stock or chicken stock, depending on the meat you use
1.5 tsp oregano
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp parsley (fresh chopped)
5 drops tabasco
24 oz spaghetti sauce (there is a really good one from Healthy Choice that's fat free and low sodium)
4 oz. whole wheat pasta shell macaroni; or other pasta of choice
directions:
Prep: saute beef/chicken in oil in large pot until beef/chicken starts to brown. Add onions, carrots, celery, and tomatoes and simmer for about 10 minutes. drain and rinse beans and add to the pot. Also add beef/chicken stock, oregano, pepper, tabasco, spaghetti sauce, and noodles. Add chopped parsley. Simmer until celery and carrots are tender; about 45 minutes. Makes 9 qts.
I also added some garlic, because I add garlic to everything. This freezes really good. I am freezing some in some individual containers to take to work.
Don't be shy to share your favorite recipes....I am always looking for something new to try.
Hope you all had a good workout - have a great night!

One more recipe that I recently tried....it's a little different, but very very tasty.
Indian Peanut Stew:
INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large white onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons grated fresh ginger root (If you don't want to use fresh, use 1.5 tbs ground ginger)
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup chunky natural peanut butter (I only used half of this and it was sufficient - make sure you don't use the peanut butter with sugar in it!!)
DIRECTIONS
Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onion, and cook until soft and golden, stirring frequently. Add garlic and ginger, and cook until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, and season with cayenne pepper. Increase heat to medium, and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in peanut butter and heat through. The mixture will thicken. Serve over basmati rice.
I used ground chicken in this as well and it was very good. I read a review on this recipe on allrecipes.com, and many added chickpeas to it and loved it (I personally do not really like chickpeas, but if you like them, they may be good in it!)

Awesome will power. There will ALWAYS be pizza and cake in our lives. We just have to decide when to eat it...and eat it consciously.
My sister's wedding is in a couple of weeks. I'm the matron on honour....although I prefer the term Best Woman....heeheehee. My plan is to try a bite or two of everything I want, but not fill my plate silly. This way I'll still get to taste everything without blowing my diet. I know the calories will be more than my daily diet, but maybe only by 200-300.
Someone once told me this....

Hey, that SparkPeople website is a great idea, thanks :goodvibes
However, it doesn't want to work for me this morning. Guess I'll just have to go by my own diet plan this morning. I actually love eating oatmeal for breakfast, and that's healthy! So maybe by lunch it'll be working ;)
There's this park by my house that I've been meaning to check out for a year, so I ended up doing a nearly two-hour walk (including an extremely "not made for humans" steep hill. Though it was pretty great when I got to the top!)
Besides that, I need to keep taking dance classes, now that I've graduated. I used to take it 4 times a week, but now that I'm a poor artist (:rotfl:), I'm cutting that down, but I'll still be going twice a week! The boyfriend and I take ballroom and latin also :) And we're thinking about pilates.
There's my little update. Everyone's doing great!

I've been good today too! For breakfast I had a cup of dry cereal with yogurt (I really can't do the milk thing), and I had my cup of tea (only I even measured... 1/8 tsp. sugar, instead of a whole one!). For lunch I had leftovers from dinner; some rice, half a boneless, skinless chicken breast, and half a corn on the cob.
Besides that, I've been drinking lots and lots of WATER. Probably one of the best things for you! We're supposed to be getting 8 glasses a day.
Another thing is I've been keeping a journal - counting all the calories I've been consuming each day.
I'm going to the movies tonight! The temptation will suck. But, shouldn't be a problem. I've been researching healthy snack recipes to take with us tonight!
On that note about the movies... I nearly died when I read this, you guys may want to see too:

Hi everyone! Just got back from my supposed-to-be-daily 45 minutes on the treadmill. I love that post-workout feeling! I wish you could bottle and sell it. Take a dab as inspiration to get your butt down to the gym!
I missed the Sunday weigh in, but I totally need to share my progress. I'm 17 lbs down now! :cool1: I now weigh less than than I did when I got married, and that just thrills me. I've still got a loooooong way to go, but for the first time I'm feeling like it's actually possible.
I want to loose 3 more before our trip in 2 weeks, and I think that's totally do-able. I know I'm going to put on a little with the free dining. But since it is free, I wont feel the need to 'get my money's worth'. It's going to be sooo nice to order whatever I want, leave desserts and bring back treats for family with the snack credits.
Only 13 days to go!:yay:

"Ready for some staggering stats? According to CalorieKing.com, a large tub of movie theater popcorn (20 cups) packs in 76 fat grams ... The equivalent of five full size Snickers bars ... or more than six McDonald's cheeseburgers.
As for counting calories, that same bucket of kernels holds about 1,100, shockingly close to most weight loss diet's caloric limit for the entire day (about 1,200 to 1,500)."
OMG :scared1: that is crazy! Taking the kids to a movie tomorrow night - will have to bring my own snacks - time for the extra large purse :rolleyes1

popcorn:: I guess it's only air popped from now on! I couldn't believe how many calories were in movie theatre popcorn:scared1: .
I made my big pot of soup and had that for supper (to make up for the donut and mac and cheese at lunch). I'm still doing okay for my total point count for the day though- gotta love that 0 point soup.

I'm in:banana: I've never done online support. Who knows maybe it will help. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes with my 2nd daughter almost 3 yrs ago. Post baby the Dr. told me I had a predisposition to develop diabetes if I didn't do something abt my weight. She put me on meds for it after she yelled at me and spoke to me like a child:confused: I am a grown woman who is fairly intelligent. I know what to do, just like all of you, I'm sure. It's alot easier saying it than doing it. It's a lifelong plan and not a DIET:scared1: Anyway, maybe some positive reinforcement will work. I'm looking forward to this journey we're undertaking:cool1: I'm 44 yrs old, 5'4" and on Sunday my wt was 219lbs. I would like to get to 150-160 lbs and go from there as to whether to lose more after that. I think we can all agree it's silly to want to get back to my high school weight, which was 135 lbs and I thought I was fat then. What was I thinking:sad2:

Yesterday was kind of a weird day....I got up around 2 pm (night shift worker), did tons of errands, got back home around 4:30, ate breakfast which consisted of some soup I had made the other day, got ready to go out with some friends, ate a salmon caeser salad at a restaurant (literally, the healthiest thing they had!), and then I went to go ses JOSH GROBAN!! If you don't know who he is, truly, one of the most talented artists I have ever heard....and very entertaining. He came by our seats and I got to touch him!! Ok, so nothing too exciting, but the concert was fantastic. If he's coming to your town, try to go see him....you won't be disappointed.
Anyways, when I got home, I was tired, but I needed to stay up until about 3am because I am still working nights this week. I was hungry, so I ate some more soup....then, around 2 am, I became hungry again. I had every intention of working out, but I take wednesday off of any workouts, so I decided that I would switch days, since I was sore and tired anyways. I really wanted something crunchy (my late night snack weakness) - so instead of eating chips, I opted for some cereal instead, and it worked!! I didn't eat anything bad for me and the craving went away.
Anyways, I am off to go running....Have a great day everyone!

Not only did I get to see him, I got to touch him!!! We were sitting on the floor, in the 10th row! Then, we rushed the stage when there was only about 3 songs left...we got the BEST pictures of him. Seriously, I've been to lots of concerts, but I think that was one of the best concerts I have ever been too....and the age groups ranged from 6-90. And he was SO funny! Anyways, good times...I recommend him to anyone!

That's really cool! I am embarrased to say that I have only ever been to one concert and it was an N'Sync concert when I was 13 or so. :o My friend was in love with them and I thought they were alright so I went with her to the concert. We had pretty good seats and the show was entertaining.

I love concerts...but careful of which ones I go to....I went to Nickelback and was on the floor....big mistake. I cannot tell you how many times that I got kicked in the head by crowd surfers!
I went to Live, and got into the VIP room afterwards...that was pretty cool! I got to party with them. I got to party with the Trews too and with Black Eyed Peas (although, they were so drunk, I am sure that they had no idea that we were even there!).
Anyways, I don't go to as many as I once did. Now, life gets in the way, and I think I mellowed out in the music I listen to as well. I also have more responsibilities, and truthfully, half the time I don't even know someone is coming to town until somebody tells me! But, I still like going....when I get the chance!
Anyways....hope everyone is having a good day and sticking to their diet plans....

Ok everyone....lets keep the momentum going....
what is everyone doing for workouts???
I have to admit, when I workout, I kind of workout hard. I hit the weights and the cardio pretty hard. When I am in workout mode, I go hard. I trained really hard all last year, but due to surgery, I had to stop for awhile, then I got really lazy...now it's just getting that motivation back to continue the workout...
So, the workout that I am doing right now is kind of like a military training type of workout (it's the same workout regime that Halle Barry did for Catwoman (she looked SO good in that movie))....you go really hard for about 20 minutes, then the cardio starts - minumum of 10 minutes - I usually go for about 30.
What does everyone else do??

I am not into high impact exercise so I usually walk for about an hour and I also use my elliptical trainer and sometimes I will throw in a workout video. I try to switch it up as I have read that that helps keep you from plateauing early on.

So far the week is going well for exercise. I have been walking about 10km each day. That will be a little harder to do when school goes back. I am usually really tired the first week back with the kids.
Josh Groban  Saw him when he was here in Ottawa back in February. He puts on a magnificent show for sure!

I've been kind of rotating - one day I'll walk for about half an hour, the next, I'll walk for two hours, and do this huge hill that takes about 20 minutes itself just to get up because it's so steep.
Since graduating, I need to keep up with dancing (now that I don't get to dance 5 times a week anymore :(), so I'm either taking jazz or ballet once a week, and my boyfriend and I take ballroom and latin once a week. He and I are also considering getting a pilates DVD and doing some work with that.

If you are having a hard time sleeping, try an over the counter natural medication called melatonin....you can get it at any drug store/pharmacy. Works great and it's not supposed to leave you "needing" it every night.

Good morning!
I am not feeling too well today so I only did a 30 minute walk this morning but I am happy that I fit in some exercise even if it was not for very long. Hopefully I will be feeling better and be able to go out for longer to make up for today.

My plan for today is to work on my resume so I can apply for a publishing job in Toronto. We'll see how that goes:rolleyes:

Everyone sounds like they are doing great. I weighed in at WW today. I stayed the same but I am pleased with that considering that I quit smoking on Monday and have been snacking all week. Nothing too bad but always something. I am going to see how this week goes, hopefully I won't have too much cravings or be so b*t*c*y. I have come up with a back up plan but hope I won't have to use it.
Wish me luck on trying not to :smokin:

Thanks...was quit for 5 days shy of 3 years then took it back up...don't ask...LOL. I wish that I hated it... it would make it easier but I truly enjoy having a cigarette(don't smoke a lot) Oh well I won't stress and I won't beat myself up either. Right now I have made weight loss my priority, just decided to quit smoking so that when in Disney we wouldn't be bothered not smoking there.(don't smoke in the house or in front of kids so figured we wouldn't be doing it in Disney). Like I said hopefully will tackle weight, and smoking at the same time but ain't gonna torture myself.

I'd like to join as well if I can. The problem I have is that I have Hashimoto's disease as well as Fibromyalgia. I am also constantly anemic. The Dr's really don't know what to do with me. I do go to the gym usually about 3 times a week. I go on the treadmill and do weights. I also play baseball. I don't have a lot of room in my stomach so what I did when I bought my new dishes is make sure I had luncheon plates. Those are my plates. I can't have wheat, and can only have a little bit of organic milk. If I want a dessert basically I have to make it. Since I am so busy I don't make desserts very often. I think for me maybe writting everything down will be a help. Also, I really do need to drink more water. I need to cut down on the amt. of sugar I use in my tea. Before I saw this post I had already started to do that so will continue to improve. The funny thing is though that even though my eating didn't change when I joined the gym a year ago and I was going up to 5 times a week my weight steadly went up. I do love veggies but with my system I can not have a lot of salads. I eat as much as I can.

Just returned from Disney; had a wonderful time!! I'm so excited to tell you all that I am the EXACT SAME weight as I was when I left!! We were on the DP and I ate so much! However, we also did lots of walking and swimming in the usual DIS activities; plus my 2 DDs and I did take walks just about every morning. It really helped, b/c I really did enjoy all the food! Now it's going to be hard to get "back on track" as well as having the post-trip blues!!

Everybody is entitled to a cheat day every now and then....deprive yourself of something that you really like, and you are bound to crave it, but giving yourself a cheat day once a week will curb those cravings. I cheat on Sunday...so all week when I see something that I really want to eat, I just remind myself of my success to date, and that Sunday will come sooner then later.
But, congrats on eating a healthy lunch....I had a healthy breakfast and now eating my snack. I ran 5 km and did weights today...now just getting ready for the night shift and will be back at it tomorrow!

Doing better today, so far. Had cereal for bfast and minestrone soup and one of those granola bars for lunch. Going out tonight where there will be dips and dainties:sad2: I got on the scale for a pre weekend check-in because a friend and I are heading to the States for the weekend:cool1: I am actually down, so far, so that made me feel more motivated to keep off what I've accomplished this week. I'd hate to see a gain on Monday. Good luck to everyone for the rest of the week and I'll check-in on Monday:thumbsup2

Yesterday was a BAD day for me. My DD was performing at Hamilton Place last night with her children's choir so we took her out for supper in between the rehearsal and performance. Now I know a plate of nachos was not the best choice for supper but heading on PMS it was the most appealing. I didn't finish it all if that counts for anything;) . Than when we got home my DS had baked a congrats cake for her. So we had to have a piece right before bed. So although half the cake is still in thr fridge I am going to ignore it as it calls my name. Maybe I'll feed it to the kids after breakfast and get it gone:rotfl: .

Everybody has their bad days and it does not sound like you went too overboard. You will probably be better at eating the good stuff for the rest of the week because you allowed yourself to indulge that one day. I find that if I allow myself a guilty pleasure like pizza or chocolate once a week I am much better at making healthy choices the rest of the time as I will not be constantly craving my favourites.

Weighed in at WW this am when I got off work. Lost .0.2....a little disappointed as I thought it might be more, but I always find when I've done nights (51 hrs) in the last week that I don't loose as much. Oh well better than putting it on. Gotta try harder this week!!!!

Well after just reading the last 13 pages I think that I am gonna join this wonderful thread :thumbsup2 Here's my story:
My name is Jen and I am 26 years old from Sydney, NS. I have been trying to lose weight since 2002 and did lose 30lbs in 5 months on WW and then thought I could do it on my own and gained it all back!! Now I am stuck at 150lbs, which for my small framed 5'3" body is not good. :confused3
My main goal is to get fit & in shape and get my weight down to about 110-120lbs. My goal by Christmas is to lose 20lbs (bringing me to 130lbs). My BIG goal is by July 2008 for my 27th birthday and DH & my 3rd trip to WDW in August, so that'll be 20lbs more down. Bringing me to my main oal of weighing 110lbs
Now mind you I have been saying "I'll be 110 Jen by July 15th.." for the past 4 years...let's hope I can do it this time. DH & I want to start tryin to start a family soon and I want to be at my goal weight before we start so it will be easier to lose baby weight!
I will do my official WI's on Monday. I will post my "official" start weight in the am :)
I am so glad that I found this thread :woohoo:
BTW...everyone y'all are doing an amazing job and keep up the great work!!:woohoo: We are all beautiful no matter what we weigh..:cheer2:
Hugs & Smiles all around  :dance3:

Welcome, Ice Princess...and best of luck!! OK everyone, it's been awhile since I checked in. I haven't been keeping up with the weigh-ins since we left for DW. Not sure if you are all weighing in on Suns. or Mons., but I will post tomorrow...and then we'll see how it goes this week. I am continuing to exercise 3-4x/week, and for the past 3 weeks I've been walking just about every day; so that has helped to offset the extra EATING I've also been doing!! Nothing terrible, but not at all as dedicated as before June. I've been status quo with the weight for awhile now, so I want to see some movement! This is my last week of summer vacation coming up, so after this I have absolutely NO excuse. Will check in tomorrow.

I'm back from my trip to States. We had such an awesome time. We didn't have our kids with us. It's amazing how relaxing shopping can be when you are only looking with another adult. My Dd(2) will be 3 tomorrow and she broke her wrist 3 days ago. :sad2: Poor little monkey:love: She's fine and adapting well as children do. I will be weighing in tomorrow. I did not bad considering we were away. Had fries and no desserts but a bit of chocolate and full fat microwave popcorn. I could have done better but fairly pleased with the choices I made in my PMS mode. We'll see tomorrow.

Hey everyone...glad to see so many are doing so well. I haven't checked in for a couple of days. To be perfectly honest, my last few days have stunk. I am not really feeling the greatest, to the point where I just want to curl up and cry. I don't know why I feel so down, but I get like this every now and then. I do blame it on PMS, except it doesn't happen every month, so I don't know why it happens. I take one day off a week from working out, and it usually is Wednesday. So, I took that day off....and it just blew the rest of the week for me. On Thursday, I literally had to PUSH myself just to do the minimum of my workout....and usually, when I start, I realize I can do it, and do it well, but on Thursday, it just wasn't there....again, was feeling really down:guilty: . And I knew Friday would be busy from the time I got up to the time I went to bed, and I was out and about all day and didn't eat great (not terribly, but not great). Saturday, I had to host a get together, and again, there was so much food, and again, I wasn't feeling the energy to try. I personally wanted a big bowl of chocolate ice cream just to feel better, but I couldn't even do that. I ended up eating TERRIBLY last night, despite the fact that I had tons of healthy food as options at the party.
I reserve Sundays for cheat days, as long as I go to the Wilderness center and run...but today, I couldn't do it....my tummy wasn't feeling great from all the yucky food I ate yesterday, and now I feel terribly. I know set backs happen, but I feel like I completely blew it....And today, I again didn't eat very well.
I didn't want to weigh myself because I fear of what the scale will say. I know I shouldn't be so hard on myself, but I literally feel like garbage. My race that I am so desperate to complete is in 4 weeks, and I will be so proud of myself if I can finish it, but right now I am so down on myself for not giving the training my 100%...I fear that I won't be able to finish it, and I have wanted to get into this race for 2 years! And I am not even CLOSE to being even half way ready for it...
Sorry for the rant....I literally am reading this again, and feel the tears building up....I hope I do better this week. I am just SO disappointed in myself and don't know why I'm so down on myself! Hope everyone is keeping up....Joline

I have to drink more water though, I have a wedding to attend on Saturday and my dress shows my little belly...I think I am bloating because of lack of water!!

I agree with you about PMS. I used to gain up to 5 lbs in a bad week and then the day or 2 after my period starts I spend half the day in the bathroom getting rid of all that excess fluid. I really try and make sure I have at least 3 glasses of milk a day, it seems to help reduce the pms symptoms. Thanks for the kind thoughts for my daughter:banana: You're very kind:woohoo:

I am sorry to say that I have not been visiting the DIS boards very often recently and I am just finding this thread now. I have read only a few pages and will take my time reading the rest of the pages.
I have been loosing weight since the first week of June and I have lost 77lbs.:woohoo:
I wanted to share what I have been doing....
I started with a 10 day liquid diet, I did 10 days because I am Morbidly pooh sized. The first three days was full liquids, such a yogurt(light), milk, crystal light, broth (chicken, beef or fish) Tea ( I prefer green tea and if you make it weak you dont need sugar or milk) Oatmeal, low fat soups , sugar free popcicles and sugar free jello. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING...Protein shakes. You need a min of 40 g of protein per day...50 to 70 is better
Then on the 4th day I did clear liquids only for the remainder of the 10 days..so that was tea, broth, Crystal light and protein shakes (mixed with water...not milk)
I lost 35 lbs in those 10 days...sounds like a lot but I weighed 348 lbs...
Then I began eating again I started with Protein water (Stacker2) and gradually added things like milk and soups, and now am eating again but different than I was before.
I Eat protien FIRST at every meal, followed by veggies, then a carb ( fruit) and I usually dont eat the carb. Solid protein is better than liguid protein so things like chicken, fish, beef, cottage cheese, eggs and low fat cheese are good choices.
I NEVER eat anything white....no bread (of any colour), potatoes, rice
I read labels and never eat anything with more than 5 g of fat, or 5 g of sugar. and I try to keep it under 20 g of carbs. (they are hard to get away from) Carbs are bad because they give you a sugar spike and give you the urge to snack. (rice cakes are the perfect example)
I also NEVER drink when I am eating. I wait till at least 60 mins after I eat and stop drinking at least 30 mins before I plan to eat. It pushes the food through too fast and you do not absorb enough nutrients from what you have eaten....therefore you eat more throughout the day. Also liquid takes up room in your stomach, less room for the protien, therefor you dont eat enough.
I have yet to find a protein shake that I enjoy more than a few times, so I have switched to strictly water mixed drinks. I found something at Wal Mart called Good2Go made by Weider. Each serving it individually packaged to be mixed with one bottle of water...kinda like Cristal light singles. Except it wont fit into the bottle so I mix it in a slightly bigger rubbermaid drink bottle. It comes in Lemon Ice tea, pineapple and peach mango and has 20 g of protein per serving I like all three flavours.
I also buy the Stacker 2 protein water...which I also buy at walmart, my fav flavours are sour apple and pink lemonaide. These are also 20 g of protein per bottle. You can also find Stacker 2 at GNC stores but they have 40 g of protein per bottle and are more expensive.
Our bodies can only absorb 20 g of protein at a time so drinking the 40 would be wasting it.
And of course it wouldnt be a diet without water water water.... You should always have a bottle of water in your hand unless its less than 30 mins before or less than 60 mins after a meal. I also drink a lot of green tea, I like the Lipton Mixed berry flavour and the Bigalow Lemon.
So since June 1 I have lost 77 lbs, all my clothes are too big, ( I recently bought new ones) My breasts have deflated and now resemble beaver tails.
But Im Ok with that. We were on vacation last week and it was my idea to hike the trail (very hilly) to the point... we have gone to this same campground every year for 7 years and I couldnt even walk to where the trail started....now I did the whole thing without even getting winded.
OH I have forgotten to mention excersise... To start you need to move for 60 mins. Doesnt matter how fast...go at the pase that works best for you. I choose to walk...I find a route that takes me 60 mins..... ( just walk away from your house for 30 mins then turn around and come back) and when you can do that route in 45 mins.....increase your distance.
I am now swimming laps and doing aquafit..in addition to the morning walk.
You want motivation? when you see results, you want more...thats my motivation, which is why I started with the liquid diet...it gave me results I could see and I was motivated to keep my weight going down.
Well Ive yapped on long enough ......
Ill be keeping up with this thread...

Well I am finally back at home from all my travels and am ready to get back to working out. I happy to report that I did not gain any weight while away but on a sadder note I did not loose any. I hate it when the kids go back to school but it will be nice to be able to go back to curves on a daily basis and be able to eat less because no kids to feed during the day.

Down 1.8 this morning, only 0.2 last week. That makes 11.8 lost since I started WW but a total of 23ls since March..oh well slow and steady win the race.
November I was 215, March 205. When we went to Disney October 2005 I was 226lbs so I guess it's progress!!!
Gotta get more exercise in though. I am ashamed to admit it but I am back on the smokes... although keeping myself from smoking too many, just enough to stop all murderous thoughts....LOL

You are truly an inspiration! Thanks for sharing! My program begins Sept 4 when the kids go back to school. I have pneumonia right now so obviously I am taking it easy. I have cut out all pop and only drink club soda or water with lime now. I use protein to curb hunger and make sure everything I put in my mouth is nutrient dense. I have a lot of food allergies and cannot tolerate any form of artificial sweetener so I have started using stevia and have increased my fibre intake.

Years ago tried, nicorette gum, patch, you name it. Ended up quitting on my own, even when I didn't think I wanted to quit. Right now I believe with all I have going on that until that clears, I won't be able to give it a true effort. I won't smoke in Disney so maybe that will give me a kick start as well. I won't smoke there because we will be with the kids all the time and I don't smoke near them or in front of them so....fingers crossed.

Weighed in this morning and I'm down 3 lbs :woohoo:. Dh has dropped 6 lbs this week. He went to see his Dr. last Monday as a follow up to his physical. It turns out he has borderline high cholesterol and high blood pressure. So he has decided to get serious about his health. It makes it easier to loose weight and be healthy with him on the same page. I managed to do my work out four times this week. So now with DH on board it is a competition, he might have won this week but I'll kick his butt next;) .
Hodder it is really hard to make many life changes at once. You should be very proud of the fact that you are not smoking around your children. It will probably be a lot easier for you to quit at WDW since you won't have the opportunity. As for your weight loss your doing great. Slow and steady is the way to win the race. It's been proven that those that make a gradual reduction are much more likely to keep it off. It usually means that you have made lifestyle changes that you can live with.

Hi all. Weighed myself today and I'm down 1.6 lbs:cool1: That's only .4 lbs if you subtract the pms gain so I'm happy it's a net loss. Now I have 3 wks before I have to deal with pms again so on with the program:banana: way to go Reese:cheer2: Nothing like a little healthy competition to inspire you. My Dd(7) starts school Wednesday so it's back to walking her to and from school. That should help kickstart the workouts.

Girls lets all keep up the good work no matter if up down or had a bad week. I have to admit that when I'm in Disney next week I won't be watching anything but show. I did sign up at WW for another 10 weeks. Bought a dress that fits everywhere but shows some lumps in the hips. I said that I was going to hang it in my room for inspiration for next spring when hopefully I go to Dominican with a couple of girls from work. They have rocking bodies so I want at least a soft rock one.......LOL

I plan on the farthest thing from my mind being my weight while I'm there. I'm hoping after two weeks of free dining I won't be up too much. Also my DD's will be right in the middle of there cross country training so I'll have to make sure we go for a run a few times a week. I figure that with all the walking and cranky child carrying (wrestling:rolleyes1), I'm hoping to stay even or close to it:) .

I will admit that I haven't been here for a week or so because i've been too ashamed of my failures lately with my weight loss....I don't know why that happens to me....I know I can do it, but then one temptation, that's all it takes, and I fall off the wagon. But, I have to stay motivated for the long run....I have my race in 2.5 weeks and I have to stay focused. Then, in November, I am getting a photo shoot done with a professional photographer, and the photos may include a bit of flesh (tastefully, of course). Then, off to WDW in December, and then in May of 2008, we are going to Peurto Rico with a whole bunch of people, and for once in my life, I want to be comfortable in the skin that I'm in and be able to wear a bikini - so ladies, I'm back on the wagon and please, don't let me fall off this time!!!
Anyways, today I went running and went 7.5 km, and on the weekend I went mountain biking (so awesome!!). I hope everyone is doing great - I haven't weighed in for a bit, but I will soon - Talk later!!! Jo

So the kids go back tomorrow and I am sweating, shivering, sweating etc! Sure am glad dh is here to help me get the kids ready for tomorrow. I am looking really forward to starting cuz I am sick and tired of being sick and tired

I love the first line of your post and you hit the nail on the head for me. We're all hear to support each other:woohoo: I know I am my own worst enemy for beating myself up about any kind of "failure".:sad1: It's nice to know there is positive support here and maybe, eventually ,I will start congratulating myself for little accomplishments instead of hoping to hear it from someone else. We are all human and certainly can't be "perfect" all the time. Life gets in the way:laundy: As Hodder says lets keep up the good work:banana: Jo you must be staying somewhat on track if you can run 7.5 km or mi. I would have collapsed after 1 minute. Way to go.:cheer2: :cheer2: I personally am so happy that I finally figured out how to get my weight tracker ticker on here I could eat a big piece of cake:rolleyes1 I mean a rosy red apple:lmao: I really don't want to register a gain so it's a challenge to maintain losses. My sister is also finally back from 2 weeks at the World and we spent all day looking at her pictures and re-living her trip. It's almost like being there:yay:

Jo you must be staying somewhat on track if you can run 7.5 km or mi. I would have collapsed after 1 minute. Way to go.
I've been running for years, although I do not consider myself to be an athlete at all. I would never win any metals or trophys....I am not that good at sports, in fact, I'm kind of clutsly, and I complain alot while doing it....But, the first time I crossed a finish line, I was SO happy and SO proud of myself, and I only now push myself a little bit more each time. I got a picture of my first finish line cross from my best friend - I looked SO happy....My race in a couple of weeks is going to be the hardest race yet. It is the hardest to get into in all of Canada, and apparently, it is really hard, but absolutely beautiful as it's run through the mountains. And, it starts going uphill....so, I have a hard run ahead of me, but I already know that the second I cross that finish line I will be crying tears of joy - and I am happy that my BF will be there as my cheerleading team! I have strict training when I'm getting ready for a race, and with the race being Sept 22, I am in full training mode. I have to run a minimal of 30 km a week, and so far this week, I am at 10, so not doing too badly. I have to run at least 10 km on Thursday to appease my doubts about me entering this run.
Anyways, today I had a good day so far....ate my squirly bread with diabetic peanut butter and sugar free jam and then raspberries on top of that. I did hill training today on the treadmill (only for 10 minutes - it's an easy cardio day) and did the weights today.
My motivation this week came in the form of weights - I bought a new weight system for the house, and they are AWESOME - way better than any gym - plus, I don't have to share them with anybody! Well, I guess my BF can use them if he's nice ;)
Anyways - thanks for the motivation ladies....I really needed it - I was really down there for a while so I hope that as the weeks progress I can continue my success - I really want to succeed at this. Thanks again - Jo

I don't have a website I use fir recipes but I modify the recipes I do use. A few of the things I do is fry in broth or water. Veggies with chicken broth are great. When I'm frying meat I keep water handy and add a little as needed instead of oil. Another thing I found just recently works great is no fat cottage cheese. I smush it up with a fork until it's mostly smooth. I use this instead of cream in when I'm making soup. I also sub half of the cheese in mac and cheese with this. It really helps to up the protien in food.

Lost 2 lb. last week, but was up 1 lb. this a.m. Could be because we had a barbecue yesterday & I ate chips, dips, and a hot dog! Hopefully that lb. will be gone in a few days when I can finally get rid of all the salt!! Girls, don't worry about gaining while you're at the World. We were there in August & I was determined to enjoy myself & not worry about dieting. I thoroughly enjoyed each meal (even had small bits of desserts), and I stayed exactly the same weight. We walked A LOT, and I'm sure that really helped. Just relax & enjoy yourselves; you can think about it again when you return! I'm envious!!!!

I lost another lb. this week; good, but not great. I'd like to lose 30 more, but I NEED to lose at least 20 or 25. Trying to keep it coming off at a slow but steady rate; we'll see.

Hoping I can join up with you guys!
My Story:
I have never been a thin person. Before I went to university, I was happy with my body and comfortable with myself. Then I started to gain weight.
By the time I graduated, I had gained 30 pounds to which I added 20 more during my first year of my first real job. That's when I finally stepped on a scale and realized I was almost 200 pounds! :scared1: Something had to change. So, I ate between 1000-1200 calories a day and exercised incessantly for 3 months and lost 40 pounds. I was happy with myself again and could wear my size 8 jeans! :cheer2:
Then I lost my job (I quit, it's a long story). I gained 25 pounds. It was not good.
Then I got married. My hubby and I were on very different schedules and I would use my time workout until my body protested and not eat (again). I lost 30 pounds in three months! :cheer2:
Then we started to try to have a baby. Three miscarriages and no baby. However, I did gain back all the weight I had lost (I was at 195 pounds). My husband also joined me by gaining almost as much as I had.
So, here I am starting over in so many ways. I am not going to try to lose it all as fast as I did before. I am going to start to make exercise part of my everyday rountine and fun. So far, I have lost 18 pounds since January. Not a huge amount in that kind of time frame (what is that like a quarter pound a week?).
I am in this for the long haul. I would like to lose 15 more before March break when I am going back to 'the World.' Then we are going to start trying again to make this baby thing happen.
Fifteen pounds in six months. I can do this, right?
No dieting. Just smart eating (and occasionally cheating :dance3: ) and exercise to make me a healthy me.
Can't do the binge and purge thing for the rest of my life.
Funny, this has been harder than the diets (and they were diets!) above.

I hope you don't mind, I would also like to join in. I have been pooh sizes for the last 12 years...since having kids. Also having a stressful job and using food to cope didn't help. I have tried and failed too many times to count. I started my quest to get healthier in march of this year. I have had alot of neck problems partially from my job and partially from the excess weight I carry on my front. So I started WW again on my own and was doing great down 10 lbs in a month, then a friend at work told me about sparkpeople.com. It is a free website that is truely amazing. I am down a total of 39 lb today. The website has a nutritional tracker, motivational and educational emails and teams to join and loads of free recipes. There is one team for disboards-disney aholics. The thing that I think that is so different with sparkpeople is the information that you get on the site and email. Gradually you start to change the way you eat and the way you think about food. No fad diets just healthy eating. They teach you that this is something that you have to do for the rest of your life, so you have to find a way to be happy doing it. So if that means having a treat to keep you on track its OK! There are NO forbidden foods. Moderation!!!!
I think the hardest part for me was getting rid OLD "I'm on a diet mentality" and feeling like a failure if I ate something "BAD" and then the binge would insue because I already wrecked that day and then how long would it take me to get back on track.
Now I have been on the healthy lifestyle for 5 1/2 months. My goal was to loose 60 lb before my disney trip in Nov. I don't think I will make it but I am ok with that because I have come so far. I have had to go shopping for new clothes because mine where too BIG!!! What a nice feeling. I have more energy and feel great about myself. I have along way to go but I feel confident that I will reach my goal in due time. The changes if my life have happened gradually so I know they will stick.
I really can't say enough about sparkpeople and how my life has changed. If you have time, check out the site. You can follow their meal plan or just log in your own. If you need help feel free to pm me.
Keep up the good work. Try not to get frustrated when you only go down 0.5 or 1 lb because they all add up in the end. I tell people that I nickel and dimed it but now I am almost at 40. Slow and steady wins the race!!!

Neonurse and Perfect Paranoia~ WELCOME!!! We're definitely in this thing together. I was always up and down, up and down...lose a lot, gain a lot... a vicious cycle. Now I am losing by eating healthier and increasing my exercise.
It's not always fast, but I must say that what I've lost seems to be staying off more easily (even when I have my "bad" days or weeks). I, too, see it as a way of life; and with that mindset, it's more positive motivation. Just think about how much better off we are physically with even a little bit of the weight off.
Sometimes it gets frustrating when the scale doesn't seem to want to move, but in the long run it's so worth it. So glad you're joining us! It really does help to have the support.

I've always been chubby but lately I've really been a slug. I'm single , no kids, mid 40's and other than working I nap alot..Not great on the healthy lifestyle here.:confused3 some nurse I am!
I just started taking my second hi blood pressure pill today. (strong family history of hi BP and heart disease) I'd like to lose weight to look good in a swim suit for that June WDW trip :cool1: but I would like to see the BP go down.
Tomorrow I start ice skating for exercise.. Whoo.. alot on the go.

Restful urchin- Check out sparkpeople.com its FREE!!! Having done WW before several times somehow the info emails and logging in food everyday as well as the teams you can join on SP really do help keep you motivated. You and your friend could join the same team. They have weekly weigh ins. A friend of mine at work just join WW and paid for it all upfront thinking this would make her go...but it didn't. She was doing well for a few weeks but is off now and wasted all that $$$. The key with weight loss success is to maintain the momentum and motivation and you will find that on sparkpeople.com. You could always try it for a couple of weeks and if you don't find it helpful then go to WW. On the other hand you may love SP and can save that $14 ($56/month) a week for disney.:teacher:
I am a nurse too. For me the napping alot came from shift work and simple carbs (quick high sugar and quick low). Now that I try to stay away from simple sugars I feel so much better. All bran snack bites are a good sweet fix with 5 gr of fiber so you don't get that high/low feeling. If I do treat myself I alway eat it with a meal and I feel so much better. I have problems with low blood sugars and this has helped alot.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
You can do this!!! If I can ANYONE can.

Talk about a motivator!!! When you first start SP it takes a bit of time to set everything up but once you get some regular food items in your favorites it gets much quicker to log your food. :surfweb: Give me a pm if you need some help. I am starting 12 h nights (4 of them) tomorrow so I will be awal for a bit.:hourglass

I really need these pounds to get lost so to speak!!
