Disney announces another year of a million dreams

As Walt Disney World moved from the millennial "2000 Celebration" to Walt Disney's birthday "100 Years of Magic" celebration to Disneyland's 50th anniversary "Happiest Celebration on Earth" to this year's "Year of a Million Dreams," it seems the celebrations almost never end.

With four major celebration/promotional campaigns spanning most of the past eight years, the obvious question is: what's next?

How about another year of another million dreams.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has decided to extend its popular "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion through the end of 2008, spokesman Rick Sylvain announced. The program is highlighted by daily, numerous giveaways of prizes, which can be as simple as FASTPASS tickets or seats on parade floats, or as grand as around-the-world vacation packages or a night in Cinderella Castle. All are awarded to randomly selected visitors.

Since the "Year" debuted in October 2006, the campaign has been credited by everyone from local park officials to Walt Disney Co. President Bob Iger with helping drive a strong and steady surge in customers at Disney World's four theme parks over the past year or so.

"This has been a huge success with our guests and our cast members. To date, more than 846,000 dreams have been awarded to our guests at Walt Disney World and at Disneyland," Sylvain said. "We expect to hit a magical one million dreams late next month."

"Because it has so resonated with guests, Year of a Million Dreams has helped drive a strong year for Disney Parks and Resorts," Sylvain said.

Word went out earlier this month to Walt Disney World pass holders.

The campaign has garnered Disney widespread, localized publicity from hometown media whenever someone has been selected for one of the big prizes, such as when an Ohio family won the right to have the Magic Kingdom theme park all to themselves one morning.

There may be new wrinkles coming. Sylvain said he couldn't yet provide details of the next Year of a Million Dreams, but said they had "plans for exciting new awards in 2008."

Do you suppose they will need that "Ohio family" to kick off the second year? I'll have to let them know that we are available! ;)

I'm so happy about the extension.:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Especially since we are going to be there in Dec. and again in March with a possibility of maybe even getting a trip in next June.

Myself and dd won a YOAMD extra magic hour at MK when we were there in June. I would love to win something when we are there in December because my mom is going this trip and it will be her first real vacation since we went to WDW 11 years ago.

Hey...you've had your turn...it is time for your Indiana neighbors to get in on the action!! I do not think anyone else has "caught-on" yet by reading the responses so far! Now, wish me luck...:rotfl:

My bet is that eventually they'll change the name to Disney Dreams Come True or something and leave it as a promotion forever. What else are they going to do with the suite in Cinderella's castle?

Hi! Just wanted to say "hello", can you believe it's been almost a year already. Wow, time flys. I was on Mainstreet that morning when your family arrived and it was incredible so happy to share such an incredible moment with you. Coming back to the parks anytime soon? :thumbsup2

Hey...thanks for making our morning so special! DH and I just watched the video clip the other night. I can not believe that it has been almost a year. I can tell you that it is still so much fun for us to talk about...my kids will just randomly comment all time! Like...Hey, do you remember when we went in the back door at Test Track and just got on the ride?...
DS and I were talking the other day about meeting Darth Vadar and how that just made his whole day!
Of course, the "surprise" on Main St. is the highlight of all memories! ;)
I am still amazed at how quiet you all were...where were you all hiding?

We are hoping to get back this year for Thanksgiving...I am in withdrawal and need a Disney fix! :wizard:

I saw your family on tv the day you were on Main Street and it all brough tears to my eyes. I hadn't joined the DIS but I was a lurker when you first posted your trip report and I cried through the whole thing! What an AMAZING experience!! Such wonderful memories for you and your family! I enjoyed every video clip and everything I read online and all the photos, it was like WOW stuff like this can happen to "real" people! Thanks for sharing it all then and I hope you get back to WDW soon!

I'm glad that you enjoyed my trip report...I have to admit it was a little daunting to attempt, because I really wanted to convey just how incredible the entire experience was and I wanted to give all the cast members the recognition that they deserved! The attention that they showered on us really is what made the trip so special! :cloud9:

I was amazed to hear that you all got up THAT early to greet us...a family "from the middle of nowhere", as my DS has labeled us...

Thanks a million! :flower3:

In my opinion I am disappointed that they are extending the "Year Of A Million Dreams". I really like to go every year and see the new theme and new merchandise. Now, it will be the same thing (again). This my sound like im a sore loser but, seriously I really counted on Disney to have a new theme. Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with it for another year.

I'm so, so happy that they're extending the Year of a Million Dreams through 2008. My boyfriend and I are going for the first time next May and I was a bit bummed that we would miss it. It seems like it's so much fun to see people winning, and to have the possibility of winning something yourself. I can't wait!

I'm glad they are extending it too since we'll be back a few times next year to see if we can have anything "extra" added to our trip. Our trips are already magical but extra would always be wonderful. I had a dream come true this year, my DH let us buy into DVC!! Didn't even have to be in Disney for that! I would love the chance to sleep in the castle and more DVC would be awesome too! I would take anything and be very happy with it, I'm not greedy!

Hmmm...I'm 50/50 for next year!

I suppose I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not anticipating winning anything at all, as I'm not usually a very lucky person, so if we do win anything whilst we're there, then that'll be a bonus :)

Then the other part of me was looking forward to having a 'special year' of something else, that not everyone's going to have a share in (selfish it may seem, but I bet the people booking this year thought that YOMD was just for their trip this year, if you know what I mean!) It would have been nice to know that we were there in 'that' year's celebrations...not the extention of the previous years one!

Still, as someone above mentioned, a cracking money spinner for Disney!

I am 50/50 on this one too. I was lucky enough to go during the YOAMD and win lanyards, but would love an opportunity to win a stay in the castle. I would have liked to have seen another theme such as Mickey's 80th birthday is this coming year and I guess they have overlooked it?:confused3

Does anyone have an idea when they will announce the dreams for this year's contest? I know they are going to be running out by next month or so.
