First time back on computer in days. We got hit with a killer ice storm. I mean this literally since a well loved professor from our University was killed on Thursday as he cleared the ice and snow from his driveway - a very large tree branch fell on him and killed him. His son was in the car waiting for him, and saw his dad get killed. It's been a very difficult couple of days in our city as many people were without food and heat, flooded basements and thousands of tree branches on cars and homes. 20,000+ of us were without power until yesterday afternoon, and a few hundred more are still without power today - that's over 56 hours without power! It was very eerie as the city was in total darkness for a couple of hours - no traffic lights and it was foggy! Needless to say, our city was a mess, but the emergency crews have been incredible and our city is beginning to return to normal. All schools were closed yesterday and many businesses were as well as most of the city was without power for a long time. They haven't begun to estimate the millions of dollars in damage since they are still cleaning up. Needless to say, lots of Disney Monopoly games were being played over the past several days! Seriously, it made us all realize how many things we take for granted - especially yearly trips to Disney World. As for today, our weather today is beautiful and so most of the ice is beginning to melt. It doesn't look anything like it has over the past few days - unfortunately the loss of life that was suffered will be a lasting reminder of our terrible storm. I must say that it is great to be back online though as it has been a tough couple of days.

I heard on the news about your professor, that is so sad, especially for his children. We here in Hamilton, woke to the freezing rain so they closed the schools, there were a couple of dealths here to people who were shovelling their snow from the day befores snow storm, one guy was 37, wow.
How do you heat your homes if the power is off, I have birds in my home that would die if the temp gets too low,
Lets hope this is the only storm of our winter and we head into spring in a few weeks.
Bye,
Deb.

Gosh, that is so sad! I didn't hear about that tragedy. :(
Glad to hear that it's getting better weather-wise, and that you have your power back up! Take care!

Yes I too read about that poor man....how sad.:( As cottontail said we too had a bad bout with freezing rain etc. but thank goodness nowhere near as bad as some. I knew that this nice warm weather was too good to be true, but let's think this way....winter is half over and Wiarton Willy says so..... early spring for us!!! LOL;) :bounce:

Here in Chatham, we got the ice storm too, although I don't think quite as bad as some others did. I did see many fallen tree branches, and when driving I had a very large chunk of ice fall off of overhead hydro wires onto the room of my van. Much of Windsor was without power during the course of this and a small number of houses in Chatham. Hopefully we only get snow for the rest of the winter!

Nice to meet another Windsorite - there are a few of us here! Isn't it great that things are starting to return to normal in our city? I can't believe that there are a few people still without power. Hopefully we have seen the last of winter for awhile.
