I just wish you could chose appetizer OR dessert. I like dessert-- but love appetizers and they help so much when you are dining with kids! Sort of keeps them happy until dinner comes! Plus we find our DD6 usually loves the food offered and eats it as part of her meal. Oh well.... I guess it doesn't matter if you do buffets or famliy style character meals.

We soooo agree with this. I don't really eat more than a bite of a dessert but our family likes to have an appetizer. So we could use MY option for appetizer and then DH and DD could order dessert. I wonder once we get there in March '08 if they might have started this option????

I think that's really the reason why there isn't a choice: Practically everyone would make the other choice! I suspect people are far more likely to spring for a salad with dinner in cash than pay the higher in-restaurant prices for ice cream (as compared to getting ice cream outside the restaurant -- lower price, no gratuity!)

Agree with Bicker. Offering the free dessert instead of appetizer offers two possibilities for upselling:

1) The appetizer
2) Drink with dessert

I am leaving in 18 days and have never used the dining plan before. I read somewhere (could have been this board, or another site) that you could get your appetizer or dessert wrapped up to go. I am bringing the ziploc plastic containers (not baggies) to put whatever we don't feel like eating in and saving for a snack later.

There is now a sticky thread stuck to the top of the board for all DDP discussions, here is the link to the 2008 DDP discussion, questions, rants and vents (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=20127863#post20127863).
Thanks,
