Hi All,
Just want to get some 2nd opinion on my 'dead' Canon Powershot S230.

This morning, when I turn on the camera, the LCD was all flicky, I took a picture thru the view finder but the replay showed flicky as well. I replay some pics from memory and they showed fine so my guess the camera sensor is gone. Given the camera is 5 years old, I don't think it's worth fixing. Very strange as camera was fine last night, then this morning it's dead :confused3

Anybody sent a P&S back to Canon? How much did it cost to repair?

TIA

Sue

There is a recall on that camera's sensor. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=223&modelid=8044&keycode=2112&id=29819

It usually only affects cameras kept in moist environments, but your problem sounds just like the recall. I had both an A70 and a S1 replaced through this recall. They sent me an A520 and a S2 in their place.

Kevin, Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond to this thread. Today I received a refurbished SD630:thumbsup2

I really didn't expect a replacement given it's 5 years old! Also when I first spoke to Canon support, the guy walked me through resetting the camera and the sensor worked after resetting. He still recommended that I send it for review so I did fully expecting them to review perhaps clean it and send it back. So was very surprised to get a replacement today:thumbsup2

Canon is #1 in my book!!
