I just can't decide. I originally thought about going to NY this year, because I was only going to have 1 week off work. I really want to go to the US and I've never been to NY so why not. In the mean time I've worked some bank holidays so now it turns out I should be able to take 2-2,5 weeks of holidays. So my first thought was to include Washington and perhaps Philadelphia to the list. But now I'm doubting if I should go back to WDW in stead... I know I would relax much more. But I've already been so many times and a 3 week Orlando holiday in september 2008 is planned already as well. Then there's the option of combining the 2, but somehow that doesn't appeal much to me. Who can give me tips?

Have you thought of going to WDW and then looking at the price of internal flights to NY from Orlando?
You can then take a few days out to fly up to NY and then back to Orlando for the remainder of your holiday.

Just looked on Expedia and a round trip internal flight to NY from MCO is $153 (~£80) in September.

Tim's suggestion is a good one and something we have considered.
I think it's a difficult one because NY and Orlando are totally different, personally we prefer a Florida holday, not just WDW, as we like to travel around too.
Don't think I could go to NY and other big cities for the whole holiday, a short break for 3 or 4 days would appeal more.

I actually come from Belgium, which means I usually go through NY anyway (there's no direct flight from Brussels to Orlando). So I could make a stop at NY for the same airfare price. But for some reason combining the 2 just doesn't appeal to me.

I had a long weekend in NY and that was enough for me but if you add other places that could make a nice holiday, plus there are beaches near NY for some relaxing.
Or to through in another idea have you thought of the west coast? You can get a Disney/Universal fix then as well as visting some new places if you've not done that already of course).

Yes, I was at the west coast last year. Missed San Francisco though.
I could also visit Boston or Niagara Falls. Don't think I'll be bored. It will be cold though, as I'll be going in October, November or December.

DH and I were lucky enough to have a kid free (5 night) break to NYC this Feb. It was cold but the best trip I've ever had.
We did a lot. Most of it via foot, sometimes via cab. We did one subway journey but there aren't too many wheelchair friendly routes so we were limited in that respect. Anyway, here's a breakdown of what we did.....
Friday PM Arrive. Explore. Eat Sleep.
Saturday. Visted Rockefeller Plaza and Top of the Rock Observation Deck. You are outside 60+ floors up. Do it during the day for a jaw dropping view!
Shopped at a Japanese bookstore and the Nintendo World Store.
Sunday. Little neighbourhood exploring before a matinee of Broadway show Hairspray. Explored 5th Avenue before heading up for an evening jaunt up The Empire State Building. Beautiful at night.
Ate at Ollie’s Noodle Bar & Grill on W 44th St, Bet Broadway & 7th Ave and then Junior's (in an alley opposite the Shubert Theatre.) Miss the cheesecake at your peril.
Monday. Visited the Mertopolitan Musuem of Art, wandered round Central Park and explored 5th Avenue some more. Tiffany and Co too. Check out the humungous World of Disney store on 5th Avenue and 55th St.
Tuesday. Explored Greenwich village, shopped and then off to Madison Sqauare Garden for Basketball with NY Knicks and Orlando Magic!
Wednesday Got on the FREE Staten Island Ferry for a view of Lady Liberty. More time at CP, ate at Carnegie's Deli and then an evening flight home
:sad2:
Buy The New York Mapguide: The Essential Guide to Manhattan. It's pocketsized, light, and brilliant.

We flew with Continental Airlines and they were fantastic!

Thanks for the info! World of Disney would be first thing to explore :) . And then the next morning Statue of Liberty. Have been wanting to see it for such a long time now. If I do this trip in Ocober i might be able to add an extra city trip to Scandinavia somewhere in December!

I actually also considered combining NY with a week of Disney Cruise Line, but that would be expensive esp. since I'm going solo.

We have combined a trip to NYC with Orlando and, as you potentially have 2 1/2 weeks available, it's definitely an option. The internal flights are generally very reasonable - I think we paid around £40. We actually prefer Washington DC to New York, though, so that's something for you to consider :) .

I love WDW, but if you are going there next year then I would go to NYC. NYC is good for a long weekend max a week. How about a 2 centre holiday 10 nights in Orlando 3-4 nights in NYC. Great combination if not try seeing NYC, California etc. Although this might work out expensive.

we always enter and leave the US via new york, so once the kids were in their teens we started making a 3 day stop in new york and it's spectacular...
we do it on our way out.....not in, because we're all too anxious to get to WDW....
so our last 3 days are in NYC...
we always stay at the waldorf towers just because it's in walking distance of everything we want to see....
we manage quite a bit during those 3 days....
we always see 3 broadway musicals, we always go to the American Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum and MOMA, and of course there's lots and lots and lots and lots of walking, plus several outstanding restaurants....and some sightseeing on the double decker open topped bus...
we always have a great time...oh yes, we also always take a walk through the central park zoo (and central park as well)...
we manage to cram a lot into those 3 days...

regarding DC - it's a very nice place to visit as well....
not in the same way as new york, but with lots of interesting places to see....
the Air and Space Museum is great.....the zoo is nice...
and of course all the historical sites are beautiful (the mall, the washington monument, the reflecting pool, the lincoln memorial, the vietnam memorial, the jefferson memorial, the capital, the library of congress - one of my favorites....i did all of my research for my dissertation there...a fabulous and beautiful place, etc etc etc etc..
my husband is from DC and i spent several years in the vicinity....it definitely is at the top of any of the US tourist attractions.....
