Me (Mandy) - 43 - Searching for some Bahama Mamas
DH (Paul) - 42 - Searching for some peace and quiet
DD1 (Kerry 16) & DD2 (Becky 14) - Searching for Hollister Stores

Friday 13th July

We had spent the night at the Travelodge at Manchester Airport, and had done night before check-in with MyTravel. We had arranged the ‘Meet & Greet’ service where a chauffeur would come and pick the car up from outside the terminal. Due to all the added security measures at the airport, we had to meet our guy on the 13th floor of the short stay car park at Terminal 1. We left the car around 8am, and went to pick up our boarding cards and then we went straight through to passport control and the departure lounge.

The time flew by, we had a full English breakfast and had a wander around the duty free shops. I bought Paul some Dolce & Gabbanna 'Light Blue' aftershave (very nice) and he bought me a ring (just a cheapy - I'm easily pleased :rotfl: ), then we had a couple of Smirnoff Ice’s at the bar (woohoo !! the holiday has started).

We began boarding around noon and took off on time just before 1pm. (By the way we were at the airport so early due to our flight time being changed several times during the week before we flew, and we'd already arranged a meet time for our car).

The flight was uneventful, the movies didn’t look very interesting, I think the only one I remember being on was DreamGirls, and I didn’t fancy that, so I read a book all flight and the time went by quite quickly.

The food was the usual ‘flight-food’, we were given chicken (about the size of a mini griddler) a roast potato (about the size of a sugar cube) and a few carrots and green beans along with the usual cream cheese and crackers, bread roll and banoffee cream dessert, which I had 2 off, then promptly dropped one down me (message to self – pack a bib for mum next time).

Duty free came round and Paul bought me a set of 4 mini J-Lo perfumes and then an hour before landing we were given a warm snack, a slice of pizza, which wasn’t too bad.

We landed around 5ish, and one plane landed just before us, so Immigration was packed. While we waited to see our Immigration Officer, I noticed he looked quite stern, so I told the girls not to mess around. When we were called over, he started looking at our passports and he asked Paul to pull the serious face that he had on his passport, I told him if he thought that was bad he should look at mine as I looked like something from the Adams Family. Next he called Morticia over (cheeky so & so), then he called Kerry (though he didn’t say anything to tease her) and then finally he called Becky who was having her finger prints taken for the first time. Then he started teasing her saying that she was wanted all around Europe on drugs charges and that she’ll get better ones over here. Paul and I were laughing so much, but the humour was lost on Becky as she hadn’t got a clue what he was going on about.

As soon as we left Immigration, our suitcases were one of the first to come out and we went off to pick our car up from Alamo and we were on our way out just after 6pm

On our way to the Pop Century we drove through a huge storm and I was worrying how busy check-in would be at the Pop as it felt quite late. Thankfully check-in was empty so we walked to the front of the desk.

We had sent a fax 3 days before requesting a ground floor room in the 90’s building by the Computer pool, and we were lucky to get a room next door to the room we had at Christmas.

Our first meal was Chicken Strips and Cheeseburgers with fries from the food court. The girls were shattered, so they settled down for the evening and Paul & I went off to Wal-Mart to get the usual Mountain Dew, Oreo’s, Lays Chips and water.

I think we were all in bed by 10pm

Mandy, great start.

We are staying at the traveldoge and using cps meet & greet parking at Manchester for the first time, it never dawned on me that we might not be able to drop the car off at the terminal.

great start, i was wondering you said you sent a fax requesting a certain room, did you have to paid any extra for that, or did you already have a "preferred room" requeted and just narowed it down furthur or just a "standard room"?

Lovely report Mandy. And I think I can see into the future you will visit Mall at Millennia and the Florida Mall.:) Strange Hollister clothes must be the in thing. My eldest wanted to get some after seeing people wear them last year so earlier this month that is what we did too. Youngest bought some and the hubbie (eldest not too impressed with this though:) said only under 25s wear them). The eldest bought the shop out I think! I was just thankful at the Mall at Millennia the Apple Store was right next door so I had a browse on the net, men and their clothes I don't know.:rotfl: , dragged me shopping there for hours.

Hi Mandy

Finally getting round to starting reading your trippies! Great start, pleased to hear that the flight was uneventful and that you got checked in easily to the Pop - I can't wait to be back there  It's so nice that you got a friendly customs officer.
