Count us in too! Just decided last night to go back to WDW next May  Due to DSs' school/college finals/exams schedule, we're currently looking at May 18 - 23, at the Polynesian resort.
At this point, I'd just like to see what the new 2008 rates will be! LOL I'm also wondering if they'll be offering the AAA rates right away or not? :confused3 I'd like to at least get the AAA discount, if not an AP or general-use discount, closer to May. :cool2:

  I'm having some huge debates in my head whether to go in May or June. Can anyone tell me what Memorial Day crowds are like?? My theory is that going in May as opposed to June will be less people since there is still a majority of kids in school in May compared to June. Here is where my dilemma falls... DBF and I have our college graduation May 17th. My sister has her high school graduation June 7th. And Memorial Day weekend falls inbetween there. UNLESS we go May 27th (day AFTER memoral day) into the first week of June :confused3 Would that even make a difference? Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated

When do the Star Wars Weekends usually start and end? Thanks :)
Well, for the last few years they seemed to start around the 2nd weekend of May and end about the last weekend of May or first one in June. Sometimes they'll add an extra week or so on the end. But this year they changed it to all weekends in June. It seems that the change was to avoid conflict with SW 30th anniversary things going on in California, but nobody seems to know for sure if they're putting it back in May or keeping it in June next year. Maybe they don't even know yet? I'm thinking that in general since May is a slower time, they like to do more special events to get people into the parks then, and don't really need extra things to get people there in June. So I'm betting on May, but who knows???

This next trip will be our first for May - in the past we've done October and February. Wondering for those who have done May before, how far in advance did you book? I'm not keen on booking now so early. We'll want the AKL, standard room with pool view.
Thanks for any help!!

We were there this past May 12-19 and had a GREAT trip! I tried to talk my husband into going back in Dec for some holiday festivities, but he wouldn't budge, so it'll be mid-May again for us!
To answer PP, I think last time I booked around Dec/Jan, then was able to apply a code when it came out. I booked, changed, and re-booked the trip so many times (AAA vs AP vs code) my husband swore we would not even have a room when we got there. And we'll be staying at AKL too - standard room with fingers crossed for a free savannah upgrade as was the case for our last 2 trips. :goodvibes Still not sure about DDP - we did without it up until now, and I'm not sold on the changes for next year. Plenty of time to decide I suppose...
And I'm probably in the minority, (and I know this sounds selfish) but I'm hoping that SWW stay in June only. We had really nice low crowds during our last trip.

We are planning on going again in 2008 probably arount the 18th and staying 6 nights. I have AAA for this visit, I went This year in May without it. Can anyone tell me the best way to book with the discount? I see that there are codes at times but I don't know what the codes are or how to get them.
I am taking my DD and her 2 children as well as my 10 y/o son so need to save all I can, especially with the changes in the DDP this year. Two of the children will be over 10 and counted as adults but I checked the prices on what we would spend OOP and I think the DDP is still a better deal unless I want to leave the resorts which I don't!
We are thinking of staying at the POR so we can get the trundle bed and can all 5 be in 1 room. I really want to stay at a WDW resort, p;an to relax and park the car until time to check out!:)

May 1st is our arrival date also. I can't decide whether we should book the DDDP or pay OOP & eat at the nicer restaurants that don't accept the dining plan. We're wanting to stay in an Epcot area resort, but haven't decided which one. Naturally, if we choose S/D, we won't be able to book the dining plan anyway. You shouldn't have any trouble changing if a code comes out with either a regular travel agent or AAA. I have the best luck with contacting Disney Reservations directly. If you get a good one, it seems like they will dig around to see if you can get a good deal.
As for booking a room only or package...unless there is a good promo going on, it all seems to add up to the same price whichever way you book it.

:) Is any one keeping a list of who is going/when and where??? If not, I'd be happy to maintain a list??? Perhaps as a separate post... I may have missed it if one exists, if so, please point me there ;)
If not, I'll just scan this list and and create one? Let me know!

i just recieved 3 quotes from 3 different sources and they were all the same why bother shopping around if every one has the same prices
If you go w/ an experienced Disney TA, the advantage is that they will know the special promos & GP codes as soon as they come out and apply them to your trip. If you go on your own, by the time you find out about a code, it may be sold out.
Sherri--I think the idea of maintaining a list of who's going when in May would be fab! I would love to keep my eye out for fellow dissers!
We will be there May 3-11, ASMo for the first 6 nights, and then switching to WL if we can get a decent discount....although now that I've been dreaming about WL, I may not have the self control to tell myself "only with a discount!"

Last year a 40% code came out for select dates in May. We paid about 49$ a night over at Sports.. :thumbsup2 But while at disney we fell in love with the beach and yacht club.. its :scared1: for price so unless a code comes out or I can book thru my timeshare for about 199$ a week.. we'll be going back to the values for awhile!

I have a reservation for POP for May 29 - June 2, but I am now considering going May 15 - May 19. I am traveling alone with my 3 year old, so I am mostly concerned with decreased crowds. His birthday is June 2, which was the reason for my original date, but now I am thinking the earlier date may be better as school is still in session for most. Any suggestions?

I was there last year this EXACT time may 29 thru june 6 2007. crowds were great.. Gays days is usually around this time and we also got hit with star wars weekend AND the flower and garden show.. you'll just need to plan your days around weekends and days like that.. for the most part we NEVER waited more than 20 minutes for a ride (okay except for dumbo.. WHY OH WHY did my daughter want to wait almost an hour to go on that??) I'm really thinking this is better for us than October plus we'll save almost 1k by not having to pay for our son and NO i'm NOT cheating the system he'll turn 3 June 24th :thumbsup2

we're actually going april 27 - may 2. we rented points at SSR for those 5 nights, but i want to add on another night with my AP rate. can't wait for january/february to see what that rate will be!
i'm an AP newbie and have a few questions.
1. what's the "usual" AP rate for DVC resorts this time of year? the night we're adding is a friday night if that makes a difference (may 2nd).
2. the only blackouts they have are around holidays, right?
2. should i go ahead and book a room at SSR at the regular "disney" price just to be safe? i wasn't sure if they actually have to rebook the room when i call with the AP code or if they just take my existing reservation and change the price.
thanks.......sorry to bog down the thread with questions. i figured you guys would know! :goodvibes

I don't think anyone ever answered your questions.
1. The last few discounts have been $110 off per night, but I don't remember about that time of year, specifically.
2. There are no blackout dates for a regular AP, only Florida Resident AP and/or seasonal passes.
3. If you really want that night, I would go ahead and book it. If a discount comes out, they do NOT apply it to the existing reservation, but if they have that same type room available at the discount, they will re-book it and apply what you have paid and refund the difference. If you have AAA maybe they have AAA room avail, doesn't hurt to ask.

my understanding is if you go ahead and book, then the AP rates come out later, you just call them and they will take your AP rate and refund you the difference. if you're booking a whole package (room, park tickets and/or DDP), it only costs $200 down anyway and you don't have to pay the balance until 45 days out from your reservation. if you're booking a room only right now, then i think they charge you one night's rate when you book and then you pay the balance later. hope that helps!

i have a question for you code-watchers about how the AP rate works.
i'm an AP holder. i'm not going to be using the AP rate (if there's one offered) because i'm renting DVC points for our april/may 2008 trip. however, my friend may end up booking POFQ and then using my AP rate if they're released for our dates. (i can apply my AP rate for a friend as long as i'm there at check-in.) anyway, my question is if she books the room at the regular rate now, then they come out with AP rates later, can she call back and get the rate changed or does it have to be me? if it has to be me, should i be the one making the ressie in the first place?
sorry this is sort of off topic. just wondering.......figured you guys would know!

Only the AP holder can get the discount.. make the ressie..check in..also with his/her name as staying in the room. BTW... POFQ was not one of the resorts offering AP discounts this past fall, it was POR though. Yes, YOU (the AP holder) can call back later to get the AP rate if available.

it was my understanding that i can share my AP discount with friends/family as long as i made the ressie and was there at check-in. so are you saying i have to be staying in the room, as well? i hope i'm reading that incorrectly! thanks for the info, by the way!

We've never been to a P&PP. What makes them so great? We enjoyed the MNSSHP, but thought MVMCP was a nightmare the last time we went to them. However, we went to those solely to enjoy the special holiday activities. We didn't ride any rides. Our DS(15) wouldn't be into the P&P thing, so if we go to that party, it would be to try to ride more with shorter lines. Do you know, if the lines are indeed that much shorter? TIA

i haven't been to one either but i want to go, one, to see the parade (which features tinker bell.....an exciting thing for me), two, to see the fireworks (everyone says they're really good) and, three, to be able to ride some of the rides with no lines and participate in some of the cool stuff they have going on there. i'm not really interested in the candy and necklaces they give out. here's some more info for you:

So how does one go about finding a true experienced Disney TA who WILL know and apply promo codes quickly a trip? I'm sure if I walked into any travel agency and said I wanted to book an expensive Disney trip, they would all be "experts." However, how do I know, besides word of mouth, who the good ones are? WOW, I can't believe how much this thread has grown! I posted on page 2 and have not been on the boards since.I have lots of reading to catch up on. We were only planning to go to WDW for a couple of days and go to US/IOA and seaworld the rest of our vacations since were going to WDW 10 days over thanksgiving but my wonderful DH said we might as well go ahead and by annual passes since were going at least twice in 08 so that means more days at disney in may than we planned:cool1: SO now I hope they come out with AP room rates. I told my DH not to get me any christmas presents because AP is the best thing I could think of.Now let hope for some good airfair.
Laura
P.S I have a feeling that if we get the AP will go more than just twice in 08:thumbsup2

So we are going May 6th-14, if we book soon before a code is out, and then a code is released do we just call them with the code and they will take of off the end cost?

Yes..as long as your ressies match what the discount is...i.e...AP room only, Disney Visa package..etc.
Mickdeb

Yes..as long as your ressies match what the discount is...i.e...AP room only, Disney Visa package..etc.
But most importantly there needs to be availability with the code at that resort, for that room type, for those dates. Sometimes adjustments have to be made with your dates, resort or room type (view etc.) to make the code work for your existing ressie. The discount is by no means automatically taken off your current ressie.
It seems availability gets more limited each year. Alot of codes come out from email and postcard pins first, then sometimes to Disney Visa card holders, then finally a few days later to the general public. (See most recent release of codes).
Good luck and have a great trip:wizard:

Since I was such a GREAT "travel agent" for my DSis and her family for their trip last month, my DBil has asked me to help them with their 5/08 trip (he now has the WDW "fever" :)!!). They are hoping to stay at WL (their favorite resort) for 10 days after my DNiece and her friend get out of school 5/23 (barring no snow days :confused3 ). Here's hoping for some good discounts for everyone  !

Most everyone I know just books their own vacations online or through resorts themselves, so I wouldn't even know who to ask IRL.
I would recommend Dreams Unlimited. They specialize in Disney vacations and are very, very helpful. I am using them for my trip and have been extremely pleased with them so far. :)

I booked a package w/DP through an AAA agent which saved me 15% (?) on the room portion of the package. If a code comes out for May that offers free hopper and water parks and my agent applies it to my package will she add back on the 15% I saved on the room?

Yes, you can't have 2 discounts/promos on one package. My understanding though, is that the packages for Jan/Feb do have some sort of discount on the room.

Is there a reason why it's so easy to make reservations for the character breakfast? I made one for 5 for May 11th and one for 8 this morning for the 12th so that some other family members can join us. I plan to cancel the May 11th one, of course. Is the 180 day mark not widely known, or is it too early for many to book?
We will be staying at the Dolphin with a teacher rate of $179/night the second week in May. Can't wait.

OT: If you only had to pay 2 of the 7 nights (full price) where would you stay? We are currently booked at AKL SV with bunks. Also, trying to decide between DDP and DDE card.
Can't wait for the codes! I already booked CRT, WCC, R&C for Illuminations, DB, Boma and H&V/Fantasmic.

OMG-My DH and I talked the other day and we are for sure going May 23 through June 1 or 3.I'm so excited.:cool1: :cool1: The only thing is for the last 3 times we have gone we used the DDP and we decided to skip it this yr.Since we are only going for a wk (we usally go 2 wks)we didn't want to waste park time eating in TS so were just going to to eat CS this time. Now we just have to decide where to stay.We would like to stay on property but we need some type of code or room discount. I looked at past codes and rates and I think around February is when they will announce any discounts for May and June.I mainly worried about airfare the prices are still really high out of Illinois and I'm hoping they will come down some since there are 4 of us flying. There are plenty of hotels around disney so I'm not to worried if we have to wait to book until March or so.

The only times I've ever gotten an email regarding resort discount codes is for Annual Pass discounts through my Annual Pass email.
Rarely I have gotten "General Codes" emails, but 99.99% of the time I've read about the discounts HERE on the DIS first, often days in advance of any official notice from Disney.

HI, I live in Minnesota and we are going to Disney
May 1 - 9th. I was watching flight fares daily ( ok, couple times
of day!) Checking Northwest and Air Tran. One morning,
I found a web special on Air Tran site - $82 each way! I booked
that immediately, as the avg air flight right now is $280 total.
The next day the web special fare was gone and was running $121
each way. Make a mission of it, and youll find what you want!
I have used fare watcher sites, but have had the best luck going
to the company sites and checking frequently!
