Good News! Ray Sharpton is doing GREAT! He just called me this morning. He sounded a little surprised to know that we were all asking about him. (gotta love modesty ;) ) He said to say "hi" to everyone. His webtv is broken and costs too much to fix, so he's holding out hoping to find another SONY (can't be Philips or any other brand ;) ) WebTV. He asks that if anyone finds one, you please let him know. :) His schedule has changed to Fri., Sat., and Sundays, but he's home the rest of the week. :)

There are LOADS of Sony WebTV units on Ebay for around $50. There is even one for $40 that ends in about 5 minutes. What price is Ray willing to pay and what model is he looking for?

Ray just called me, too. I don't have a whole lot to add to what Tia said other than I told him that I was just about ready to send the Atlanta Police to his door to do a welfare check. I told him not to wait so long before he contacts us again. He said he's not much of a phone person. He is planning on coming back to The Dis, and he is going to attend Dis-Con II.

I'm so relieved. {insert relieved smilie here}

I just bought him a used Sony WebTV on ebay. Can someone tell me how to get ahold of Ray to find out where to send the darn thing???

The seller will let me use PayPal to pay for it and has offered free shipping, so I would like to have it sent directly to Ray. I have his address at home, but I would like to confirm where he would like it sent.

WOW! Great news is just oozing out of this thread! I'm so glad Ray's ok. What a huge relief! He called here and I missed him. But he left a nice message on the answering machine. It was nice to hear his voice. :D
John, that was so nice of you to do that. I'm sure Ray will be thrilled! And, we'll all be happy to see him back here with us again!! :) :)

I just got off the phone with Ray. He asked me to NOT send him the unit. He was touched by my generousity, but he says that he has a line on a refurbished WebTV 250+ for only $20. I told him that he is sorely missed here on the DIS and that he needs to get back online real soon.

Well, you can't say that I didn't try. :earseek:

Ray told me that he wanted to pickup a WebTV unit (or two) from a Sony Factory Outlet store. They have (had???) brand new units for an incredible price. Does anyone live near one of these outlet stores who might be able to pick one up for Ray?

The Castle Rock Sony Outlet has 1 250+ in stock. He won't tell me the price over the phone, but said they were on sale. Don't know whether that's a salesman's pitch or not.

Steve - They will not tell you the price. That's store policy. The stores will however put a unit on hold for you if you ask. The price should be $29.99 (believe it or not) plus tax. If you don't mind having the store set the unit aside for you and if it's not too far out of your way, I know that Ray would probably appreciate getting the unit at that price. There aren't any stores anywhere near Atlanta. I'll PM you with Ray's phone number if you want to give him a call before you make the purchase.

Just back from Castle Rock. They DID have 1 left. But I got it. :D It also came with a free keyboard. Brand-spanking new.

So......I went to the card shop (I'm a sucker for cards) and found one.

Outside: Black and white photo of a newborn with its hands over its eyes (like it's playing hide and seek). Words: Five.....Four....Three....Two....One.

Inside words: Okay! You Can Come Back Now!

How perfect is THAT? :D

I work down in the Tech Center right by I-25, so it was about a 15 minute car-ride down to the outlets (and I didn't even speed). I'd been down there before, so I knew right where to go.

I found the same Tivo I bought about a year ago at the Sony outlet for about $150 less than I paid for it. **&%&*$%!! Guess I'll know where to go when I "need" a new toy, huh? :D

I had to get back on tonight and read all the posts on this thread again. It brought tears to my eyes a second time today!
You guys are all so terrific and I know that Ray will be so overwhelmed when he does get back and tries to catch up on all these posts about him :)

When I met Ray at DIS Con, we shared a ride after the TOT event. I got to talk with him and really thought how much I liked him.
When I read his precious post about HIS special babes, and his being Santa (I should have already known) That touched my heart in a way that I can't explain.

He is a rare jewel and God has blessed us with his friendship. Ray, we love you and this thread should prove it.

Oh, wow! I missed the post with the description of the card! (don't know how I did that) The card is absolutely, incredibly PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve, you did one heck of a job-you are wonderful!! :D :D This is a sure sign this was meant to be!!!!!!!!! I'm just amazed how this all came together so perfectly. Yes, I'm gushing, I know-but that's how I feel. I sure wish we were all close enough to deliver it in person. Wouldn't that be something!?!?!?! :D :)

I took the card as a very powerful sign that this was all meant to be as well, Barb. It was the first one I picked up. It gave me the chills, then I started welling up. We're all very fortunate to have each other as friends.

I do most of my posting on the IB and Cruise boards. I really miss Ray's uplifting/encouraging posts on the IB Board!! It will be great when we have him back again......

I'm always tearing up when I pick out special cards for family and friends. I put a lot of timeinto picking out the "right" card. Picking out that card would have put me right over the top! I really cant put into words what im feeling right now about DIS and my DIS family - ok ive had a glass of wine , it is 8:40pm here but the tears are really flowing. I just cant get around everyones generosity and kind spirit. People in the past on other sites have called us names and said that we were cult-ish - well if thats the way they want to describe us i for one am glad to be part of it!!!

If i am unable to make it to DIS CON2 (im watching the pennies) please be sure that it isnt for the lack of wanting to meet you all - you are the best!!

Ray - come back soon!!! And to everyone that is making his return come even faster - your the best.

Dear friends,

I have just come back home from one more trip and found this. I have been laughing and crying at the same time at all the good feelings and true friendship I found here. There is so much love here that I think it is enough to start healing the whole world.
Ray is really a special kind of guy! A one of a kind type of guy. I remember how we rushed to warn him about the events-only registration last year. Steve and John, you are both very, very special too! How thoughtful and caring!

I can't wait to find Ray's posts again.

What a lovely gesture - I don't post much on the CB (staying mostly on the IB) but I just wanted to say that I am blessed to have found such a caring, warm group of people on the DIS and also wanted to say that you guys are the best. It's a great feeling knowing that you can come here and can always find what you need be it anything from Disney info to help, comfort, friendship,laughter, etc, etc.

WOW, I knew you guys were something special, but I never realized just how big that special is!! I don't "know" Ray (But, my dh filled me in) and I can't wait to meet him at DisCon 2. What I've read here tonight has absolutely blown me away!! Nobody can ever convince me that there aren't saints in the world today--I've seen them in action here on the DIS.
