if anyone else finds themselves watching the DVC channel in your villa while on vacation. I almost find some sort of wierd comfort by watching that stupid channel. I hope they change the tape soon as I have this one memorized (it's sick I know).
What is your favorite part of the tape?? Mine is the part where the wife is explaining (rapidly) how......."this trip we stayed in a studio, because that's all we needed this trip, so, what we can do is bank our points and maybe next year we'll bring my mother and father along and stay in a larger unit and make it a real family event".....I'm not too sure that hubby is digging the in-law plans for next year. ;)
I cant believe I typed that from memory.
HELP me!!!!

It is addicting isn't it??!! I watched my own video of it just the other day!!! I guess I am too impatient! I want to go "home" now:D

Maybe that is how my DH could have passed his required 4 semesters of spanish for his BA in less than 6 semesters!!!! :D
(I tried quoting for the first time, hope it worked:confused: )
Johnnie - that is SO funny!
We were just at OKW this past weekend - and I watched it several times. I like that part, also.
I'm pretty certain that segment of the tape was used on the DVC video that I got back in '96. And I "completely" agree about the husband - just the look on his face, "...Yeah, RIGHT - a REAL family vacation with YOUR mother!!" hahahaha....
I'm also pretty sure that spot was taped in the old Commodore House - which brings back memories from when we signed our first contract. The room tour, the sales pitch, the $15,000 ice cream... Ahhh.... memories... 2002 makes our 5th anniversary as members. Only 40 years left...

LOL! We just returned from 11 nights at OKW, and we used it as a nightlight!:D

I actually made a tape of it and the other Disney channels on my first DVC trip at OKW 2 years ago. I brought a blank tape with me and used the VCR in the living room.

Spanish - English --- I watch 'em both, too! :D :D

I like them too-- my favorite channels are the "Disney propaganda" channels. If my DH wouldn't intervene, that would be the only thing we watched! I wish I could get them at home.

I always smile when I see the clip with the little girl who's wearing the Minnie Mouse dress and ears and she's dancing with her grandfather.
Aww......it's so cute.:)

Gosh, and I thought I was the only one who was warped. This past weekend the DVC propaganda was my "lullaby." I just let it play while I drifted off to sleep.
Most folks would say this is an issue worthy of intervention or therapy or something.

I think it's obvious what the problem is, and what the potential cure would be. More Disney!! If we had our fill we wouldn't feel the need to supplement with videos and/or TV.

This thread is so funny to me! My husband thought I was insane watching that same channel over and over again. I like the part with the older couple that's talking (the wife sort of looks like Tammy Fae Baker with all the mascara) about DVC and how they hope they can pass it along to their children and their children's children and the wife looks like she is about to cry! It gets me everytime. And I have to admit, I even like watching the credits scroll up the the black screen at the end and then waiting with anticipation for the tape to start over again!
And I thought I was the only one . . . :D

Okay, I think we all need a support group.... <giggle>
I sit at home some evenings when my fiance is working late and watch the tape we got when we asked about DVC, followed by the WDW tape, and the D Cruise Line tape (a new addition to the collection).
Yes, yes... I'm sad and pitiful I know... but it just lifts my spirits SO effectively!
I am sooo glad to hear there are more of us out there!

Okay, you people are officially warped.
Of course, I am pleading the 5th on this one. Especially the part about using it as a lullaby. (You know something about the music..."do you believe in Magic, if you really do...If you believe in Magic, you belong"
Opps I had better quit before I give myself away. :D
PS I love the little girl in the Minnie outfit dancing with her grandparent too. :)

This is scary. We watched the video when we got it and then when we showed our parents what we did. Since then it is in a cabinet where it belongs.

ROTFLOL!
I have to confess the first thing I do when I check into my room is turn on the television so that I can watch the Disney informercials.
I always enjoy seeing if any scenes are different from my last visit!
Glad to know I am not alone.

So maybe next time we are at WDW I can send my DH to your room and he can watch it with all of you? Everytime I turn around he is watching the DVC channel. I try to remind him that we are already members, but he justs watches it over and over.

I'm with the rest of you. When we last went, (2000), the DVC channel was just about all that we had on, especially in the morning. At home, I love to watch the planning videos. Anything that shows the parks/resorts.

Okay, you guys are scaring me now!
I'm glad I didn't run across this thread when I was looking at buying into DVC....I would have thought I was not qualified as having enough of an addiction!!! :p
That said, I'm sure I will be checking out the infomercial next time I go. The two trips we have taken our children, the only TV we watched was the Disney bed time stories.

Yes, I admit it. I use the DVC channel at DVC as a "nightlight". I also send for each new tape as they come out.

You guys have me rolling on the floor! I thought I was the only one that watched those stations while vacationing! I hope they change them soon; they have been the same for a few years now.
The only time we watched any other channels while there was when a hurricaine was heading our way and we watched the weather channel to see what the hurricaine was doing!!!!!

We are all sick and demented. But I think it's because we don't really want to allow reality to seep in to our WDW visit home!
And the DIS boards are just as good as any support group for this addiction!
...busted! :) Yep, we watch them all. English and Spanish. Heartwarming, sedating, lulling... hmmmm... maybe it is time to go see if there are any good points deals posted today....

It's like having a support group on line! Every few weeks I ask the kids if they want to watch the "free" tapes. Of course they think I'm off my rocker anyway (LOL). When at WDW that TV is on the whole time we're in the room and it does make a wonderful night light!:D

Ok.... add my name to the list. I never would have thought to ask this question ... I would have been too embarrased.
I love the DVC tape, Cruise tape, WDW planning tapes ( I even save the old ones, though I only watch the latest version) and MIckey Around the World. I also beg my kids to watch them with me. My DH just rolls his eyes.
Yes, the Disney info channels are on the whole time we are "home".
Remember this one: Zip it dee doo dah -- tip for today.

Somewhere along the line, I got TWO different DVC tapes. It isn't at all unusual for me to sit down and play both of them back to back. Johnnie Fedora, I can identify with you having some of the lines memorized!! Me too! lol
Has anyone else ever noticed that most of the wives on the video ramble on and on while their husbands can't get a word in edgewise?? That would be me! I would merrily blab on and on about how wonderful DVC is until someone off-camera would have to yank me out of the picture with a cane.
I laugh at myself sometimes for being so gung-ho about my DVC ownership. But then I think how lucky I am to have something that brings me so much pleasure!! You too? :D

when DH and I were at BWV and VWL last week and passed by the DVC sales desks, we would want to run up to the people checking it out there and yell "just do it!"
On the other hand, we thought, maybe we should keep this great secret to ourselves:)
PS I too have the "tape" addiction;)

Just have to let everyone know that I'm waiting for a first hand report from those of you who will be DVCing in the next weeks. Have they updated the DVC channel to include BCV??? I will have disguise my voice and call for a new sales tape. ;) ;)

Funny, I thought the exact same thing about the in-laws!! I love mine, but I'm not too sure about spending my Disney time with them! It's suppose to be a break from reality!
Kick it up a notch!
02-06-2002, 03:21 AM
This is pretty weird, I watch the tape for the couple of weeks before I go and my wife makes fun of me and thinks it is strange. Even my 10 year old thinks it's weird, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!!

We had our first-ever vacation to WDW last August, and I watched this addictive tape over and over!! Every time I curled a daughter's hair or packed water bottles for the park, IT was on. Initially my DH said NO WAY!! But, as we're going back this May, primarily at his choosing, he'll hopefully consider it now!
Meanwhile I'll continue lurking here to pick up the "lingo"! Thanks new friends!

WAAAAA--my Rams lost!!!:pinkbounc
When we were at Vero this weekend, they actually had a copy of the tape that's currently running on the TV (the same one at WDW) right there in the room for you to take!
And, as a sidenote, I was surprised to find a VCR in our Ocean View Inn Room - I know we don't have them in the studios at OKW.
Anyway... I resisted, and didn't take the tape, only to get home Monday night and my DH pulled it out of his bag! :)
Now we have three.... Sheesh - we could make an evening of it!!

And to further compound the addiction, when I was down week before last on my "recon" trip, I took a camcorder and videoed every nook and cranny of the models and a 1BR at OKW I talked a CM into letting me peek in.
Now, to complement the "official" video, I've got one I made myself, with my own voiceover, and I inflict it on anyone who will sit still for about 15 minutes.
My family prays for me an awful lot these days.

dreamfinder2,
can you make copies of that! I know I would like it, and others may as well. When My fiance and I were down there I kept putting the DVC channel on and going "ooh" and "aah". I was a lot more into getting into DVC, and did it pushing her. She didn't really need much more than getting to OKW and haveing a relaxing trip! and we signed up that week.

My husband has also showed the tape to his whole family, to try to persuade them to come with us! Now he wants to buy a camcorder just so he can make his own DVC video to entice them with. What should I do? I don't want my mother in law to come to WDW with us! Maybe he can take them on his own.

This thread has provided me with many laughs. Going home to BWV on Saturday, and yes, I'm sure we'll watch the video, too. However, I will watch with a HUGE smile on my face thinking of all of you!:D
PS - We made our au pair watch it after reading all these posts!
Count me in as another addicted Disney person. One of the first things I do when we get in our villa is turn on the Disney channels. I watch them all DVC, Cruise Line, etc. I also love the jingle "If you believe in magic, you belong" and really when you think about it, it is so true!

This is too funny! We just bought on Monday (and I'll have to say we watched the tape several times before then).
However, my four year old watches the DVC tape followed by the WDW planning video daily, sometimes doing the whole cycle more than once.

I am thrilled to know that there are others that do this too!! When we were at Disney I watched the DVC channel over and over again too. My husband thought I was nuts and kept changing it. We haven't bought into the DVC yet BUT I WANT TOO!!! That's why I'm here. I'm trying to get some idea of how it works and if people really like it and so on. I figure as much as we go, the thing would pay for itself in 5 years. I just wish I had taken the "tour" while we were there but at the time we didn't even own our own home and I felt that I needed to get my head out of the clouds and remember what my priorities are. Well, now we have the house and hubby and I are talking about our next Disney trip. I figure w/ the DVC it will have paid for itself in 5 years and we would still have 35 more to go!! I'm kind of confused reading the boards but I did request info to be sent to me. I hope that helps unravel the confusion of it all.
Wouldn't it be funny if the propaganda tape really had subliminal messages "come back, come back" and that's why we watched it so much?

Too Funny - I was SURE we were the only ones who watch the "propaganda channels".
We actually called it the "propaganda channel" to a guide at Vero once - he didn't seem to like that term too much! LOL!
If you watch closely on the part with the couple talking about the studio now, then using the points later to bring the mother in law you will notice the husband doing a little positive head nod until the mention of the mother-in-law, then he does a hint of a subconscious shaking of his head! Too funny!:p

April Gearjammin101....welcome to the DIS boards! :)
I know that when I first lurked on this board (looked but no posts), I was a little intimidated by all the knowledge, abbreviations, slang and "inside jokes" on the board. But if you ask a straightforward question, no matter how dumb you think it may be, you will almost always get a prompt, accurate answer. You may get some unsolicited opinion too, but you can sort through that for yourself.
Good luck with the info packet....lotsa stuff in there. Don't be shy about calling your guide often if necessary. And don't be shy about coming back here....we're just a big family with as many characters as any big family would have. :D

You know, I sent for info from the website, and got the video almost immediately, but no info packet. I called DVC and they said, oh, it is coming. It has been a while now. The video is cute, but it doesn't do it for me. I want info, point charts, room plans--- what all is in there, anyway?
