Sports that aren't big in the US, or your country. For instance, I play Jai-Alai. And Extreme frisbee golf.
And Hackey-sack.
What about you.

It's a sport popular in Canada. And, as a Buffalonian, I may as well be Canadian :thumbsup2 . It's played on ice with stones that you slide across. I'd try to explain more myself but I'd end up getting everyone confused. I'll try to get some links.

That's a pretty good site.
We go to the Niagara Curling Club. Unfortunatly, my addiction will be shut down once passports are required to go back over the border, but I digress.

Curling is freaking hard.
I've tried it before.
My next door neighbour plays curling for NB I think.
And my friends entire family (including him) play it.

Well I do cheerleading, and before you say, "Everyone has heard about cheerleading." I don't do the kind that you are thinking of. I don't stand on the sidelines and go rah-rah, lets go team. I stand on a floor and do a 2 1/2 minute long routine that is EXTREMELY hard. It is a yearlong sport.

All you do is dance around in short skirts.
It is very degrading towards women.
CheerExtreme
07-26-2007, 09:32 PM
Uh, if it is degrading would you rather just see guys out there? And we don't just dance around in short skirts. We cheer in short skirts. It doesn't matter if they are short anyway-that is not the point. Have you ever watched a cheer competition before? You obviously haven't since all you think we do is dance around in short skirts. We win national titles. We flip. We throw girls in the air who do AH-mazing tricks. You don't know the SPORT.

People aren't watching a cheer competition to see girls doing flips and what not.
They are really watching because you're wearing short skirts.
Its very degrading to women, IMO
and shouldn't de considered a sport.

I race go-karts not the little concesssion carts that you go on at amuesment parks...ones that go 80+ mph and are one inch off the ground no seat bealts or roll cages....extremely popular in Italy and in some other parts of europe but its growing in the US

Are you a guy or girl? They don't watch it for that. They do watch it to see what you can do. There is an olympics type competition for it. So just a question-Is gymnastics considered a sport?

then why isn't cheerleading considered a sport because it requires A TON of skill. We do the exact same things but add more. People watch us to see what we can do too and not just because we are wearing a skirt. You have AH-viously never seen a cheerleading competition.

I bet if it were an all guy cheer squad, unless they were amazing, no one would come to watch them. Cheerleaders don't do half the stuff gymnasts do. Sure, you may do the floor exercises, but have you ever done a pummel horse?

Guys are the best cheerleaders ever. I would definetly come to watch them, since they do some pretty darn amazing tricks. Yes, infact every single girl on my team has done vault (correct term for the "pummel horse") We are ALL former gymnasts. Also, you are a hypocrite, you just said that cheerleading is a disgrace for all women, and you only watch it for the pretty girls???!
I don't get cheer competitions.
Who are you cheering for?
Well we cheer for money practically. We cheer for bids. <My team recently have gotten a $100,000 bid to go to Worlds. We pretty much cheer to show the world that we do more than just stand on the sidelines and cheer for others. We are pretty much the kids that are crazy and loud at school and do everything.

^Crowned the best cheerleading squad in america.
While the synchronization is wonderful, and I'll admit I couldn't do the flips, I've really seen more amazing feats of athleticism on a lacrosse field, football field, soccer pitch, and in gyms. What cheerleaders are really glorified gymnasts in short skirts. Besides, cheerleaders don't do half the stuff a gymnast will do in a normal gymnastics competition. A male or female gymnast could end up doing 3 different types of event in one competition, all different and all using different body parts.
By the way, the Pommel Horse and vault are two different events. But gj being wrong, try again please!

Well hate to break it to you, but that wasn't the team that was crowned best cheerleading squad in America. That wasn't even the competition. It is called Worlds. I went to it, and competited at it, so I think I would know. Even though my team only got 25th in the WORLD. We know who got 1st. I don't need someone who has never done the sport to inform me how we do what we do and who has won.

But the competitions and the type of cheerleading/dancing CheerExtreme [sorry I forgot your name] does is a sport.

It's not really unknown, but I don't know a ton of people that are into it. I throw on the track and field team. I'm female, so that's even rarer. A lot of what you hear about is the guys that throw (especially discus and shot put) and almost never the girls. I've made it to league, but never states. I was off by 2 1/2 inches this year in disucs, so I was really upset with myself.
To add to the cheerleading bit, I'm conflicted about it. I know that it's tough to do, but I feel that it shouldn't be a singular sport. I think it should be classified as a sub category of gymnastics. Or the name should at least be changed to show a difference. I know when I think of cheerleading, I get the image of people standing on the sidelines of a basketball game, not at a competition. I do not consider court/field-side cheerleading a sport. And I'm still not sure wether I'd consider competitive cheerleading. I think it's cool to watch, but I mostly watch for the girls or when I'm extremely bored. Occasionaly, I'll watch just to see what they're doing. Should be called "Team Floor Gymnastics- Choreographed" or something.

Thats awesome. We had two girls on our track and fields team that threw. They didn't go far but we had a kid who won 4 state events. Search on Google Da'mon Merkerson and this kid is amazing. He would make our terrible track team look even worse.

Not a sport but I'm a competive clogger. It's a fusion dance that developed in America in the 1800s. It is a mix of african, irish step dance, river dance, tap, and native american dances. Cloggers wear leather oxford shoes with a small heel. On the ball of the shoe and the heel there is a two-piece tap that creates an unique sound.
