Been to WDW more than I can count, but we will be ending this cruise with three DVC nights at AKV CL. We are between AP's so I figured it woudl be a nice relaxing way to end the cruise and go home all rested and relaxed! Since we will return to WDW in July for two weeks with AP's there is no need to worry about the parks in APril. I may add a Seaworld day though--kind of depends on how we feel.
There must be others on the cruise as well, I'll be sure to say hi if I see you!

hi
Pherhaps the new sea worl aquatica, in april its ment to open end of march, so well def be going there, akv was one of the places we were thinking of staying as well, saw the model unit while there in june and they looked nice x
do you know your room numbers yet?

patsal
07-29-2007, 08:56 AM
No, I don't know our room number yet, but as soon as I do I can share that. I'm so glad you mentioned sea world aquatica--my DD and I were looking at all the sketches when it was first announced, and I didn't realize it might be completeed by our April trip--of course the April trip just kind of materialized after we returned from the July vacation! Now I'll have to keep checking back to see if it will be ready for us to give a try in April. :rolleyes1

Hi everyone - we haven't actually booked yet, but just wanted to see if this is the 4 day cruise on the Wonder? We're looking at visiting the parks for 6 days and finishing with the cruise. Been to DL, but it will be first time to DW.

Yes, it is a four night leaving on Sunday and returning on Thursday. For us it will be a first cruise and the first time Spring break has ever been scheduled after Easter so it looks like a good opportunity to squeeze in a vacation! I had to return to work and this is the first chance I've had in 2 weeks to look at the boards!

...of course the April trip just kind of materialized after we returned from the July vacation!

Funny how that happens...we started planning this trip on the way home from vacation. Just got back from a Med cruise on Royal Caribbean. Has anyone stayed in Disney hotels? We're thought the Animal Kingdom looked good, but have learned there's construction going on right next door so having second thoughts.

I have stayed at
Wilderness Lodge
Polynesian
Animal Kingdom
ASMu
AS Sports
POP
Coranado Springs
Port Orlean Riverside
Port Orleans French Quarter
Old Key West
Beach Club
Dolphin

I have a concierge level villa booked for the three nights following the cruise. Even with construction I am not too worried about it. If you are worried about noise or disruptions with the animals I might consider booking somewhere else and tryign AKL when you know it will be "perfect".

I can't wait we have done WDW a few times
never a cruise and this will be our first onsite WDW stay we normally rent

Wow, can't be that early for the cruise to have so few people going, but we may all be in for great upgrades! In any event I'm sure we are all in for a great time! I'm staying at AKV for three nights after the cruise. I have never stayed at the Swan, but we did enjoy the Dolphin a few years back. The pool area is very nice. Many rooms overlook the boardwalk and you can get a great PM view of Illuminations as well--Epcot lit up at night is a magnificent sight.

I paid off our cruise so that I could book my Palo and Spa ressies on 12/30 since we have the REAS package. I received a packet in the mail with a letter reminding me of the 12/30 date and how the cruise will be here before you know it. It had a booklet with tips (although this board has given me all of them and then some) that revved up my excitement for this trip. My husband surprised me and told me to make reservations for after the cruise and we will be staying a few days at Wilderness Lodge. I can't wait!!!

Joining into this thread! Kaylajr and I have gotten to know each other on the boards and to be good friends and coordinated this vacation so we could meet for the first time! :cool1: If you see 2 women screaming like banshees and running towards each other in the Terminal get out of the way! :lmao: But we also look forward to meeting other DISers.

This will be our first cruise, me, DH and DD 12 and DD 8. They would love to get to know some of the other kids they will meet on the boat.

I am going to be at WDW before the cruise. Right now we are at All Star Music but hoping to get into Movies.

My youngest DD is 12 and I see there are a few that age going and she will hook up with Laura's DD anyway
but my oldest is 14 and was wondering if there were any other teens she could maybe "meet" before the cruise and than meet up on the cruise.

my kids and DH keep changing what they want to do
but the one thing they have kept constant is they want to see the pirates museum.

Just wanted to wish everyone luck with any reservatiosn that they are going to try to make tonight!
I'm looking at Palo for brunch for DH and I
The Stingray adventure at Castaway Cay
Maybe Ardastra Gardens in Nassau as well as a wallking tour and the straw market.

We are out of school today so my DD12 is going to type something up and I will send it to you!

We are going to try to get the Catamaran Snorkeling in Nassau for DH and DD12. DD7 and I want to just hang out on the ship and swim and relax. I can't do a lot of walking and since they don't allow wheelchairs we figured it was best to just split up for that. We may try to go to the Pirate Museum in the afternoon in Nassau if we feel up to it.

I don't think we will sign up for anything at CC. We will probaby bring our own Snorkel stuff and we have our own inflatable floats I will brin. DH said he may do a Kayak rental but I think you have to just rent those there right?

Oh, and Kayla and I are going to try for a girls only brunch at Palo. If we can't get it tonight we will try again on the ship.

So how did everyone do? I'm beat today because that was way past my bedtime. First I hit a glitch in the system that said I wasn't paid in full:scared1: , then something about verifying birthdays:scared1: , then at 12:12 it let me in:hippie: --too weird. I was able to book my excursions and our Palo Brunch and spa treatment:woohoo: . I think DS wants to do the banana boat, but I wasn't waking him to find out--I'll just add it later! Registered DD for the kids club--she wants to be with the 12 yo group--honestly I think that she and DS talked and came to the conclusion that they didn't always want to be together--sounded fair to me!
I hope everyone was able to get in more easily than I was and that you got everything!:cloud9:

Very strange patsal, I got that exact same error and freaked out! Kayla was able to make my reservations for me and they all showed up this morning.

I am wondering if this cruise won't be very full. When I looked this morning there were still a lot of things left-- like the Palo dinner and stuff that normall are booked up. It seems like I always read here that a lot of people can't even get those reservations at the 75 day mark.

I haven't registered my kids for the clubs yet. I figure I can do that in the next few days.

You daughter can absolutely send a PM to say hi to my daughter. I think she will be even more excited to be looking for someone she already "knows" there! My plan at this point is to let her be with the older kids group. I think she will have more fun that way.

Hi everyone,
I can't believe vacation time is almost here :cool1:!! We booked a couple of shore excursions yesterday so we just need to find out our flight time so we can finish off our plans for the big surprise. I think our travel agent said they'd let us know on March 8. The plan is to travel to our departure city where my family lives, have a birthday party and have a limo pick us up and take us straight to the airport. I feel a little bad our son isn't part of the planning, but can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out!!

Does anyone who's cruised with Disney before know what the typical dinner time dress code is? Do they have a formal night?

Cathy, Bryan and Riley :)

Wonder, April '08 (shhhh, it's a surprise)
Millenium, Hawaii-Vancouver, April '09

patsal
03-04-2008, 11:49 AM
I believe there is one semi formal night, but no formal night on a 4 night cruise. I've never cruised before so someone else may be better answering this. My plan is for DD and I to wear sundresses or capris for dinner except on the semi formal night she really has her heart set on a special dress. The boys will be wearing khakis most nights with polos or button down shirts. On semi formal night, the boys will have darker dockers with button downs and ties--wouldn't want DD to not have a proper escort!;) My personal plan is lots of black to mix and match as well as black flat strappy sandals to go with everything!

I bought stuff for me about 4 weeks ago. I found a great sale and got a bunch of capris and some tropical shirts and some skirts. Found some sundresses for my girls the last few weeks. We are getting all the shorts and stuff out this weekend.

There is really just a semi-formal night on the four day as someone mentioned. And don't forget your PIRATE GEAR!!! Castaway Cay night (3rd night I think) will be the Pirates in the Carreabean Party and you may want some extra tropical shirts/dresses or some pirates hats/eye patches etc for you children (no swords--I don't think those are allowed). I am going to pick some up at our Party Supply store.

Disneyshopping.com has some cute tropical shirts for Men and boys and Mother/Daughter dresses. They also still have some Pirate costumes in the Outlet section if you want to go all out!

Ummmm, are you all getting the impression that I am a just a teeny tiny bit OCD? ;)

So are we going to have a MEET??? Just a little time for us all to meet maybe on the first day and mix for a short time and say hi and for our kids to say Hi so they will know each other in the clubs? I am also a teeny tiny bit of a control freak ( SHUT UP Kayla !!!) so I can set this up if you all are interested. It would just be an informal thing ( and free!).

Anyway, my daughter and I will be on this cruise. While big Disney fans, we're different then everyone else so far as my daughter is 23. You know I must be old then!

This is my daughter's first cruise. I was on the original Big Red Boat / Disney Cruise 19 years ago so it's almost like a first cruise for both of us.

We're really look forward to and it can't get here soon enough!

Who me ??

I didn't say a thing........nope not me

I love the idea of a mini meet the first day so we can all say HI

I'd love a mini meet. Are you sure you are up to the extra work? I could help if you'd like. I know my kids were asking how they were going to meet up with their "penpals" so this might be perfect.

I have really got to stop looking at the suitcases in the basement and bring them up! DD is sick right now so my focus is getting her well and through her state math assessment this week. By Sunday I want to gather all my little boxes of "put this in that box for the cruise" and sort so that can be packed and then I need to add the clothes/snorkle gear/etc.

and the other is dealing with the state math test too
so this weekend will be when I pull out the suitcases I guess

And if it is going to run through the family, they will all be able to get it and get it over with before we leave! They keep telling me how kids are sick all around them at school and how many leave each day. I want to just keep them home so they can't get sick and ruin our vacation!!!

I love having this be a surprise for my soon to be 10 year old, but I'm so jealous of all of you shopping and packing out in the open!! I'm having to be very sneaky which is killing me. :guilty: If he arrives with clothes that don't fit, you'll know why.

We're up for joining the 'mini-meet' -- just need a time and place and we'll be there!

I've got a headace and I'm all stuffy, the kids at school are dropping like flies--today at the HS we sent 35 kids home! I'm so careful with washing my hands every 43 minutes and using hand sanitizer in between, but I think I got zapped:sick: ! DD has a pretty bad cold and DS is sniffly, I'm hoping we can be done by the weekend and move on to healthy for the cruise!

In all honesty there really isn't very much in the packet. But still cool to have!

I have spent this morning cleaning out my toilitries bag, gathering up the kids shorts and seeing if we have enough -we are driving and will be gone for 2 weeks and I don't want to have to do laundry if I don't have to.

National Treasure 2

Step Up 2 The Streets

Enchanted

The Game Plan

College Road Trip

Ratatouille

Personally I am excited about Enchanted!! We loved it and it would be so fun to see it again on the ship. And we loved Ratatouille also so if we get bored we may see it again.

Go check out Disneyshopping.com!!! I just spent a boatload and got some great stuff at discounts!!

Mickey Luggage is in the outlet for 44.95 after the 10% discount (OUTLET10 ) no reduced shipping on the luggage but still a great deal. I already have the red set and DH said to buy another set if I found it on sale again!

Stuff from the regular Disneyshopping is 30% off with SAVE30 and then $5 shipping with over $50 spent (SHIPFOR5)

OH and they have kids flip flops and sunglasses for 2 for $8.00 and then the 30% off on top of that!

I bought DH a Mickey swimsuit,

DD12 a tankini,

the matching Sundresses (mother and daughter) for my 2 daughters-- my 12 year old wears adult sizes. (you will understand when you see her!)

Ariel flip flops and sunglasses for DD8

and Charcoal Mickey Luggage for ME!

This deal is only good today so go shop! Of course they will have another deal out tomorrow! :rotfl2:

Just want to make sure you all saw this--Major change in policy for shipping boxes ahead of time and slight change in carrying liquids onboard:

NO boxes are being allowed to be shipped ahead of time to the ship.

and this:

MARCH 19, 2008---UPDATE ON CARRY ON AND IDS
This is the information I was able to find out

Guests are permitted to bring their beverages, HOWEVER, they MUST carry these items onboard the ship. The size is equal to the airline requirements which is a SMALL CARRY ON. These carry on's must be able to fit through the X-RAY machine. As most know there are signs posted on the side of the terminal with these requirements. You can also check the DCL sailing brochure as it is listed there as well.
PLEASE DO NOT TIP the porter to accept the items to deliver to your rooms since they are not able to accept this offering.
COOLERS ARE NOT PERMITTED and you will be advised to return the cooler back to your vehicle.
At this time, DCL does not confiscate any of the above items as the other cruise line do especially RCCL.

I hope that the above information will ease your anxiety as to what you can do and can not do.
Always
Shirley

Okay, It looks like 3:00 on Sunday the 13th is the best time to have an informal Meet.

It has been suggested that we plan to gather in the Promenade Lounge on Deck 3, or that there is an area on Deck 4 between the theater and shops where we could meet.

Anyone have a preference?

Well, we're happy to say we picked up our docs yesterday!! We had them sent to the travel agent just in case our son was around when they arrived -- good thing too as this is spring break week so he's been around the house a lot more. Won't be long now:yay:

The other stroke of luck we had in keeping this a surprise was over his pirate costume. As it turns out, they're doing the play Treasure Island at school and he came home last week announcing he needs a pirate costume. Sadly, they're performing the play for three nights while we're away so all of his rehearsals are in vain, but I somehow don't think he'll mind too much. He'll be visiting a real Treasure Island on his actual birthday (Apr 15)pirate:

We are going on the cruise and still staying at the Swan after but instead of doing Disney we are going to go to UNIVERSAL.

We have always taken our time in WDW and rushed thru US/IOA so this time we are saving a bunch of money and trying Universal

we may or may not hit epcot on Sun after the cruise depends on how much fun we are having at US.

Not sure, but I think you do not fill out the transfer ticket from the little booklet and you put the luggage tags on after the flight and before you check it in at the port so they know which stateroom to deliver it to.

You have to use the luggage tags because you will be leaving your luggage with them to bring to your room later. But keep a carry on bag with you with all your paperwork, passports, any valuables and meds and also you probably want to pack swimsuits and sunscreen and hats and such in it because it could be several hours before you get your luggage. In that time you may want to go swimming and you will be having lunch and exploring the ship.

And meeting up with all of us!

What dining time do you all have?

We're late seating too. We're wait listed for early and I hope we get it. My kids are used to going to bed at 8, not eating dinner then. But, it was the only way we could get our room.

I was thinking that if worse came to worst we would feed the kids early (from a buffet or room svc? not sure, but I think you can get food anytime you want, right?) then put the kids in their jammies and send them to the Oceaneer's Club. Then dh and I will have a late dinner. :confused3 I'm trying not to worry about it too much.

there are quite a few princesses princess: around age 8
on this cruise. Too bad my little princess will have to
go down to the smaller age group in the clubs. She is
not happy about that.

Can't wait to see you all!

Welcome! If your DD is really close to 8 you may request to "move her up". I wouldn't tell her ( just in case she'd be disappointed), but it might be worth the asking.

YEA!!! :woohoo: Another DISer! If you think your DD can handle it in the other group definitely ask. From what I understand they can be a bit flexible. How close is she to turning 8 ?

I found some great pirate stuff at Ben Franklin crafts today! Including a Pirate Flag for my scooter!

Oh, did I mention to you all that I will be the crazy lady trying to run you over in my new scooter? You all won't be able to miss me! (but hopefully I will miss you! :lmao: )

My youngest DD6 (almost 7) will be in the clubs and

my older DD8 knows there are so many her age. We

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

DD will be 8 in August. So, about 4 months
short. Think they would let that slide?
I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. If not, I'm sure
she will have a great time in the younger group
as well. At least she will have Lolita's DD to
hang out with!

What is everyone doing in Nassau and at CC?
We are doing Atlantis, via the room across the
street at Comfort Suites/Inn... whichever one it
is that has the full access. At CC, we will probably
just hang out and play on the family beach. Nothing
scheduled.

See you all in 17 days!

Kayla and I have signed up to do the Palo Brunch also. Not sure if our husbands are going to join us or not. They can't decide if they want to have to dress up! :rotfl:

Welcome to all the new people - glad to have you join us! And thanks Patsal for organizing us and listing all our kids' ages - looks like they'll have lots of new buddies to meet!

We're at the late seating - we did early on our last cruise and felt we were always racing back to the ship at the end of the day and rushing to have showers and get ready for dinner. It just wasn't relaxing at all. Our son is a bit older now too and while bedtime is usually 8:30-9:00, he can handle a few later nights with no problems.

For shore excursions we're doing Atlantis AquaAdventure (I think it's called) and then cycling/snorkling/tubing on CC.

They are basically fabric hanging pockets that you can use to leave notes and presents for others outside your door. Let me find the link here for you. I know I have it on my subscribed list.

Here is the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607 Lots of great photos and instructions on how to make them. You can also buy them on ebay sometimes. Here are some on ebay: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=fish+Extender&category0=

At CC we are doing the 9AM stingray adventure, then snorkling and relaxation is on the list--though DS may want to do a banana boat ride as well.

Our sea say DH and I have brunch at Palo and some time in the spa.

OK ANOTHER REMINDER FOR THOSE THAT FORGOT OR STILL HAVE A HEAVY FOOT.

AS SOON AS YOU PASS THE CRUISE SHIPS AND START TO COME OVER THE OVERPASS, TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS LIKE RIGHT NOW - there is a patrol car that is going to make sure you go from a higher speed to a MUCH LOWER ONE. Just before you go over that overpass to the other side, the area is being patrol super heavy so if you don't want an invitation to our courts, SLOW DOWN ;-)

ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WILL CAUSE A FINE - DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT CARRY ANY GLASS CONTAINERS ON TO THE BEACH - YOU DO AND FOUND, ITS GOING TO COST YA $100.00 RIGHT OFF THE BAT and you could have brought a few gift basket for that amount ;-)

OK thats all the warnings for today
always
Shirley

Dear Shirley, Thanks so much for warning everyone about the patrol car just waiting to catch an excited cruiser anxious to start their vacation. We got 'caught' on Jan. 19th exactly where you described. We were excited to see the ship, see our family, start our vacation and I needed to use the restroom. The last thing we were thinking about was how fast we were going. It cost us $91 and a 3 hours driver safety classs to avoid points against my husbands license. Please, please, please watch your speed limit and don't start your cruise like we did!

There are a few patrol cars there every single day and the minute you go over the pass, its TOO LATE - you come from a 55 miles to 45 to 35 within seconds of coming to the pass and over it. Each time I go by, I see a few cars pulled over and everyone just about has an out of town license or you can tell from kids in the car, upset folks that they are not from this area.
You are fortunate that your fine was so low for it is usually a lot more.
Anyhow thanks for jumping in and explaining it is a true fact besides that, we don't anyone hurt coming to or leaving from here.
always
Shirley

:rotfl2: Don't ask me! I have 6 suitcases and 6 misc. smaller bags and that doesn't include the 2 bags my DH will pack for himself! But ours has to last for 2 weeks!

For the cruise part I have 2 suitcases, 2 beach bags, a bag with our toilitries and a carry on backpack for the girls and I. DH will have probably one bag. I pack by putting all of our clothes--complete outfits including unders and socks-- into individual ziplock bags. This makes it easy for me to see that I have one outfit for each day for each person. Then I roll the bag and get the air out and seal it. These are all in one suitcase. The other suitcase has our dressy clothes and our Pirate night stuff and some of the misc. stuff we are bringing like an outlet strip, an over the door shoe bag and our door signs.

Me too, but I waited until today--had to go to the school district art show for both kids, then the Avril concert yesterday evening so that took up the whole day getting DD all ready, treating her to dinner and then heading to the concert. Hi everyone,
I'm never going to try to keep a secret like this again! The closer we get the harder it's been. 3pm Deck 4 Between the shops and the Movie theater. You can't miss me and my scooter-- really! :teeth:

We are on Day 1 of our trip and got pretty much rained out here in Savannah so it has be better for the rest of our trip. And despite my sworn statement (in blood!) that I would do NO laundry----- I have already had to do one load. YEP, day one and already we have been through 3 sets of clothes on each of the kids in ONE day. And I packed NO extras. They decided that breakfast would better if it was ON them rather than in them and had to change before we even left the hotel this morning. Then we got so soaking wet in the Thunderstorms we were caught in we had to change later into dry clothes.

So my advice? Bring at least ONE extra set of clothes. You just never know what may get spilled!

Sorry about the laundry sitch. I was thinking I should bring a backup roll of quaters and a few samples of detergent just in case--now you've confirmed it! Many of DD's items are for mixing and moving around so I think that we may be in trouble if anything gets spilt.
Hoping for blue skies and warm temps for you the rest of the vacation!

Nothing worse than having to psych yourself up to do something you hate before you can delve into the "oh crap I have to get this done!" Good luck finding what you need quickly and painlessly!

I have to high tail it into gear around here as well. DS brought me clothes--not nearly enough, but it is a start! The kids are at church doing service hours by working the chicken BBQ--they are gone from 11 to 7 tonight so I am hopeful DH and I can get the packing 100% and then clean the house to boot! I think DS will be packing right to the last second but at least I can keep tweeking it! So far it looks like two big suitcases and 4 carry ons (three that can be checked if necessary) as well as the extra carry ons that each person will have with their media equipt to keep busy on the plane ride. DH is dropping off the kids and running my essential errand of the day--pick up meds from the pharmacy and cash in lottery tickets that have been sitting around since Christmas!

Kaylajr, I am right there with you! I am starting to feel
the pressure!

I am behind a little compared to where I normally am preparing
for trips. I just started getting DDs stuff together last night.
Almost done with that. I have not even thought about mine
or DHs packing. But, the most important thing is, I have
all of the Tinkerbell gifts packed, all ressies confirmed and
all docs together. That's all I really need, right???

I can't breathe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are leaving bright and
early Saturday morning. We should be there around 4pm.
We are staying at Radisson at the Port. Anyone else staying
there?

See you soon!
Lori

We are staying at this Radisson too and should be there around the
same time, give or take on Saturday.:thumbsup2

I have been fighting with the luggage to get everything to fit and I
think that I finally have a system going - with rolling all of the clothes.

I still feel like there is so much to do and so little time. I have to make
sure everthing at work is in order before I go and that is stressing me out!!:scared1:

That said, we are BEYOND excited to be on the final countdown.:woohoo:

We're at the Radisson as well. I don't believe we'll get there until closer to 6 pm though. See you all there--oh are you signed up for the shuttle from there to port? We're 10:30 (I think--better check)which one did you sign up for?
We have too many suitcases and I'm going to try to roll (thanks for jogging my mind Lolita) then add to the spacebags, I would really like to cut at least one bag, but two would be even better!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
My turn!!
I ordered a black sweater--just simple 3/4 length arms, v with six small balck buttons so I could dress it up or down--I always get really cold in restaurants and theaters--my order came and thee sweater was sold out. Anyone know where to get a simple black cardigan in a XL?

Please remember to contact your credit card companies and let them know you are going on a cruise to the Bahamas so that there are no issues with any planned (or in my case unplanned) purchases.

See you all real soon!!

Well lets see

Rough choppy seas caused all except my DH to have sea sickness
and my DD Jess had it the worst:rolleyes:

no Castaway Cay and I think being so close we could see beach chairs was such a tease....I know they couldn't control the weather but each attmept rocked my cabin on deck 2 so much that it was horrible

Sorry you all didn't make the meet there were only 3 families there we
were so hoping to meet you all

my DD12 said the Oceaneers Lab was fun and we didn't see much of her
but the Aloft for teens was a BUST!!! my DD hated it and I heard from other teens on board the same:sad2:

couldn't even hang out on deck only 68 and high winds man i could have stayed in NY for that weather:rolleyes:

There were some fun things too

The pirate party was cool
the sail away party was good

lots of food
saw some movies
met some cool people:wave: Lovetoscrap and family and Patsal and family:thumbsup2

we are not big drinkers so two full days at sea we were running out of things to do

first cruise most likely will be our last cruise
gonna stick with the parks from now on i think:confused:

I could not make the meet either. I am so upset about not getting to CC. This cruise did not live up to my first at all. Next time we will just spend the week at WDW.

Hi everyone,
Sorry -- we didn't make the meet either...busy signing Riley up in the O/Lab and then the drill. Despite the disappointment over not docking at CC we still had a good time. On Monday we went to the Atlantis Aquaventure and had a blast. So much fun but the boys got a bit too much sun despite gobs of sunscreen. We loved all the shows -- such talented performers and the costumes/sets etc. were fantastic. Loved Michael Harrison as well -- caught all of his shows and in fact he was on both of our flights home on Thurs. Turns out he lives about 1/2 an hour away from us!

We managed to keep the surprise of where we were going until we got to the airport. The limo driver opened the car door and when Riley realized where he was (didn't know as the windows had fogged up) and we told him where we were going, he bounced around in circles and ran up and down the sidewalk jumping and high-fiving everyone! It was really worth all the planning, etc. to pull it off.

Also had a fantastic 5 days in the theme parks -- they're huge!! much, much bigger than Disneyland! We averaged walking 10 miles/day so didn't feel guilty at all eating on the ship! We saw some terrific shows and attractions and just had a really great time.

Time to put the bags away, do all the laundry and start dreaming about the next trip. Take care everyone! --Cathy :disrocks: Bye!

I really enjoyed meeting all that I did. DD8 had a great time with lanegang's daughter, and DD12 is already emailing with her new friends she made in the Lab. Funny, I was most worried she would be bored in the Lab and she absolutely loved it.

I am afraid that this was probably my first and last cruise also. I am going to keep my feet on land. If the first few days weren't bad enough that last night was just the capper. DH said he saw crew members getting sick. :scared: DD8 and I are very prone to motion sickness and I think cruising is just not for us.

Cathy, I thought of you all several times on the cruise and wondered how Riley had taken the surprise. I am sorry we didn't get to meet up.

Did we have no luck on this cruise or what? I was talking with someone at breakfast on the AM of debarkation and she said she's done a Disney Cruise before and it was nothing like our cruise (in terms of rocky ship movement). Does anyone know if this was common or not? I'd like to do another cruise, I'm just hoping it's not as wild as this one!

I was quite surprised at the movement as well. We were on a Med cruise last August on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas and it was so smooth you really had to look out to see if you were moving. Don't know what it would've been like in the same water but the stabilizers on the Brilliance worked really well. We're not really big cruisers, but have been on a handful of other ones in all different locations and have never had a problem. That includes a couple of times up the Pacific coastline which is supposed to be generally rougher seas than in the Caribbean area.

I'm not sure we'd do another Disney cruise. While we love kids, all those little people sure made the trip seem a bit hectic. For instance, I've never seen so many line-ups on a cruise nor have I ever seen a swimming pool so crowded -- they looked like little sardines packed in there! Riley has had a blast on other cruises where there have only been 100 or so kids. Celebrity's kid's club is great and a much better counsellor/child ratio so they all really get to know the kids and vice versa (longer trip helped too).

I talked to quite a few people on board that were repeat Disney cruisers and they all said that they had never experienced anything like that before. And I talked to a CM that said that it is very rare that the Wonder doesn't make it into Castaway Cay on the second day if they can't on the first. He said the last time he remembered it happeneing was about 5 or 6 months ago.

I think we really did just experience a very freak weather pattern unfortunately.

I am bummed out like the rest of you that we did not dock into CC. I have been dreaming about this cruise since I booked it over a year ago and not getting to set foot on that island was a total bummer.:sad1:

When we got off the ship, our porter told us this was a fluke cold front that came through and actually set the record low for Port Canaveral since the 60's.

Overall, we had a great time and my dh says we will do it again in hopes of getting to CC. (originally this was going to be a one time thing).

I started drugging my family with bonine a day before getting on the ship so other than a couple times their heads felt heavy, no sickness for us.

My dd's had an awesome time on the ship. DD (8) loved playing with lovetoscrap's daughter as well and had fun in the lab. My dd (6) had an awesome time in the club and wanted to be dropped off first thing in the morning and never wanted to be picked up. I was worried she would not like the club, thinking it was too "young" for her but that was far from the case.princess: princess:

We went and spent the next few days at Disney and the weather was perfect (not too hot! - June to Aug are plain miserable with the heat). I gave my sad tale of CC to the girl when we checked in and they upgraded our room to a water view. (Bonus to be had!!) I laid out by the pool every afternoon to a light breeze (as opposed to our gale force winds).

I am not sure when we will repeat the cruise. Perhaps when the new ships are done we will check out the different options. We will chuck this one up to dumb luck and try it again. Now, it's time for laundry.:laundy:

Oh man! I missed that one! I was going to go to the Lab and ask if they could email us the pics or something but we had to go straight to dinner and after that was when things started to get bad so DD and I were both back in the room pretty fast.

I wonder if anyone knows if we can get those photos? I will ask on the Main Forum.

We are finally back home and all I can say is this was the mother load of anything that could possibly not be planned for happened cruise/vacation. I talked with several crew members and they concurred that this was not the norm at all.
We were very fortunate not to experience the horrible sea sickness reported by many of our friends. I did start the family on ginger pills the morning before the cruise and every four hours for the most part. On Wednesday night though we were really feeling it quite hard as well and just called it an early night and crashed.
Biggest disappointment after the Castaway bummer was that the loft was not anything like we had hoped. Sarah spent a very small amount of time int he kids club--enroute home she said she was afraid it would be like daycare. She had a hard time catching up with her friends as we had the late dinner seating (never again on that, but more later in a trip report). Josh just said the loft was not someplace he enjoyed and he spent more time on his own reading and relaxing.
We spent the three nights after the cruise at AKV. They are beautiful and we will stay there again! We did the club level to wrap up DH's best birthday eva--not quite :lmao: Thursday was relaxing by the pool and a trip to DTD. Friday a full pool day, Saturday started out great , a trip to the outlets, then a pretty bad car accident when another drived failed to yield and knocked us off the road and down an embankment--very scary:scared1: . Everyone was ok, no injuries to either parties which was very good. After a few hours of paperwork and returning the rental car to trade for a new one we were back on track by about 3pm--the accident was at about 11am or so. We needed to return to the room to check in for our flight--Southwest. The rest of the day went well, but after that adrenline rush I was exhausted!
It was great to meet Lovetoscrap and family, Kayla and family and Lanegang and family! Both Josh and Sarah really enjoyed the time they spent with others most especially at the Pirate Party.

Rough is an understatement! The whole world continued to rock for DD8 and I for another 2 days. She actually ended up with a stomach virus the night before we left Orlando and had a pretty miserable ride home with a high fever and tummy ache. But she is fine now. DH and I both have upper respiratory infections, I just got back from taking him to the Dr.

DD12 came home to emails from some of the girls she met on the cruise and was so excited that they "didn't forget her"! I have a feeling she and your DD will continue to be email buddies!

Just reading through this thread. Sorry to hear all the complaints and that to most of you your cruise was a disaster!

For those that said this was their first and last cruise, you are not making a completely informed decision and are truly missing out on a wonderful vacation. I have been on 10 cruises. The first 2 in December and February respectively when I was a teenager and would never do that again. I book all my cruises the last week of April or first or second week of May. Usually those times are also the cheapest. I also only go on 7 day cruises. If I could not afford a 7 day then I would not go on a 3 or 4 day PERIOD. Due to the frequent turnaround of guests the ships are just not kept up enough and cruise employees are not the same caliber as the 7 day. You simply don't get the same kind of service. Of course I'm speaking in generalizations. AND I would go when the weather is optimal, like END of April or May. I'm shocked at how surprised many of you are that your weather wasn't great.

04-23-2008, 01:04 PM
Hi Rachel and :welcome: to the DIS. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us.

I think my friend Kayla and I are the only 2 on here that said that we would not cruise again. We know that we definitely got a very fluke weather system and that really the chances are it wouldn't be that bad again. But for both of us we went into this not really knowing if cruising was the right type of vacation for us and our families. Our children were aprehensive and our husbands were not really on board with this cruising concept (excuse the pun!).

We all did enjoy many parts of the cruise, but also found some parts--beyond the weather caused problems-- to just not be for us. Cruising is something that is great for some people but for others it just isn't their thing. We both have people in our family that are very susceptable to motion sickness and even when the waters weren't too bad we found that, despite taking all the precautions we could, that motion sickness couldn't be overcome.

My mother and sister are both avid cruisers and they were shocked when they found out we were going on this cruise. They know me and my family and our personalities and were pretty sure that a cruise would not be the ideal vacation for us. They were right.

It is just a personal choice. Cruising was something that I had always wanted to try and I am very glad that I got that opportunity, but I know now that we will keep our feet on dry land from now on. And hey, I really don't ever say never. Maybe sometime in the future the opportunity will come up and I may try it again. But I doubt it. ;)

So we are looking at it as a learning experience and figure we are just opening up 2 cabins on the ships for those of you that really love to cruise! :)

Hi there LOVETOSCRAP. Well it's good that you tried crusing and now know what it's all about. I have found in my travels that those that say they do not like crusing are usually the ones that have never been on a cruise...but...you have proven me wrong. If you are suseptible to seasickness then by all means a cruise is not for you. Luckily I do not have that problem. Again I'm sorry that your first experience was not all that mine have been but everyone find their own niche with vacations and I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. :cutie:
