We will be buying 200-275 points at BCV, in addition to our VWL points we already have. Should we keep the same month or have a different use year? What would the good and bad points be?

I know you all will have some expert advice for me.
thanks

Most people will do better with the same use year. Having different use years is more of a hassle though there are advantages. For someone that didn't have a good use year for them or anticipated staying at BCV a different time of the year AND was a good details and accounting type person, I'd consider a different use year. If you get the same use year (from DVC), you'll have one member number with qualifyers, where you'll have 2 member numbers for 2 different use years or if you buy the second membership resale, even if the same use year. My definition of a good use year is one that starts less than 6 months before one's anticipated yearly travel. Either way there are significantly more accounting type details for 2 use years or 2 different resorts.

If you buy a second contract with a use year 6 months from your first contract, you will have the whole year covered when it comes to banking deadlines. By banking your points at each one every other year, you will have the whole year covered each year.

We have two use years--June and December. In a way it's nice because every six months we get new points. It works well for us because we usually vacation in July/August and January. BUT, to be perfectly honest, it is a hassle to keep track of how many points you have in each use year, when they need to be banked etc. If you are very detail-oriented, you should be fine. Otherwise, I'd stick with one use year, if possible. Pick a use year close to when you usually vacation --that way if you need to cancel your ressie, you still have time to bank those points. For example, using my June points for a July ressie. If I had to cancel the ressie more than 30 days before our trip, the points could still be banked. Some people will say that the use year doesn't matter, but there are times when the use year plays an important part in your planning.

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm still undecided about this. Will I even have a choice when i buy?
