I've been a DVC member for 3 years now and, I'm ashamed to say, I haven't really figured out the points thing yet.

My use year is February. I called to make reservations today and was told that I needed to bank the 99 points from 2007 in order to book my 2008 February (president's week) trip.

I booked a Sun-Fri (5 nights) 2 bedroom at OKW for 150 points. I expected to have to borrow 51 points but was told I didn't have to borrow any. I don't get it. I won't get my (150) 2008 points until Feb 1st. Why didn't I have to borrow?

You are booking at a time when you would have the new use year points in hand. you can book 11 months in advance and use your use year points as though you had them in hand because you will at the time of your arrival to WDW.

You didn't have to borrow, because your February '08 points can be used for any ressie from February 1, 2008 through January 31, 2009. Your ressie was for February 2008, right in their use year. You used the banked points from '07 and the "then current" '08 points.

Ahh ! I did not realize that. Now it makes sense. So I would only have needed to borrow if I was going before Feb 1st.
