Is there any disadvantage to buying two home resorts?

I am not aware of any; at least, none that have impacted me. To me, it's beneficial by helping to ensure I get the resort I want to stay at, when I want to stay at it.

I guess I could own at just one resort, but then I wouldn't have the home resort booking advantage I have at four resorts instead of just one.

I have a family of 4. 9yrs and 4yrs old. I want to get the maximum points now. So I can have it paid off. What do you suggest the magic number is when they get older and I need a 2 bedroom?

Would depend on the number of nights and time of the year.We based our number of pts on both of these. The 2br we do sun-thur.but we do stay weekends on pts.just use a studio. The kids fly down on Sun. morning.and stay the five nights in the 2br.We go march, may and oct.thats how we came up with the number of pts.for now.

There is no magical number. You need to determine when you want to go, room type you want and how many times a year to at least get a base number.

When we take 2 or 3 kids, we get a two bedroom. We could get by with a one bedroom, but we want and like the extra space. When its just the DW and I, we get a studio.

We are up to 625 points now and its still not enough. We only have 71 points left for next year, after our NYE and March trips.

When you buy your points, get them in smaller contracts, not one large contract. Makes it easier if you ever need or want to sell the points.

We have 150 points at BCV. And believe it or not, it has worked great for us. We may add on more points eventually but since we purchased in 2003 we have always banked points at the end of the UY. We usually only take one trip a year though. Generally those a 5-6 nights in a 1BR. This year we are staying 8 nights in a 1BR OKW and will be banking the rest of our points. We don't have a trip planned for next year because we'll be having another baby at the end of the year. With 2 children though we may end up adding on a little bit later on. We tend to travel in the fall (and definitely not in Magic or Holiday season) so we can save a little on points.

If you buy 400 points under one contract, its harder to resell one contract then two 150 point and one 100 point contract. Plus you may find that 400 points is too much, you can just sell one of the other contracts.

We have 300 points: 200 at BWV and 100 (2x50) at AKV. We are currently selling our 230 OKW points to pay for AKV and (hopefully) another 100 points at CRV.

We just sold 450, so we're down to 1100. That's the number that seems to work for our vacation habits.
We planned to sell that 450 point contract when we added 450 at AKV in order to keep that amount.
I still think we're a bit heavy at VB, but my wife won't let me sell any of those. She wants points for a cottage even if it's just the two of us!

Of course, we own points at the three best resorts, strategically divided amongst VWL, AKV, and VB. :smokin:

My wife and I have 500 points - 200 original BCV, a 100 pt BCV add-on, and two 100 pt add-ons at VWL for Xmas time. We now are dying to add on at AKV, but waiting to see how the 7 month booking window plays out (or until our rationality is overcome when we see construction of the "new" area.) We saw the model at SSR in June, and were barely able to curb our enthusiasm.

Chuck,

How many days is that?

It depends upon season, of course, and whether we go with a studio or 1 bedroom. We usually 18 to 20 days per year, with one full weekend per visit on points.

We have 775 points, and have added 200 of those this year. We began in fall of '03 with 200 BWV and 50 VWL. We often bring family and friends with us. We are empty nesters and hope to enjoy our DVC for as long as we can.

The points are: 250 BWV, 175 VWL, 150 VB, 100 AKV, and now 100 BCV. I have planned which resorts the larger family vacations will be in until the 2010trip, so I know which points to bank and then will borrow from to make the trip work. I don't plan which dates these trips will be, but I figure that will give me a minimum of 300 points to work with, and that should do it for our 5 or 6 night family vacations. This year it's VWL, next year, VB and BWV.

Besides the larger group trip, we like to go during Flower and Garden, which is my favorite time of the year in WDW, and in December which is DH's favorite time. These other trips range from 3 to 6 nights. We've taken 2 cruises using points, but will probably not take any whole family trips that way.

Forgot to say what we did with all those points...

We are starting to settle into a pattern of doing yearly trips, alternating WDW with the beach. We like to travel to FL when it is down right depressing here, during the Feb winter break for a week or a little more in a 2 bedroom. A little sunshine does wonders. 300 WDW points are really too much but with it being one contract, we can't sell of any and also precludes me from doing any add-ons. :guilty: The VB points we added on to get a BC every other year or every three.

I have 200 points....I usually do 2 trips a year, one in a studio and one in a 1 bedroom, usually have to borrow a few from the next year but not many...I'm single so I can just kinda wing it, and it just depends on who is coming with me on what trip....I don't NEED more points, but I just WANT them, because I really want a small AKLV add on:love:

We own 300 VWL points and 150 AKV points. My family and I love WL and VWL is only a boat ride away from my favorite place - MK.

I have a spreadsheet, several actually, where I've planned out vacations for the next few years. Geek factor is high with this one.

I don't think that I will be adding on for a while. I have no plans of adding on when (I mean if) CRV comes to fruition. DW wants her king-sized bed (too), so I upped the points on VWL. We may go every other year to AKV once we settle into the place. Or, if we love AKV like VWL, I might go for 150 more points there in late 2010, if available. Or maybe something will come along after CRV that appeals to us.

I know that a lot is bantered around on these boards about the relative merit of a DVC timeshare as opposed to other timeshares. I don't really think of DVC as a timeshare. It is, but I don't think of it that way. I bought DVC to have Disney vacations. DW had to force me on a vacation back in 2005 and that did it. She is to blame! ;)

I forgot about the "how many vacations?" part of the question. We usually get two vacations in: one over NYE and one in the summer. We use our 200 BWV points for the NYE trip and we book day-by-day at the 11 month window. We almost always stay in a studio when traveling alone, but we have recently been sharing a 2BR or a GV at OKW (:sad1: I'm gonna miss those points!) with other DVC friends over NYE. We end up spending a bit more than a studio and less than 1 1BR and we take turns with the King bed. The summer vacation is usually in a studio and usually in one of our non-home resorts.

We own 875. It seems like alot but we are a family of 5 so we get a 2 bedroom. I get 6 weeks vacation a year. We go in October, January, and April/May to WDW. We also live close to Disneyland and take 5 days in July there at the GCH. This gives us a great Disney Vacation every 3 months. Going to WDW in the fall, winter, and spring when the weather is nice in Florida, and then taking the Hot Humid summer off at WDW, instead going to Disneyland in July in Southern California's dry warm summer works great for us. We live in the inland portion of California, so it is nice to cool off at Disneyland during the hot summer. There is usually about a 10 degree difference between Anaheim and our town during that time.

We have 570 points, 420 at SSR and 150 at AKV, spread out over 5 contracts. After our next trip we will have spent about 60 days at Disney since 2004. We have only been in a studio for 6 of those nights. We buy APs and take two trips with our family of 4 and one trip with our extended family. Then we take a year off and let our points build back up. We have even rented to friends a few times.

The only way we our buying more points is if Disney open CRV. DH loves that resort.

We have 290 points and while we haven't settled down into a vacation pattern yet, it's enough to allow us to do what we feel like each year. Last year it sent family friends of ours down for 5 nights, allowed us to rent some, and still stay for 2 nights at Disneyland Hotel. This year we have 8 of us going, bringing our whole family for a week in a 2 BDR and a Studio at SSR, plus 4 nights for me at BWV in a studio in January. The following year we're hoping to spend 6 nights in a Concierge 1 BDR at AKV for our anniversary. For us it really has all come down to the flexibility.

50 VWL points here. Eventually we will buy a couple small point contracts maybe to total to 150-200 points. Right now DW and I are happy with our little resale that we bought.

We figure we can one 5 day trip during Adventure season for the time being until we can afford to get more points. The thing I think we will be considering is that since now we have points at a Magic Kingdom resort we will look to either DTD DVC or Epcot DVC or AKV

We have 520 points. This is probably too much for us now that we have bought a holiday home in Spain. Since we bought in 2004 we have been over to WDW every year and stayed for two weeks but this year will be the last for a few years.

We have used our points for Disneyland Paris an II exchange to the UK, disney cruise and took two other families with us from the UK.

We have 180 points each at AKV, BCV and SSR, so 540 total. This works out to about 3 trips a year, staying in a studio. We do one fall/winter, one late spring and one late summer. We do take the kids out of school for the fall/winter and late spring trips but this may not be an option once they get to high school. In that case, we'll take fewer but longer trips in the summer and move up from a studio to a one or two bedroom. Although its not the best use of points, we might take a 3 or 4 day DCL cruise during the years when taking the kids out of school is verboten.

A little OT, is there a DVC 101 somewhere on the dis boards? I keep reading bits and pieces about how others use dvc points. I've read that its not a good use of points to take a dcl cruise. Why not? And then I read its a good value to buy smaller contracts. Why? Thanks for helping this greenhorn!

What you say is true if you want to reserve at the 11 month window, but if you wait to reserve the last few days until the 7 month window, you can use the SSR points. We have done this several times with our mixed resort points. Usually it has come through for us, but we don't mind switching resorts, if necessary.

290-BWV, 85 HHI points.
We 'try' to go to WDW one year, the beach the next year, then WDW, beach,etc... It does not always work out that way...

In that situation, at 12 months I would book my 100 points at AKV and use 100 points from SSR (i.e., book a split stay). Then, at 7 months, if I didn't want a split stay, I would try to change one of the reservations to the other resort.

However, since it's just the wife and me (no kids), we would prefer the split stay.

100 points VWL.

This is our first year actually using points. We are banking/borrowing to the best of our abilities. We just got back from 6 nights in a 1 bedroom at OKW - we paid cash for Sat night and points for Sun - Thur. We have a trip booked for 7 nights in a one bedroom at VWL for March 2008. We are paying cash for Fri and Sat nights and using points for the 5 weekday nights.

We have 2 points coming to us in June 2008, so we plan to take our next trip in June 2009 when we will have 202 points available (borrowing from the next year, of course). We are considering a studio for the 2009 trip.

I borrowed too. I have 0 points in 2008. That is why I am taking note of how many points everyone has. I am buying more next month! Thanks for your help

260 total (for right now).

150 - VWL
55 - BWV
55 - SSR

We are in the process of selling our Marriott timeshare. In this past year, I have been adjusting our timeshare ownerships just in case the Contemporary DVC comes on board - ;) :dance3: When and if it does, we'll be giving our DVC guide a call.

Right now we have 170 at SSR. I wish we had more, but right now it's about enough for us since we stay at studios a lot. We bought in March 2005 with use year September. We had to borrow to stay at a 2 bedroom in August 2005, but had enough left to do 6 nights (1 weekend night) at a studio in both January and May 2006. We haven't gone since May, but now we have enough points to do 7+ nights at a 2 bedroom in January 2008 and 7 nights in September/October 2008.

Once my sister and I have kids, I'm sure we'll need more points since we'll need more than a studio everytime we go!

We have two contracts at SSR for a total of 310 points.

SSR-160
SSR-150

We are patiently waiting for the next announcement for the next DVC project and then I plan on another 100 points at that location. Not interested in AKV.

We have 220 at BCV. This affords us about 1 week each summer or spring in a 1BR. (school breaks). We are interested in adding on for 1 week at HHI each summer. Looking into it. We loved it there, just back last week.

I have 260 points at AKV. My plan is to do 2 trips a year: one 8-9 days and one long weekend. My plan is to make my way up to having enough points to do a 1 bedroom for those trips.

220 BWV and 80 OKW. This was enough when we traveled mostly off season but now that our daughter is in school we will need more points to handle summers and other higher point times. Holding out for CRV...

We have 250 pts at SSR (split into 2 contracts for re-sale purposes). Going on our first DVC trip to OKW in 17 days! Just bought in Dec. '06 so don't have a trip pattern yet - but it's looking like with only 250 points we'll only be able to swing 1 trip a year in the "Magic" season.

We're doing just this 1 trip this yr. then banked our remaining points into next yr. and are using all of those combined points to cover the 3 of us on the 4 n DCL cruise. (Then we're paying cash to do the 3 n back-to-back with it!) And as far as the value of using DVC points for a DCL cruise - we're doing it 'cuz it saved us a tad over $3K cash - so to us it was worth it to keep the $3K in our pockets!!:woohoo: The value of DVC points to cruise is relative to how deep your pockets are (we just have those little watch pockets, not cargo pant size)! It may have been cheaper by $300 or $400 to rent the points out & pay cash - but that wasn't such a huge amt. & didn't feel worth the hassle of the renting process to us.

For 2009 we're thinking about getting several studios & taking as much family as we can coordinate together for about 5 nights.

We bought 350 at SSR in May 2005. (sssshhhh don't tell dh but I've been bitten by the add-on bug) Don't have any interest in AKV so I'll either wait to hear where the next dvc will be or we'll look into resale.

I've heard some say that using your points for DCL is a waste, but I guess its all in how you want to use them. We banked our 2006 points and used 2006 and 2007's points and went on the 7 day eastern carribean cruise. We had a total of 8 people. Guess I should have mentioned that we are a family of 6 (dh and me and our 4 kiddos). Anyway we had a great experience on the cruise and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We have a September use year so we are going Sept. 1-12th (can't wait) and staying at BWV in a 2 bedroom. Again we are taking our family of 6 plus my parents.

I would love to go more than once a year however I'm an off season kind of a gal however, I do dream of a magical Disney christmas!!!) and with two kiddos in school its kind of hard to make it more than once.

As of yesterday, our total rose to 550 pts.

We bought a 110 pt add-on at AKL (two 55 pt contracts) to go with our:

150 BWV
75 BCV
215 VWL ( 65, 50, 50, 50)

As you can tell, I like the smaller contracts so that I have a choice of perhaps selling only part of my DVC or deeding some to daughter's family later on.

As our family is growing, I see where we will need eventually to get at least 1 BR or 2 BR reservations at times. And I figure eventually we won't go quite as often (average of 3 trips per year now), but will bank and borrow points more to make reservations that require more points. For example, we may not stay at BCV but once every other year, using 150 pts, etc.

We have 150 at BCV and 50 at SSR. We stay in the studios and go off peak times. Last year in September we spent 6 nights at BCV and then 5 more nights at VB. We still had points left to bank.

We own 174 pts. at Boardwalk and soon to be 50 pts. at Vero Beach. Our plan is to go to Vero Beach once a year (I grew up going to the beach every summer!) and using my BWV pts. at different resorts. I am currently waiting for my Hawaii search to come through. :wizard:

We have 750 pts. Our next trip is for Food/Wine and that will be our third trip to Disney this year. Our home is OKW. The number pts depends on how you want to use them. We have always taken friends and family with us at least one time a year. Group sizes from 3 to 14. So, if you plan on a big event and need pts. for a Grand Villa then the more the better and more trips to the magic. We have always enjoyed sharing our pts. with others and taking them around the parks. We hope to continue these trips for long time.

My dh and I have 875pts to this day and we always seem every other year to keep adding. its almost like a disease:rotfl:
We started with 210 in 86 at okw then added on 150 to Boardwalk then 250 at Beach Club now we just added 265 to Animal Kingdom and I am sure if the contemporary announces something I will be buying more, hopefully it wont be for a couple of years. but obviously like everyone else the points are put to good use and to me memories are priceless and we have the best ones from these vacations.

DW and I bought 270 points in 2000 at OKW. We were able to plan two trips a year most years (travelling the first week of June and a week either late October or first week of December).

We just a couple of months ago (or as DW puts it "right as we are paying off our OKW Contract") decided to add-on 300 points for AKV. So the way I see it, if I don't loan some points to any friends I should be able to bank and plan that cruise sometime soon. (Actually I would never use points for a cruise it doesn't seem economical). :scared1:

The way we figure we could go for 4 full weeks depending on the times we go. :goodvibes

785 for us. 150 at VB, 150 at OKW, 90 at HHI and the rest at SSR. DW adn I stay in studios. We spent 1 week in Jan. at VB in an inn room and the entire month at WDW at SSR and OKW. A wek and a half during spring break at HHI and VB. 5 days during F & W Festival. We always try to maximize our points. We did not add on in Chicago.
