OK, here are my last minute questions:
1. Do we need bug spray for mosquito's?
2. When they say HOT, how hot is it....like 3 pair of undies a day hot or just slow it down or you might melt hot? BTW...we are there 8/25-9/1. Do I need to bring any sort of lightweight jacket?
3. What are our chances of checking into OKW at 7:30 am on Sunday August 26th? We get into POP the night before and they said we can come over in the morning and pre-check in but do we have any chance of getting a room? Either way we will go over there and leave our luggage and RUN RUN RUN or walk slowly in the heat :cool2: to the parks!
Thanks DISer's, without you I wouldn't have so many questions! :grouphug:

We went last week of August last year and it was heat like I have never experienced before!!! Each and every picture showed our family dripping :scared:!!! DD was 3 and DS was 9 mos. No matter how much we save, we will NEVER go back that time again!! HOWEVER, we had a great time regardless, and I'm sure you will too! We just brought our spray fan (which we bought a previous year) and made frequent trips to various shops and TS meals. I wanted to give you an honest account and not say, "well, it was hot, but you didn't really notice". Just be prepared...maybe you'll have a "cool spell" when you go!
Good luck and have fun!!
Forgot to say: No bug spray needed when we went and certainly no jackets...not even at midnight!!

That is what I was thinking...HOT HOT HOT. Did the mister fans work well or did they take up too much room? I am really hoping that my ds (7) will be able to squeeze into a double stroller with dd (3 going on 4) so he can have a break from walking in the heat (he is not a small 7 either but she is a skinny 4)...we will have to see! At least we shouldn't have to deal with bugs. Unfortunetly we have been spoiled where we live right now (WI) and the humidity has not been present...we have had such wonderful perfect almost cool days that we are in for a rude awakening when we hit Orlando in a month! Thanks again for posting!

We went in August, and we're going back in August so obviously it wasn't too terrible! We had frozen water bottles with us that would defrost slowly throughout the day, and that truly saved us. We also had misting fans, and if it became too unbearable, we'd duck into a store to cool off. It was really hot, but come on, it's Disney!!

We've got 21 days to go and I am RIDICULOUSLY excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to add: you may want to bring a long sleeved shirt, if you get cold in air conditioning like I do. I brought very light-weight long sleeve shirts for myself and my girls (just threw them in the golf cooler we were carrying) and I was so thankful for them! We were practically blue in Soarin' we were so chilly! Such extreme temperature changes has got to be unhealthy, somehow.

Oh man it's hot! but its cool cause your'e in disney:cool1: I hate to wear tank tops but it was a must for me, The heat hits you in the face when you first walk outside, but when youre in the parks its not so bad all the rides are cool and you can always stop in a store for a break. The mister fans were ok ours broke like the 3rd day. (PP, long sleeve cotton shirt:thumbsup2 ) the resturants are cold! Oh if if your really hot just wait till the middle of the day, and stand out in the rain for a few min! We are going 8/27-9/4! so my sweaty famiyl will say "hi" to your sweaty family.

wear cotton, bring spare socks, wear long or med hair up or you'll be ten times hotter and your pictures will look horrific. other than waterproof mascara and lipstick, don't bother with makeup...it will be gone. You'll still have fun and won't really care if you get rained on!

We were there 3rd week of Sept. last year and it was hot but it must not be as bad as I remember because someohow we are going aug. 29 to sept. 5. I think somehow on the flight I was brainwashed into not remembering the humidity and heat!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

+How hot is end of August HOT and other last minute questions?
OK, here are my last minute questions:
1. Do we need bug spray for mosquito's?
No - hopefully the lovebugs won't be early either.

2. When they say HOT, how hot is it....like 3 pair of undies a day hot or just slow it down or you might melt hot? BTW...we are there 8/25-9/1. Do I need to bring any sort of lightweight jacket?
2 pair may due. Lightweight Jackets? Up to you I will not be packing jackets or pants this trip. Waste of souvenir space.

I would call before I leave you may want to wait til check out time at POP so you aren't stranded. Call 1st.

We went last August and it was really hot but we had a blast. Also, my 7 year old DS and 3 year old (almost 4) DS shared a double stroller and it worked out great. I would strongly suggest doing the same.

Right Now 85°F

August Averages
Sunny Days 0-3
Cloudy Days 10-11
Rainy Days 14-16

Average High 92° F
Average Low 73° F
Average Precip. 6.25 in.

This is what weather.com has for Orlando in August. It's the humidity that can get you to the 3 pairs of undies a day!!!

We went in August 2004, and it did not bother us too much. We have hot humid weather in MN in the summer time. We have already had 15 days over 90, with no rain though.:sad2:

Anyway, in 2004 we had DD7 and DD10 in a double stroller for a good part of the trip. DD10 was/is very petite. This year at 13 & 10 they have to walk...no free rides this year!!!:lmao:

Drink pleanty of water and take a break mid day worked for us.

Have fun!!!

I am still looking for the towel type things I have heard people talking about that you can get moist in a drinking fountain and lay on your neck..takes up less room and no batteries! We will be the smelly family that is have a blast and will definetly say HI to another sweaty family! Have a great time and pray for 80 degree weather with NO RAIN....we can wish right?

Thank you for your help and yes the airplanes are equiped with something that makes you forget about how much money you are spending and how hot it really is...we are looking forward to it!

I didn't even think to bring the extra undies to the park with me....that could be funny if they check bags at the security check point as we enter the park :rotfl2:

Yes it is hot in August. Going again on the 26th. Staying at POR. Leaving on Sept 2. I bought a windbreaker jacket from Old Navy that turns into a bag for my 7 yr old. Hooked it on his belt and only used it when it rained or when we went to a restaurant that had air conditioning. Still have our spray bottle fan from Disney 2005. Change the batteries and use that. They have plenty of cooling spots in the parks. In Epcot they have a car wash when you get off Test Track where you can just stand in the misting water.

If you are on Disney Property, go to the parks in the morning, go back to the hotel in the afternoon and regroup and hit the parks in the late afternoon. Have a great time. I know I will. Ain't no heat and humidity stopping us.

I love the last week in August. DD and I are going for our third annual mom/daughter trip. This being said I hate the humidity!! I will be joining the ranks of sweaty people! I can take the heat (it gets hot here in SO CAL) but not the humidity.

We hit the parks at opening, swim/rest in the afternoon and go back to the parks in the early evening. We also have a complete outfit change each afternoon. It makes for a very large suitcase but..... not so smelly people. I think the people standing around us appreciate that! LOL!!!

I always try to make time for laundry but I can never make myself - I would rather be hanging at the parks or pool. So for us it means a very large suitcase (or two, or three as we both are girly! LOL!).

Try bringing a ziploc bag..fill it with ice cubes and put a couple wash clothes from your hotel in the bag. Pull them out mid day and you will have a cool cloth to wash up with. We have not tried this yet, but will be trying it this year. DH heard this from someone else.:thumbsup2

Oh Geez. I am a GINORMOUS HEAT WEANIE!!!! And guess what? We are going in August this year for that damn free food :lmao:

I have been giving myselft little pep talks each day: "You can do this Gina. No one has ever actually melted into a puddle (well except for the wicked witch)." Also been keeping the AC at home set warmer than I usually like it in hopes of acclimating myself a tiny bit.

With that being said, PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGY NOW SHOULD YOU HAPPEN TO BE AT THE WORLD THE SAME TIME THAT I AM AND I SNAP!

Planning to keep my gel neck cooler in the fridge at night so it's nice and cold. Will put ice cubes in my spray fan for extra chilly misting.

We went the 3rd week in August and while I had a hat and mister fan and an umbrella, (which, by the way, worked great, even though it was black!), it was "drip city" for me!! Yea, It is HOT!!! The first couple days I thought I would melt, but then, I don't know, something happend and I was a little more confortable. Still dripping but confortable. We were in the parks early and took a break in the afternoons and went back to the resort and swam for a while, then back to the parks about 4 or so.
We will be doing it again this year! August 23-31st!
Have a great time!!!!!

I have actually thought about turning our air off this week since we are in WI and the high today is 93 (but the heat index is 100+ and we have humidity) BUT that was just a thought and I am trying to get up the courage to go out in the heat because we have no milk. I have a feeling if we will be just fine and maybe we can remember that heat when it is -5 this winter! I also hate the heat and am going for free food....it better be GOOD free food :)

Travel soccer & Summer WDW trips have taught me a lot about myself and the heat. They don't mix well. A few trips ago I got the worst leg cramps in the middle of the night from dehydration and walking more than I would at home in the heat. I try to carry gel filled neck wraps around my neck soaking them throughout the day, drink plenty of water throughout the day (free cups of ice water from kiosks can fill bottles). I put crystal light or green tea flavoring in the bottles for flavor. Eat bananas for brkfst potasium(sp?) salad & fruit during the day. Save my main meal for late in the day or evening then walk it off in the parks which are usually open late in the summer. There's no getting aound it we're in for a hot hot trip.
keep telling myself..."just don't push it or you'll faint:scared1:your kids won't be able to carry you because you didn't lose the weight you said you would by now. Heck they're teens.. they'll probably disown you and leave you to melt in the FL sun"
