(please excuse the typo in the title - if any mod can edit that to "wishing", please do! :( )

Replying to another thread, I nottice that Virgin Atlantic's Economy and PE Sale finishes on July 24th - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/specialoffers/specialofferstotheusinpremiumeconomy.jsp

This is what I believe is causing people to get extremely good PE upgrade deals recently... (since people are being charges the small fares difference and possibly a change fee)

Note that the deals run from 22nd August to 9th October and 24th October until 14th December (the deals are not valid for the October "half term" period).

So anyone travelling during that period who wants to upgrade (or grab a great Economy/PE deal) should book by 10pm on 24th July.

We travel on 5th September and are flying with Virgin though the holiday is booked with Thomas Cook Signature.

We rang up regarding PE and they quoted £250.00 each for one way.

We didn't go with this.

Any ideas how we could take advantage of the sale???

Can we are we have booked with a different travel agent?

Help!!!

Try and ring back and ask again... However it may be that Thomas Cook can only offer upgrades at that price :sad1: (may be the thing with tour operators - because they often have an "allotment" of seats, sometimes they can get you better prices than you can get by booking direct with an airline, sometimes they are tied into worse prices...).

Have you paid in full yet? If not, how much desposit have you paid?

We have piad for our holiday in full now!

I'm sure we could get a cheaper upgrade but the agent said that it was £250.00 per person for one way.

We paid that last time so it mustn't be part of the sale that virgin are having.

Any ideas?

I checked with Virgin Holidays and it was £430 outbound and £270 inbound, I think it must just be VA who are having the sale.

I have just checked out with VA website and the flights are only £50 extra each way in PE, guess we have missed out by booking with VH.

Any ideas?

Think you are pretty much stuck, to be perfectly honest (if you hadn't paid in full - and had only paid a small deposit - there was the option of cancelling and rebooking).

One thing you COULD try is to offer to buy upgrades at the airport and see what deal they could do for you? Generally MCO flights are very busy in PE, so there is no gaurantee that they will have seats available, but I assume that you are travelling as a couple (so that might help - only two of you). BUT I would still expect upgrades to be charged in the region of £175/£200 per person ONE WAY. BUT you don't know until you ask, do you? Never any harm in asking and you can always say "No thank you, not this time :) ".

However, if you did want to try this (buying upgrades at the airport), then you should really manage your own expectations - since there would be a good chance that there isn;t availability or that you don't want to pay the price that they ask. So set your mind for travelling economy with the "vague possibility" of buying an upgrade...

And remember the most important thing is the great holiday in Orlando - the plane rid eis only "getting you there"... i.e. you will have a FAB holiday whatever class you fly :thumbsup2

Hope things work out for you :cool1:

Must admit we enquired about an upgrade to PE on our return flight from MCO on 25th August and were quoted £300 each. I then rang Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to see if I could upgrade one way using miles and she said not at the moment as they generally try and sell them first, but she did suggest I try at check in at Heathrow (flying out to NY) or if that fails ask at MCO on our way home - she said if there is space they may well upgrade you for 10,000 miles each, each way.

We are going to try this as it would definitely be a bonus for our flight home - not bothered about going out as we will have Vport and that in itself will make the flight much more bearable. But if not I know that one day I will turn left not right;)

But if you have flying miles this may be another option available to you

Hhmmm, I thought that some of the people on the "Just Upgraded" thread had booked (and upgraded) with VH too... maybe not? Maybe VH, like Thomas Cook, has an "allotment" of upgrades at a certain price and that is all you have access too...

A couple of things you COULD try:
- get your flight booking up on "Manage My Bookings" on the VS site. I have heard that VS have now added a "Upgrade your flights" option to it. Do you have this and, if so, how much does it say? Of course you may not have this - maybe they don't give people that option if you have booked through a tour operator (like VH or Thomas Cook).
- you could always try phoning VS direct and ask about the cost of upgrading. You may well get the answer "oh your flights are booked through a Tour Operator, you need to upgrade through them", but it might be worth a try. If you are a Frequent Virgin, then maybe try to do it through them...

Those are both worth looking into - nothing to loose...

I have tried by logging on to VS manage my flight and there is no option to upgrade, they do have this on this VH website however it is costing nearly £2000 for the 3 of us to upgrade..

I will trying ringing VS flying club and see what they say, the worse they can say is no.

I am passed the cancellation date other wise I would of changed my VH booking to room only and booked flights with VA.

Mercexe, who are you booked through - if you are booked through VH (or another tour operator), then maybe neither you nor Wideyes can see the option because they are not allowing people booked through tour operators to use that online functionality.

Unfortunately I can't check it out for myself because my flight booking is US - so I can't upgrade.

Shame that you have already paid in full :sad1:

Yes, if I was you, I would give the Virgin FC a call and just ask if you can upgrade your flights and give the VS reference locator (don't mention that you are booked through VH)... definitely no harm in asking... :)
