Breakfast with everyone was a blast:). I think we had as much fun with the characters as a group of kids.....maybe even more! The scrap room was absolutely amazing. I've never been to a crop of any kind, but seeing that set up was just wild......people were very creative with their table set ups, but I can't imagine how they got all that stuff there. It was also fun to walk around and see what people were working on....many people had their LOs sitting on their tables and it was great to see the creativity.....it was like seeing some of the work posted on scrapping websites in real life!

I forgot one thing from the morning. I would say it was about 12-12:30 (we were starting to think about food) when the said- “We have a special guest” as Mickey walked through the room. “He will be available for pictures out in the hall.” The room emptied faster than if it had been a fire. The line looked like it must have been a million miles long. I think everyone and their family seemed to be there and heading out. Our table decided that is wasn’t worth the line. After all we had plenty of character pictures from earlier in the day. As the line died down though- Most everyone had left the table (just Buffy, her Mom, and I were left). Buffy decided to get a picture. A couple of minutes later Mom K (Buffy’s Mom) and I joined her. The line wasn’t long and since you could take an individual or group picture only it was moving fast. Buffy and her mom got one together and I got one with just Mickey. The photographer had a little trouble with my camera so I had a group between us taking the photos but that was okay. We headed back in to work and wait for Mom E and Lisa to return from there lunch break (they went up to the room for snacks). They asked about the photos and we said we had done them (originally as I said our table wasn’t going to do them).
Mom E and I headed up to our rooms and changed before going out to the Admiral pool for the Jacuzzi. It took a bit of time to start working but felt great. We noticed they had a laundry room right there- perfect place you can put your laundry in and then swim while it is getting done. Kudos to whomever designed that. We enjoyed a relaxing time in the Jacuzzi getting to know each other, we talked about teaching, how my DH ended up in the ministry, living in Connecticut, and the places she had been. After 2 sessions in the Jacuzzi we got out and I really wanted to go to the main pool. One of my reasons for coming to SDV was getting to stay at the Yacht Club and being able to go in the pool so I dragged Mom E with me.
We arrived and donned our wristbands and found a place to put down out things. We headed over to the pool to find our way to the waterslide. She was funny about the lifeguards- feeling they were all young enough to be her grandchildren. We asked one how to get to the slide and hiked over to it. As we climbed up Mom E wasn’t so sure about going but kept following me. I loved going down the slide but was surprised it was a bit rougher than the water park slide (the bumps in the plastic). I headed away from the dump area and waited for Mom E. It took her a minute or two but she came down and said that she enjoyed it and was glad I dragged her on it because she wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
We explored the pool and then moved to the next one with the lazy river. We swam around it with a short break in the middle. We decided to skip the pool where the kids were having some kind of contest and head back in to change and start scrapping again. We had a great time. Mom E was really fun to hang out with and I loved hearing more about her and Lisa. I would love to get up to Cape Cod for a crop- just not sure about when. It will be easier once our house has been sold.
We headed inside to shower and change. I guess we left at just the right time since as soon as I got out of the shower I heard a huge boom. As I walked back down to the convention center people were streaming in from the pool shivering. The bottom had broken loose and the pool had been closed due to the storm.
I arrived back with my group to see how they had been doing. Buffy was saying that she needed to get some work done so we put her in a time out- she wasn’t allowed to leave unless the called her for the paint can swap. She was also going to leave if they called for class kits- I believe the exact words were- “run don’t walk” to wherever to get them.
Not too long later Ann arrived with her family in tow. You should have seen the looks on the boys faces and her DH’s amazement over all the people and all the stuff. Her DH was taking pictures and her youngest sat down beside Buffy and she was showing him pictures of her children. She asked her older boy if he wanted to go shopping with her but he said he would rather stay with dad who was taking pictures of the room. Ann walked around a bit but I believe she didn’t spend any money. Buffy had though about walking with her but she was on chair lockdown to get some work done. We had grounded her except for the paint can swap.
It was nice meeting Ann’s family- very sweet little ones. Soon after Ann left they announced a free make and take at one of the booths and all of us (other than grounded Buffy) rushed over to line up. We were using a crystal lacquer glue. On a chipboard piece we colored it with a ink pad and then put lacquer all over to make it have an epoxied look to it. Then on another little piece (we choose out a shape or word of a page) we just put the glue on a couple of parts so they would stand out. Mom K made one for Buffy since she wasn’t allowed to come.
Soon after we made these they did call for extra class kits and Buffy, Lisa and I went running out of the room with about 100 other people to look at what they had to offer. I think both Buffy and Lisa bought 1 but it was a little more than I wanted to spend.
Arriving back at the tables we got back to work. Buffy had been working along when she realized she needed just one more piece of blue paper. It was a color of Bazzil she needed (I looked at it and guessed Admiral) and she hadn’t been able to find it anywhere (she was wondering if it was retired). One of the vendors had rows of Bazzil. I allowed her to get off restriction to quickly get one piece of the paper and come right back. 15 minutes later she returned with a pile of paper and I had to look to see the blue cardstock at all. Lisa had asked where Buffy was while she was gone and I told her she was getting 1 piece of blue cardstock. We both laughed when she returned and let her know someone else would have to go when she was on restriction since she couldn’t buy just one.
She finished that layout and I finished my flower and garden pages (all 47 of them) before dinner.
Dinner and 1 more make and take next.

I wish I could go tot one of these. I am hoping to do the Princess Half marathon next yr though so this will have to wait. I don't really fit in at these events though. I don't have kids and am still in college but I still Love them and would love to meet everyone. Maybe when I am not in school anymore (I hope to move to Orlando and work at Disney), I will finally meet some of you.
Tigger1221, don't feel that way at all. Everyone blends in so well. We have a variety of people, ages, some have children, some do not. We all have one thing in common, a love for scrapping, so if you can, plan on coming. We love diversity, please add to it!

Rebecca doesn't have kids either, my mom is an empty nester as is Lisa's mom. Lisa has 1 kid, I have 4. We are all different which is part of the reason why it's so fun! We have a great time just being us. I was me this weekend, not someone's wife or mother, well maybe still mom's daughter but that was it.

We were called for dinner (they called us by tables for meals, starting in different areas each time). We headed down to dinner, which left a lot to be desired. They had a make your own garden salad with mixed green, cucumbers, and tomatoes; black beans and rice, fish, adobe chicken, and pork las ropas (all Cuban style foods) and I for one couldn’t handle the spices. On the way back from dinner we decided to take a group photo in front of the year of a million dreams logo they still had out from Mickey coming to visit. We happened to ask a professional photographer (who was walking by) to take our photos so she did with each of our cameras after arranging us just so for the photo. After she took our photo we had her pose for a few for us (I have her email for those of you who took her photos just pm me for it).
Arriving back from dinner we got back to work, Buffy was again on lockdown to get some work done. Not too long after we went back to work one of the store called for a free make and take for the first 24 people there. I was off like a rocket before they finished speaking and managed to get there, the rest of the table (sans Buffy) was right behind me. We choose a chipboard piece and colored it with ink and then used a lacquer type glue to make it have an epoxy look to it. Then we also choose one other piece (preprinted) and highlighted certain parts of it with the glue. After we finished we headed back to the table and got back to work. Not too long after arriving back at the table they announced they had an opening for massages at 8 and 8:20- I was running people over to get up there and sign up. I managed to be 2nd and got the 8pm slot. It was well worth my $22 for the relaxation it provided. I highly recommend getting on the list early in SDV iof you go to one.
They had the big door prizes at 8:30 Denni won a cricut jukebox while she was shopping across the floor, she yelled and then ran over to claim her prize as we clapped for her, being excited about a prize makes it more fun for others to watch. Then they made some announcements that brought tears to many of our eyes and gave us a chance to win $200 for shopping if we put our name into a pot, of course we all did that. About 10pm they announced a 40% sale on everything at the SDV store. I had just run out of adhesive (I went through 6 tombow rollers and 4 rolls of double sided tape by that time in the weekend, along with using plenty of glue dots and lines. So I went running over with the crowd and grabbed 5 refills for my glue roller and a couple of things to add to my complete page swap and got into line where I stood for quite some time, practically undoing my massage. I ended up getting my refills, 3 sheets of paper, a bottle of liquid adhesive, and 2 containers of bling for less than the 5 refills normally cost. The line was crazy and snaked all over the store, if you weren’t in line it was hard to even move in the store. About 10:30 pm the music started getting turned up and they played YMCA. People were on top of their chairs dancing to it, this started a group of dance songs including the Macarena, Locomotion, and many others including a second time of YMCA. I headed up to bed as Buffy finished packing up her stuff. At this point I was alone at the table for scrapping the next day as everyone else had packed up earlier.

Depending on how life goes over the next few months, I'd love to go to the Burlington one. I could drive to that so I wouldn't have to be too concerned about how to get my stuff there..........though I wouldn't bring nearly as much as some of the people had in Orlando....that was just a stunning sight!

Got home last night about 6:30. Thanks to Fay, the drive back was interesting! (Tubachick-Pam should have some stories, too! They are driving to Chicago)
Near Chipley FL I saw uprooted trees, an 18 wheeler being turned back on its wheels and several cars (with drivers still in them) in the center median/ditch. The drivers were spinning their tires - trying to get the cars back on the road. Minutes later, the EBS (emergency broadcasting system) reported a tornado in the area. Yipes!
I ended up going to Magic Kingdom on Monday morning for 1/2 day and then into Cindy's breakfast to take pix. The Dream Squad gave me a certificate for being the "Best Bathroom Ambassador"!!! lol!!! And they promised to email pix of the bathroom in the castle suite.
I will get some pix uploaded shortly to supplement the others you've already seen.
It was wonderful to meet everyone & put faces with names!

Ok so I was originally going to train for the Princes Marathon but my stepdad is having a hard time with his parkinsons and I am having to help with my sister(11). So haven't had time to train but one day and I broke out in hives, they think I am allergic to sweat. OK, all that to say, I might do this next year instead of the marathon. SDV sounds like SO much fun. For those of you who've been to both SDV & CKC could you talk about the comparisons and contrasts of the two?
BernardandMissBianca
08-27-2008, 08:20 PM
CKC and SDV are the same, but on opposite sides of the scale.
CKC
small crop for a limited time (i've never been to a crop at CKC though)
class heavy
no food included in the fees
less expensive
many vendors
separate fees for room and classes
all over the US
SDV
large crop, the main reason for going. The room is open 24 hrs
some classes
1 meal per day included in many of the packages
more expensive
fewer vendors but many bring their entire stores
room and crop space and some meals included in the cost. classes are extra.
only on the east coast and as far inland as Indiana

Buffy's list gives you a good breakdown of the difference between a CKC and a SDV. As far as my feelings on it.
I go to CKC to learn new techniques and buy new products.
I go to SDV to get pages completed and spend time with other scrappers.
Each of them have their own place in my scrapping and I enjoy each for its own reasons. I don't know that I would have enjoyed SDV as much if I hadn't known anyone, when I have gone to CKC I have not known anyone or met up with them there. I am okay with that because after a long day of classes I am ready to rest and just think through the techniques on my own. As I was at SDV part of the enjoyment wa talking with everyone and sharing as we worked.

I might do this next year instead of the marathon. This takes less training:lmao: .
It does take some endurance to participate in a marathon scrapping weekend. But don't worry about the weight lifting aspect, the is what the bell hop is for. Truly, women were coming in with carts full our their supplies.:scared1:
You can get quite a workout walking to your room and to meals as well as to all the shopping areas. Then there are the dashes for sales or class kits.
Rebecca
Yup, the sales and class kit dash is critical. One must always be prepared to run, not walk (with cash or cc) at a moments notice.:lmao:
Buffy's list gives you a good breakdown of the difference between a CKC and a SDV. As far as my feelings on it.
I go to CKC to learn new techniques and buy new products.
I go to SDV to get pages completed and spend time with other scrappers.
Each of them have their own place in my scrapping and I enjoy each for its own reasons. I don't know that I would have enjoyed SDV as much if I hadn't known anyone, when I have gone to CKC I have not known anyone or met up with them there. I am okay with that because after a long day of classes I am ready to rest and just think through the techniques on my own. I agree, being with friends that you know scrapping makes it so much fun.:wizard:

Hey I would have been a happy camper if breakfast was around 11 but those darn morning people! OMG!!!
So next year, if it's at the Contemporary we can do Ohana, 1900, or Chef Mickey's. We need to decide soon.
I would like honest opinions on the planning on my part, did I do ok? Is there something more we can do? do you want to do swaps, secret pals, etc......
We need a name and I want to stick with the Vintage Mickey on our shirts but was thinking of a new design for next year, what do y'all think?
Still on page 49
What more could you have done? You made the arrangements, took care of payments and made sure we were all there on time. Sounds like job well done to me.
Swaps & secret pals would be fun (if I was scrapping, not vacationing) but with the swapping we have going on here, you would have to plan that out pretty far in advance for everything to be done on time.
I love the Vintage Mickey. I think one of the group photos will be going in my ABC book on a page made just for that. :thumbsup2

I came down with a cold Saturday evening and had a bit of trouble getting to sleep but finally drifted off. I woke a little late for me on Sunday morning (8am) and after I got dressed and packed up my things I headed down to leave my suitcase with my swap things for breakfast. I ran into Buffy and her mom as they headed to breakfast and we ate together. The fruit was good but we all wished there was a better choice in the hot portion of the meal.
After breakfast I headed back into the scrap room and got to work on my resort pages. I was at page 114 for the weekend when Marylee came in. She had put away her things but and was heading over to DHS for the morning to get bathroom photos. I decided to walk along with her and get some hot chocolate, my favorite hot chocolate in Disney is sold at the Villain candy shop there. We took the walk from the convention hall to DHS. It was a little longer than I remembered but we had a very nice time talking along the way. we talked about ministry and our families and Disney vacations. It would have taken longer to come by boat. We arrived before the first boat from the resort did. Once we arrived we headed our separate ways as I was going for hot chocolate and then heading back to reach my goal of 120 pages for the weekend. Marylee needed to get photos of all the DHS bathrooms for her next book.
I headed to Sweet Spells only to find out they only have the hot chocolate I love in the winter time so I bought a white chocolate peanut butter cup and headed to Staring Rolls for some hot chocolate. I got that and then headed over to the boat. Luck was with me at the time as arrived just as the boat pulled up and easily fit on. After arriving back at the Yacht Club I headed into the scrap room and got to work. I worked for about an hour before reaching page 122 and then decided to look around at the shops just a little more. I ended up picking up a couple of things for current swap projects and then getting back to work. At noon they held the last drawings of the weekend, some excited people won them but not any of our crowd. Buffy and her mom came by to say goodbye as they were leaving, turns out they had been entering DHS as I left that morning.
I finished the resort pages I was working on and decided to pack up and leave. I wanted to get on the road so I would have a chance to rest before youth group. I packed everything up and called a bellhop over to help me load my car. I was once of those people who took up half a cart with their stuff (including my suitcase). Here is a photo of my loaded trunk: http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/rlovew/IMG_6392.jpg
The trip home was a bit of an adventure with a few storms that slowed the highways down to about 20 miles and hour and dropped visibility to about 5 feet but I made it safely home in about 2 hours and then waited until the rain subsided before unpacking the car.
The trip was lots of fun and I loved meeting everyone and seeing everyone face to face. I have found the more I meet my virtual friends in real life the easier it is to start those conversations and feel connected. A weekend like this was amazing. Even if we can’t all do something on this kind of scale it would be awesome to get together somewhere and crop together- I would say if you have the chance take it.

Rebecca, thanks for the great trip report. It is hard to believe that this time just last week we were all together in Orlando having a great time. I can't believe the time came and went so quickly. I know I am already looking forward to next year. Of course, I haven't completely unpacked all my scrap stuff yet. I was working on it tonight and am trying to get a bit more organized. Is that really ever possible????

We made it back to Chicago late LATE on Tuesday Night. Of course Wednesday was the first back to school day so I was swamped the rest of the week. I love all the pics and Rebecca's TR is AWESOME. Love the Pics Everyone Posted. Marylee The rain was horrible all the way through TN/KY!!! It was so sunny Sunday Morning when we planned to leave we had to run over to the studios to try to ride Toy Story Mania-- we got on, but didn't get outa WDW until about 1 pm on sunday (about 6 hours after planned) Once I get unpacked, I'll post some of my pics!!!

I Love going to Mouse Memories. The people there are so nice and helpful. I didn't get there during the SDV. After seeing all the vendors around the room at SDV I figured I could do enough damage without going to Mouse Memories. And I did!!
Over on the SDV forum board we have been hinting to Nancy to think about doing 2 SDV's in Orlando. One in non hurricane season!
I am still working on getting all my scrap stuff put away. It is out of my bag, but all over my table. Maybe before the end of Monday I can say I am done. No promises.:rotfl:

I didn't go this year, but I'm chiming in anyway on this. I'm married to an EMT, and I have to say those women are just lucky that the fire marshal did say something, and they moved their stuff. IF someone had gotten ill, like Carol said, and the paramedics arrived on the scene, they would have shoved, moved, pushed, thrown, whatever it took to get to the patient. Peoples things would be ruined. Just a side note on that. I know it wasn't you guys doin' the complaining. But he did them a favor...
I was at SDV too. And we spoke to the FM ... according to her the table pods should have been 10 feet apart (end to end) and there should have been 6 feet between chair backs when the chairs were in use. Instead the spacing between the pods was less than half that amount.
That irked me ... it also irked me that Nancy didn't take responsibility for not having the tables spaced properly according to the fire codes ... her event her responsibility to make sure the codes are met. And no, I didn't bring a ton of stuff b/c I flew in. I had a CM album tote with my supplies in it, but I didn't like having to "table dive" every time I needed something from my tote.
BernardandMissBianca

Technically it's Disney's responsibility to have the tables up to code. It is their hotel after all and they are the ones who set the venue up, the fire marshall should be there ahead of time to designate space. Should Nancy work with them? Absolutely, however her responsibility is to provide Disney with head count, Disney knows the Fl occupancy codes so they are the ones who need to set the tables up according to local law.
I agree we should not have to table dive to get our stuff but people didn't need to bring their entire scrap rooms either. They shouldn't be bringing 3 foot high plastic shelving units and 4 XXL bags. Sorry but you don't need "everything" for a 4 day scrapfest, even if it is 72 hours of cropping. (you as in the general you, not the specific you). A little pre planning goes a long way, in fact I have already starting planning for next year.
The thing that irked me the most was the sense of entitlement that a few ladies had about the fact that they had been to X amount of SDV's and the fire codes didn't apply to them (yes they actually said this). Nancy did also offer additional space for those who needed it, so there was no reason to take up 1/2 the aisle with stuff.
What I would like to see if is someone is going to empty their bag, then have a coat check type situation where you get a tag/ticket with your number or name on it, and Disney provides a room for you to store your bag in.
I had 1 backpack, 1 plastic tote (which I emptied), and 1 small rolling bag, for myself and my mom. The backpack and tote could have been stored elsewhere.
I foresee Nancy changing the rules, like her no strollers rule, to include no XXL bags, rolling coolers etc. Next year should be interesting, especially if it goes back to the Contemporary, since I do believe their convention space is smaller than the Yacht Club's.

Every state has different requirements by the FM. Yes, Nancy should be aware of these requirements, but it is not her responsibility to make sure the room is set up to the standards. In the past I did meeting planning and also depended on the hotel where the meeting was being held to meet any requirements. Now Disney had no way of knowing that people would be moving in lock, stock and barrel to this event. I know when I first arrived and saw the set ups (my first SDV) I felt like I needed to go to a store and get more stuff. :rotfl2: There was just no reason for people to bring so much stuff. Plan, plan, plan!!! And if you forget something go get it from a vendor or make a note to add such and such to a page when you return home. I specifically was working on Christmas pages because I knew that would limit the product I would need to bring. As it was I didn't get many pages done because I was putting the finishing touches on my class projects. Like it was previously mentioned the group of ladies across the aisle from our table were constantly tripping over their own bags and cooler. They were one of the unhappy ones having to move their stuff out of the aisles. But it was a problem for anyone trying to get through there. People just need to be more considerate of others, and I have to say at this event there were plenty of scrappers with a "look at all the stuff I own" attitude. I wonder if the FM would have had a problem with the room if there had not been so much stuff in the aisles??? Regardless of the problem I still had a great time and am looking forward to August 2009.

I totally agree with BAMB! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
It's up to the ones who physically set up the room & approve the set up (Disney event staff) to know their specific local codes and keep up with any changes of the codes.
One of the perks of staying nearby (most probably do) is you can take your empty and/or excessive bags back to your room - and run get stuff if you need it.
I, too, am irked by that feeling of entitlement - that the laws don't apply to them. :sad2:
I will be watching to see if SDV 2009 stays at the Yacht/Beach Club venue or goes to the possible smaller Contemporary location. I, for one, will bring less stuff since I'm flying in 2009.
Just my 2 cents.

sorry they a blurry I was trying to help DH find something over the phone and a lady was working on her ATC, so I had to hurry. Wish I had better lighting.
Those were exactly what I was looking for. My name is Lisa and I am a scraplifter. I did the ones form the page we received at SDV but now need to finish the remaining. :)
