Hi Folks

We are off on Friday for our long planned for Silver Wedding Anniversary Trip. Sadly our DS1 was killed in a road accident five weeks ago. He had just celebrated his first wedding anniversary. We have discussed the holiday with all our family and friends and have decided to go ahead and go to Florida as planned. We have all agreed that this is what Matthew would have wanted.

We are totally devastated and will find this really difficult.

I can't even begin to imagine what you must be going through. Your Silver Wedding Anniversary Trip should be a standout moment of happiness in your lives, but instead you have to contend with something inconceivable to any parent. Very sad to hear about your son, I remember reading a trippie from a lady on one of the other boards on here whose daughter had died not long before their WDW trip and she said it was bittersweet but in the end they were glad they hadn't cancelled as it was a chance to them to bond and spend time together as a family aswell as reflect on their daughter and what she would have enjoyed without the added pressures of everyday life. My thoughts are with you. I live very close to the accident spot and knew it had been very serious when I saw the amount of police presence on that Wednesday. Everyone who spoke of it was so very very sad, particularly because of the age of your son.

Words cannot express how much I feel for you at this time, when my sister died I saw first hand how my parents suffered. It has been 17 years and although the pain and memories of that terrible time are still with us all we have learnt to live with it, Time does not heal but it does allow you to manage your feelings a little better.
Do not feel you have to 'enjoy' yourselves, you can use this time to reflect and mourn and talk the good times through between you both.
