I'm looking to get a few books to see me through the school holidays. Ideally I'm looking for something which isnt too heavy (chick lit) ie I can get constantly interrupted and not lose the gist of the story!
Any recommendations?

Sophie kinsella is quite a good author...her book 'Can you keep a secret?' is good and so her others are meant to be too. I'm not really much of a reader but i read her book within a couple of days. She normally writes chick flicks, but not too girly!

For a touch of Florida, try Carl Hiaasen - not chick lit, but lightweight crime :magnify: (very light hearted and OTT) all set in Florida :sunny: .
I also enjoy Adriana Trigiani, although found most of her sequels very similar to the rest. Not too lightweight, but easy to dip in and out.

Martina Cole (Eastend London gangland strong lead women).
Jackie Collins (Sex, drugs and rock n roll).
Susan Lewis (Exotic locations, mysteries and strong lead women).
These are the only books I read (pure escapeism and being able to immerse yourself completely).
Every single one of these authors books i've read in two days or less!

I adore Carl Hiassen, along the same lines but set in Ireland are the books by Colin Bateman - my absolute favourite author - try starting with Divorcing Jack followed by Of wee Sweetie Mice and Men, you'll get addicted to the adventures of Dan Starkey.
On a more chick lit line Sophie Kinsellas shopaholic set are good and Katie Longs 'the bad mothers handbook' and 'swallowing grandma' are good.

I'm afraid I like to read horror, murder, mystery type books - Stephen King, Agatha Christie, etc. Also Barbara Cartland and Jackie Collins are sometimes quite good, depending on my mood.

For chick lit books I really like the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovitch. Very easy to read and excellent for taking on holiday.

I have to second the Evanovich books, both her Stephanie Plum books and the "Full" series as well...
My favorite in the chick lit category are by Katie Fforde her stuff is light and funny. I also like Jill Mansell, Marian Keyes, and Cecelia Ahern.
Have fun with the reading. :)

My favourite author is Bill Bryson, I have not yet found a book of his I haven't loved. There's always at least one point where I actually have to put the book down because I'm laughing so hard I'm in serious physical pain!

I'm not into chick lit but I can recommend 'Piece of Cake' by Cupcake Brown, it was so hard to put this down, a brilliant read and a true story.
Like Sue, I prefer horror or thrillers or legal crime novels. Stephen King, Harlen Coben, Nancy Taylor Rosenberg, Douglas Coupland etc. Right now I'm reading Band of Brothers popcorn:: but before that I read Shopgirl by Steve Martin, it was brilliant!

If its girly books you are looking for then you have to buy all of the novels by Jane Green. Her books are just a joy to read (and at times very funny). Also suggest Marian Keyes and Cecelia Ahern.
