Has anyone here used the Spa at SSR?? We are going home for the first time in August and I wanted to surprise my DW with a day at the spa. Any feedback would be great

I saw a report somewhere that the Spa at SSR was ranked as the #5 Spa in the world, seriously. It ranked higher than the Grand Floridian in fact. Funny though that it is ranked higher but yet the same people run both locations, perhaps because the buildings are newer not sure. I have heard from several people that it is awesome and one of my wifes friends went back in May, and had the mother/daughter manicure/pedicure and said it was awesome. Hope that helps, if I can find the story about the spa being ranked #5 I'll PM you the link.:wizard:

Love the spa at SSR!
DH and I went during our Christmas 2005 trip...50 mins. massage for him, Peppermint Pedicure for me...and we loved it! DH actually said that he planned to make it part of every trip he enjoyed it so much!
July 2006, my Dsis and Dniece went and loved it! Dsis had a facial and my Dniece had the "My First Spa" treatment, which was a mini massage, mini facial, manicure and pedicure. Her mom said, "we've created a monster" afterward.
The locker rooms at the spa have a nice changing area, showers, sauna and jacuzzi that you can enjoy while having treatments as well. My first time there was a woman seated on a chaise lounge reading a book. I thought she was the smartest woman...children are not permitted in the area unless receiving a treatment and accompanied by an adult.
Here's a link to the official WDW site with info. A while back there was a DISser who worked there and someone had posted a link to the actual spa brochure...maybe someone else will chime in with some more info.
It's a great way to treat yourself...woman or man...so you both could go.

Loved the spa! My daughter and I had pedicures. We truly enjoyed the time to relax - away from the hustle and bustle of the parks!!
Enjoy!!

I had also heard about the #5 spa in the world. I've been there to work out and absolutely loved it. Great locker rooms...very clean.
I've been there twice and like it very much. It's very nice, but has a comfortable atmosphere. The spa prices at Disney are higher than I'm used to, but there are 20% discounts for DVC members for a few of the spa services (I've only had the discounted services). There's a 'mystical forest' massage -- don't know if this is the exact title ----- that is quite nice. Lovely scented oil, 1/2 the time is a back/leg/arm massage and then you turn over and have accupressure to the hand/feet while laying on your back.
I've also had a regular swedish massage and requested the same oil used in the forest massage (they charge extra for using scented oil).
Plan to come early and enjoy the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi in the dressing room. There are private lockers, robes, nice showers, plenty of towels, hairdryers, etc. Then you go up to the lounge area (the robes are pretty important here because there's both men and women in the waiting area), and you are called in for your spa service. I spent more time in the sauna and jacuzzi after the massage. There are a few loungers by the jacuzzi, so you could read or just rest there. There have been wonderful attendants in the dressing room, who kept is spotless and were very helpful.
Very comfortable massage tables and very nice relaxing music. One therapist was excellent and one was just OK.
If you're ever at WDW on a cold, rainy day, this is where I'd run. Hope you enjoy it!

I booked DW last May for her birthday using our DVC discount. She loved it and says that she wants to go back again. :)

Thanks for all of the replies. I think that both of us will be visiting the spa next month. :goodvibes
It's awesome. Prepare to open your wallet. But it's worth it. :cloud9:

While I agree it's not cheap, I don't think it is any more expensive than a high end salon/spa in a major metropolitan city. I live in the Philly burbs & I think the prices are comperable.
In the case of the Spa at SSR... you get what you pay for, IMO. :thumbsup2
Plus, you're on vacation... if you are not going to treat yourself then when will you? :goodvibes

I went to a work conference at the Beach CLub last year and waiting for me upon my checkin was a surprise from my hubby.......a spa certificate for SSR spa. I was so excited. I had a mystical rainforest massage and manicure.
The manicure was so so but....the massage was amazing. I was so relaxed afterwards that I could barely walk. I wish I had more time to do more. I highly recommend it. I am going to enjoy the spa on my next trip this fall.:flower3:

There are DVC member discounts on several of the spa treatments, maybe 20 or 25% off?? Bring you blue member card. I think they have the exact treatments listed on the member web page.

Bumping for other suggestions/comments.....just booked a trip for my best friend and myself at SSR. It will be my first time staying at SSR and we want to do a couple of spa treatments, especially since there's a DVC discount.
Is the sauna & jacuzzi included with the treatment or is there an add'l charge?
I'm so excited!

This is our opinion - your experience may differ.
We went to the SSR spa for the first time this May. We've been to several other spas locally and around the country and really felt it was overpriced for the facilities provided.
The "lounge" is really just a coed waiting room with everyone sitting around in their robes with people walking through constantly on their way to the locker rooms. During our visit there was a group of four women who talked nonstop -- nice for them, but not so nice for the rest of us. At one point every chair in the place was filled. It was standing room only!! Other spas we have visited have had separate gender relaxation lounges as well as a coed lounge that were very quiet and relaxing. This one is not like that.
We each had facials and a massage. The massages were some of the best we've experienced. The facials were okay -- DH's facialist talked through his entire treatment so needless to say it wasn't a relaxing experience. When we checked out and paid the bill, we were told we had to see someone to go over the products that were recommended for us. They were all VERY expensive and we felt like it was just a sales job.
Without the DVC discount we would not have booked this at all. We had read that it had been rated as the #5 spa in the country and we have to disagree with this. Our local spa at the Watermark hotel is much nicer and much less expensive.

Have you ever got anything at Disney cheap wahahaha!! :lmao: I don't think many people from DVC will be going to the Watermark hotel myself and I assume that is in Texas? Not sure of the relavence of that statement unless they open a DVC up in San Antonio....:confused3

My point was simply that I felt SSR was overpriced with facilities that are average. We both agreed that if we wanted a massage next time we were at WDW we would just go to the fitness room at BWV and book one there. Sorry if I confused you.

No problem everyone has an opinion and your certainly entitled to yours. But as far as I have seen it is the exception and most people think it is great albeit expensive thus my previous comment about have you ever seen anything at Disney cheap because I sure havent, everything is expensive. But the fact remains that being ranked the #5 spa in the country and ranked higher than the spa at the Grand Floridian in a major magazine is quite an accomplishment though and cannot be overlooked. In the end though everyone has to determine what they like/dislike for themselves so any opinions whether yours or mine should always be taken with a grain of salt as everyones experiences will be different. ;)

I agree --- that's why I started my post with "This is our opinion".... It's great to be able to post a question and get lots of feedback about other people's experiences.

I have had several treatments at SSR and loved each of my experiences. The "waiting lounge" is coed, something I don't really care for, but you can actually do most of your waiting downstairs in either the men's or women's lounge and come up just before your treatment. I do like the set up at the GF slighty more, but I like the acutal facilities at SSR much better.
It is expensive. Here in Atlanta, treatments much less expensive, but it is an indulgence I enjoy while on vacation. The Adirondack Stone Massage is my favorite!

Being from the Boston area I'm surprised you find things really that much more expensive in Disney World.

In February, I booked a 50 minute couples massage for my wife and I at the SSR Spa. It was an awesome experience.
The facilities at the SSR spa are first class. It is as good or better than most 4-5 star resort spas in the US.
While I've not been to the GF spa, I would highly recommend the spa at SSR.

I have had the Peppermint Pig Pedicure two years in a row at the SSR spa and absolutely adore it! They have a fragant peppermint wash for the feet and cute holiday colors for the finishing touch on the toes. I would definitely recommend this and the DVC Members have enjoyed a discount on this in the past as well.

Here's the link (http://adisneyworld.disney.go.com/media/wdw/images2003/nonlanguagespecific/resorts/home/SS/spa/SaratogaSpringsSpaBrochure.pdf)to SSR's spa prices. I would love to have a massage and surprise DH with one. He has given me certificates for massages (not at WDW) on a couple of different occasions and they were wonderful!

I had a massage by A****** (don't want to post full name) in 2/06. While the facility and everything about it was nice, the massage was not. I don't even know how to describe it, since I have only had a few in my life, although the others were all wonderful. It was like pressure on ticklish areas that was uncomfortable and wierd stretching motions that were not relaxing to me at all. But, to each his own and someone else may have really enjoyed the same massage. I would not do it again though.

C'mon now I see your from the Boston area too lol. Even prices in NY which are usually the highest I've seen anywhere pale in comparison to Disney, lets be real here ahahaha!! :rotfl: How do you think they made over 1 billion dollars last quarter. Disney will give you what you want and it will be of the highest quality, but make no mistake you will pay heavily for it.:sad2:

Considering I have a friends that rent cottages up at Hampton Beach for $2500/week - no I don't find the prices that outrageous for what you get in Disney World. I also don't find the restaurant prices that out of line from around here. Maybe a buck or two more per entree but that's about it. As for the spa the only thing I could compare it to is the Spa at the Marriot on Hilton Head, and I paid $65 plus tip for a pedicure - which I believe that price is in the same ball park as SSR spa. I don't visit "spa's" at home. Usually just on vacation. ;)
And as far as Disney making any money - I'm not seeing great dividends coming my way from my stock. I should have sold it a long time ago, but keep it as a teaching tool for my DS 10. Never let emotion influence your financial decisions. :)

DD and I have had massages, manicures and pedicures (I have had the Peppermint Pig Pedicure!) and enjoyed them tremendously!!!! The times were were at SSR Spa, the lounge was quiet, but there were men there too. In fact, on one trip, a couple was having tea served to them I guess after their couple's massage - but it didn't bother us. The massages were fabulous - aromatherapy is great. DD was pregnant during one visit, and the special pregnancy massage she got was terrific, very relaxing, and they took great care of her. We have been at the Grand Floridian Spa also and think that the services are comparable, of course the decor is different, and the prices are about the same - more expensive that locally here in NJ, but like a previous poster said, we are on vaca and at WDW!!!!!!!
